The Hero’s Fall:
TW: descriptions of injury and allusions of death
They were running, running for their lives, running for the lives of their people and running for the sake of their kingdom.
Fire raged around them, clawing at the trees and screaming at them, threatening to engulf them in their hatred, yet even as the smoke built up inside their lungs and choked them from the inside, they continued to run.
Despite hell consuming their land and explosions rousing the flames around them, it was raining.
Once upon a time, it seemed like such a beautiful thing. The memory of gliding through a gentle sheet of rain while her grace filled his vision, the ghost of her touch lingering in his hands, as if she were there, guiding him through the blinding darkness of the wet night, even as the heavens wept and the moon bled. Even as the night tinted with the malicious red of hatred and demise. Yet he knew she was elsewhere, caught up in her own battle.
And so he took the hand of her highness, his princess, the one he was sworn to as her protector and knight, and pressed on. Even when she panted and gasped for air that had long since fled in the wake of smoke, even when he heard her dress ripping and the mud under their boots splatter on her pristine skin, he pressed on.
They reached the end of the forest, the ashes of what once was littering the ground they trampled through, ruins of their fallen kingdom and the empty vessels of the dead scattered across the plain.
Then they heard it. Knight and princess halted their escape with the realisation that they could not flee the chant of death. As machines rose from waste and decay, their eyes illuminated, producing a laser that set its targets on her highness. Her knight spared no second, leaping at the metal beast with what was left of his strength, destroying it beyond repair in one slash of his goddess blessed blade.
He held his own as more and more metallic beasts surrounded them. Taking out his shield, he deflected blow after blow, watching his step, careful not to tread on his princess’s feet as she stood behind him, for even in the midst of battle, even as execution loomed over him, he minded his etiquette around her royal highness.
His muscles burned with fatigue and his arm twisted on impact as his shield gave in to the continued assault. Still, he persisted.
Gripping his sacred blade, he pressed off of one of his attackers and launched into the air, bringing his blade down on the creature and all others in the vicinity.
He fought and fought until his legs gave way and his lungs caved.
Yet he could not abandon his divine duty to serve his goddess, he could not forsake his princess to the hand of misery incarnate.
So he rose once more.
His fingers trembled at the loss of strength, trying desperately to hold onto the hilt of his sword as he claimed his place in front of his princess once more.
He was useless, if only to use his body to ensure her safety.
He took blast after blast, the overwhelming force of explosions and the heat of fire that licked his skin tortured his nerves and shattered his bones. One blasted the side of his face, leaving ringing in his ear and darkness in his vision. One took its hit to his abdomen, destroying his organs and spraying his blood. Another to his legs, another to his torso, another to his back, another, another, another, until one set its laser on his chest and fired.
He felt he would not be able to ever forget the pained scream of his name leaving her lips if there was a chance he were to survive after this. So he took comfort in knowing he wouldn’t. He felt a calm wash over him as peace was promised to him, as cold, dainty hands grasped at his body and pulled him close, desperate to piece him back together in the hopes that he will live in spite of his injuries, in spite of his missing organs and the gaping hole where his eye used to be, in spite of the grainy texture of his shattered spine against hands drenched in blood that had not come from its owner. In spite of it all, just so he could live to see another day, just so he could return home to his betrothed and his family and his simple life before destiny wrapped its unforgiving fingers around their souls and mercy distanced itself just as the goddess did.
But it was no use.
The princess wept. Sobs racking her body as she clutched her broken knight to her chest, listening to the pathetic attempts he made at drawing even the shallowest of breaths.
She looked down to him, his face drowned in his own blood and his hair soaked by the rain that had yet to let up.
And then he looked towards her, his eyes meeting hers, and for the first time, he smiled.

Zelink Week - Day 6: In Another Life
For @zelinkcommunity’s Zelink Week
Just Rewards
Summary: In another lifetime, they beat Calamity Ganon. In another lifetime, they won. In another lifetime, they lived Happily Ever After.
