[Series Review] Trillion Game (2023)

Full disclosure. I saw so many clips of this that I decided to watch it. And yes, I decided to watch the live-action of My Happy Marriage because of those clips too.

I already saw it on Netflix and was curious but I didn't really want to add it to my long "to-watch" list. But here we are.

I only know two things when I decided to click on that first ep: one, that it was based on a manga and two, that the two actors from My Happy Marriage were here.

The premise was so preposterous you just know you're setting yourself up for yet another drama with impossible feats - and I wasn't wrong. There is no way their start-up company would rise up that quickly. But hey, I stayed for the cast.

Meguro Ren played one-half of the duo, the mastermind and master manipulator, Tennoji Haru, and he did it splendidly. I haven't read the manga so I couldn't really compare it but he gave off that conman street smarts with skills to the dot. He was awfully smiley here too so that was a bonus.

The other half, Taira Manabu, was played by Sano Hayato and though I enjoyed him being the kindhearted computer genius, I can't really say much more about his acting here. This is my first time seeing him and he was okay. He was painfully awkward as his character demanded him to be so there's that. We never really learned why Haru calls him Gaku. I thought we were gonna get a flashback. (Or maybe it was explained but it flew over my head.)

Completing the unlikely trio (from the OG duo) is the adorably cute Takahashi Rinrin played by Fukumoto Riko. I liked her character so much, especially her Torinrin AI ego. It was my first time seeing her in a drama as well and she kept reminding me of another actress. She was the moral compass the group badly needed (of course since Haru didn't have one and Gaku mostly followed Haru).

My favorite character (and actor) hands down was Kokuryu Kirika, played by Imada Mio. First of all, I never realized how deep (and sultry) her voice is. Or maybe she deliberately made it that way for her character, but I loved it. I love her in her boss bitch era. And her looks! Slay after slay! Okay, enough about her because I would be gushing.

The plot points of the drama were so outrageous (join a competition and blatantly cheat to win; make an AI online app but wait, it's not really AI and we will answer all inquiries real-time anywhere; make a game but not really, just say we're making it to get investors). It was a rollercoaster but it was enjoyable if you just go with the flow.

When I say, I stayed for the cast, I think you know which two I meant. I wanted to know what would happen to their characters but alas, this is not a romance manga and we only get a few sprinkles of interactions in each episode. And guess what, I ate those up. They make up 5 of the 8 points I gave tbh. I also liked the Gaku/Rinrin moments. I don't know if these (and the Haru/Kirika) interactions were in the manga or just additions in the series.

So yeah, they said "See you next game!" so I'm going to wait if that actually happens. I also want to know Haru's actual motivation because he clearly doesn't want a trillion dollars just for the heck of it.

How Monolith Soft’s Future Was Redeemed

Whether you’ve heard of game developer Monolith Soft before or not, if you’re into the gaming landscape they’re definitely a name worth remembering, and they’ve had quite the history over their 23 years in the business. Founded by Tetsuya Takahashi and Hirohide Sugiura, themselves veterans of Square from the 1990s, the company has undergone many trials and tribulations and worked with a variety of different companies from 1999 to the present day. With their latest release wrapping up the current trilogy in the Xenoblade series, I figured there was no better time than to look back and reflect on the journey the company and the founders of that company have gone through, so let’s get right to it!

TAKAHASHI’S PERFECT WORKS

Looking at Takahashi’s resume alone will show that he had a hand in a variety of beloved games during his time at Square. Working on Final Fantasy IV, V and VI among a few other titles such as Romancing Saga, Takahashi and his wife, Soraya Saga, would pitch an idea for the seventh Final Fantasy game. While rejected for being considered too dark for the brand, they were eventually given permission to develop it into their own title, which would become known as Xenogears. Takahashi and Saga had ambitious plans for the title, believing it could become a massive franchise in its own right, though the actual game’s development was fraught with issues.

Xenogears was composed of two discs, and the first disc set up lofty expectations for the rest of the game, balancing a story steeped in religious and philosophical themes alongside turn-based battles that would utilize giant robots, or “Gears.” However, the second disc was mostly comprised of narration from characters with hardly any gameplay or cinematics. This was allegedly done as a result of both the development team’s inexperience and inability to extend the two year development deadline, and thus was done as a compromise of sorts, or else the game would have shipped half-complete. The game’s English localization almost didn’t happen, with several translators quitting the project, both due to the difficulty of translating a game loaded up with references to various scientific and philosophical concepts, on top of controversy surrounding its religious themes. Despite these setbacks, the game was still critically acclaimed and it was clear that Takahashi and Saga were keen on developing the game’s world more. Alongside development of Xenogears they had also crafted “Perfect Works,” their plans for other installments in the setting that would span a much larger story. Xenogears itself was considered, chronologically, to be the fifth part of what would have eventually been six entries.

However, Takahashi and company had routinely faced issues with Square both before and during development of this title. Growing frustrated with their prioritizing of the Final Fantasy brand above all else, they would eventually found Monolith Soft, taking with them a number of other staff they worked with. They found themselves in bed with Namco, who would publish their games for much of the 2000s. Monolith Soft would then decide to start over and craft a new franchise that would follow Perfect Works…and that game would become the Xenosaga series.

A more explicitly sci-fi series from the get go, Xenosaga was conceived as a six game series, with possible plans for it branching out into multimedia, with an animated series and manga series produced, alongside a few spinoffs titles that would end up staying Japan exclusive. A spiritual successor through and through, Xenosaga contained a number of references to the Xenogears series, alongside a continued focus on mech battles, religious and philosophical themes and turn-based combat. While the first game was a strong debut for this new franchise, each subsequent entry would sell less and less, eventually trimming the series down to three games out of its originally planned six. History repeated with regards to development issues, particularly with Xenosaga: Episode II, as Takahashi had taken on a supervising role, and the team itself was composed of newer staff that wasn’t prepared for such an ambitious title. Takahashi would admit the series underperformed on the whole, part of the reason for the sudden halving of the planned story. Despite a clean start, it seemed as if Perfect Works was anything but a perfect project, with now two failed franchises behind them. However, the winds of fate would wind up changing.

FINDING THEIR FOOTING WITH NINTENDO

Monolith Soft ended up cozying up with Nintendo as the years went on, eventually being purchased by the company and becoming a first-party studio in the late 2000s. Morale at the studio was low after Xenosaga’s abrupt ending, but Takahashi was ready to move onto a new project as a way to boost employee spirits. Coming from an image that appeared in his head of two gigantic gods locked in fierce battle, the idea would develop into a game originally titled Monado: Beginning of the World. However, at the behest of former Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata, the title would be changed to Xenoblade, to honor the struggles Monolith Soft had undergone over the years and serve as a slight connecting thread to past projects. And the rest is history…to a point.

The original Xenoblade Chronicles debuted on the Wii in 2010, a massive near open-world RPG with a deep MMO-inspired combat system and an ambitious story. Compared to past efforts, Xenoblade was a game that Takahashi and company were able to realize with a comparatively smooth development, with few compromises to the original vision of the game at that. Releasing to relatively high critical acclaim, the game was initially not localized outside of Japan. Eventually Nintendo of Europe showed interest and would localize it, but Nintendo of America wouldn’t budge. This game, alongside a few others, actually inspired the “Operation Rainfall” fan movement to give them more attention and see localization (and I’ve even written about it before LINK HERE), and while Nintendo might not publically acknowledge the campaign as a deciding factor the game would eventually be brought to North America…exclusively in Gamestop stores. A low initial print, combined with Gamestop selling “used” copies at high prices, insured it became one of the harder to find Wii games, and while it was somewhat better known outside of Japan, it was still rather niche.

