still on indefinite hiatus whoops.

This blog focuses on my Rain World OCs involved in the "Mobile Iterator Project" AU. ^_^

The “Mobile Iterator Project” (MIP) is a project created and directed by an Ancient named "No Cost Too Great" (NCTG) with the stated goal of supporting standard iterators in their productivity, maintenance, and longevity, so that they can operate at maximum efficiency, even after the inevitable mass ascension. ‘MIP Units’—iterators under the project—are created puppet-first in the "MIP Development Center" and later assigned to Local Groups, where their structures are built to support the Iterators around them. Uniquely, their personalities are heavily based around singular, specific Architects (Ancients) who donate their memories and qualia. The exception to this is TWR. In total, there are 99 MIP Units, with IDs ranging from 01 to 99.

(This AU strays pretty far from the themes and canon of both Vanilla Rain World and Downpour, so please keep that in mind!)

RAR Containment Post (1)

i don't know how to explain RAR. they're... an AU character, I guess? like... Director's mipsona. They have a lot of spoilers surrounding them, though.

the idea was that they had an arm welded on, and eventually it would break off as their structure received more damage. I don't really want this direction anymore, I think. They don't need to be welded to their connector arm to be trapped and contained, and I'd like them to get carried around a bit. the idea that they mellow out and become a better person is going to stick, though.

design brainstorming. the wings reminded me too much of someone else's concept and the vulture inspiration isn't quite what I wanted so I changed them later. The concept behind their design was to create something like an inversion of NCTG. their design is quite ornate, but it makes them look like some kind of trinket / display piece rather than an intimidating and important member of society. A pointed commentary on MIP Unit design trends.

This was mainly spurred on by Thorns. Later, I refine the idea somewhat to include 99... I need to work on that. Anyways, the insurrection was initially carried out without input from PU and SLS. They helped after things were already set in motion, but... Unlike TWR, they successfully repressed their desires to revolt, and a change in the status quo is scary for them. It's kind of complicated; they have very negative feelings towards NCTG, but they can't imagine life without following their commands. They're very conditioned.

I'd also like to add for Horizon, specifically, they could use procedural textures for 99% of the robots and facilities and it would run leaner and look better,even on PS4/5 - get a good metal shader, a couple good flow shaders, and your base could be a single 7f7f7f pixel and the robot would look every bit as good. Likely don't even need displacement or other fancy layers - but instead they're sending 4k by 4k textures with dozens of mip maps that are spectacularly large given the percentage of pixels that ever factor into the actual display, even at 4k.

One thing there is NVidia, specifically, replaces shaders with less detailed ones, simplifies textures, etc. - this is what game ready means - and then on top of that, is going to use AI to synthesize lower quality frames to keep up rates. But I think the big issue is that they've been covering hard for optimization in the drivers - which means if I am a large company, rather than pay a programmer to optimize a shader, I can just use unoptimized garbage, and NVidia will find it and fix it

And tools like Unreal Engine and Unity often don't help - you go into the asset store and pull down a random texture, and it likely is not optimized. You feed them a PNG, and they likely don't optimize even that without third party add ones.

Another thing driving this is in engine cut scenes. Civ 7, as an example, has a massive, multiple minute video that everyone is going to skip after the first time. I've not checked files on it, but Civ 5 and 6 put OVER 20 COPIES of the video file, versus just using separate audio tracks for each supported language. And installs all of those files all of the time, with them also not using a particularly good codec.

If you're releasing in multiple languages, package them as free DLC, if you're not packaging different regional packages. This lets people not install gigs of audio they're never going to hear.

this is a controversial opinion and I’m not a gamer but I don’t need my graphics to be that good. I don’t need to see every individual feather on a bird. my poor computer doesn’t deserve to carry that weight either.

The first two screenshots are a little misleading. We see “99% of tested brains” but because we can’t see the source of the screenshot or it’s citations there’s no clue to how many deceased former players participated in/donated their bodies to this science. There’s likely a high bias towards men who were affected donating their brains to be studied.

The second screenshot is also a bit misleading. They did not kill themselves so they could be studied. That study would not have been approved. They did make sure not to damage their brains so they could still be studied. Is this horrific? Yes, but I think not as horrific as thinking someone killed themself just for science.

Is American football one of the worst sports for TBI incidence? Yes. There’s also meta-analysis of published studies ranking rugby higher than American football in concussion incidence, and ice hockey is consistently just behind football - and not by a lot. (For all the people in the notes going oh it’s American football not soccer… yeah soccer is the leading cause of concussions for women in sport)

What muddies the waters a lot is that currently there are few international studies or reviews. Football is the most popular sport in the US and the most studied. Don’t confuse the heightened awareness of the risk around American football to mean other sports are safe.

If you want to enact change? Don’t just go around saying “oh no no one should ever play football again” because you know that’s not going to work.

I witnessed an accident at the top level in my sport (Eventing) that put someone in a coma. It’s been months and I don’t think she’s woken up. I sold a horse to someone and found out she died a year later in an accident during competition. Regardless, I’m still committed to reaching the top levels. Because unfortunately risk doesn’t put people off of participating in sports they enjoy.

If you’re involved in a sport find out who is doing safety research on it - I guarantee there’s someone - and donate to it if you can. Be risk aware. Wear your safety gear and please please please replace helmets after they’ve suffered an impact or are past their expiration date.

