Spring Break
Noah was pissed. Today was supposed to be the beginning of the best spring break ever. He’d planned a week-long trip with his college friends to New York City. They’d had it all lined up- museums, restaurants, sightseeing, it was perfect. But about a week before, Noah’s mom had called and delivered devastating news. They were having a family reunion that week. In rural Florida. Attendance was not optional. She’d bought his ticket already and there was no way out.
The day had arrived, and he solemnly made his way to the airport and flew to Tallahassee. They were meeting at his relatives’ place in the Florida panhandle, in the middle of nowhere. He’d been once as a kid and vowed never to go back. After a two hour drive from the airport he made it, driving up a dirt driveway to the massive, yet ramshackle, house in the forest. The next hour was a blur of greeting extended family, most of whom he barely remembered since they tended to stay out here in the country. After that settled down his mom came up to him, clearly very excited about something.
“Noah! You’re not gonna believe this, but since it’ll be a few more days before everyone’s here, your cousins Chevy and Logan are gonna take you out on a hunting trip! Just for a couple days,” she was nearly bouncing off the ground.
Noah groaned. That was the last thing he wanted to do. He had nothing in common with his cousins, and certainly did not want to spend time alone with them out in the swampy wilderness. His mom was not hearing any complaints from him though, and she dragged him out back to reacquaint him with his cousins. Chevy and Logan were chatting with each other on the patio, beers in hand, decked out in the camo hunting gear Noah assumed they lived and slept in. They were only a couple years older than Noah, but looked quite a bit older compared to the baby faced city boy.
“Ayyy Noah! What’s up, it’s been a while man,” Chevy walked over and gave him a bear hug, spilling some beer on his back.
“Hey Chevy, nice to see you too. I heard you guys were uh, taking me out camping,” Noah said unenthusiastically.
“Not just camping my guy!” Logan butted in, “We’re talking full on country backroads hunting boy’s trip! We’ll show you what you’re missing by being cooped up in the city.”
Noah’s heart sank; it was worse than he’d thought. They were gonna drag him out there and make him hunt? He didn’t like killing anything and worse, having to deal with the aftermath. He put on a forced grin since his mother was right there.
“Wow, that sounds real great guys, I can’t wait,” he said through gritted teeth. His subliminal messages to them were entirely lost.
“Hell yes bro! Here’s a pack with some of our extra hunting clothing, you won’t want a whole suitcase out there,” Chevy said, handing Noah a backpack. “We’ve got some extra gear that should fit you, it’s already in the truck. We’ll leave in 30 minutes, so get yourself ready.”
30 minutes?? That was immediate, he wouldn’t even have time to plead his case to get out of it. Begrudgingly he went back inside to get his stuff together. The next thing he knew, it was time. The boys were out front in their pickup truck, the back full of tents, camouflage gear, and who knows what else. Logan laid on the horn.
“NOAHHHHHH! It’s time to scram, let's get outta here!” Logan shouted over the blaring horn.
Noah groaned, this was setting the tone for the whole trip. He looked at himself in the mirror, the camo pants and hoodie just looked wrong on him. He for sure didn’t want his clothes getting covered in mud though, so he sucked it up and headed out front. Chevy grabbed his bag and tossed it in the back before climbing in shotgun, leaving Noah in the cramped back seats. And with that, they were off.
“There’s a real nice game area ‘bout an hour, hour and a half from here,” Logan said. “We’ll get in, set up a nice camp, then relax. Then at sunrise we’ll start you off with somethin easy, maybe a deer or boar,” he turned and looked at Noah, grinning.
Noah bounced around in the back of the truck as Logan drove through the forest on bumpy dirt roads. Chevy had put on some country music up front, and they were practically yelling to have a conversation over it. They tried talking to Noah about what he’d been up to, but Noah was sulking and gave only short answers. The sun was starting to hang low in the sky when they pulled off, offroading through some clear land towards a spot they’d clearly been to before. They stopped at a neat little clearing near a creek. It was objectively a beautiful little spot, but Noah was not in the mood to appreciate it, already swatting at mosquitoes swarming him.
“Alright man, you ever pitch a tent?” Chevy asked Noah.
“Uh, no, I haven’t”
“Well here, I’ll help ya out,” he said earnestly. “We’ve already got a well used spot here, so first we just lay out this footprint, and here let’s have you start with the poles.”
