it's not unusual that whatever lucky lady paris has been seen socializing with a little too much gets thrown to the wolves by the press. normally, she jumps into the fray alongside them, sticking it all out until the cycle dies down and eventually repeats itself. ilona, however, is a different story. literally.

see, ilona's in that same place . . . immediately speculated to be "with" whichever partner she's whipping into shape that season, whatever that means. SILK's team definitely saw this coming. paris should have seen it coming too.

paris has gotten [ mostly, ] used to this kind of treatment in the specific way that lets it roll off her back. they make a conscious effort to tamp down any proximity - based attraction that may prove these paps right at the end of the day. the last thing they want to do is stress ilona out even more. with one swift movement, paris takes the magazine from their partner's hand and shuts it.

see, briar's well aware that not everyone is as effortlessly effervescent and social as she is. but she considers ilona one of those similarly patterned butterflies, y'know ? maybe they're more in coworker territory than anywhere else . . . but briar doesn't see the point in taking much of anything slow. chances are, if there's a gun, she's already jumped it.

it's probably not the costume that's bothering her, though that's briar's first assumption. they're both the newbies of the show in their respective departments. maybe it's something to do with that ? ❝   . . . 'cause like, i'm all ears if you do. ❞

so tumblr in general sucks when it comes to acknowledging wlw relationships. but that same apathy and lack of development as far as wlw ships are concerned is also so prominent in the rpc.

it’s rare to me (as someone who has written a fair share of wlw ships in the rpc) that the rpc fleshes out their wlw ships as deeply as they do any kind of ship involving a (mostly cis) male muse. we get our interactions largely watered down to how Cute they would be. maybe they kiss a few times. bring each other flowers. sometimes they verge into over-sexualization. but they’re rarely ever awarded the same level of drama, depth, and nuance as m/f or m/m ships. and it’s super grating, especially when you’re writing a lesbian character …

it’s so common you see wlw shipping presented as an afterthought. as a “who’s going to give my [bi] muse a girlfriend” when the muse already has multiple male ships. it’s just something to tick off a box and never gets any real development.

lesbian muses deserve messy relationships. they deserve angst. they deserve fluff and sweetness that isn’t just surface level. they deserve nuance and appreciation

9. what is their greatest achievement ?

honestly, her greatest achievement so far is learning to be patient as a human. as a doll, there was never a question of there being something she wanted that was out of reach or that she couldn't get just by batting her eyelashes. she's coming from a world where she was constantly top of the charts, playing for huge crowds, receiving special treatment from the people around her at all times. she'd never had to fight to make her voice heard. she'd never been harshly criticized or rejected & the process of dealing with that alone in the real world is beyond terrifying & upsetting, but the way she gradually learns that throwing a tantrum won't hurry her career along is truly her biggest feat. it's what teaches her that she's not a quitter & she's willing to go to war for as long as it takes just to be able to share her music with the world. there's never been a doubt that she has talent, but that's rarely ever enough. she owes all her pending success to patience.

21. what do they like to do for fun ?

performing aside, because that's never not fun for her, she loves driving her little pink vespa around town ( alexa play speed drive ). self care days are also super fun for her because it turns out she's obsessed with bubble baths & crafting them has become some kind of ritual. she also hangs out with chloe a lot & is continuing the tradition of letting her use her as a model for her fashion designs. a girlie loves to play model.

22. do they have any hobbies ?

she has a poker group she meets up with on the weekends ! she suggested its creation just so to bring something from her old life into her new one. nothing too high stakes, it's just made up of a few people who work at the coffee shop with her but she does clean them out 9/10 times because she's just that good hehe. you'll also find her at the gym as often as her schedule allows. plus, she's in the process of learning french & italian because she really wants to go to europe someday <3

31. what does perfect happiness look like to them ?

perfect happiness is playing a new venue every week. knowing her music resonates with people. it's also a big apartment with a pretty balcony & a view of a buzzing concrete jungle. a closet you could basically live in. good friends near-by. most of all, her happiness lies in feeling connected to the people around her, her audience included.

lauren will be the first person to tell you that alyssa watts was a failure in nearly everything she set out to do. she couldn't even make the one hit wonder thing happen back in the day, resigning herself to a long life of infomercials and barely - listenable podcasts with ex - members of the office. it's, quite frankly, more of a terrifying legacy than it is an embarrassing one. the latter is just much easier to admit . . . and so lauren does, openly and freely, so no one else can beat her to the punch. all's this to say that maybe, as a result of her mother's participation, she's under the impression that shows like dancing with the stars are where said stars go when they're on the verge of dying out. SILK, on the other hand, is just beginning. she has to believe they haven't hit their peak yet. she has to believe that this won't make paris look like some kind of a joke.

