Time for another writing update!

First, I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who sent me a message for my birthday, whether through the ask box or DMs. I can't begin to express how surprised I was to receive so many! You all made me feel very loved, even if I also feel very old. So thank you for making my day (and a couple days after it) so bright!

Second, Arrie's story. You may have seen that I put the title on the pinned post as "coming soon" and then removed it. This isn't because it isn't coming soon, but because I didn't like the title lol.

I completed the last round of edits on it today. It's been divided into chapters. There are twenty-two. I might write an epilogue, but I haven't decided yet. I've decided to call it Unchained.

I vacillate between being really proud of it and thinking it's shit. But I'm trying not to let the inner critic take hold, so I'm going with being proud of it.

Either way, I'm going to be making the masterpost for it this week (probably tomorrow) and then posting the first chapter. I really hope that you'll all enjoy it. I spent about five months working on it and put a lot of effort into it. And when I think of all that time and energy, I have to say that I am proud of the final result! And that's sayin' a lot lol.

Third, I'm also going to work on the other things listed in my "coming soon" section. I have not forgotten them! Raphael fic part two, Barbatos shower smut, and mer!MC headcanons are all in your future. I'm also going to finish up my human AU idea posts.

WOLFCLAN: MOON 16.5

"What's that weird thing around his neck?" "He smells funny." "Why's he always asleep? Doesn't he want to explore the camp?"

Rapidwind sighed. His kits were at the age where they had endless questions about everything around them, and asked faster than he could answer. "He came from far away. He smells funny and wears that thing around his neck because he didn't live with a clan, he lived with big animals called 'Twolegs'. Try not to bother him, he's hurt and he's been through a lot. He needs rest. And, um, don't tell him he smells funny. That's rude."

Robinkit, crawling up Rapidwind's back, managed to tumble over his father's head and fall into his paws. Rapidwind avoided the impulse to itch his face where the kit's tail tickled it - Indigoleaf would be furious if he accidentally wiped the poultice off his snout. Again. "But, but, why is he here now?" Robinkit mewed, before Finchkit interrupted by pouncing on his brother.

"Because… Twolegs don't like cats." Rapidwind answered. But was that true? His old clanmate, Terracotta, had claimed most Twolegs were kind. But she had been hurt and thrown out by them too, hadn't she? "So stay away from them. Just like you'd stay away from wolves, or coyotes, or eagles."

"And foxes and snakes and owls!" Oriolekit added. "Is that where we come from?"

Rapidwind stared at the kit for a moment, caught off-guard. "What do you mean, where you come from?"

"Badgerstripe said you brought us to camp." Oriolekit continued, and now her brothers were also looking up at Rapidwind. "Did you get us from Twolegs, like Shimmerstar brought Dusty back to camp?"

Rapidwind knew they'd ask about their origin eventually, but he hadn't settled on how much he would share. "No, you didn't come from Twolegs." He eventually answered. "You're clan-born, because I'm your dad."

"Badgerstripe said most cats have two parents." Oriolekit's gaze was more prying than Rapidwind thought was possible for a kit.

Badgerstripe needs to mind his own business. "That's true." He admitted. He couldn't lie to them. "You're my kits. And you also have a mother." Robinkit opened his mouth, about to speak, but Rapidwind laid his tail over the kit's muzzle. "Hush, just listen. She lived far away, with other cats. She didn't think it was safe to raise kits there, but she couldn't leave, because she was loyal to them too. So we decided you would grow up here, because WolfClan will care for any cat that needs help. Little kits like you, and old kittypets like Dusty."

Rapidwind realized his kits were all looking up at him, wide-eyed. "Does that answer your question?"

Finchkit nodded. "So, does everyone else know our mother?"

"No, I don't think so." Rapidwind glanced around the cave, but it was empty besides him, his kits, and the sleeping Dusty. "A long time ago, back when I was as little as you and the clan lived somewhere else, cats weren't supposed to have families outside their clan. Now that we live in the mountains things are different, but... I thought it was best if I didn't tell everyone. All that matters is that you're here, with me."

Rapidwind assumed that he and Shimmerstar were the only ones to actually remember living with the old codes and traditions. Indigoleaf, Badgerstripe, and Polecatspot had been too young at the time. When they fled to the mountains, it had felt like those restrictions were left behind, and all that mattered was that they would take care of each other. Shimmerstar hadn't punished Rapidwind when he brought his half-clan kits to camp, and treated the kits with the same kindness that they had shown Rapidwind when he was little, but it was obvious that the leader was actively avoiding the subject of WolfClan's deputy breaking the old clan's rules.

