   Though being a piano teacher and working from the comfort of her own home, and the baby grand piano that was the centerpiece of her living room, Ari’s schedule wasn’t one that could be entirely flexible. Aside from weekend, her only full day off during the week was Wednesday, and she often packed that day full of chores and errands... but with the still recent ability for magic, Ari had reserved the evenings for practice. 

   And tonight, she wasn’t alone. Mira appeared in the mess of tangled, dying ferns and the partially crumbled stone bench where Ari sat alone, pouring over her grimoire. Gen was gone for a bit - vague as always about her whereabouts, but Ari had spent enough time at Gen’s home to feel comfortable enough surrounded by the neglected plants and the stars overhead.

   She always was strongest at the first minutes of nightfall. Beside her, Mei the ferret sat chittering away. “Good evening,” Ari greeted Mira with a polite smile. Always a bit too stiff to be considered quite friendly, but Asteria and Mira definitely got the softer side of the woman, if you looked hard enough. “Are you here to practice as well? This is the first moment of peace I have had since... well, since the fuss of it all. But you are welcome to stay. Ms. Ceoi is not home.”

It was somewhat rare for Cal to have the kind of friendship he did with Mira and he appreciated it all the more because of that. For one thing, a friendship is all it would ever be and all it ever had been. They’d never been to bed together which was an extreme rarity in his life and they never would. That and her betrothal to Eve provided a double layer of protection for him - there was no possible chance for his traitorous heart to fall in love with her and he could dispense with his usual precautions. It made things more comfortable for him, easier, not having to worry about that. Instead, he just got to enjoy her presence and their closeness which he did, very much, though they hadn’t always had a lot of time to see each other. That would be one benefit to being here much more frequently, though he would obviously have to return to court semi frequently as well. 

“The flight was perfectly fine, yes. Short, in fact, since I came in from Nice.” It had barely been over an hour and Cal preferred it that way. He was used to flying, certainly, but he was old fashioned enough to still somewhat distrust it. Most modern amenities he embraced with open arms but being thousands of feet up in the air in a flying metal trap was still slightly unnerving to think about. Her smile fades, clearly worried about everything that’s going on, and he understand that but he still hates to see it. “Come now, Mira, it’s not all bad. The fact that I’m here now on a much more permanent basis is cause for celebration, isn’t it? In fact, I insist that we celebrate.”