Noah fumbled around with the metal poles before eventually getting them together. He was frustrated, why would he ever need to know this? Chevy took the poles and got the tent up while Logan was still unloading the back of the truck.
“Alright we’re nearly done, just gotta secure it with these stakes,” he handed them to Noah. “Just stick these through the corner, make sure they’re deep in the ground now.”
Noah took the stakes and tried pushing them into the dirt, but they only made it about an inch in. He tried scraping the dirt away with his hands but that didn’t help. Chevy tapped his shoulder, holding a mallet as a suggestion. They’d just gotten here and already Noah was annoyed despite his cousin’s encouraging attitude. His hands were covered in dirt too, he hated being dirty! And he had no escape from all of it. He stormed off to the water’s edge in a huff while the other two finished putting their site together. The sun was really setting by then.
“Ey Noah!” Logan called, “Come have a beer with us man! We’ve got some chili cookin’ too, ya gotta eat somethin,” he laughed. Noah sighed. There was no point in sulking the entire trip like this, even if he wanted to. He walked back over and pulled a beer out of the cooler they’d brought and sat down.
“It seems his highness has decided to grace us with his presence,” Chevy mocked. Noah chuckled. He’d make it through this, even if it took all the beer in that cooler. The boys ate dinner and talked as the sun dipped below the horizon, with Noah actually giving some substantial answers this time. He was exhausted, having flown in and driven all day. He climbed into his tent to hit the sack. If he’d had a mirror in there, he would’ve noticed what looked like some dirt smeared on his face, just on his upper lip and the sides of his face by his ears.
Noah was abruptly awakened by Chevy shaking him. “Hey bro! It’s just starting to get light out, let’s get moving.” Noah groaned, it was his vacation and he was getting woken up at five something in the morning. He crawled out of his tent, banging his head on the pole; was it really that small last night? The boys were up and moving already, and Chevy handed Noah a granola bar to eat. “It’s a light breakfast I know, but we don’t wanna miss the prime time of the day,” he said softly.
Despite being exhausted, Noah’s annoyance was fading quickly. Maybe this would be a little bit of fun; at the very least it would be something different from normal. He scratched at his chin, his fingers brushing through the smallest bit of stubble that had sprouted overnight. Noah had never been able to grow facial hair, but for some reason this didn’t alarm him, it felt natural even. He put on his hat to hide his messy hair and began to chow down on that granola bar. As he did, that small amount of stubble began pushing out more, giving Noah a shadow across his jaw. It grew thicker, sticking out further until he had a rough, patchy beard. It made Noah look more natural in his hunting gear, aging him up just a hair. His clothes had also grown less baggy on him, attributing to an extra inch or two in height and some mass he’d never been able to pack on before.
Within a few minutes, they were off, trekking through the tall grass into the brush. Logan guided them to a denser pocket where they set up watch and waited for some wildlife to show up. Logan had told them he knew there were deer that tended to feed nearby, so they just had to be quiet and wait. The tension grew as time passed, and before he knew it, a buck had shown up in the clearing. Chevy had prepared him for this, and he took the shot. The deer went down, and Chevy and Logan cheered.
“Hell yes dude! Nice shot, especially for your first time,” Logan patted him on the back.
Chevy gripped him with joy, “It must be in your blood bro, you’re a natural.”
The adrenaline was coursing through Noah’s veins and to his surprise he was actually having a good time. He couldn’t remember why he hadn’t wanted to spend time with his cousins, they were chill, and this was turning out to be better than being cooped up in the house. The three of them carried the animal back, working together to hoist several hundred pounds. The sun was fully up now and it was humid. Sweat ran down Noah’s back, and he could smell the putrid stench coming off Chevy in front of him. He didn’t mind though, after all, that’s what a working man smells like.
The sweat was clinging to Noah’s damp skin, beading on his forehead. As he slogged ahead, carrying this massive weight on his shoulders, his body began to adapt. His twig like arms expanded with new muscle, his thighs exploded with size, and his chest produced an impressive set of pecs before softening with a layer of fat. The sweat and smell really began to soak into his skin, and under his sopping shirt small brown hairs poked up around his nipples. Those soft, small hairs didn’t remain so for long, sprouting from his chest, covering the expanse in a curly rug that was slicked down with sweat. Noah’s stubble was not to be left out, pushing further out of his face. Hairs wriggled out in the gaps between old ones, leaving him with much better coverage on his cheeks. Around his chin it even started to fluff up a little, coarse hairs puffing out.
