DAMN I almost forgot to post her. Anyway this fur was so incredibly fun and the perfect thing to get me drawing again after a drought.
Belongs to @punkbirdwitch and @miss-burntwood
[ID copied from alt: A drawing showing a bust of a god, who resembles a red fox with tall brown antlers. The fur on her chest and face is very fluffy, and there is a glowing blue spiral pattern on her foreleg. She smiles slyly at the viewer. The background is a series of abstract, watercolor-like splotches in warm colors. End ID.]

It's Staffordshire Day!
Apparently it's Staffordshire Day on the 1st May! First I've heard of it, but let me celebrate my home county:
This is Staffordshire:
It used to be a whole lot bigger, but they lopped off most of the Black Country and stuck that into the West Midlands in 1974. Bye bye to Walsall and Willenhall and Wolverhampton.
Places:
Stafford: the county town- suffers from traffic problems and has a 19th c replica of an ancient castle. I met my future husband for the very first time in the train station here, but I can't tell you any more about the place since I've never really been. Maybe it's really interesting; maybe I'm missing out.
Stoke-on-Trent: the potteries. You've probably heard of this place. Famous for Wedgewood, Moorcroft, Spode, Royal Doulton, Emma Bridgewater etc, etc. They really dig ceramics in Stoke-on-Trent. Has a football team with a hippo for a mascot (The Potters-hippopotamus-geddit?) and it's really five towns (is it six now?) melded into one city. Parts of the city look like some kind of post-apocalyptic wasteland but it has an excellent museum with some of the Staffordshire Hoard on display. Treat yourself to an oatcake somewhere and mourn the loss of the Leopard pub in Burslem, where great 18th c minds met to plan wonderful engineering works like the Trent and Mersey canal.
Tamworth- it's got a snowdome, it's close to Birmingham and currently has a popular Tiktok jacket potato man to visit. Can't tell you any more as I don't think I've ever actually been to Tamworth... actually that's a lie, since I went ice-skating at the snowdome on a school trip when I was 11.
Burton- they make beer here. Brewing's big business in Burton. It's in the East of the county and again, I can't tell you more since I don't frequent Burton... ever.
Lichfield- historic, founded way back when by religious types and has a cathedral dedicated to St Chad. Known as the 'ladies of the vale', Lichfield cathedral sports not one, not two, but three spires. Bit greedy really, but looks nice. It has a nice spring bank Bower festival every year where it always seems to rain. The potato man here is pretty good... I wonder if he's still in business. Be sure to stop by Erasmus Darwin's house and admire the statue of Samuel Johnson, Lichfield's most famous son. Also make time to go to the park and admire the statue of Capt John Smith of Titanic fame. I don't think he had any connection to Lichfield, but apparently Stoke didn't want the statue so Lichfield took it.
Burntwood- really a collection of former mining villages, there's a lot of houses here and not much else: no history, no culture, nada. A place for people to live and to dream about living somewhere more interesting and where people speak with less awful accents. Or that might've just been me. You will never have heard of this place and will have no reason to ever visit unless your mum still lives there.
Biddulph- small market town. Has Biddulph Grange NT garden. Very nice. Good display of tulips and rhododendrons in the spring. Once heard it described as a 'poor man's Bodnant' but really, we can't all be Bodnant and anyway, there's room for all sorts of gardens in this world.
Leek- another small market town. Nice bookshop. Don't mention roundabouts. People in this town really know how to hold a grudge about roundabouts. Famous for the double sunset each midsummer. Obviously it's usually cloudy and everyone misses the double sunset but it happens nonetheless.
Assorted lovely little villages dotting the place. Lots of nice ones up in the Moorlands.
OTHER STAFFORDSHIRE THINGS!
Staffordshire Bull Terrier- not my kind of dog, I'm afraid, but they're pretty popular.
Staffordshire oat cake: it's an oatmeal pancake filled with warm and savoury stuff. I like cheese and mushroom personally, but I reckon bacon and ham and whatever is most popular. Can also get a sweet filling, like nutella. A North Staffordshire delicacy, the Hairy Bikers made these in Lichfield for their TV show once, much to the confusion of the locals. South Staffordshire holds no truck with oatcakes apparently.
The Staffordshire Hoard: oh, only the largest collection of Anglo-Saxon gold and silver ever found in this country. Imagine being the detectorist who found it, or the farmer whose land it was found on. Whew. I used to work at a riding stables in Hammerwich (where it was discovered). Imagine if I'd gone poking around in fields rather than picking poo in stables... anyway it's bloody impressive stuff.