Rating: T
Relationships: Zelink (Breath of the Wild), Onesided MiphLink
Ao3 Tags: AU where they beat Calamity Ganon, Not Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Compliant, Marriage Proposal, Minor court politics, Talking Link (Legend of Zelda), Link has a family, This AU casually ignores TotK's implications, no spoilers for totk
Extract:
He remembers Zelda's scream as the blow had sent him flying, cracking his head on a piece of rubble, and the flash of golden light that had lit up his disorientation. When he'd been able to see straight again, she'd been standing over him, glowing with holy light, her arms extended out toward the beast. He'd been knocked silly—he'd simply stared up at her, confused as to why the Goddess had suddenly deigned to descend from the heavens and save him before her voice had snapped him out of his daze and dragged him to his feet. He hadn't wanted to take her to the castle when Ganon rose. It had been dangerous. She'd had no power. The closer they'd gotten, the more misgivings he'd had. The divine beasts had turned as red as the corrupted guardians, and he'd known that their plan had been anticipated and thwarted. Castle Town had been all but obliterated, the castle itself enveloped in a ghastly purple haze. But Zelda had refused to leave him, insisting that she'd find some way to help.

Preliminary Interest Check!
I know I hardly use this account and am not super well known, but hopefully tagging will help with that, anyway...
I'm wanting to see if the fandom would have any interest in doing a BOTW/TOTK focused zine! I mean, I'm sure people already are, honestly, but I'd love to compile one myself ^^
The idea would be to get a decent variety of both ships and gen fic/art, so essentially making it ship-agnostic. Anything from Miphlink or Sidlink to Zelink to Zelda/Rauru/Sonia to Tauro/Calip to crack ships like Master Sword/Great Deku Tree or Link/Backpack Koroks would be allowed.
For personal comfort reasons, we would only ask for no noncon/dubcon/underage/sibcest pairings. Korok stuff is allowed because "children of the forest" can be interpreted any number of ways, including the same way "children of god" is used to refer to xtians IRL. Characters must be both adults or both minors at time of ship - so Zeldaxtotk!Purah would be fine but Zeldaxbotw!Purah would not.
(We're not against doing an optional nsfw supplement too, but the idea would be to keep the ratings essentially at T or under just so that it can be open to a wide audience. Let us know what you think about an "Hyrule after dark" type supplement)
And although production would be more expensive and therefore it would cost more, our personal ideal would be to make it a nice hefty chonker of a zine. That may be unrealistic but as this is just preliminary, we can work it out as we go along.
We'll make a proper google form to check interest, but for now, feel free to reply to this post or send an ask if y'all are interested in either contributing or eventually buying!

idk if ur doing any more of the hcs but fi ghirhim swap, u can inclued zelda being the hylain champion and link having the sealing powers if u want or ur take on a fix-it all au? what would u change and what would u keep?
I am still doing more! And I’d be happy to share some more heacanons on topics! Unfortunately, while I know SS lore...it’s all seconhand information and stuff I've read on the wiki. I haven’t actually played SS and haven’t picked up the HD version yet. Maybe this is something I can revisit, but I don’t know enough about Ghirahim or Fi, both attitude and actions without either watching a full playthrough or doing it myself, to give my own headcanons on a Fi and Ghirahim swap.
A fix-it AU I can totally do though. I am going to assume you mean BoTW and AoC. I find AoC’s story to be quite good, and while time travel can sometimes be an easy crutch, I think it works in AoC’s case, so I am going to leave AoC alone. Nothing there other than a few minor things I would change. BoTW though? Totally have ideas. I have a few, some revolving around pre-calamity, some around post. I am going to go with pre-calamity for this answer!
BoTW Fix It All AU. (Not going to be fix it all as yeah….some bad stuff still happens)
Mipha is allowed to finish what she said. That she thinks about Link. There are two ways she could have finished her sentence. “About those I love.” or “About Link.”. I feel it was the latter, as she was quite embarrassed to say it. This causes Zelda to come to terms with her growing attraction to Link and having to face the music. She loves Link. (platonically or romantically, whatever boats your float). It’s an epiphany, a sudden realization that shakes her all the way to her soul. This unlocks her powers.