They finally made it back to their camp, dropping the load and slumping into the chairs they’d left around the fire pit.
“We’ll have to gut and clean that in a minute, but here champ,” Logan handed Noah a beer. It was cold, and exactly what Noah needed against the oppressive humidity. “Here’s to many more,” he toasted, before chugging his own down. Noah was finally able to take a breather, and thats when he noticed.
He STUNK.
He raised his arms back behind his head, airing them out. The sweat drenched pits aired their stench to the world, but to Noah, he just matched his cousins now. The exposed pits had a few hairs plastered to the skin. As he sipped the beer and relaxed, more wisps of hair shot out from his skin, growing thick and wiry. What started as a few extra hairs quickly blossomed into a thick forest of hairs, tangling together and poking out of the sleeves of his t-shirt. The hairs itched as they grew in, prompting Noah to dig his fingers in there, scratching through the sweaty, smelly hairs. He didn’t question it, as far as he remembered he’d had hairy pits since middle school. The hairs spread out of his pits, connecting to the dense coating on his chest. The rug on his chest had started creeping upwards, reaching with thick tendrils of hair towards his burgeoning beard.
After a short reprieve Noah was back on his feet, jumping at the opportunity to learn from his cousins how to clean their kill. They were eager to teach him, to fold him into their ways. Noah’s distaste for his cousins, the country, hunting, all of it was evaporating. He felt like he had so much in common with them now, how had he never realized?
The rest of the day Chevy and Logan took Noah on a whole laundry list of activities they’d planned. Fishing, mudding, you name it. All hesitation had disappeared, Noah was in deep now. He kept drinking with the boys, not noticing that his gut was pushing tight against his shirt. In fact, his whole upper body was stretching out. His shoulders pushed out, growing broader. His frame was massive now, bigger than either of his cousins. He stood out on the edge of a pond in the harsh sunlight fishing, his shirt absolutely soaked with sweat that dribbled down his massive back. As it reached his waistband, it began fertilizing the growth of a new patch of hair right above his plump ass. The hairs sprung out of the wet skin, shooting up his spine in minutes. Before long the hairs had spread out across the wide expanse of his lats, pressing against the tight shirt. The fields of hair were thick, dense enough to darken the shade of his skin, and definitely didn’t help with the sweat situation. The hairs continued to spread, climbing over his round shoulders and down his arms, coating him with a wild fur that cemented his place out in the country. He was really starting to look like his cousins now, between his camo gear, hairy body, and beer gut.
When the three of them returned to camp that night, Noah was exhausted. He grabbed another can from the cooler and cracked it open. Putting up to his mouth, he tilted it a little too far, spilling foamy beer down his face and into his chest hair. He chuckled and half attempted to wipe the foam off. Where it sat in his beard, the hairs began to thicken and sprout. His mustache grew incredibly thick, making itself known above the rest of his scruff. His chest fur also took to the growth, turning into a real carpet that climbed up and out of his shirt collar. Noah let out a massive burp in response.
“Yo Chevy, we really gotta head back tomorrow? Shit rocks out here,” Noah said with a deeper voice than he’d ever had previously.
“Yea bro, Ma will skin us if we miss the reunion. But don’t worry man, I know you’ll be back out with us in no time,” he flashed a grin at Noah.
Noah went and dug through their bags, finding a lighter and pack of cigars. Now that the sun was going down, it was cool enough to enjoy being outside. He lit it up and took a hefty puff, his huge, hirsute body taking it in like a champ. Any thoughts about his old spring break, his old life, had been dragged through the mud and stamped out. All he wanted to do now was relax, listen to the sounds of the crickets, and spend time with his bros.

You can take advantage of a well planned 4-day trip that combines sightseeing, local experiences, and opulent travel with Lumina Holidays. Let's explore the schedule and discover what this thrilling journey has in store for you.
Day 1: Getting to Delhi Investigating the Capital City Delhi, India's busy capital, is where your journey starts. Delhi, a city rich in history, offers a unique blend of the ancient and the modern. The beautiful Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a lasting reminder of India's past, is the first item on your itinerary. You will also see the war memorial India Gate and the architecturally stunning Lotus Temple.