That began to change in the Wii U era, however. In a 2013 Nintendo Direct showcasing early looks at various Wii U games, a mysterious title from Monolith Soft was shown. Codenamed X, it was yet another massive RPG with a decidedly more sci-fi look…that sure seemed familiar. Eventually releasing as Xenoblade Chronicles X in 2015, this title would also see acclaim for its massive world and complex combat, though being a Wii U release it didn’t exactly reach many players. A year prior however, Shulk was revealed to be included in the base roster for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, being the last character announced before launch. This helped to put Xenoblade as a series on the map, and gave some momentum that Monolith Soft would continue into the Nintendo Switch era.

Since their acquisition, Monolith Soft would also work as a support studio for Nintendo, particular with their Kyoto office comprised mainly of artists, creating assets for a variety of projects. Over the years, they’ve worked on the Super Smash. Bros. series (Brawl), the Legend of Zelda series (from Skyward Sword all the way to Tears of the Kingdom), the Animal Crossing series from New Leaf onward as well as the Splatoon series. Their help was greatly appreciated with the more recent console Zelda titles in particular, as they were instrumental in creating the vast expanses that would help make Breath of the Wild a smash hit. Considering they’ve lent their talents to a variety of games that have gone on to sell like hotcakes and break past previous franchise records, I think that really helped them prove their worth as an asset for Nintendo, and as such they are given license to continue their own ambitious projects.

At the tail end of 2017, the Switch’s debut year, we would get Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which would go on to become the best-selling entry in the series and experience a boon of new players. More in-line with the fantasy aesthetics of the Wii game, 2 also continued exploring similar themes and further developing the battle system shared across both previous games in the series. Despite its success, the game itself still ran into problems though. With much of Monolith staff working on BOTW it was mostly a skeleton crew on Xenoblade 2, resulting in a number of third-party artists being brought on to ensure the game could be completed, though that also led to complaints about the inconsistent art style and character designs. Technically, the game had issues at launch that were slowly patched out, and being the first simultaneous worldwide launch of the series, it was clear that the English localization was not given as much care as previous games. Despite this, it was clear that this title was what helped to establish Xenoblade as a core Nintendo IP moving forward, and the franchise continues to do well.

A BRIGHT FUTURE AHEAD

Following Xenoblade 2’s release, it would receive a prequel game as part of its expansion pass, Torna: The Golden Country, which fleshed out events happening in that game’s distant past, alongside polishing up gameplay to relative acclaim. In 2020, an enhanced port of Xenoblade Chronicles 1 would release on the Switch, with updated visuals (in particular polishing up the character models), and a new epilogue story, Future Connected. The heroines of Xenoblade 2, Pyra and Mythra, would be announced as playable characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s second Fighters Pass as well.

In 2022, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 would see a surprise reveal at the start of the year, releasing just a few months later. After the somewhat mixed reception of the previous game, 3 received rave reviews and several Game of the Year nominations. Many felt it to be an emotionally charged journey, once again spanning a massive world and containing complex combat to wrap it all together. In just a few years, the entire trilogy was now available all on one system. Not too shabby for a series initially struggling to get localized.

The major thing to remember with the Xenoblade series is that it was yet another fresh start for Takahashi and company. While still clearly its own thing, as the years went on many eagle-eyed fans would spot various references to past Xeno games. These often were seen as knowing winks and nods, but little else. When it came to various characters and story beats, there were also some connecting threads indicating that Takahashi, after all of these years, might finally be dusting off “Perfect Works” and starting anew again, after he had previously sworn it off and considered the ideas scrapped. One major change this time around however seemed to be based around making sure each individual game in the Xenoblade series would be a standalone tale that wouldn’t require playing previous entries. There were some connecting threads, yes, but ultimately each entry could stand on its own and fully realize a given theme or story idea without having to overtly connect into a larger narrative. And then Xenoblade 3’s story DLC happened.

Released at the tail-end of April 2023, Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed was yet another prequel campaign in a similar vein to Torna. Future Redeemed would cover events that occurred in the backstory for the base game, however this time around it became clear VERY quickly that this was where it would all come together. Without getting into the details of things, on top of being wary of spoiling this expansion after it just released, Future Redeemed ends up being the means to tie the trilogy together and end it on a satisfying note, with a conclusion that gave fans a lot of closure. Various theories were finally put to rest, though just as many have sprung up in the wake of that game’s ending.

It isn’t immediately clear just where this franchise, or Monolith Soft as a company, will be going next, but my gut tells me we have some great things in store. The core Xenoblade trilogy may be done, but Takahashi has gone on record stating he wants the series to continue for as long as he can do so. There’s still a lot of clear affection for their previous efforts as well. Xenosaga’s KOS-MOS and T-ELOS were guest characters in Xenoblade Chronicles 2’s expansion pass, and there have been more…overt nods to the series in general as time has gone on. There are rumors here and there that the series might return in some form. At the very least, I’m sure many a fan would be happy with simple ports to current systems, but we’ll have to wait and see just where Takahashi’s Wild Ride takes us.

In the end, I’m just happy to see that Monolith Soft has managed to turn out alright after all these years. I first became aware of them when, on a lark, I picked up a copy of the original Xenoblade. I was struck by that game’s scope and ambition and I’ve been a diehard fan ever since. Seeing just how much they’ve been carrying Nintendo into the Switch era, I think it’s only fair that they get the respect they deserve. On top of it all, it sounds like the company promotes a fairly healthy work/life balance, and their time with Nintendo has enabled them to see their visions through with few compromises. A win-win for all involved, really. Their own original entries might always be a bit niche and definitely won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but I’m glad their ambitions are becoming more and more realized as time goes on. From humble beginnings in the trenches at Square, to now being a pillar of one of the Big Three game publishers, I can’t wait to see the heights that Monolith Soft can climb.

In the city of Odate, Akita, there have been multiple deaths in the past few weeks. The first-grade sorcerer Nanami Kento is sent out to investigate the snowy city, not knowing that it would be his last mission as a Jujutsu High student.

The curse-user had claimed yet another victim, 28-year-old woman Takahashi Mio. Given that the killings were timely spread apart, Gojo and Nanami decided it was best if they went alone to investigate this latest death. Gojo provided Shiori with his burner phone number, just in case.

"So, Nanami, could you get me up to speed on what is going on?" Gojo asked.

"Didn't you speak to Yaga principal? I've been giving him daily reports."

"No."

How could the supposedly strongest jujutsu sorcerer of our age not get any information about the mission before he got here? Gojo's irresponsibility was particularly bothersome for Nanami most of the time.

"And did you talk to Ijichi?"

"Oh, that I certainly did! Before yesterday, actually!" 

Nanami remembered Ijichi's demeanor on the phone. "Well, did you threaten him in any way?" He asked.

"I strongly suggested he didn't report his findings to you on Jujutsu High's phone anymore." Gojo grinned.

Earlier that day, when they were at Shiori's house, Ijichi relayed to Nanami all of his findings about the Yamada family. Obtaining this information was particularly difficult, because Jujutsu High's archives that he could search did not offer a lot of information about the family, something that was unusual, so Ijichi faced a little more digging around than he was accustomed to.

Gojo helped (with a healthy dose of strong encouragement called "try to look in forbidden or somewhat classified archives" right before he left).

According to Ijichi, the Yamadas did not have the best relationship with the Jujutsu Society established by Tengen and frequented by the clans. The Yamadas didn't even consider themselves as a clan, given they wouldn't keep most of their jujutsu traditions or preserve their name during the centuries, and started to spread as non-sorcerers throughout Japan, while most of them stayed within Akita's prefecture. Those that remained were mostly the ones born jujutsu sorcerers.

It seemed that the main reason the Yamadas and Jujutsu Society did not get along was because Yamadas never surrendered their cursed objects or tools to them for safe keeping. There was one object worth noting, specifically, that the Jujutsu Society was keen on having, as it involved the ability to guard cursed objects, tools, and nearly anything with cursed energy above a certain threshold in a very convoluted way. Ijichi didn't quite find what it was, unfortunately, and questioning Shiori served little to no purpose for that matter.