Alton Towers- you might not have heard of Staffordshire, but you've heard of this place, eh? Our famous theme park. Must peeve the people of Alton off, all that traffic through their lovely little village. Still, I heard they get free entry to the park so... silver lining.

Paint, Shark Teeth, and Butter Making - Week 2: January 19, 2024
Today was field trip day! I started my day by going over to the house with Midge and Judy to do the opening duties like turning on the lights and taking the water out of the dehumidifiers. The sink on the first floor and one of the bathtubs on the second floor actually work so that was convenient and also very cool. I then helped Midge set up one of the activities: butter making! There were little plastic jello cups of heavy cream that we wrapped with napkins so they were ready for little hands.
This was a homeschool co-op so there were 22 kids ranging from infant to around 10 years old. At first when the families were making their way into the visitor center, we were all a little nervous as the energy was through the roof. My role was to go through the stations with one group and see how field trip day runs for them. It consisted of watching the movie all together and then split up into two groups. One group would start with a craft of bird house coloring and butter making and the other would start the tour of the home. Then they would switch! My group started with the bird house coloring which went smoothly and then we went into the kitchen to make butter. A demonstration was led by the docent Ann on how to make the butter and what life was like during the 1800s. All one has to do to make butter is shake… that’s it! We were handed saltines and tried our homemade butter, which was honestly very good.
After the craft making section of the day, we had a tour of the downstairs led by Judy and then the upstairs led by Ed. Some of the kids had great questions about the home and how old every object in the room was. Answer: very old.
We then celebrated Ann’s birthday with some delicious drumsticks and sighing in relief once the field trip was done. We ate lunch after and Tracy showed me the bins I would be working on for the rest of the day. There were three blue storage bins with many ziploc bags with excavation sheets on the top. The excavation took place in 1998 and honestly probably hasn’t been looked at since. It took me a second to figure out which bag corresponded with each sheet, but it was just on the bottom corner in very light pencil. Once I figured that out I got to work organizing the bags and seeing if all of them were accounted for. We are missing one bag, but they may be in another bin. There were also two bags that were mislabelled, so I will be fixing that next week as well. I then put all of the information from the excavation sheet into an Excel spreadsheet. This is because it will be easier for Tracy to pull up information in case she needs it, and the paper will eventually become illegible or destroyed so it is imperative to digitize the information. Also who doesn’t love a little organizing as well.
Tracy told me it would be a lot of rocks which I was fine with, but I uncovered a much more human story. There was a rusted tube of black paint, a shark tooth, and very old hangers among ordinary things like nails and burntwood chips. It was a very nice reminder that even though it did look like a bunch of rusted stuff, this is evidence of someone’s life once lived. These people who once inhabited this beautiful mansion had hopes and dreams and liked to paint and look for shark teeth just like many of us do today. This is exactly what I had hoped for my internship: to understand a little more about the deBary’s livelihood and humanize the past. It is very easy to think that these people are so far away from us, but really people have always been people.
From my last blog post, I said I was going to go to the pool, but that ended up not being on today’s agenda, but I’ll go next week. Stay tuned for that post!
The photos are of the old paint tube, the shark tooth, and of Ann's birthday celebration!
See ya for another exciting day next week!

Could I ask for "20. Things you said that I wasn’t meant to hear" for either Mikannie or Maria/Hunter, pretty please?
(An in-game Maria/Hunter bit finally hit me in the head, sorry for the delay.)
It had been an even fight at the start.
When Maria landed a blow, the Hunter returned it. A slash of the Rakuyo was always met by one from a Saw Cleaver. Gunshots missed, were dodged, and managed to lodge themselves in flesh in equal counts.
Even when Maria coated the Rakuyo in her own blood, the Hunter managed to keep pace. She continued to dodge in and out of range, tearing at Maria at any opportunity. Their clothes grew sodden quickly; their boots left smears of red in the dust on the floor.
Maria setting her blood alight was the turning point. She saw a burst of panic in the Hunter’s eyes, saw her raise her pistol. The shot was mistimed, Maria ducking past the quicksilver flash and slashing with both arms.
The force of the blood and flames was enough to knock the Hunter off her feet and slam her into the wall close behind her. She pushed herself up quickly, but the dark stain that appeared on her face mask after she coughed was telling. She rushed in, still managing to land a few blows.