You may get a sense of the capital's rich cultural and historical heritage by visiting any one of these sites. Remember to try some of Delhi's well-known street foods, such as parathas and chaat, which are excellent ways to introduce yourself to Indian food.
Delhi's Animated Markets One of the busiest and oldest markets in India, Chandni Chowk, must be visited on any trip to Delhi. Explore its little lanes, which are populated by street sellers, jewelers, and spice merchants. In the best sense conceivable, it's a sensory overload!
Second day: Delhi to Agra Travel to Agra. Day 2 will start with a leisurely journey to Agra, the location of one of the world's most famous wonders. With verdant meadows on either side of the roadway, the trip is picturesque.
See the Magnificent Taj Mahal The Taj Mahal will definitely be your first destination when you get to Agra. Emperor Shah Jahan erected this white marble monument as a memorial to his wife Mumtaz Mahal, and it represents unending love. The encounter is made much more memorable by the elaborate designs, the symmetry, and the backstory. Try to arrive early in the morning or right before sunset, when the light hits the marble properly, for the greatest images.
The UNESCO World Heritage Site, Agra Fort Visit Agra Fort, another UNESCO World Heritage site, after seeing the Taj Mahal. This enormous red sandstone building provides breathtaking views of the Yamuna River and is a magnificent example of Mughal architecture. You can discover more about the lives of the Mughal emperors by strolling through the exquisitely decorated rooms.
Day 3: Jaipur to Agra Route to Fatehpur Sikri You will make a stop at Fatehpur Sikri, the abandoned city of ancient ruins that was once the capital of the Mughal empire, en route to Jaipur. Its architecture blends Islamic and Hindu forms, and the abandoned palaces and courtyards add to the place's unique and haunting ambiance. Armitage Hux x F!Reader
A/N: It’s been a few weeks since I posted anything and I’m hoping I can get more content out over the summer before my degree picks up again. Thanks @acrossthesestars for reading this chapter through ages ago 😅
Chapter 3 - Chapter 4 - Chapter 5
Warnings: feelings, but if a filler chapter, mention of alcohol. Fic is NSFW 18+
Word Count: 2160
Tagging: @lemongingerart @princessxkenobi @strangunddurm
The proximity warnings started as you dropped out of the rushing lights of hyperspace, your eyes taking in the sprawling web-like patterns of Coruscant. It was beautiful, the deep purples punctuated with fine lines of gold that covered the surface. It reminded you of the maze on the Hux estate, where you and Armitage had got lost plenty of times, where you had spent your time exploring each other’s bodies in secret, where you’d both hidden from Brendol and his rage.
Your memories were interrupted by the demand for your landing codes and you rattled off the number that was in the information of your booking. Following the instructions you were given, you guided the ship towards a landing beacon through the atmosphere of Coruscant.
You hadn’t ventured here before and just hearing the stories of the core worlds had set your imagination alight. Buildings rose up tall like daggers and a steady stream of speeder traffic rippled below you, bright lights creating a rainbow effect that blurred as you traveled by and you wished you had more time to explore. Bringing the craft in to land, you tried not to think about what you were about to do. How every step took you closer to that moment you’d dreamed of was a step away from everything you currently knew.
You were checked in by a bored looking twi’lek, her blue and white Republic uniform pressed and perfect as she attached the band to your wrist and made sure it scanned. You tried not to look at the colours too closely because it just reminded you of Poe and you didn’t need those feelings, not now.
“The Halcyon 2 will leave in a couple of days, you can either board now or sightsee in Coruscant. Miss?” You glanced at her, you had been searching the crowd for a shock of ginger hair, which was stupid really.
“Oh, er. I think I’ll just board now, thanks.” Maybe he was already on board? Maybe he was still travelling to you. Maybe this whole thing was a joke.
“Put your band on the scanner and it will grant you access to the docking terminal. A shuttle will take you up to the ship. Enjoy your journey amongst the stars,” she finished in a dry sing-song tone and you wondered how many times a day she had to say that as the gate slid open to admit you.
It was busier here, luggage was being taken by droids and you felt silly handing over a single bag for a whole month trip. The area was huge. A transparisteel dome covered the space, protecting it from the elements. White seats with plush cushions lined most of the floor space and you spied a family of Wookiees taking up one whole bench for themselves. Strange plants added to an attempted natural aesthetic and vents were placed in the ceiling to keep the air circulated and warm, but your gaze was drawn to the dark sky above. You now stood high over Coruscant and found yourself drifting to peer out of the huge plane of transparisteel.