Nanami was starting to suspect Shiori might've been withholding information.

And about her parents, they were apparently the most well respected members of the family up until their disappearance, serving as the informal leaders of the Yamadas. They had twins, Shiori and Shiro, both born with the ability to see curses and manipulate cursed energy.

"Could this object be like Toji's cursed spirit? The one that kept his arsenal?"

Gojo went silent for a moment. "Yes."

Even though Gojo's silence was usually something Nanami longed for during most of their interchanges, this was actually sorrowful. He felt bad for Satoru and the memories that might've evoked.

"So, we are working with the hypothesis that this is a mission for retrieving cursed objects, and not actually exorcizing anything or capturing anyone?" Nanami said.

"No!" Gojo promptly answered. "Nanamin, quiz time!"

"You don't know anything about quizzes." This roundabout way Satoru had of getting his points across was incredibly obnoxious. Nanami wasn't feeling so empathetic anymore.

"What were we sent to do in Odate?" Gojo asked, with a child-like smile on his face.

"What I was sent to do while you were unavailable was to investigate these deaths and deal with what was causing them."

"Correct! We were sent to do just that!"

Nanami sighed. "Ok."

"Next question: what is the probable cause of these deaths?"

Nanami was questioning if this was actually leading anywhere.

"A curse user, most likely."

"Correct again!" Satoru responded like he was in a trivia TV show.

Nanami put his fingers in between his eyes, fighting an emerging headache as they walked in the streets of Odate. "Can you please just say what you're thinking?"

"I'm teaching my underclassman!" 

"I do not respect you as my upperclassman."

"I need to train my teaching skills!"

Nanami dreaded the image of Gojo Satoru being a teacher, as that implied he'd be the most responsible person in the room — that room being a classroom.

Gojo proceeded, "We're here to capture a curse user and take him in for questioning, preferably. What does that tell you about what Jujutsu High wants from us?"

That they want us to take this curse user to them, who probably knows how to find the actual object of their interest, Nanami completed in his head.

"I see your point. What is your plan, then?" Nanami asked Gojo.

Some girls were walking by and started commenting on "the tall guy with white hair". Gojo lowered his glasses and winked. The girls went mad. One of them fainted. Nanami sighed heavily.

"We get to that object first and retrieve that. I'd like to know what it is and how it works. Information is important, you know?" He answered, pushing his pitch black glasses back into position.

Gojo seemed like an uninterested idiot at times, yet he was definitely not dumb, nor easily manipulated by Jujutsu High's leadership.

"Hey, Nanamin!"

"Stop calling me that."

"We should go eat after we finish this, I heard they have the best Kiritanpo here in Odate!"

Nanami sighed, yet again, for Gojo had started with his foodie shenanigans. At least the cold breeze helped with the headache.

As they approached the scene, the same hectic scenery ensued. The building was surrounded by curious people, some news reporters, and the entrance had police tape around it. 

"Gojo, we should check the perimeter first. Last time this happened, the curse user got away from me."

"Sure. I teleport myself in, and you go and do your checking."

It actually was a good plan.

"Fine." Before Nanami finished the word, Satoru had already vanished. He then started walking around the building to look for any suspicious activity, or even the motorcycle. There was not much going on other than what he had seen already, and no trace of cursed activity on the outside, so he decided he would simply wait around and see what Gojo found.

However, as he was about to just sit and wait, he saw something. Haru, that fox from the first day, was right on the other side of the street, looking at the apartment complex.

What is going on?

Nanami started walking towards the animal, but as soon as Haru saw him, it just bolted away. Given that it was not anything of importance, He decided to let it go and keep waiting for Gojo to come back.

"I'm done!" Satoru said, as he appeared back right beside Nanami. "Found some interesting things. Let's take a look."

First, he took out a small wooden box, just like the one that was in Nakamura's office. It had cursed energy traces all over it. 

"I've seen one of those before, at the last murder scene." Nanami said.

"You have? Well, how about this?" Gojo said, as he took some papers out of his pocket. He figured that if the last victim was a Yamada that had changed his surname, this was also a possibility in this case. And he was right.

The high school conclusion certificate read Yamada Mio.

"This is concerning".

"Definitely." Gojo responded. He then took his burner phone and called Ijichi. "Ijichi, we have a request. Search all the victims, see if they've changed their names and were previously Yamadas. Also, please, check similar death's throughout Japan in the past few months."

"Last three months." Nanami said.

Gojo looked at him. "Last three months" he said before hanging up. "Why that time frame?" He asked, looking straight at Nanami.

"Come. Let's have lunch. I'll fill you in."

"So, this lady is pretty sus, huh?" Gojo said, as he had three kiritanpo rice sticks stuffed in his mouth.

"She doesn't seem like a bad person." Nanami responded.

Gojo thought about it. "You're usually not a bad judge of character" he said, as he pulled the three sticks out of his mouth at the same time, completely scraped clean and started talking with his mouth full. "But someone can be a good person and still do bad things. People find all sorts of justifications for their shit." He wasn't wrong.

"There are some things that are not adding up." Nanami pondered. 

"What about this brother? Have they not contacted the police or anything about his disappearance?" Gojo grabbed three rice sticks simultaneously.

"Apparently, they haven't. But that could be explained by the fact that he probably would be dealing with cursed spirits involved in their parents’ disappearance. His sister seemed aware of that possibility." Nanami grabbed a single rice stick and started eating at a normal rate.

"I see." Gojo responded with his mouthful of rice. "Hey, Nanami..." his tone shifted to a more serious one. Nanami noticed it.

"What?"

"How is this mission working out for you?" He lowered his glasses so he could look directly into Nanami's eyes as he waited for a response.

Nanami contemplated if he really had an answer for that question, as he started to speak without really knowing what would come out of his mouth. "At first, it was angering to see they'd put me up for another mission that seemed above my capacities." He meditated for a moment. "But I'm fine now. I simply want to finish this mission. Why?"

Gojo smiled. "Nothing. It's nice to see you still have a good head on your shoulders." He said, giving Nanami a little tap on his back as he got up. "Well, let's detective Conan this!"

Satoru was back to using references. Nanami was not pleased.

Gojo's phone rang, and he picked it up. It was Ijichi. Satoru's demeanor went from playful to serious, as he said, "ok. Thanks for letting me know." and ended the call. "We have to go back to that house now."

"Why is that?" Nanami asked.

"All the victims were Yamadas". Gojo answered, as he put his phone away. "If my thinking is right..."

"She could actually be the next target."

As they got back to the house, the sky grew grayer. The sun was about to set, and they knew they had to question Shiori for real this time. Nanami knocked on the door, but before Shiori could open it after unlocking, Gojo just barged in screaming Good evening!

"Hey, guys! You're back." She said, greeting them with a smile and feeling startled as a giant dude with white hair had just let himself into her house unceremoniously.

"We are." Nanami responded. "And we have some questions for you."

Shiori looked at him somewhat confused. "Let me just feed Haru."

Gojo looked at her confused.

"It's a fox, I feed it sometimes." She clarified.

"Oh."

After Shiori went outside with a bowl of food for the animal, she walked back into the living room, where they were waiting for her. "Well, ok. What would you like to know?"

"Firstly, what you really might know about all these deaths." He answered, bluntly.

She sighed, resigned. "You said something about a venomous shikigami, haven't you? Well, I know something about that."

"What do you know?" He asked. Gojo was just standing in the corner of the room, watching the conversation.

"I know there is a shikigami technique that runs in my family, one where we can summon poisonous creatures. Most of us summoned flying snakes. Some curse users in my family might be the culprit."

"Why didn't you tell me this earlier?" Nanami asked.