Maria saw her dodging begin to slow, begin to fail outright. The Hunter was knocked off her feet twice more before her legs truly failed. It was a simple task to fire her pistol when the Hunter tried to attack, sending her to her knees with her breath driven from her.
The light was already fading from the Hunter’s eyes when Maria lifted her off her knees and drove her fist into her side. Her blood was still hot as it coated Maria’s hand, but her legs were already limp. She slumped against Maria’s chest, her last breath rattling against her soaked mask.
“You would have been a worthy partner on the hunt,” Maria said quietly, close to the Hunter’s ear, and the Hunter was gone before she could feel Maria tearing her fist away.
When she snapped awake next to the lantern, the Hunter stared at the shimmering fog at the grand door to the clocktower. Maria’s words still in her ear, she went through the fog at once. Maria looked at her, eyes weary as she sighed.
“Hunt with me,” said the Hunter.
Maria said nothing, only raising a brow slowly.
“You said I would have been a worthy partner. Hunt with me.”
“You know this is a nightmare. There is no end to the hunt.”
“Nightmares end. Hunt with me and make it end.”
Maria looked at her. She inhaled and exhaled slowly. As she reached into a pocket of her coat to retrieve a dial, she said, “I should not have given you hope, good Hunter.”
“I’ll pay the hope back, Lady Maria.”

Dating Nico Di Angelo would include...
+18 content labeled. as always, gender neutral reader, and all genders + trans inclusive. enjoy! 💜
it takes him some time to open up at first
i believe you meet when he first appeared, so you got to know little hopeful sweet sunshine nico
even when you’re not in a relationship, when you first meet he’s kinda awkward
it’s not his fault, though, for the longest time, all he had was his sister, human (demi-god, perhaps) interaction is hard
you start to get close because you seem to be the only person to actually take time into asking about his interests
you dont make fun of him for his mythomagic games, you actually put effort into learning and listening to him talk about it
it makes him feel safe
and comfortable
so you let him ramble about it for hours
after bianca’s death, he turns cold and angry
he’s so full of rage, and you don’t blame him
you get his first smile after it happens, when making a reference to the game
he realises you were actually listening the whole time
but then he leaves
you meet again a lot after him and percy find each other again, lets say... after Manhattan?
you and him soon connect again, in his strange, kinda cold way
NOW TO THE RELATIONSHIP
Nico was born in the 30’s, and even if he’s lived a lot in the present day, i like to believe when related to dating he keeps some of the manners of back then
he’s so respectful of you
asks before even holding your hand the first time
your first date is so cute, he takes you stargazing but stares at you the whole time
he’d always lend you his jacket if you were cold
such a chivalrous king
his hands are always cold, so when he hugs you, he wraps his arms around you BUT under your jacket / sweatshirt
he also likes hugging you from behind and putting his hands in your pockets
LOTS of cheek kisses
soft ones when you wake up in the morning next to him
fast ones when he sees you around but you’re both busy
lots of little and fast ones when he’s trying to make you laugh
“nico stop! it tickles!” “no way i’m stopping when you laugh like that”
he smells like burntwood and rain
he loves cuddling but won’t admit it
he’d hold you close, his head laying on your chest as you run your fingers through his hair, or your hands up and down his back
but he’d also be the big spoon, wrapping his arms around your stomach, the tip of his nose caressing your nape
he’s so good at braiding hair (again, as he only had bianca)
so if you have long hair, he braids it when he’s nervous or anxious about something
he’d sit you on his lap and start at it
if you have short hair, he loves caressing it, massaging your scalp
its v relaxing for the both of you
JAWLINE KISSES ARE HIS PERDITION
you’d just give him the littlest one and he’s already purring
“hm...” “yes?” “that’s nice, amore...”
amore, vita mia, bella/bello, cara/caro, estrella mia... you name it. italian petnames all the way
he also uses english ones
he switches between them depending on the mood
but in bed, it’s always italian ones
he can’t focus so they slip
TALKING ABOUT BED ... +18 until it says so!!!!!
i want to say he’s a bottom, but i also think he’s a top ???
so he’d switch depending on yall’s mood
he PURRS and GROANS so much
you’d expect him to be quiet and non vocal but NO!