With her powers unlocked, The Calamity is hastened. It can’t wait around anymore, it can’t wait for the Champions to enter their Divine Beasts. It has sensed Hylia’s powers manifesting and must act NOW. It seizes the Divine beasts immediately and begins to use them to wreak havoc. Though messy and sluggish, it tries to use the Blights to control the Beasts to everyone’s location.
The Champions all feel their Divine Beasts being seized. There is no subtlety on Ganon’s part. To them, it feels like a part of their soul has been ripped from them. It leaves them weakened and in pain. But they know what just happened. So the party is left with a choice, take back the Divine Beasts, or use their combined prowess to try to defeat Ganon. After much deliberation, the latter is chosen. They just don’t know what they are up against, what awaits them inside. Between that and their knowledge on the capabilities of their Beasts....without help, they know can’t do it on their own.
It’s not an easy fight to Ganon. Guardians assail them at every turn. But they push on, through injury and fatigue. For they are racing against time. Sure, Hyrule is burning down all around them, but if the Divine Beasts make it to them? All hope would be lost.
They barely make it in time. The fight is hard. Ganon re-summons his Blights, much in the same way the fight happens without freeing the Beasts. Each Champion takes on a different blight than the one sent to kill them. Revali fights Waterblight. Daruk fights Thunderblight. Mipha fights Fireblight. Urbosa takes on Windblight. All this while Link is trying his best to defeat Ganon. After the blights are defeated and Ganon is slain, Dark Beast Ganon is formed. And with their combined might supporting Link and Zelda, Ganon is sealed away.
Castle Town is destroyed. Barely anyone is able to escape. Rhoam is slain, alongside 80% of the population. The Hylian Army put up a valiant fight, but in the end, did everything they could just to buy time for folks to escape. Other regions suffered as well with the control of the Divine Beasts and Guardians.
Parts of the Domain are destroyed from Ruta’s rampage to Central Hyrule. Same with Goron City. In Rito Village, many homes are blown away, but the primary structure of rock where the village perched remains intact. Gerudo town suffers the least damage but is cut off from the rest of Hyrule for months, as the Gerudo Canyon suffers a major rockslide from Nabooris rampage.
The recovery effort is long and arduous, but they all manage to do so, with each race lending a hand where they can.
Yes, it ends in eventual Miphlink, cause god damn it, I am forever stuck Miphlink Hell.
#thanks for the asks#sorry I wasn't able to answer the first one#but I hope you like my answer to the second!

When I say “shove their pairing down people’s throats” I’m not talking about popularity. I’m talking about shippers sending people’s death threats because they don’t ship their OTP. I’m talking about shippers who tell rival shippers that they’re “disrespecting” canon by not shipping their OTP. I’m talking about shippers who comment on fanworks featuring a non-Zelink Link ship and telling them their ship is wrong because “Link loves Zelda/Zelda love Link”.
That’s what I mean by “shoving their pairing down people’s throats”.
But to say that “Zelink shippers are notorious” for all of those things is counterproductive and completely missing my point. Taking quotes and canon facts out of context? Every ship in the entire world has supporters who do this, and they are usually in the vocal minority. It’s not exclusive to the Zelda fandom.
I don’t think I was missing your point. I said I agree with you that the hate between both Miphlink and Zelink shippers is unnecessary and ridiculous. I just disagree with you simply boiling down this antagonism down to Zelda hate which, IMO, implicitly places blame solely on Miphlink shippers, implies that all Miphlink shippers hate/dislike Zelda, Zelink shippers are innocent shippers who haven’t done anything to fuel this antagonism, and ignores that Mipha gets her fair share of unreasonable hate. However, looking at the wording of my post, I could see where you thought I was deliberately missing your point and generalizing Zelink shippers, which is not fair as I have my fair share of popular ships that have wanky shippers and I don’t like being lumped in with the jerks acting up. So, I profusely apologize if I seem hostile and/or generalize Zelink shippers. That wasn’t my intention.
Anyway, all in all I agree with you. Both sides need to stop downplaying Link’s individual relationships with both girls and the bashing. Link clearly cares about Zelda and Mipha, both Mipha and Zelda are friends, and neither of them deserve to be bashed. There’s no need for either side to feel threatened. As far as I’m concerned I feel like Nintendo gave enough hints to certify that both Zelda and Mipha are Link’s canon love interests.