"Well, I like being here." Robinkit announced, his squeaky mew as serious as he could make it. Rapidwind didn't miss how he was starting to get fidgety.

"I like it more!" Oriolekit mewed back, and swiped a paw at Robinkit. Robinkit swiped back, and the two started wrestling.

Finchkit bonked his head against Rapidwind's flank, purring. "I like that we get to be with you."

Rapidwind curled his tail around Finchkit, both of them watching the others play-fight. "I like that you get to be with me, too."

Writing Update: 06.05.2024

It's time for my regular update report drop to let you know that I'm still alive! Below are the fics that I've been working on and will be releasing (hopefully this month):

Bedroom Hymns (myg x reader) ⏤ this month's target/estimated word count: chapter(s) 18, 19, 20; 16k words total ⏤ progress written: 6,4k words of the total word count goal (first draft writing) I keep jumping between scenes, so even if I'm close to finishing chapter 18 at the moment, I'm not sure if I'll be posting it soon since I've been moving to other scenes/chapters between writing this part. These next few chapters are going to be so much fun to read. I promise :)

Ever a Never After (jjk x reader; ksj x reader)  ⏤ this week's target/estimated word count: act 1; 12k words ⏤ progress written: 6,2k words (final draft writing) I switched my writing process with this one by finalising a scene before moving onto the next since I wanted to have an opening scene/prologue that is fun for everyone to read. I'm also using a couple of beta readers to help me work on this one which is why the process takes a bit longer than usual

Hot Mess (kth x reader) ⏤ estimated word count: 6-7k words ⏤ progress written: 2,5k words (first-second draft writing) Why did the number decrease, you ask? Because I've been re-writing it from the start lol. I actually finished this fic a while ago after sharing the progress back in January, but I didn't like the story flow and how everything went. So I scrapped everything and started over when I opened the draft again a couple of days ago. I'm pretty sure I can finish this one nicely this time

I'm going to continue working on these fics with the hope of dropping something new this week. See you then.

The room itself was a fire hazard, Tom thought bleakly. Stacks of parchment scrolls littered every available surface. There were about a dozen abandoned bottles of firewhiskey sitting in various corners of the office, half of which still held some level of liquid.

Then there was the department head himself, Harry Potter, slouched in a large, beaten-up leather office chair. His face was unshaven with a rash of black hair that spilled over his jaw and down towards the sharp white v-neck of the Muggle t-shirt he was wearing.

“I didn’t know the Ministry had a fire department,” Tom said in lieu of a greeting.

Potter scrubbed a hand over his face, eyeing Tom with mild interest. “I didn’t know the Ministry was hiring children.”

“I’m your new… intern.” The word soured slightly on its way out. “Tom Riddle.”

“Right. Hermione may have mentioned that.” Potter’s hand moved from face to hair, scratching through the thick, unruly mop. “Welcome to the team.”

Tom looked around. “Are you the only one here?”

“No.”

Tom raised a brow.

“Now there’s you, isn’t there?” Potter pointed out with false cheer, finally rising to his feet. “Lucky you. The first intern this department’s ever had, probably. Sure that’ll look excellent on a CV.”

“What do you do here?” Tom prompted.

“Well…” Potter paused. “I put out fires.”

“You put out fires,” Tom repeated, unimpressed.

Day 1 Update Released!

The updated version of Day 1 has now been uploaded to the itch.io page!! It includes features such as: a brand new UI and character naming screen, updated sprites and CG art, restores the missing scenes and characters from 2017, and adds a few new additional dialogue options and flavoured text ^^

What's left before beta launch (story is officially beta-ready, only a few mechanics-related items left!!)

Chapters 1-13 are fully prepped for beta including edits, tons of reworks, cleaner code, etc. What's left to do is:

Restructuring the stat increases and checks (I have come to the realization that if they're going to span 3 games, they can't max out in book 1 😅).

Renaming a minor character that appears in chapter 9

Do a quick playtest of later chapters

Finish preparing beta questions for testers

Draft the beta testing announcement thread

I'm hoping to launch it sometime in the next week and a half! We're on our way ~

Not me deciding to finally write out a storyboard for my CoraMiShanks Fix It AU and ending up with a list of at least 30 scenes spanning ~15 years of in-universe time from Corazón meeting Mihawk at a Warlord meeting Doffy dragged him to, all the way to Shanks having fun at Zoro's expense during the time skip...