And DEMAND transparency from your sports regulatory bodies. Write to, call, email the boards of directors and safety committees. Ask for helmet safety standards that include testing rotational forces.

Every sport should have guidelines to take athletes out of play if they suspect a concussion. Push to have these guidelines ENFORCED. Every sport should have incident data available every year. Some organizations are good at this and some are terrible. If you can’t find it - ask why.

The endocannabinoid system is known to play an important role in regulating immunity and scientists consider it to be one of the “gatekeepers” of the immune system.1 The endocannabinoid system includes receptors known as cannabinoid receptors 1 and 2 (CB1 and CB2) as well as the endogenous cannabinoids anandamide (AEA) and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) and enzymes that influence the production of these endocannabinoids.

There’s scientific evidence that cells of the immune system express both CB1 and CB2, although CB2 concentrations are higher than CB1.2

How CBD and the immune system interact

Cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive component of Cannabis sativa, is a phytocannabinoid that acts on the endocannabinoid system and may have the ability to maintain a balanced and healthy immune system.*

Transient receptor potential vanilloid 2 (TRPV2), a protein that facilitates the communication of cells with their extracellular environment, plays an important role in healthy immune system function.3 CBD activates TRPV2 and also influences other transient receptor potential (TRP) channels involved in supporting immunity.3*

Hemp-based CBD oil may have both direct and indirect mechanisms for maintaining immunity.* This article covers four ways in which pairing CBD and the immune system may support immune health.

Increasing natural killer cells*

In animal studies investigating autoimmune health, CBD oil from hemp has been shown to balance the immune system by reducing the activity of T cells, B cells, and both T helper and T cytotoxic lymphocyte subsets.4* However, outside of an autoimmune arena, CBD supports the activity of natural killer (NK) cells, a type of white blood cell.4*

NK cells are a major player in the body’s response to the presence of viruses.* CBD also supports the activity of natural killer T cells, which share properties of both NK cells and T cells.* In vitro studies have shown CBD has actions of interest to people who want to maintain immune health in the liver.5*

Supporting a healthy inflammatory response*

CBD is well known for its ability to maintain a healthy inflammatory response.* In animals, CBD supports a healthy inflammatory response in the lungs.6* It also improves lung function in mice exposed to a lung irritant.*

In one study, CBD enhanced markers of healthy lungs such as decreased total lung resistance and elastance, leukocyte migration into the lungs, myeloperoxidase activity in the lung tissue, and protein concentration as well as maintenance of healthy levels of cytokines (TNF and IL-6) and chemokines (MCP-1 and MIP-2).* This could potentially assist with respiratory function.*

Maintaining a healthy gut microbiota*

A large proportion of the immune system is located in the GI tract, where there are large numbers of organized lymphoid tissue and scattered innate and adaptive effector cells.7

The gut microbiota, the collection of organisms — good and bad — found in the intestines play an important role in helping the body have a balanced immune response.8

Excessive inflammation in the gut can lead to intestinal permeability, gut microbiota dysbiosis, and an impaired intestinal immune response.9,10 One way the body counteracts this is through the endocannabinoid system. 9,10  

Like endogenous cannabinoids, CBD also has been found to support a healthy intestinal  inflammatory response in human trials.11* The key message here is that keeping the gut healthy supports overall immunity.*

A calming effect during everyday mild stress and frustration*

Ongoing psychological stress is linked to a decline in immunity.12 CBD is involved in a healthy stress response.*

Unlike endogenous cannabinoids, which work on the CB1 receptor, CBD supplementation leads to direct activation of the 5-HT1A serotonin receptor.*13,14 CBD stress-relieving properties are also related to its ability to modulate cerebral blood flow in brain regions involved in anxiety including the amygdala, hippocampus, hypothalamus and cingulate cortex.15*

In human trials, CBD was found to reduce mild stress in people giving a speech.* For example, researchers observed the effects of different doses of CBD and placebo in 57 healthy male participants performing a simulated public speaking test.16* In this double-blind study, subjects were given oral CBD at doses of 150 mg, 300 mg, or 600 mg or a placebo prior to the public speaking test. Compared with the placebo, 300 mg of CBD led to the subjects being more calm and relaxed during the speech.

The “Mobile Iterator Project” (MIP) is a project created and directed by a Benefactor named "No Cost Too Great" (NCTG) with the stated goal of supporting Iterators in their productivity, maintenance, and longevity, so that they can operate at maximum efficiency, even after the inevitable mass ascension. ‘MIP Units—Iterators created under the project—are created puppet-first in the "MIP Development Center" and later assigned to Local Groups, where their structures are built to support the Iterators around them. Uniquely, their personalities are heavily based around singular, specific Architects (Benefactors) who donate their memories and qualia. The exception to this is TWR, who features a more traditional personality module. In total, there are 99 MIP Units, with IDs ranging from 01 to 99.

As a kid I had these books where you had to find specific bugs or sea creatures in a huge scene filled with animals. In the back of the book, there was versions of each picture where all the creatures were silhouetted and numbered, along with a guide to help you find where certain creatures are. So that’s what this is. I guess this can be helpful if you either don’t recognize a character and want to find their name, or cant find a certain character in the picture.