This planet was always so busy, being a highly populated core planet and once the seat of the Jedi and Empire. People were drawn here for jobs, sightseeing, scandal and crime. It all happened on Coruscant.
Walking back over to the line, a droid scanned your band and assured you the single bag of luggage you had would be sent to the appropriate room. You kept a small satchel holding your datapad and a few protein pouches that you’d stolen from the x-wing with you. Following the line of people toward the docking shuttle, you tried not to look around for a shock of red. There was an eclectic collection of species here, their native speech patterns rolling over you. Some you recognised and could understand, others you didn’t. But it was the humans you were interested in, trying not to stare too hard at each new face.
The shuttle ride was quick, which was a relief as it was packed, bodies all pressed together in an effort to get as many people on board as possible. You had hoped getting here a few days early meant it wouldn’t be this busy and you could watch people boarding in the vain hope that you’d see him before he saw you. Because when you did see him you wanted a moment to decide what you were going to do. Or had you made that decision already?
The contents of your shuttle spilled out onto the flight deck and you waited as everyone had their bands scanned and sent in the appropriate directions. The droid scanned yours but a red light flashed instead of green prompting it to scan again.
“You have been upgraded,” it stated when the light turned green.
“Upgraded? Explain?”
“Your standard room has been upgraded to a suite. Please head in this direction.” The droid moved aside and you went to join the smaller crowd at the other end of the atrium, confused as to why your room had changed. Your group was led to a set of stairs that went to an upper level, where all the larger rooms for the higher paying guests were situated. Which apparently you were now. Your band opened the door and you stepped inside.
“Hello, I am Andan,” a voice started behind you. “I am your hospitality liaison. Please use the com should you wish for anything to be brought to your room. Feel free to explore the ship at your convenience. Can I get you anything?” You looked at the young man, his brown eyes watching you curiously as you tried to think of something to say. He was young, with a shock of dark hair, hands clasped politely behind his back and a slightly boyish face.
“No, but thank you.”
He offered you an easy smile before the door shut and he disappeared from view.
“What the fuck…” You placed your bag on the table. The suite was white with black accents. Glow panels lit up the room, but it was the viewport that took your breath away. Stars dotted the velvety dark of space and below you could see the sprawling lights of Coruscant.
The suite had a small eating area that merged with a comfy seating area. A large screen was set into the panels of the wall and you felt a thrill at being able to watch your favourite HoloNet channels without a dodgy signal that needed to be pinged all over the Galaxy to hide its destination.
You walked past the large curved white and black sofa to a door that opened to reveal more hidden cupboards and drawers set into the walls. Another screen next to the door faced a large bed, done up in black sheets. A small door led to a refresher that had you nearly groaning in joy.
You didn’t have to shower in a durasteel tub anymore with cold water and scratchy soap. In front of you was a state of the art bathtub with fancy soaps and scents lining the edge, a shower that was controlled by a touchscreen, and a heated floor that you could feel through your boots.
Instantly you stripped, programming the bath to fill with hot water and bubbles. Your skin protested at first, but you forced yourself to sink down in the hot water and immediately it felt like everything was washed away. You lost count of how long you were in there, washing your hair and body, popping bubbles and splashing in the soapy water. Looking around you frowned, wishing you’d got a towel first. Wringing your hair out, you stood and a panel opened, a rack with towels dropping down in front of you.
Reaching for two towels, you sighed at the warmth of the fluffy material wrapping your body and hair watching as the rack retreated back into the wall. Your toes curled at the sensation of heat from the floor and you couldn’t resist laying down for a moment. The tiles were white and smooth and your fingers traced the almost invisible lines as you let the heat seep into your skin.
Eventually you moved, picking up your dirty clothes and dumping them on the edge of the bed. You went round and opened the drawers only to find them filled with clothes. Slipping on some fresh underwear, you were surprised to see everything was your size. You opened what you thought was the wardrobe but it was in fact a dressing room. The walls were lined with clothes of every colour and fashion you could think of. One space was taken up by a tall rack of shoes and when you tugged on it, the shelves rotated so the shoes you couldn’t reach came down to your level.
“This is fucking insane,” you whispered.
Finding some black leggings and a comfy jumper, you went back out into the living area, noticing for the first time a datapad that you could control the whole suite from, as well as order food and drink and anything else you needed.