she's well aware of how she comes across. a lot of people who aren't tuned into the SILK echo chamber think she's some kind of tyrant that takes pleasure in keeping poor, angel baby paris under the heel of her custom made shoes. maybe there's parts of that theory grounded in reality . . . but they don't get it. she loves her. a scary amount, actually. a quit while you're ahead amount. it makes her gut churn in some ugly way when she sees paris playing into the acting, if that's what they're calling it. lauren's the one that knows they're a naturally flirtatious person, though. [ and a real sucker at times. ] she smiles a similarly tight smile, stepping closer and glancing across the room at her guitarist in a playfully conspiratorial way. ❝ really ? so like, tell me then . . . without any acting. how is she doing ? ❞

it's just girl talk, right ? or that's how it may come across to the untrained eye. lauren doesn't expect to fool ilona . . . but she's not TRYING to make an enemy out of her [ even though that's exactly the kind of dynamic her behavior tends to create. ] she just wants to keep her finger on the pulse of it all. keep a leash on the green - eyed monster she's walking. ❝ i'm not sure if she's, like, expressed it to you at all, but she's been really nervous about being onstage without andie and i. ❞ / @mirrorballwon

it's a good first week , one of the best that ilona can remember having in the last few seasons . their scores could be higher - she'd rolled her eyes ( heedless of the close up cameras recording her every expression ) when the head judge had given the pair a six in contrast to the other three sevens . it's a start , though , and it's only up from here . and she couldn't be more proud of paris . it's a good first week , and now all ilona wants to do is go home and sleep for as long as she can - before she has to get up early tomorrow and start this all over again . she's nearly ready to leave when a familiar voice stops her - familiar , in that she's only ever heard it lifted in song on the radio .

ah . paris had mentioned that their bandmates would be at the show . despite herself , ilona found herself uncharacteristically nervous to meet the rest of SILK . well , why wouldn't she be ? they're obviously important to paris , so of course she wants to make a good impression . so , pushing aside her exhaustion , she'll turn and say - ' oh , right ! that was before my time , but i've heard some of the others who were around back then talk about her now and then . ' exactly what the other pros had said about alyssa watts will be left to interpretation . lauren's next statement is innocuous enough , sure , but it's the tone that ilona doesn't care for . it sounds like a compliment , but she feels that it isn't . she's heard it countless times before : from the media , from the fans , and occasionally - from the celebrity's partners .

they fear that there's something more - that the sensuality of the rumba and the passion of the tango will lead to something off the dance floor as well . it’s something that non-dancers don’t understand . . . can’t understand until they step out onto the ballroom  themselves . it's art , but it's work , and she's a professional . and honestly ? kind of getting fed up with the assumption that she can't create a great moment without extra feelings getting in the way . ilona manages to resist the urge to roll her eyes ( something she couldn't refrain from earlier , in the skybox ) . so , instead she'll offer a tight smile and the age old answer she always pulls out when interviews and conversations take this turn , instantly defensive but trying not to show it . ' thanks . it's just my job , y'know ? dance is as much about acting as it is choreography . '

lauren watts likes to act like there's nothing wrong with her. there really shouldn't be. aside from the whole growing up in the semi - public eye with parents in the music industry thing, she has no reason to be . . . the way she is. she had, mostly, a crystal clear upbringing. she had a life a lot of people would gamble it all away for, and here she is, completely fucking it up for all three of them.

as usual, she'd been giving it her all out there, which is precisely what led to her twisting an ankle and toppling to the ground mid - song. lauren begs for their manager to let them return to stage, [ andie and paris are riffing back and forth at one another . . . trying to keep the audience satisfied while they attempt to sort this out, ] but she refuses, setting up the near - hysteric frontwoman in the green room. poor ilona, SILK's special guest for the evening, is right there in the crossfire.

when lauren sees her, her brows unfurrow for a moment, eyes wide . . . but then a stabbing pain shoots up her leg as the medic rolls her ankle, and the sour look on her face returns.

❝ what are you looking at, huh ? ❞ she hisses. a hand flies to her face, covering the blush on her cheeks. god, she looks like a total idiot. ilona's probably fucking loving it. she'll probably go on twitter after this and slap a heart on every video of her fall there is. ❝ either tell them to let me back out there or . . . or leave me alone ! ❞