"I... I don't know." Shiori said as she sat down on a chair, feeling embarrassed. "I've never really been able to trust or rely on anyone other than my brother. And I barely know you!" she said, looking at him. "And we kind of met when you were being a creepy stalker and I had a gun."

"Please, stop saying that." Nanami replied while he sighed.

"Stalker? Gun? What?" Gojo asked, seemingly puzzled.

"And you're from Jujutsu High, on top of it all. I don't know if you're both aware of that, but my family never got along very well with you guys. I never had much of a reason to trust anything you told me." She said.

Nanami stood silent. After all, she wasn't exactly wrong.

Shiori looked at Gojo. "Can you imagine if you came into my house and I said, 'hey, one of my relatives might be the murderer?' What would you do to me, then?" She sighed. "And to be fair, I still don't trust you both completely. So, yeah. What else would you like to know?" 

"Is there any special cursed object in your family?" Nanami asked.

"... Why do you want to know that?" She retorted.

The answer was clearly yes. "These killings might be related to it." Gojo answered from across the room. "The murderer is collecting cursed objects at the crime scenes and leaving these behind." Gojo showed her one of the wooden boxes. 

"Oh, I see."

"Do you know what these are?" He asked.

"Yes."

They were all silent for some time.

"Will you tell us what they are?" Gojo replied.

"No."

Gojo wanted to smack her.

"And you both are 'good guys', I can tell that much. You won't beat me up for information."

She was right. He still wanted to smack her.

"You should know that all the victims were Yamadas." Nanami said. "You could very well be the next target."

She was taken aback. "All of them?"

"All of them." Gojo said, trying to sway her stance from that bit of information.

She considered her options for a moment. "Shit." If she gave them the entire information, they would probably catch the culprit and just leave. She wouldn't be in danger's way anymore, but would probably have to surrender things her parents left her to Jujutsu High. On top of that, her brother was still missing, and after learning that Yamadas were dying left and right, he could possibly be in danger. There was another option. 

"Well, that's life. I can die in my sleep." She shrugged. "But I do have valuable information. I just need you to help me with something first." Shiori said.

"What?" Nanami asked.

"Help me find my brother." These guys, while a dynamic team themselves, were clearly good at their jobs, and she could sense that Gojo was a particularly powerful sorcerer. She knew this was the best — and, maybe, only — bet at finding her missing brother. 

We just got side-quested, Gojo thought, as he groaned and made his way into the kitchen. He hated being pulled into situations he couldn't simply solve by using his powers and beating or exploding things. "Are there any cookies left?"

"Can you both help me find my brother? Please?" She asked, worriedly waiting for an answer.

Nanami and Gojo said "yes" at the same time. Both of them sounded defeated.

"Fine. Then let's get talking. We need to find the remaining Yamadas in town. As much as I want to find my brother, I don't want anybody to die because of that." Shiori said. "There were 9 deaths, right?"

"There were 12, actually." Nanami replied.

"What?" She was very surprised. "What do you mean by twelve deaths?"

"They happened in other cities, with the same M.O." Gojo responded from the kitchen. He sounded like he was munching on something.

"And they were all Yamadas?" She said.

"Yes."

"Well, I need their names, right now." She opened a drawer and grabbed a key. "Come, follow me, you two."

They all went upstairs, following Shiori's lead. She then went inside the main bedroom, which was a little unkempt, and seemed unused for a while now. "Now, where was it...?" She started stomping on the ground, until they heard a hollow board. "Here!" Pulling it up, the woman grabbed a chest and opened it. Inside it, there was a small black notebook. 

Before she could do anything, Gojo grabbed the notebook.

"What the hell?!" She yelled, surprised. Damn, he's fast.

"We need to be absolutely certain you're not withholding important information again." He opened it. There was a huge list of names. The pages were yellowy, and the small notebook seemed pretty old. "What is this?"

"The list of people that might be targets, from what you both have told me. Flip to the last pages, the most recent ones are there."

He did, and instantly read many familiar names under those that were already struck out. Nanami approached and looked at the notebook too. The name "Yamada Itsuki" popped out. 

"Your mother's name is here." He said.

"I know. Let's cross out that, and also everyone that has died. Whoever doesn't have their names crossed will be the next targets."

"And how do you know that?" Gojo asked.

"I just do. You told me that people were dying and getting cursed objects stolen from that box, right?" They stayed silent. "So I'm sure that list is what we need. People usually just change their surnames, and keep their first names. This should be easy enough." 

Nanami and Gojo asked Ijichi to send them the list of all the deceased's names, and after striking out those, there were only 2 names left. Miyuki Yamada and Ayako Yamada. They relayed that information to Ijichi and asked him to search for residents in Odate that went by the names Miyuki and Ayako, who were or had been married.

"Well, now we wait." Gojo said, sitting down and resting his face on his hand.

"I guess." Shiori replied, while her mood shifted. "I'll be going downstairs for now."

She did, while Gojo and Nanami shared a look. Gojo's look meant, what do you think? Nanami said nothing and followed Shiori downstairs. She was sitting at the table, looking very upset and poorly hiding it. Nanami sat beside her and waited to see if she would say anything.

"I just realized something because I'm an idiot, and I'm very angry at myself right now." She said. "If I had trusted you, even if you took me away for questioning or to Jujutsu High, or something else, that woman might still be alive if I helped sooner." Shiori clenched her fists. "I'm such an egotistical idiot."

Nanami realized she was truly saddened and furious at herself because of that.

"You only knew where to look after we told you about the cursed objects being stolen. There was nothing you could have done." Nanami replied.

Shiori looked at him and sighed. "Thank you."

"I just stated a fact." He said.

She smiled, still somewhat upset. "Yeah. I guess so. I was just scared that-" She choked up a little. "That I wouldn't be here for when my brother came back, whenever that happens."

"How do you know if he is still alive?" Nanami asked bluntly.

"Well, you're kind of abrasive sometimes." She replied, smiling. "I just do. I can't explain it to you factually. It's a twin thing. I know he is alive, I'm completely sure."

He wasn't going to question it. As a jujutsu sorcerer, he sure had seen weirder things.

"I want to help when you guys go save those two women." Shiori said, out of the blue.

"You will hinder us. You have no combat training." Nanami pointed out.

"Well, you will follow us no matter what we say, won't you? Just like you did today." Gojo said, as he came down the stairs.

How did he know that? And was he hearing our conversation all this time? "Yes, I will. Exactly like I did today." She answered frankly. There was no point in lying.

"We're not carrying dead weight, and we won't jeopardize this, because people might actually die. Do you understand?" He asked, staring at her. His tone was serious. She felt like he could see through her soul, and it sent shivers down her spine.

The way this man shifts between 'pretty boy' silly demeanor and this menacing aura is eerie, she thought. "I understand. I don't want to put myself or other people in harm's way anymore, but I still want to help."

"Fine. Then, show me what you've got." He said, hiding his eyes back behind his glasses and grinning widely.

I started to go down that path where I'm hating everything I write, so it took me forever to be done meddling with this chapter before posting it. Ugh I hate when this happens (hope you enjoyed it, still).

"Can you fly me around with your ice?!" a child exclaimed looking up at the bi-colored hero with excitement.

"Uum... ice is technically to hard to fly around with." He explained with crossed arms, "But I can transport you to places...almost like a car I guess?"

"Why the hell are we even here for?!" The blonde yelled looking annoyed with the amount of weird questions that he kept on getting.

"Come on, Kaachan." His friend calmly said, "You said you wanted to tag along too remember?"

"Y-yeah to teach them about being a hero," Kaachan explained. "N-not to deal with weird kids who won't even listen a word I f-"

"Language, Bakugo." Best Jeanist interrupted him. "Remember we are an example for these future heroes."

He looked away, grumbling under his breath.