(won’t say you’re a girl cause not all girls have vaginas, not all people with vaginas are girls, and the same with boys and penises, so)
if you have a vagina, he LOVES when you ride him
he loves being able to look at your face, and to see you in power
if you have a penis, he’d either give or receive depending on what you prefered, cause he really doesn’t care as long as you’re happy
he enjoys both ;)
he doesn’t have much sex experience so if you wanted to try new things in bed he’d be kinda worried that he’d do it wrong
after practice he really proves to be a fast learner
he loves when you give him hickeys
he’s so pale and they are very noticeable
not big ones, tho, just a little mark every now and then
he looks in the mirror the next morning and sees it, and it fills him with pride to know he has you, and you have him
not +18 anymore!
aftercare is so sweet
he’s very gentle, he’d help you clean up and offer to get you dressed again if you wanted to
he’d also brush your hair after it
nico would hug you so tightly to his chest, pressing little kisses to your head and forehead
“i’m so lucky to have you, cara/o... i love you so much”
he’d sing you italian lullabies to sleep, whispering in your ear until you fell asleep
he’d make sure you’re well covered by the blankets and resting nicely before falling asleep himself
i’d say he makes breakfast the morning after but he’s a nocturnal boy so i think you’d wake up before he does
but yeah he’s baby
i love him and miss him sm

#365daysofbiking Recovery:
Saturday, October 31st 2020 – A lazy day spent at home avoiding torrential rain, high winds and attending to bike maintenance issues that had cropped up in the previous day’s long ride.
I had to nip out for shopping so went late to catch the supermarket quiet, and for a change, I decided to go to Morrisons in Burntwood.
Returning via Chasewater, and realising I’d left the SD card from the camera in my computer, I tried a night photo on phone: It didn’t turn out to badly. I’ve missed Chasewater lately. I must get up there more often.
This journal is also on Wordpress, where the pictures are in higher resolution and the search box works! Click here.

This is Zevi and she is just the worst. 💕 Commissioned by @punkbirdwitch for @miss-burntwood .
[ID: Three versions of a drawing of a cambion/tiefling woman from the shoulders up. She has light gray skin, red freckles, four horns growing from her head, and reptilian gold eyes with slit pupils. Her read and black hair is neck-length and slicked back, and she wears red winged eyeshadow and an eyebrow ring. She also has on a black jacket and red scarf. She looks down at the viewer with disdain. The background is dark and dingy, with a weak shaft of light against a stone wall. In the first two images, she is mostly cast into shadow, with the shadows being darker and deeper in the second image. The third image has her in more ambient lighting to better show her colors. Parents appear at court accused of smothering nine-week-old son
A couple are accused of murdering their nine-week-old son after an alcohol-fueled argument about not having enough sex because of the newborn.
Luke Morgan, 26, and Emma Cole, 22, are on trial for smothering baby Tyler Morgan in the early hours of April 29, 2014 at their two-bedroom flat in Burntwood, Staffordshire.
He was intentionally smothered or had his chest depressed, a court heard, and also had fractured ribs.
Luke Morgan, 26, and Emma Cole, 22, are on trial for smothering and killing their baby son Tyler Morgan
Jurors at Stafford Crown Court were told how neighbours heard the couple arguing on the night leading up to the baby’s death about being short of money.
They also said Morgan was angry because he wanted to have sex with Cole but had been prevented from doing so because Tyler was still awake.
Paramedics were called to the couple’s home at 2.42am and found the child unresponsive.
Tyler was rushed to Walsall Manor Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after 4am.
On Tuesday, the couple went on trial accused or murder, manslaughter, allowing the death of a child and cruelty to a child under 16-years-old.
Opening the case Andrew Smith QC, prosecuting, said: ‘At 2.42am, on April 29, 2014 Emma Cole dialled 999 to summon an ambulance to her home address.
‘Nine-week-old Tyler had collapsed before the call had been made.
‘Tyler’s collapse had been caused by him being intentionally smothered or by his chest being depressed.
‘He was taken to hospital and died just after 4am. He had sustained other injuries including fractured ribs.
Neighbours claimed the couple had a boozy night out where they argued about not having enough sex because of their newborn
‘The prosecution contends this was caused it was deliberate, unlawful actions which caused the death and they are responsible for his murder.’
A jury of eight men and six women heard how Morgan would sometimes make his son play air drums and had struck him on the back at least one occasion.
Mr Smith added: ‘Tyler was born on February 27, 2014, by caesarean section. He was born well.