It wasn’t until you sat down that you remembered why you were really here. Was Armitage not coming and that’s why your room had been upgraded? As some sort of apology? You doubted it. But you were still waiting for someone to barge in and demand you leave as there had been a mix up. No matter how often you glanced at the door, no one was knocking.
You ordered some food and a bottle of Coruscanti gin, which arrived quickly via a droid who asked politely if you needed anything else before walking away. You glanced up and down the empty corridor, you could hear the noise from the atrium as people still gathered, but you had no desire to go down there just yet.
Sitting with your food and drink, you switched on the massive screen and settled down to watch your favourite programme in colour, with sound that didn’t make them seem like they were underwater. You were going to enjoy being alone for a bit before the nervousness of seeing Armitage really crept up on you.
You didn’t even feel the shudder of the 20 engines starting on the MPO-1600 Purrgil-class star cruiser. Only the announcement that came calmly through your screen told you the ship was finally embarking on its voyage. You had started up your datapad from the Resistance and messages had been steadily coming in from Poe. You weren’t interested in those. They hurt you to look at.
Chewing your lip, the nerves really settled in now. You watched Coruscant slowly grow smaller and you knew you should leave your room and search for the reason you were here. The idea that Hux was on this ship had your mind racing and your pulse throbbing with excitement.
You were dressed in leggings and a pair of mid calf black boots. A light green top made of silk was fitted to your upper body, the sleeves tapering to a point where they hooked over your middle finger. The lower part of the top split from your hips and flowed with each step as you slowly made your way down the steps to the atrium. Your eyes swept the floor space over most of the crowd, which were standing by the massive viewports watching the planet fall away. You headed to the bar, perching on a stool and letting the droid scan your band before asking what you wished to drink. You asked for a gin and droid asked if you wanted an infusion of Pyussh berries to which you agreed. It gave the clear liquid a deep purple look and a sweet aftertaste that you actually found appealing.
Leaning back on the bar, legs crossed and elbows resting easily, you found yourself zoning out to the creatures all around you. They all looked and sounded so excited, happy. Younglings raced around. Human children mixed with Twi’leks, Rodians, Duros, even the small Wookiee.
Is this what life was like outside of the Resistance? All joy and living?
Taking a sip of your drink, your gaze tracked over the crowd and you tried not to let your thoughts sink into the swirling pit that Armitage had never made it on board. If you didn’t see him this week, you contemplated disembarking at the first planet the ship docked at. Maybe you could make your own way back out in the Galaxy, away from the Resistance and away from your memories. Your foot jigged impatiently and you asked for another drink from the droid, watching it in the mirror as it expertly mixed and poured the purple liquid into a clean glass. You lifted the glass, glancing up to see yourself reflected back at you behind the bar, only to freeze mid motion as yours locked with a familiar gaze.

Leonardo x Reader
Summary: All the family leaves the lair for a well deserved vacation at an abandoned camping spot. The reader enjoys the road trip with the turtles, oblivious of Leonardo's intention of confessing his crush for them.
Category: Platonic relationship, deep friendship, secret crush.
WARNINGS: None c:
A/N: This was so fun to write and also quite endearing. I had to rush things up at the end or this would end up too long but I hope you enjoy it anyway c: Let me know what you think <3 A big thank you for @dianounais for sending the ask that inspired this ficlet. Also, I did my best at proofreading but this is a reminder that English isn't my first language so I appreciate any heads up about the text. Thank you
You can also read it in AO3! <3
Even the night sky seemed different, it seemed to be made of a deep, dark blue and all the stars were visible. It was so different from the greyish sky of New York, with all the artificial lights from the buildings and billboards obfuscating the celestial bodies. Here, the night seemed bare.
"That's Ursa Major," Donnie said, pointing to a set of stars. "You can see them more clearly between July and September."
You sighed. Wrapped in a blanket with a mug of warm tea in hand, this was the most comfortable moment you had experienced in the past few months and everything seemed perfect, if it weren't for someone's absence.
"Where's Leo?" You asked
"He's at the pier ... He said he wanted to do a night run by the lake."
You get up, decided to find him... It seemed like you two should talk, especially after things had gotten a little awkward in that evening.
