WIP Wednesday
Got tagged by @bardic-inspo and holy hells I haven't done one of these in forever, but I have a silly little snippet towards the end of a longfic I'm pretty sure I've written the bulk of in a fugue state. Featuring modern AU Gale getting grilled by Miriam's little sister Eleanor.
Cassian laughed as he took it, a rich, warm sound that lit up his entire face. Gale saw Miriam in that laugh, unruly and unrestrained. “Gale, I don't believe you've met my little sister Eleanor. She insisted on coming along to size you up before you got to see Miri again.” “You make it sound so crass,” Eleanor sniffed. She eyed Gale with a curious look. “Miriam has told us so much about you.” Gale let out a nervous squeak of a laugh. “Is that so?” “Hmm.” Eleanor studied him intently with a few more moments of intense silence. “I suppose whether or not her assessments have any merit remains to be seen.” “I … see.” “Ellie, what have I told you about being polite to guests?” “He's not a guest, he's shagging our sister.” Cassian snorted. “Now who's being crass?” Gale clutched his luggage tighter and began to think perhaps for once in his life he was best served remaining silent.
Tagging @sulky-valkyrie because I want to slurp up your fics through a bendy straw, and @ladymdc because I want to take your tavhalstarion and eat it like an extra large hamburger and I think the world genuinely needs more of both.

I've finally gone back to work on my canon timeline Gale/Tav series and I am very pleased to announce after a hair-pullingly wild round of edits, the final draft of The Many Virtues of Failure is officially live. Now including twice as much cosmic horror and also a funky cover page!
Tumblr media
Summary:
Miriam Taveric, the middle child of a respected family of wizards and artificers, is - quite possibly - the worst wizard to ever set foot on Baldurian soil. After a lifetime of failing to live up to her family's lofty expectations, she's resigned herself both to her ineptitude and a growing list of unhealthy vices to accompany it. When a series of poor choices earns her the ire of several local gangs, her father sends her to Waterdeep on a simple delivery job to keep her out from underfoot while he once again tidies up her mistakes. All she has to do is drop off a package to some reclusive wizard in the Sea Ward and be on her way. How hard could it be, really?

Hypothetically, ignoring anything else, Gale and Miri would be super drift compatible and also really mad about it at first. Worst part for them is that neither of them seem to be compatible with anyone else in the program because they both have massive control issues that somehow cancel each other out when they're working together, and ultimately their choices end up being robot buddies or dropping out of the program.
And you can bet your ass Gale Prodigious Talent Dekarios isn't gonna let something that stupid be the reason he washes out of the program. And Miri considers quitting out of spite to leave him in the lurch, but she's not gonna let him be the reason she leaves either because in some backwards way (by their own ridiculous metrics) that means he wins, so of course she's gonna stick it out.
The sexual tension cracks like an egg eventually and then they break an entire handbook of rules and do it sloppy style in the cockpit at some point.
I'm half asleep rn so I really haven't thought this through past Vibes Only but I feel like this could potentially be something lmfao

i went back to my canon timeline series after wrapping up the freefall epilogue and went ah beans would you look at all these continuity discrepancies!!!
dangers of starting a series without a fully fleshed out little asshole i suppose. anyway time to quietly retcon things for a few days so i can go back to writing it the way it deserves to be written sdfnsdlfnsdkfslnf