I will never understand why Zelink shippers and Miphlink shippers are always at each other’s throats. At all. Cuz here’s the thing... you can have both.
Maybe Link did love Mipha before the Calamity and later fell in love with Zelda during/after BotW
Maybe Link loved Mipha before the Calamity while also realizing he was falling for Zelda, or had feelings for Zelda he couldn’t quite place at the time.
There’s so many different ways you can look at this and interpret it. There is no reason to say one is objectively better than the other. It’s just shipping! You don’t need an objective opinion on fucking shipping, it’s all about self-indulgence!
The only reason for any shipper aggression I can think of is honestly just a hatred for Zelda. “Mipha’s better cuz she’s nice, and mean nasty Zelda yelled at Link” — fuck no. You stop that, it’s not true and you know it. You can have your fish waifu, but don’t throw Zelda under the bus to justify it.
So quit leaving “well my ship is better” comments underneath fanart. Learn to coexist.
Zelink. Miphlink. Canonically you can have both.

Zora Bride for the headcanons, please!
Thanks for the ask! I’d be happy to share headcanons I have for ZB! To preface for those who haven’t read it yet. The Zora Bride is my BoTW Miphlink Princess Bride AU. Minor spoilers ahead for parts of the world you will eventually learn later. There are plenty of headcanons I wish to share, but I don’t want to spoil the story too much, so I’ll share what I can.
1. The Hylians are assholes. They are Evil™. They conquered Hyrule long ago, subjugating and vassalizing the various races and tribes of Hyrule. The Zora and Rito are vassaled states, while the Gorons have basically been enslaved for hard labor. (Though the Hylians merely call it indentured labor). The Gerudo are the only free race, owing to the natural defense the Gerudo Canyon and Desert provide. Not for a lack of trying, however. Occasional Hyrulean raids are sent into the desert, looking for a weak point. These skirmishes have left many a Gerudo town destroyed and plenty dead on both sides.
2. Hyrule neighbors the kingdoms of Labrynna and Holodrum. The Kingdom of Lorule lies far across the sea. Diplomatic relations between Labrynna and Hyrule have been in decline of late, souring under the rule of the current prince.
3. The Twili exist and live in a small kingdom neighboring Lorule. They are so far the only known race to possess magic.
4. The Sheikah once served Hyrule as they do in the canon, but later left in self-exile after Hyrule’s actions. They haven’t been seen since.
5. The Zora worship both Hylia and Lord Jabu-Jabu, but the latter has been on a decline ever since the War.
#thanks for the asks!#after miphlinkweek is over I'm diving right back into this story#can't wait to share more of it with you all!

General fandom rule of thumb: Just because a certain ship happens to be the most popular doesn’t mean it’s being “shoved down people’s throats”. It’s popular for a reason. People like drawing it or writing about it for a reason. Just because you might not understand or agree with why it is doesn’t mean these creatives who do enjoy it are out to ruin your fun. Ship and let ship! You do you!
You’re right, Mipha doesn’t deserve hate and it sucks that people hate on her for virtually no reason. But to say that “Zelink shippers are notorious” for all of those things is counterproductive and completely missing my point. Taking quotes and canon facts out of context? Every ship in the entire world has supporters who do this, and they are usually in the vocal minority. It’s not exclusive to the Zelda fandom.
I’ve been in fandoms for 17 years and I have seen all the patterns. What boggles me about this particular case is that it’s theoretically possible for both to be canon at different times (or even some slight overlap) and yet people still seem to think this is a contest. First of all, there’s no contest if one of the parties is dead. Second of all, you’re entitled to what you wanna ship. No one is stopping you. It’s just shipping. And just like there’s cruddy people out there downplaying Miphlink, there’s plenty out there downplaying Zelink as well (“Link was just doing his job”, “They were just co-workers”, “There was no deep bond between them”, etc.) It goes both ways. Hence my post.
I will never understand why Zelink shippers and Miphlink shippers are always at each other’s throats. At all. Cuz here’s the thing... you can have both.
Maybe Link did love Mipha before the Calamity and later fell in love with Zelda during/after BotW