It all started when - after weeks of insisting - Mikey convinced Leonardo to decree a family vacation. At first, it seemed like an absurd idea: where could you go? There was no disguise in the world that could make them go unnoticed during a sightseeing tour, there was a reason why they had never left New York. But the youngest of the brothers - with the help of Donatello and his collection of maps - had planned everything. A road trip, navigating abandoned roads till a Environmental Preservation Area that had been used as a camping spot in the 1980s, but had been closed for visitation after an deadlock in court with the owner of the property. It was a good plan, actually: the Turtle Truck had enough structure to travel on the roads even if they were not in the best condition, the area was already suitable for camping and they would be careful not to pollute or leave traces in nature and, well, it was not as if you were in any danger, as they are a team of highly trained ninjas - even Master Splinter agreed to participate in the undertaking.
You all spent the whole day packing your bags and adjusting the minor details. It was the first time they had taken a vacation and you were so happy to be part of it! The feel of excitement and anxiety at the lair had transformed the general spirit and everyone had high expectations. When the big day came, you left early in the morning. 3 am is not an usual time for humans to wake up, but you should have gotten used to it, or at least expected it. The Turtle Truck had been renovated to fit all of you and now it had the same configuration as a van's seats. The fresh air of the dawn and the swing of the car at the beginning of the trip were too comfortable to be ignored and you fell asleep without even realizing it.
A big hole in the road made you jump out of the seat and what seemed to be muffled laughs made you open your sleepy eyes. You didn't realize when or how, but sitting on the middle bench, you fell asleep in Leo's arms - You had nothing to complain about, in fact it was quite comfortable but the restless laughter of his brothers made you suspicious of something.
"Are you guys laughing at me?" You ask, sleepily "Am I drooling?" You look at Leonardo and he looks a little more shy than usual, maybe even a little ... embarrassed?
“No! No ... Y / N, don't mind them ... You can keep sleeping."
"Ok ... Are your arms uncomfortable?"
"No." He responds promptly "Make yourself comfortable".
You smile and lie on his shoulder again, adjusting to be closer to him. There was an indecipherable thing about Leo, that strange and special way you felt about him. You felt safe, you felt good, comfortable. He was like lighthouse, always guiding you to the nearest safe harbor.
You had no idea - but Michelangelo had omitted from you the secret weapon that he had used to convince the team leader to make a discreet trip to that lake ... The possibility of using that time to get close to you. It had been a few months since they had discovered the older brother's secret crush for you and since then Leo had suffered daily teasing about it - deep down everyone hoped it would work out, it seemed natural for you two to be became a couple after all you been thru together, the idea of the camping trip was also an honest and true team attempt to give enough opportunities for the fearless leader to finally take action.
It started in the car, right after you woke up. Michelangelo was the co-pilot and gave you a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and some orange juice. It was so calming and relaxing to eat while watching the road go by, especially that one, that was so empty and surrounded by virgin forest.
"Let's play "who am I"! " Mikey suggested "I'm going to think about someone and you have to find out who it is by asking yes or no questions."
Donnie started
"Are you a human?"
"Yes."
Then Leo
"Do we know you, personally?"
"Yes."
"Ah, that's too easy! You only know four people." You said.
"Just ask already." Michelangelo said, his mouth full of bread.
"Ok ... Do you consider this person a close friend?"
"Yes."
It was Raphael's turn. From the back of the van he exclaimed:
"Are you Leo's favorite person?"
"YES!" Mikey exclaimed from the front seat
"So it's Y / N."
"Anwww ..." You said looking at Leo "Am I your favorite person?"
If you weren't mistaken, he looked a bit red, maybe even blushing "Y-you said it yourself ... huh ... I only know four people."
"Ouch" you answered, before all the other brothers burst out laughing, waking up Master Splinter.
You played a few more times. Donatello was George Washington, Raphael was Angela Davis, Leonardo chose Master Splinter and you chose Leonardo himself.
After that, you listened to the radio a little bit until Michelangelo put on a podcast. The road didn't seem to change and your eyes started to weigh again when Donnie stopped to fill the tank. Raphael and Michelangelo fought to see who would continue the rest of the trip in the front seat, Mikey was defeated and with his head down went to the back seat.
Through the reflection of the mirror in the front seat, Raphael looked at you and Leo talking.
"I spy with my little eyes ..." he started "... Someone very nervous trying to pretend that everything is fine while talking to his cru-" Leo took the impulse when the car bounced from a hole in the road and kicked Raphael's seat.
