Wedding Disrupted, Worship Banned at Indonesian Church Site
Local officials in Indonesia halted a wedding and banned further worship meetings at a church site in Mergosari, Tarik District, Sidoarjo Regency of Java Island on Sunday, June 30.
Village head Eko Budi Santoso stopped the ceremony at the Pentecostal Church in Indonesia (Gereja Pentekosta di Indonesia, or GPdI), citing the lack of a building permit and local opposition, according to media reports.
Tumblr media
Residents of the Muslim-majority area claimed they were not opposed to the church's presence at the "House of Prayer," a structure without the function and markings of a church building. Eko and five state officials confronted Pastor Yoab Setiawan and banned further meetings, claiming they were responding to public complaints.
A video by the Hagios Legal Aid Institute shows Pastor Setiawan suggesting officials should address local prostitution first, while his wife, Lidya Laviyanti, pleaded for understanding, highlighting the small, minority congregation.
Eko insisted that all activities require neighborhood permission and abruptly ended the discussion. The House of Prayer is registered through a local government certificate signed by the Christian Community Guidance Regional Office leader, Luki Krispriyanto, on Dec. 7, 2023, according to International Christian Concern. Eko admitted he was unaware of this certificate.
In a meeting on July 1 at the village head office, acting regent of Sidoarjo, Subandi, supported the ban but allowed worship at home, emphasizing the need for a building permit, which they promised to expedite within a month.
Residents like Mulyati, 53, and Agus Febro, 25, stated they were not disturbed by the church's activities. Bonar Tigor Naipospos, deputy chairman of the Setara Institute for Democracy and Peace, criticized the officials' actions as yielding to intolerant groups for political gain.
Indonesia ranked 42nd on Christian support organization Open Doors’ 2024 World Watch List, highlighting the risks faced by churches involved in evangelistic outreach.

Oct 6. Blog Post 3
It is hard for me to believe that any government would try and ban something like a burkini, none the less from a major country like France. I personally think this is absolutely stupid and insulting to Muslim women. The disrespect for the religion and anyone who would need or want to wear one is horrendous. Even as someone who has no connection to this, I know this is wrong in so many ways and I am so surprised this is happening. This makes me lose more faith in humanity.
Looking into data and articles, it gets really interesting and messed up. From the research I gained, it seems that the country is very split between those in favor for the ban and those against it. Lots of areas it is not banned and other areas it is banned. The government is also torn between for and against. Another interesting point to state is that those for it and against it are mixed with those who are politically right and left. I also found in my research that swimwear in general has very tight regulations all around. For instance, baggy swim trunks are banned, and wet suits are too. Those in favor of keeping the burkini tend to want to loosen the regulations of swim wear all together. An outrageous statement from those in favor of getting rid of the burkini, say that the burkini represent an oppression of women and is a potential gateway to Islamic radicalism. The reason for banning the burkini seems to be just plain racism, sexist, and anti-Islamic reasons.

A brother in Christ wanted me to share this. Please pray for Christians who are getting persecuted in India. Thank you. God bless.
This video is in hindi. it’s an appeal to Indian PM Modi and his administration to plz not steal the right to preach one’s faith publicly. a person should have the right to choose his faith, change his faith and to preach what he believes in. Hindus do it mostly all the time either marching on the streets with loud music, going house to house to collect funds from all for festivals like Ganesh chaturthi door to door. Instead of stopping the persecution of Christians by extremists, it’s being told that the PM of India wants to now stop the right of preaching for people to turn to Christ. plz share this video requesting the PM to not stop the freedom of preaching. Pray for India’s government and it’s people.

New Report Exposes Hindu American Foundation’s Ties to the Far-Right
Tumblr media
A groundbreaking new report, jointly published on Wednesday by Political Research Associates (PRA) and the Savera: United Against Supremacy coalition, sheds light on the far-right associations and agenda of the Hindu American Foundation (HAF). Through its alignment with far-right actors and supremacist movements in the US, HAF plays a key role in spreading Islamophobia, casteism, and other forms of bigotry within Indian American communities with the aim of undermining solidarity between communities of color and pulling Hindu Americans toward an increasingly multiracial far-right. Burnham Kilgore on 19th Century Sunday Closing Laws
As an illustration of the despotism of the majority in matters of individual right, witness the closing of the Exposition on Sunday. The right of conscience is, in general, acknowledged; but, says the Christian community, “the majority of this nation are Christians, and the majority rule demands the recognition of the Christian idea of Sunday in our laws and institutions; hence you must submit.” Thus, by this majority rule, the right of conscience of the minority is entirely ignored. That this nation is a Christian nation, is almost the only argument used by those who are zealously striving to place the Christian's God in the United States Constitution. This is but another application of the majority rule which ignores the rights of the minority.

4.24.1816: “But when we come to the moral principles on which the government is to be administered, we come to what is proper for all conditions of society. I meet you there in all the benevolence and rectitude of your native character; and I love myself always most where I concur most with you. Liberty, truth, probity, honor, are declared to be the four cardinal principles of your society. I believe with you that morality, compassion, generosity, are innate elements of the human constitution; that there exists a right independent of force; that a right to property is founded in our natural wants, in the means with which we are endowed to satisfy these wants, and the right to what we acquire by those means without violating the similar rights of other sensible beings; that no one has a right to obstruct another, exercising his faculties innocently for the relief of sensibilities made a part of his nature; that justice is the fundamental law of society; that the majority, oppressing an individual, is guilty of a crime, abuses its strength, and by acting on the law of the strongest breaks up the foundations of society; that action by the citizens in person, in affairs within their reach and competence, and in all others by representatives, chosen immediately, and removable by themselves, constitutes the essence of a republic; that all governments are more or less republican in proportion as this principle enters more or less into their composition; and that a government by representation is capable of extension over a greater surface of country than one of any other form. These, my friend, are the essentials in which you and I agree; however, in our zeal for their maintenance, we may be perplexed and divaricate, as to the structure of society most likely to secure them.” —to Pierre S. I understand that people have different beliefs and different viewpoints on our current political issues, however I must stress the following: Our government was founded on the basis of there being a separation between Church and State. Trust me, I have a lot to say on this presidency, but regardless of your religious or political views, in the eyes of our government EVERY human should deserve the same rights and opportunities regardless of sexuality, gender, religion, or ethnicity. Whether you believe being gay is okay or not, it should not interfere with governmental rights of employee benefits, adoption, marriage, and basic protections and freedoms. We have come so far recently in the fight for equal rights between all humans, and it saddens me immensely that our government is trying to push us ten steps back.
On the issue of adoption, one of my wonderful brothers was adopted. Adopting a child is a tremendously long, strenuous, intensive, and thorough process. The family goes through multiple checks to make absolutely certain that they are fit to care for the child. My wonderful mother and father went through this process and it was all worth it because we gained my amazing brother from it and my brother gained a loving family--without whom he would have ended up in the foster system or aborted. The absolute most important aspect of adoption is making sure that the child is well cared for and loved. There are over 428,000 children in the US Foster System and denying a single one of them the opportunity of finding a loving and fit home because of your religious beliefs is absolutely despicable.
I want all of my LGBT+, Muslim, Latinx, African American, etc brothers and sisters to know that I support them and that I stand for them and all others who are marginalized. We will not stand for discrimination and hate any longer. We will not get tired, we will continue protesting and calling our representatives and welcoming “your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free" (there is no hidden clause on the Statue of Liberty). We absolutely will not stand idly by and allow our fellow brothers and sisters to live in fear.
Hate has no place in our country or our government.