There are so many little things I have in mind for this AU, and I don't know how to even begin filtering out 'filler' content and breaking it down to a cohesive story. (Especially because I enjoy myself the little domestic moments that aren't technically important to the plot. They enhance the story on so many levels...)

Either way, if I do write it, it's uh... gonna be a fast ignite slow burn. Very slow burn. Also by nature of all of their individual journeys, it's quite difficult to have them all meet up in one place (not that that will stop me though).

So that's the state of the fic? Maybe? Who knows, but I do feel the writer's block finally making an exit, so time to dig up my good keyboard and get working.

Bonus Devlog: Postmortem on writing a Mystery Jam Game

This isn't directly related to Amadeus, but I want to share it because it may be of interest. I took about a month off of Amadeus-focused work to write a brand new mystery game for the Mystery Jam 2024 - Robot Detective & the Case of the Automurderated Intern. I chose a narrative/design-focused role instead of art or music, because I wanted to practice the craft of writing in a low-stakes setting.

I definitely feel like I've leveled up from this experience! I'm quite happy with the game we made. I also wrote a pretty in-depth postmortem on the process of writing it, so if you've been wanting more news about my progress on Amadeus this might tide you over until the next major update: "Hello from the Writer!"

Happy New Year, friends!!

So much has happened this year on the blog. So much has happened in the OM community. And a ton of junk happened in my personal life, too. It was a crazy year lol.

I think the thing I'm most proud of this year was finishing Unchained. I never intended to write such a long story about my OC, but in the end it clocked in at just a tiny bit over 70k words. It meant so much to me that it had a few regular readers. Seeing your comments and tags on each chapter was truly the best part of my week.

Now that it's over, I've been brainstorming for my next multichapter story. I have ideas for the Solomon one I plan on doing to answer a bunch of Nightbringer related questions that were never resolved. And I've been thinking a lot about doing a sequel to Unchained involving Caligo, a character I didn't expect anyone to like lol.

My first goal of the new year will be to finish the requests I still have in my ask box. I'm sorry it's taken so long, I know y'all sent those in back in August. I will finish them before I start seriously on anything else.

I've also been working on an original story about vampires that I'm posting about on my writing side blog @misc-chronicles. I feel I should mention this because it has me in a choke hold at the moment, so I'm trying to work on it simultaneously with OM stuff.

Anyway, that's all I have to say, this is really just a new year edition of a writing update. Thank you all for being here. I hope this next year brings you moments of happiness and peace, even if only for a short time. I love you all very much. I mean that most sincerely.

been totally wiped out this week, so progress on everything has just not happened like I wanted, but here's a little preview from the third part of the Vampire Hunter AU to tide you over:

Teddy planned it all to the last detail. How she’d do it. How long she’d drag it out. Every single goddamn thing she wanted to spit at him, to carve into his worthless hide so deep he felt it scar his soul—to make him understand. By the time Teddy finished with him, he’d be ruined. Death would be a mercy, and she intended to make him beg for it.

(ok but I am excited to get to these next chapters. we're going to start seeing more in depth who they are as people, get some glimpses of who they used to be, and how they ended up here

this is still a very off the cuff project, but I've worked up some pretty good notes as far as story and character beats and have the general arcs planned out)

Writing Update: Jan 2024

I figured I should keep you guys updated on some of the stuff I'm currently working on. I've been busy catching up with work since I'm dealing with a new project that started last Dec, but I'm trying the best I can to also catch up with fic updates. So here it goes:

Bedroom Hymns (myg x reader) ⏤ this month's target/estimated word count: chapter 12-13; 14k words in total ⏤ progress written: 1,5k words (from my writing goal only) Currently in rough draft writing form, but I also skipped ahead to a smut scene that may not happen until waaayyyy later. So there's that lol (ps. the moodboard above contains spoiler to what's going to happen in the next chapter)

A Christmas Fix (kth x reader) ⏤ estimated word count: 40k words (originally planned as 30k but you know me) ⏤ progress written: 25,050 words Already on second/final draft writing with 3,5 more scenes to go. I'm hoping to be able to finish this one this week because it's been delayed for too long already. Cross some fingers for me!

Hot Mess (kth x reader) ⏤ estimated word count: 6-7k words ⏤ progress written: 5k words Yes, I originally was close to finishing this when I took a break and focused on the xmas fic. Might be able to post this as soon as my other Tae fic is done