"Then why is feathers, flirting with the teachers?" He questioned pointing at Hawks, "I thought we were supposed to talk with the kids!"

Best Jeanist followed his pointing finger and saw Hawks talking with you. He sighed, knowing this was going to happen eventually but thought it would take longer than five minutes.

"Make sure to keep an eye on the students." He said talking to Endeavor and walked over to your group.

"I gotta say I'm amazed at how high the kids spirits are." Keigo said looking at you. "Nowadays it is difficult to make sure they don't lose hope just because they're not like everyone else."

You knew he meant those words sincerely, especially since the cases of bullying have risen recently.

"I honestly at times can't protect them from feeling like an outsider in a world where they belong." You explained looking at them as they surrounded the dirty blonde with happiness. "I want to do all I can to make sure their confidence isn't broken when they go to junior high. They deserve to feel like heroes in their own lives whether they have quirks or not."

"Our colleagues and friends have focused on making sure their worth isn't justified by the family their born into or the quirk their relatives might have that they don't." Mio added, "We want them to live like the kids they are."

"Whether they decide to go into a field of public service or pursue a career of what they're passionate about we don't want them to forget their worth." Hizashi spoke up, "They're just as important as heroes."

Keigo saw the look of endearment and passion in your eyes. It was visibly shown to anyone who looked your way, how much you care about them. Now he understands why you stayed up most nights when he visited your family, you were preparing lesson plans even on your days off.

"Hawks!"

He jumped back in surprise seeing Best Jeanist standing in front of him. Keigo composed himself and gave him a dazzling smile making Mio swoon over him.

"Hey buddy! How are the kids treating you?"

"You are supposed to be with them as well, they've been asking about you." He said.

"I just came over here for a minute to talk with some of their teachers." Keigo explained, "Let me introduce you to Mio Takahashi, Rio Hizashi, and last but not least (first name) (last name)."

"It's very nice to meet you." Best Jeanist said shaking each of your hands.

"No, the pleasure is all ours." You said as Mio and Hizashi nodded. "I'm very happy to see everyone took some time to come and visit our students during their sports festival. We really appreciate it, it means a lot to them to see you guys."

"Hawks called us over as soon as he got the call from the principle." He explained, "We did not hesitate to agree, we wanted to come and meet them."

You knew he was such a humble hero but your respect for him went far above and beyond.

"Ah, Mr. Hawks! Mr. Best Jeanist!" The principle yelled out. "Our next event is about to start soon, we would love for you to participate with our students."

"Of course we would be honored to help out the little heroes!" Keigo exclaimed.

"Thank you!" She smiled, "The next event will be a tug of war between all classes. You can go ahead and choose a class as well as your students, we would love it if they joined in too."

"I'll go and let them know." Best Jeanist said.

"Do you mind if I tag along too?"

"Not at all."

It was plainly obvious that the principle had a crush on him, or really admired him.

"Mrs. Kimura is a big, fan huh?" Keigo said.

"That goes without saying." You chuckled lightly.

"Oh, (name) do you have the number tags?" Hizashi asked.

"Right, I forgot to bring them out." You sigh, "I'll go get them."

"Is it alright if I tag along?" Keigo asked looking at you sweetly.

"I can go-" Hizashi was about to say but you shook your head.

"It's alright. It shouldn't take me too long."

"I insist, plus I kinda wanna see the school from the inside too." Keigo insisted.

Looking in between them it was hard to choose, still Keigo decided to come and visit you at your work place.

"Okay," you said earning a smile from him. "You did take some time to come see the students so I'll give you a tour then."

"Awesome!"

You looked at Hizashi, "We'll be back in a bit."

He nodded and you two walked off by yourselves towards your classroom. As soon as you got some more distance and were sure there was no one else you spoke up.

"How come you did not tell me that you were coming?"

Keigo stopped, you mirrored his movement, to look at you.

"I wanted it to be a surprise." He explained, "I've seen the way you work yourself out for them." His hands rested on your shoulders, slowly they went down your arms, giving your body goosebumps, and stopped on both your wrists. "I wanted to meet the students that stole my wife's heart."

"I'm just- I'm still surprised that you're here, Keigo." You softly spoke, "It feels somewhat normal... like you came to visit on a random day..." There was a bit of hesitation on the last words you wanted to say to him.

A smile formed on his face as he used one of his hands to reach up and hold your cheek.

"Like a husband does?" He said, "Visiting his wife at her work place?"

Your lips parted, "Well-"

"I admit it I did not know if it was a good idea to come considering how things have been. But... when I heard it was the name of the same school you were working at I did not want to waste any time and automatically said yes without thinking."

Keigo was... interested in my school, because of me?

"I only heard a few stories about this place." He continued looking around at the colored walls that separates each classroom from the last. His eyes then landed on yours, his smile not faltering. "I wanted to visit the place that holds a special place in your heart... in hopes to learn more about you."

"K-keigo..."

With every person you had ever known, they never managed to make you feel like he does. Given that you have only known him for less than four months, it blows you away. Keigo was different, in your eyes.

"You have no idea how much it means to me that you're here." You confessed, "My parents are far too busy and far away to come see where I work. Himiko... well things are difficult with her at the moment. I wanted to share my everyday life with someone, to tell them about the shenanigans or activities my students did. Now that I got married to you and I have been able to tell you about it all , it's made my life a whole lot better than I ever realized."

Keigo's heart started to pick up a different type of rhythm.

"Keigo I-!" your eyes widened for a moment then they faltered, making his smile disappear.

"Tell me what you're thinking, (name)."

Biting your lip you tried to figure out if what you wanted to say would affect him in some way. Right now you felt blessed to have someone like him in your life. Keigo became another piece to your whole puzzle. A piece you weren't sure yet about how important his part has played a role.

"Whatever it might be," he gently tilted your head back to meet your eyes. "You can tell me."

Your eyes started to get covered with a transparent liquid, making it quite blurry to see.

"I did not realize how much you would change my life..." You blinked the tears letting them roll down your cheek but as always he was there to prevent them from hitting the ground. "I mean I know I-I sometimes over phrase everything and think it but don't say it. Up until now I watched the little things you have done for me even since before we ever got married."

As you spoke, our brain started to replay all those moments.

"You never hesitated to get closer to me even when I was too shy to speak. Anyone else would have given up but you didn't. I don't know if since then I felt safe to be with you but as time passes by and we spend time together... you're someone I do not ever want leaving my side."

"I'm starting to realize the same thing," On instinct he leaned his head down closer trying to close the gap between you both. "Everyday you are making me the happiest person than I ever was. You are molding me into someone better, and I want you to know that you are the reason because of this."

"Keigo..." you breathed out feeling tears slipping faster.

His eyes travelled down from your (color lips) lips to your eyes hoping to get a sign or a one word answer to his silent plea.

Little by little you felt yourselves gravitating to towards one another, closing the gap between you both. Your eyes not breaking away from one another. Slowly, leaning in giving the other enough time to pull away in case there was regret.

What seemed like inches away suddenly became just a centimeter between you both. Without any sign of hesitation, your lips finally met in the middle.

Eyes widening with surprise knowing well this was what you both wanted.

Keigo's eyes closed first as he started to lose himself in your lips. His hands holding both your cheeks, feeling him pulling you closer to him, wanting to get as close as possible.

Your body suddenly started to feel lighter. The weight you once felt on every limb suddenly disappeared. You were too shocked to close your eyes until you felt the way his lips moved in sync with your own.

Slowly they began to close, your hands moving to rest on each side of his waist. You started to sense the way your body was feeling against his.

As cliche as it sounds, it truly did feel like both your hearts were connected in that moment.

In his whole life he had vowed to never get romantically involved. All he wanted and focused on was protecting his mom from his villain father. He needed for her to feel safe in this world, without any fear of a villain attacking her.