‘Luke Morgan is now 26, he was 22 at the time. Emma Cole is 22 and was 18 at the time.
‘They had been together for about two years and appeared to have a close relationship.
‘Tyler had an unremarkable history, he had suffered from a little colic but that was under control.
‘There was suggestions that the defendant’s attitude was not always shown to medical professionals.
On Tuesday, the couple went on trial accused or murder, manslaughter, allowing the death of a child and cruelty to a child under 16-years-old
‘Emma Cole had said they had bathed Tyler cool water to keep him awake as warm water made him sleepy.
‘Their preferred pattern was for Tyler to fall asleep at times that were convenient to them.
‘Luke had put lemon juice on Tyler’s tongue, it may have been some chilli crisps though.
‘There was also an instance where Luke would play air drums with Tyler’s arms, something Luke knew that Tyler was to young to do and he appeared to have hit him on his back too hard on one occasion.
‘The relationship may have had some tensions that did not show to the outside. ‘
The court was told how on the night a neighbour had heard an argument between the defendants while Tyler was crying.
Mr Price said: ‘Luke Morgan was angry because he wanted to have sex with Miss Cole and had been prevented by Tyler being up.
‘On the night of April 28, a neighbour went to bed at 10.30pm and she could hear them having an argument about having no money Emma was sobbing.
‘In the early hours of April 29 there was a high pitch screech from Miss Cole.
‘Barry and Helen Wood at the flat above heard arguing in the hours before Tyler collapsed, they thought it may have been taking place in the kitchen.
‘Mrs Wood said they were shouting at each other at 1am.
‘The prosecution say they were having the arguments at a time when they were drinking alcohol.
‘The 999 call was made at 2.42am and the first person to speak to the operator was Emma Cole.
‘She said Tyler was not breathing. Paramedics were immediately dispatched.
‘They were given instructions to perform CPR.
‘At 2.51am the first of the ambulance crew were met by Luke, he was crying and upset but showed the crew into the property.
‘Tyler was lying with his back on the floor. Emma Cole was trying to do chest compressions. She was plainly very upset.
‘When the paramedics were began to assess Tyler in the bedroom he was showing no signs of life and was in cardiac arrest.
‘He showed on response.
‘As paramedics treated Tyler the defendants argued. He was saying ”I was trying to wake you up”, she said ”I did not know I was asleep”.
‘The paramedics tried to find out how long he had been unresponsive. Mr Morgan provided no answers.
‘It was at 1.45am that Tyler had been unresponsive and Luke Morgan could not wake him.
‘Mr Morgan had repeatedly said ”this is a cot death isn’t it”. Miss Cole kept telling him to ”shut up”.
‘Tyler was taken to Walsall Manor Hospital and admitted to A&E at 3.40am. Tyler had no heart rate and was not making any breathing effort.
‘He died at 4.03am, he was nine weeks old. It was said [Luke] did not call 999 because he had a stammer.
‘During April 29 police officers went to the address and saw two empty wine bottles and nine empty cans of lager.’
The trial will resume today.

Jets’ hot streak continues
On what could only be described as wintry conditions, the Jets continued their fine run of form with a routine home victory against Burntwood dragons.
A hail storm interrupted the pre match ‘warm up’ as the lads legged it to the woods in an attempt to avoid the leg stinging hail stones. The clouds soon parted and with a majority of 11 to 3, the lads voted to kick up hill and against the wind in the first half should they win the toss. Sam Holden did them proud with a confident heads call and they duly lined up against the slope.
The Jets made the early running on the soggy and muddy pitch, with a few near misses before Bostock opened the scoring with a nicely taken effort, slotting past the keeper following a fantastic barlow through ball. The pitch and windy conditions did not help the game, but the jets were unable to extend their lead despite a few good chances.
A brief half time pep talk given the freezing cold, saw the game swiftly restart and with the slope, the jets took control of the game. A fantastic curler from Summerfield into the top right hand corner put the Jets two up (though he confided it was a cross!), a cool Barlow finish made it 3 and then the flood gates opened. Summerfield scored another, a fine drive from the edge of the box from hare soon followed, Findlay flicked home a lovely cross from Steele before Holden tapped in from a Greechan in swinging corner with the final kick of the match.
The lads battled hard against the conditions and played in a positive and confident manner, and most importantly, all survived the freezing temperatures.
They ran out 7-0 winners.