"Ops, my bad." He said, then completely ignored his brother's comment and continued to speak to you again. You thought it was a little strange but you didn't understand Raph's last words... Anyway, you were paying attention while Leo explained the art of reading your luck by looking at your hand's lines, while caressing your palm.
When you were almost reaching your destination, one of the tires flat.
"I'll go change it!" You said," The road looks empty, but if a car happens to pass by, it's better to spot someone changing a tire than a giant turtle."
"I'll go with you." Leo said "I'll be behind the truck, nobody will see me ... It's just so I can help you."
It wasn't the first tire you had ever changed and Donnie had powered the hydraulic jack, so everything was especially easy. You were crouched on the floor and Leo was at your side, holding the lug nuts while you fit the step tire.
"You know, Y / N I ... I admire you." He said, breaking the silence.
"For changing the tire?" You asked.
"For being so ... independent, resourceful. I like your attitude."
"Oh ..." You said, a little blushed "Thank you. I like that you came to help me and also allowed me to do it ... I feel like you don't underestimate me."
"Never." He said, smiling.
There was something different about that smile. Something intimate, vulnerable. You could not say what it was, but the sensation that filled your chest was an unexpected heat.
When you arrived at the location, it seemed a shame that it wasn’t opened for visitation anymore. The area was a dense and vibrant forest that ended up in a meadow that surrounded the lake, the water was almost transparent and everything seemed so bright and magical that you thought you were transported to another world. You pitched the tents at a speed that one could only achieve with military discipline, it was almost evening and nobody wanted to miss a chance to swim a little before dinner.
The water was really cold and the first minutes inside were uninviting but it didn’t matter… You were so happy in spending this time with them and they were absolutely mesmerized by the view of the place. So much to see, so many things to try and the sensation of ruining free in the wild without any scared humans around made everything perfect. Donnie spent all the time collecting plants and small fish that hang by the edge of the lake, Mikey and Raph race from one edge of the lake to the other and Master Splinter was meditating in the woods.
You and Leo… You swimmed. He looked so happy to be in the water and you couldn't help but to presume it was part of his nature, that lake was nothing like the Lair’s pool, he felt free, comfortable… Confident. It was hard to tell how long you spent together in the lake, but at one point you were lying down at his shell, floating mindlessly right at the middle of the lake, only darkness below you and despite that, you felt safe. You were so close… So hypnotized by that gesture of pure affection and care.
“Y/N…” He said, turning around and letting you go, only to hold you in his arms. He was warm despite the cold water and his gestures were gentle. Suddenly, you started to get nervous, he was so close to you…
“HEY LOVE BIRDS. TIME FOR DINNER. QUIT MESSING AROUND.” Raph screamed from the edge of the lake. An invitation to make dinner never looked so inconvenient.
So here you were now, after dinner was made and eaten, trying to find him in the darkness of the night, dying to hear whatever it was he wanted to say. Your heart pounded for the possibility of being alone with him again and everything felt heavier by the time you reached the pier, whatever it was… It seemed serious, secretive, confessional.
“Leo” you said, finding him seated with his feet submerged in water.
“Hey,” He smiled, offering his hands to help you through the couple of stairs. You seated next to him, wondering how he could survive all the mosquito bites. Maybe turtles didn’t get them?
“It’s a bit cold here… Don’t you want to come back to the bonfire?”
“Well, I…” You said, rubbing your hands in your arms, it was really cold “I was hoping you would tell me what you wanted to say at that time… when we were swimming.”
“Oh” His eyes widened and even in the dark, you could tell he was blushing “Well…” He sighed deeply. You heart was pounding…
“It was nothing. I… I am just glad you’re a part of my life… O-of our lives.”
You couldn’t even disguise the disappointed “oh” that left your lips. Suddenly you realize that you were expecting something completely different, something that would change things between the both of you.
“Come…” He said, after some uncomfortable silence established between you “Lets go back, you’ll freeze here.”
And so you did. Leo, you and your suddenly broken heart.
Seated next to each other by the bonfire, you couldn’t stop thinking how naive it was to assume anything and Leo couldn’t stop thinking about how he ruined the perfect chance he had to declare himself to you. One thing you had in common: the fresh realization that what you felt for each other was more deep, complex and overwhelming then you once thought and the burning desire to finally end the suffering caused by insecurity and maybe, just maybe…