But his view then changed once he met you. All of a sudden his world didn't seem so closed off. You became part of his life despite knowing everything about him, even then, you stayed. You opened up to him about things he never thought about.

And just like that, he grew accustomed to your routine of waking up, making breakfast, dinner, or waiting up for one another to make it back home safe and sound. It was a ritual, no, a rhythm he wanted to continue feeling for as long as you'd allow him to.

With flushed faces you both parted your lips, but your hold stayed still on one another.

"T-that... um." Keigo chuckled lightly suddenly feeling shy.

But you were in the same boat, "Y-yeah."

Both of you then erupted into soft laughter, you did not quite understood if it was the rush of how amazing it felt kissing one another or the fact that you were embarrassed to look at each other after such an intimate kiss.

Still, you looked at each other with happy filled dazed faces.

"(n-name)?"

The color drained from each other's faces as you heard a familiar voice calling out to you.

"Did you just-" they shook their head not even wanting to finish the sentence. "You didn't really... kiss Hawks, right?..."

Keigo held your hand tightly, intertwining his fingers with your own in a protective gesture.

"Mio..." Your close friend wasn't alone, "Hizashi..."

"What is going on?..." Hizashi questioned not bothering to look at Keigo.

"Listen... I swear that there's a good reason-"

"What reason is there for him to kiss you like that?!" He yelled.

Keigo stepped forward, "Let's not start yelling okay? We can talk it out like the adults we are-"

"I wasn't talking to you." Hizashi retorted, "For all I know you're just using her."

"Hizashi, Mio..." You sighed looking at them both. "I'm sorry I did not tell you the truth... but the person I married his Hawks."

"What?..."

"B-but you said he was a regular person!" Mio exclaimed.

"I'm sorry for deceiving you... I had to make up a fake husband in order to keep my real marriage a secret." You explained, "I had no other choice... we did not want to risk anything bad happening."

"Like what?" Mio asked not fully understanding anything that's going on. "What bad thing could possibly happen?"

"Listen, there's still some villains who are trying to settle the score with me." Keigo said, "The battle may be over but there's no telling when they might attack. I did not want to put (name) in harm's way."

"The why did you even ask her to marry you if this marriage was going to be a secret?"

"He didn't ask me to marry him." You said, "I was the one who asked him in exchange for a favor he was doing for my parents."

"You-"

"There you guys are!" The principle smiled as she approached you, "Miss (Last Name) did you find those number tags that we need?"

"Y-yeah! I apologize I got side tracked with showing Hawks around the school." You awkwardly chuckled.

"No worries, I understand. But please make sure to hurry the parents have been waiting along with the heroes."

"I will!" You exclaimed trying to smile as she looked at you before walking away. Once she was gone you turned to look at both your friends. "I know there's a lot of questions you both must have and I want to answer them."

"(name)'s right, you both are close to her and deserve to know the truth." Keigo said, "Why don't you two come by our house after the event is over with? We can explain it there more calmly."

Hizashi looked at Mio, and she looked back at him. There was uncertainty in each other's eyes, not knowing if there was any explanation to this situation.

"Okay." Mio said, "We'll come by after school after all this event is for the students and I don't want to ruin it for them."

Hizashi agree. "She's right, it is best if we talk somewhere private."

You nodded feeling a small relief that they'd be willing to hear you out. "Thank you."

"Alright is everyone ready?!" You spoke into the microphone, looking out at the scene in front of you.

"We're not losing!" Bakugo yelled feeling determined to win. "You guys better be pulling your weight too!"

"We are not about to let them win!" Sato exclaimed, "We're going to easily win this round."

"That's what I'm talking about!"

Midoriya started to feel a bit nervous now, "He sure does know how to get them excited it seems."

"Mr. Deku?" Suzuki spoke tugging at his sleeve. "Do you... think we're going to win?..."

Midoriya smiled, "Well they're good opponents I won't lie, but that doesn't mean we're going to lose without a fight right?"

"R-right!"

"On my mark," you said. "Ready?... Pull!"

"Start pulling!" Bakugo yelled.

"We can do this!" Midoriya retorted looking straight ahead as he pulled with all the strength he had.

"You're going down nerd!" He smirked gritting his teeth as he tugged at the long rope.

"I gotta say, they're an interesting group." You chuckled.

"I apologize for his sudden outbursts," Best Jeanist spoke. "He's a very explosive hero."

You shook your head, "Not at all. I understand, it's passion. If I had a quirk as well I'd probably be the same way as him."

"Does the principle not hire anyone who has a quirk?"

"Initially that was her plan but lately since more and more people are being born with quirks they usually take the route of becoming a hero." You explained, "These students might be the last ones to come here."

"What do you mean?"

Turning to look at him you continued, "A lot of more schools are being built and are being equipped with qualified teachers to help control their quirks. This school was built for people like us. We're normal teachers, so it won't be so surprising if they decide to tear this school down in the future."

"But there's still students who need teachers like you to guide them into the right path, whether they have a quirk or not."

A small smile formed on your lips, "I still have the thought o continuing to teach even if this school won't be here anymore. But it's hard to find a way to land a job at times."

"I promise we're going to try and figure something out." He said resting his hand on your shoulder. "This school has a great group of teachers, that need to continuing teaching."

"Thank you, Best Jeanist." You said, "It means a lot to have a heroes support for us regular folks."

"Hey!"

You jumped back in surprise.

Bakugo yelled looking a you, "Aren't you going to announce the winner?!"

"R-right, sorry about that!" You yelled back and picked up the microphone. "The winner is team Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight!"

Best Jeanist even clapped for him, making him smile wider in victory. The students then surrounded him, Sato ended up being carried and placed on his shoulder for the photo.

"Sorry, we couldn't win." Midoriya apologized.

You spoke walking over to them, "Don't. Everyone put in their effort and I can tell they had fun."

"Miss (last name)!" Suzuki yelled, as he rushed over to hug you.

"You guys did a great job." You wrapped your arm him, smiling softly. "I saw how strong you were pulling, Suzuki."

He shyly smiled, "I-I was able to do it... b-because of Mr. Deku's help. H-he helped me, by encouraging me."

"Thank you for lifting up his spirits. Suzuki tends to be a bit shy sometimes." You said looking at him, "I'm happy he got the chance to be on your team."

"Oh it was nothing." Midoriya smiled with a tilted head. "I'm happy they had fun even though we did not get to win."

"You were amazing!" Suzuki yelled pulling away from you and hugging him instead. "You're an amazing hero, Mr. Deku."

Midoriya's eyes lit up, his hold then tightened as he held Suzuki in his arms.

You decided to walk over to the rest of your students to congratulate them as well.

"Miss (last name)! Did you see me?!" Sato exclaimed. "Did you see how much I was pulling the rope?!"

"I did!" Crouching down in front of her you continued, "You guys did a great job pulling on that rope."

"It was all because I told them how to properly pull." Bakugo spoke with crossed arms in front of his chest.

"He did! Did you know it's best to lean back and plant your feet on the ground?!" She yelled with amazement. "It worked so cool!"

"I did not know that." You looked up at him, "You're quite an impressive hero Mr. Great Murder Explosion God Dynamight."

Bakugo's cheeks turned a light red, "O-of course I am!"

As the events progressed from last rounds of tug of war to the bigger obstacle course between heroes, your mind got distracted.

There was an anxious feeling in your chest, as the sports festival was starting to come to a close. You kept thinking about how your two close friend's would react to knowing the truth about it all.

All you could do was pray and hope that they would stay by your side to support you.

"Everything okay?" Keigo asked as he helped fold up the tables.

"Y-yeah..."

He placed the last table down next to the wall, "(name), I can tell something is on your mind."

"I'm just a bit worried about talking with them is all."

"Hey, everything is going to be fine." Keigo softly, reaching over to your hand to hold it for a second before pulling away. "They're your close friends, they care about you. So I'm sure they'll understand."

You nodded, "You're right... Hizashi and Mio will understand."

Keigo gave you a soft smile and looked both ways before he leaned down and pecked your lips.

"Keigo... s-someome could see us."

"Why do you think I did it quickly?" He teased, making you chuckle.

"Mr. Hawks!" You both looked to the side to see some of your students rushing over to him.

"Hey! What are you kiddos still doing here?"

"You're going to come back and visit right?!" Your youngest Sakura asked.

"Yeah you have to!" Hinata yelled, "You need to come back and see us!"

"Well I certainly hope so." Keigo answered ruffling his hair, "I would love to come back and visit you guys."

"Next time you'll take us somewhere to fly right?" Seiyo asked.

"Guys," you interrupted. "He may have a lot of feathers but he doesn't have enough to take you. He's a hero after all, he's going to them too."

"Awe!" Hinata whined, "Then can you make sure to tell him to come again next week, Miss (last name)?!"

"Yeah, will you ever invite me again Miss (last name)?" Keigo tagged along and even made puppy dog eyes.

He did look quite adorable.

"If it was for me I'd be happy to bring him back again to visit but it isn't up to me." You said, hearing their disappointment sighs. "But I will try and ask the principle."

"Yay!" Your students yelled.

"Now it's time to go home, okay?" You said seeing their parents waiting by the gate. "Your parents are waiting for you guys."

They nodded and bid Keigo goodbye, a smile rested on his face as he watched your students running, enjoying themselves without worry.

"They're an interesting group of kids," he said and turned to look at you. "They're going to go far someday."

"I hope I can continue to lead them down the right path."

"You will, they are lucky to have a teacher like you. I wished I had one exactly like you when I was a kid."

"Well if you ever need a teacher, I'm here." you chuckled lightly.

Keigo pulled you into a tight hug, not caring about anyone seeing you two. All he wanted was to hold you close and you weren't going to deny that a hug from him is what you needed the most.

💫 ANIPLEX ONLINE FEST 2024: ANNUNCI, TRAILER E ALTRE INFO SVELATE DURANTE L'EVENTO!

Tante notizie belle, trailer da hype train e uno scherzo a cui non ha riso nessuno. Edizione completa, a tutto tondo.

Niente panico! Ce l'abbiamo fatta! Ripeto: ce l'abbiamo fatta! Mettetevi seduti e non mi dite che volete andare a letto presto, non si può. Ci sono le millemila novità dell'Aniplex Online Fest 2024 qua, oh! La mega diretta streaming di 4 ore annuale che c'è stata lunedì dai!

Ma Silenzio-kun, se questa roba è uscita lunedì come mai ce la riporti mercoledì sera e pure tardi? Perché se non forzavo le tappe forse arrivava pure giovedì o venerdì. Non scherzo KEKWait.

Purtroppo possiedo un'aura potentissima, ma sfigatissima, che attira inesorabilmente il massimo sforzo. Sempre, in ogni occasione e per qualsiasi cosa. Va da sé che, se mi capita di avere vari impegni e lavori da fare irl, il tutto accade in quella esatta settimana in cui ci sono annunci che vengono fuori dalle fottute pareti: di fine stagione, di inizio stagione, dei simulcast, da questo e da quell'evento. Un massacro insomma.

Partono quindi le maledizioni, Yog-Sothoth si sveglia e mi grida che devo smettere di fare casino, la Luna di Sangue si leva su Yharnam, l'armata delle tenebre si raduna sotto casa... poi mi dico che nessuno fa dei report belli come i miei, guardo i trailer, mi calmo e tutto torna a posto. Gli anime hanno salvato il mondo ancora una volta.

🔶🔸VIRGIN PUNK

Apertura a bomba con il reveal che mi ha spiazzato di più, sia per la qualità mostrata nel teaser trailer (anche se non so quanto possa essere rappresentativa del prodotto finale, visto che le produzioni di solito molto raramente sono così consistenti), sia per la collaborazione in sé.

Lo studio Shaft (Madoka Magica, Monogatari Series, Un marzo da leoni) sta infatti lavorando con lui, the man, the myth, Yasuomi Umetsu (Kite, Mezzo, Wizard Barristers, Galilei Donna) in persona!

Non si è ben capito se si tratti di una serie tv, di OAV o di film. È stato solo anticipato che la "prima storia", intitolata Clockwork Girl, verrà proiettata ad inizio estate 2025 in due cinema, a Tokyo e a Osaka.

L'unica cosa che posso aggiungere, oltre alla mia trepidazione e curiosità nel vedere cosa hanno combinato, è che la sceneggiatura di questo bombastico action scifi è stata affidata a Yuya Takahashi (Kubo Won't Let Me Be Invisible, Lupin III: L'avventura italiana).

🔶🔸MAY I ASK FOR ONE FINAL THING?

L'action romcom di Nana Otori sta per diventare una serie animata, che vedremo approdare in streaming su Crunchyroll nel corso del 2025.

Il progetto ha come regista Kazuya Sakamoto (Kaginado) e sta venendo realizzato presso gli studi di LIDENFILMS (Insomniacs After School)e LIDENFILMS Kyoto Studio (She and Her Cat: Everything Flows).

Lo school romance manga di Saka Mikami ispirerà una serie animata, in programma per il 2025.

Dal teaser si vede già che sarà un altro absolute banger made in CloverWorks (The Elusive Samurai, Bocchi the Rock!).

Una nuova commedia slice of life si staglia all'orizzonte per riscaldare il mio cuore nero e inaridito da softy edgelord ed è tratta da un manga di Afro (Laid-Back Camp). My body is ready.

Anche questa serie è in programma per il 2025 e segna sia il debutto alla regia di Ryota Aikei, che il primo lavoro targato studio Soigne.

Come vedete stampato sull'immagine promozionale, la voce di Satsuki Amamiya sarà quella di Haruna Mikawa (Jin-Ah Sung in Solo Leveling).

🔶🔸INTRODUCTION TO MINERALOGY 

Di questa ve ne ho parlato giusto pochi giorni fa e, oltre a un teaserino, è stato svelato chi si sta occupando dell'adattamento.

L’educational adventure slice of life di Keiichiro Shibuya verrà trasformato in una serie televisiva Shingo Fujii (ONIMAI: I'm Now Your Sister!), che sta dirigendo il tutto presso Studio Bind (Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation).

Come vi dicevo, al momento il debutto è atteso per un generico 2025.

🔶🔸FATE/STRANGE FAKE

Non un grande aggiornamento per l'attesa serie animata tratta dalla novel firmata dal mitico Ryohgo Narita (Durarara!!, Baccano!, Dead Mount Death Play). 

Pur essendo passato un anno dall'annuncio, in occasione ell'Anime Expo, e dalla trasmissione dello special Whispers of Dawn, per il momento è stato confermato che il debutto mondiale in anteprima avverrà questo novembre, molto tematicamente, in quel di Los Angeles.

Come lo speciale televisivo del 2023, potremo vedere prossimamente (ma non si sa quando di preciso) la serie in streaming grazie a Crunchyroll.

Il timone presso A-1 Pictures (Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!, NieR:Automata Ver1.1a) rimane saldamente nelle mani di Shun Enokido e Takahito Sakazume, che hanno entrambi già lavorato a  Whispers of Dawn e agli incredibili spot per Fate/Grand Order.

🔶🔸SWORD ART ONLINE ALTERNATIVE: GUN GALE ONLINE (Stagione 2)

Torna a mostrarsi con un nuovo trailer anche lo spinoff di SAO che è meglio di SAO! Siete pronti? La seconda stagione della serie sbarcherà in streaming su Crunchyroll dal 4 ottobre.

Lo staff è lo stesso della prima stagione, che nel frattempo potete recuperare su Prime Video e Netflix, oltre che in Blu-ray.

La regia insomma è ancora nelle mani di Masayuki Sakoi (Cautious Hero,A3! Season Autumn & Winter) e la produzione è tornata in casa A-1 Pictures (Lycoris Recoil, Mashle: Magic and Muscles).

🔶🔸PUELLA MAGI MADOKA MAGICA THE MOVIE: WALPURGISNACHT RISING

Spero abbiate fame perché, nonostante il lungo posticipo, Shaft (Pretty Boy Detective Club, Monogatari Series, Un marzo da leoni) sta chiaramente cucinando forte.

Se ricordate bene, l'inatteso ma più che benaccetto quarto film della saga, era stato programmato per l'inverno 2024 per poi sparire completamente dai radar. Il debutto in sala, ora, è stato fissato per questo inverno.

Il nuovo capitolo nell'onirico mondo di sentimenti e dolore delle maghette di Yukihiro Miyamoto (Magia Record, Arakawa Under the Bridge) vedrà, dunque, la luce ad inizio 2025. Non vedo l'ora che arrivi anche qua in Italia!

🔶🔸 SOLO LEVELING (Stagione 2)

Poche nuove, ma buone nuove. Dall'evento è emersa solamente questa nuova locandina, che ci annuncia che la seconda stagione del popolare action fantasy tratto dall'omonimo fumetto coreano, piazzato sui nostri scaffali da Star Comics, arriverà su Crunchyroll da gennaio 2025.

L'unica cosa in più è che il 29 novembre, i fan giapponesi potranno vedere in anteprima i primi due nuovi episodi della serie, perché verranno proiettati nei cinema assieme al film riassuntivo della prima stagione.

🔶🔸AMEKU M.D. - DOCTOR DETECTIVE

Un detective in corsia, ma anime! Nice. Ok, è una citazione da vecchi, ma ehi, continuano a fare le repliche in tv.

La serie ispirata alla medical mystery novel di Mikito Chinen inizierà a gennaio 2025 e indovinate un po' chi la pubblicherà in streaming?Ma elementare Watson: Crunchyroll!

Il breve promo ci dice che la regia è di Kazuya Iwata (7th Time Loop, Love After World Domination) e lo staff al lavoro è quello di Project No.9 (I Tormenti della Vampira Reclusa, Senpai is an Otokonoko).

🔶🔸MIKADONO SAN SHIMAI WA ANGAI, CHOROI

L'harem romcom di Aya Hirakawa, con al centro le tre feisty sorelle Mikadono, comincerà ad andare in onda nel corso del 2025.

A dirigere la serie c'è Tadahito Matsubayashi (Magical Girl Site) e il tutto sta venendo confezionato presso P.A. Works (Skip and Loafer, Mayonaka Punch). Non so com'è la storia, ma quello che vedo nella locandina mi piace ( ͡ꈍ ͜ʖ̫ ͡ꈍ )

🔶🔸TO BE HERO X

Nuovo fighissimo teaser trailer per Rule of cool The Anime a.k.a. la terza webserie del peculiare franchise supereroistico cinese, in arrivo su Crunchyroll nel 2025, dove già trovate To Be Hero e To Be Heroine.

Come vi avevo già detto in altri post, la regia è affidata a Haoling Li (Heaven Officials Blessing, Link Click) e il progetto è in cantiere presso tre studi.

La colonna sonora, dallo stile inconfondibile, è firmata Hiroyuki Sawano (Kill la Kill, Attack on Titan) e nel cast si riconoscono tanti big fra i doppiatori nipponici. Stavolta hanno deciso di fare le cose in grande! 

🔶🔸BLUE EXORCIST (Stagione 4)

Il nuovo trailer ci ricorda che l'arco narrativo Beyond the Snow sbarcherà finalmente su Crunchyroll dal 5 ottobre!

Da gennaio, invece, si entrerà nel vivo della The Blue Night Saga dell’action soprannaturale tratto dall'omonimo manga creato da Kazue Kato, che possiamo leggere qua in Italia grazie da Panini Comics.

🔶🔸DARK MOON: THE BLOOD ALTAR

Il webtoon illustrato da HYBE, che fa diciamo da lore espansa per il background della boy band sudcoreana ENHYPEN, diventerà presto un anime che potremo seguire in streaming su Crunchyroll.

Non ne so molto, ma il mix di urban fantasy e teen romance, con al centro scuola, vampiri, licantropi e una ragazza, mi ricorda un po' tanto Twilight. Il nome dell'istituto, Riverfield, invece mi ha fatto subito suonare il campanello di Riverdale, anche se non ci azzecca granché xD

🔶🔸DEMON LORD 2099

Ragazzi, quando ho letto che l'incipit della storia era "Il Signore dei Demoni si risveglia a Night City" non mi aspettavo che diventasse, ehm... uno streamer! Subverting expectations: lo hai fatto bene 😂

La serie è fatta in casa J.C.Staff (Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy-, DanMachi) e ha come regista Ryo Ando (Interviews with Monster Girls).

È tratta dall'omonima light novel fantasy sci-fi di Daigo Murasaki e anche questa farà parte del palinsesto autunnale di Crunchyroll, con il primo episodio in programma per il 12 ottobre.

🔶🔸I'M GETTING MARRIED TO A GIRL I HATE IN MY CLASS

Di tutti gli stereotipi del genere, quello del "mi devo sposare con tizio/tizia a caso, perché sì" credo sia fra quelli invecchiati più velocemente e male. Ma ehi, una romcom è una romcom e questa va ad infoltire la lista di quelle che potremo vedere da gennaio 2025.

È basata sulla light novel nata dalla penna di Seiju Amano e segna il debutto alla regia di Hiroyuki Oshima; la produzione porta il doppio marchio di Studio Gokumi e AXsiZ (Reborn as a Vending Machine I Now Wander the Dungeon, World's End Harem).

Altro trailer per generare un po' di hype, in vista del ritorno del samurai vagabondo di Nobuhiro Watsuki, che ritroveremo su Crunchyroll dal 3 ottobre. 

Come vi ho già anticipato in un'altra occasione, sono stati confermati altri 24 episodi per la serie remake targata LIDENFILMS (Tokyo Revengers, Insomniacs After School).

Cambia però la regia, che vede Hideo Yamamoto (Cells at Work BLACK, La mia maestra non mostra la coda) essere sostituito da Yuki Komada (Build Divide) pe questo nuovo giro di carrozza.

Video e qualche aggiornamento sulla seconda stagione sulla serie idol al maschile di CloverWorks (Bocchi the Rock!, My Dress-Up Darling), parte del grande progetto crossmediale lanciato qualche tempo fa da Sony Music. 

Gli episodi saranno diretti ancora una volta da Shinichiro Ushijima (Voglio mangiare il tuo pancreas) e inizieranno ad arrivare su Crunchyroll a partire da gennaio 2025.

E per finire... Oh boy, non ce la faccio...

L'audacia! L'assoluto sprezzo di Aniplex nel ricordarmi, a distanza di 10 anni, quella grandissima cagata delusione di Aldnoah.Zero! Quella chiacchieratissima serie mecha con alle spalle un all star team, che prometteva epicità e drama, ma poi ha portato solo una sequenza di decisioni infelici, con dei twist che hanno costretto al seppuku diversi dei miei neuroni (rest in pepperoni) e un gran finale da dumpster fire di proporzioni leggendarie, degno delle peggiori soapopera.

Come mai rivango tutto questo? Perché il 26 marzo 2025, in Giappone uscirà un nuovo cofanetto Blu-ray della serie, che includerà anche un inedito episodio post epilogo, numerato 24.5 e intitolato Fragment of Rain -The Penultimate Truth-.

Fermiamoci un momento ad interiorizzare una cosa: hanno annunciato questo e non una seconda stagione di 86 - Eighty Six. Let that sink in.
