@emeraldtied asked:
Did it take long for the hero to make his way outside? No, not at all, though seeing the state his partner was in had alarm bells going off in his head as he lowered himself to be more level with the hybrid. There was no hesitation as a hand rested on the other's back, but the hero found himself reluctant to speak at the same time. He felt that the other needed rest first and foremost.
The pounding of his head had yet to cease as the darkened eyes opened. He'd heard the approaching footsteps and managed to turn his pained gaze up to his partner. While he might not have been able to let out more than a whine, he at least wagged the tip of his tail.
One hand pulled away from his head, nose wrinkling at the smattering of crimson all over his fingers. His tongue stuck out at the sight before he took to just lying in the grass as he was. The hand on his back was comforting and welcome.
As quickly as they had opened, the hybrid's eyes closed again to do exactly what his mate wanted him to do. Rest.
But it wasn't surprising that he shifted himself somewhat to curl around the hero instead of just lying prone.
The closer they were, the safer he felt.

A chuff of agreement was given at his partner's words. While the hybrid doubted the other part of him, who wasn't as accepting of what he was now, might have all the answers that he did. But it was a frustrating matter trying to speak.
Still he would try. "Answer what I can."
The words sounded almost foreign in his deep tone, but he managed them all the same and led Infinite over to sit on the couch. A better spot to talk, cuddle, and be comfortable.
He did this by nearly laying most of his massive head in the jackal's lap.
{{ L }} Not like Infinite minds if Volt had decided to cup a feel, just thought it bold if that had been the intention.
Infinite let out a content hum at the other nuzzle, leaning into the hand on his cheek. Action certainly did speak louder than words, but Infinite would certainly have questions.
" When you voice returns, I would like to know what causes this... I haven't asked much about your past. It's mostly to avoid having the questions reciprocated, but I suppose I shouldn't keep avoiding it. "

@dyadhogs asked:
no that hadn't convinced the couple at all but they had gotten the message to take a few steps back at least. not because they were afraid but they could tell something was up and they didn't want to make it worse for their friend. the small lapse didn't help either, both hedgehogs looking expectantly at volt before he finally answered. and this time, wisteria scoffed. "no, you are not, you can't fool us." it was a nice try but even basswood was giving the hybrid a look as they mentioned not hurting the pair. wasn't that kind of a guarantee...? "is there anything we can do...?"
There was a breath of relief as the pair backed up. It had given him a chance to ease himself into thinking of just how in the source he was going to explain this. Explain himself to them. Would they even believe him was another question he wasn't sure he wanted the answer to, but hearing Wisteria respond, he knew that trying to play this off wasn't going to work.
Now if only it wasn't so hard to speak when he was like this.
Thank Chaos she had asked a question he could answer without words. While he gave them a look of appreciation, he shook his head. There wasn't anything he could think they could do, or anything he could do either.
After a moment, he raised his hands and began to move them in a deliberate manner.
[I think I had a mental breakdown... Not quite normal at the moment... It's complicated.]
Please for the love of Chaos, one of them had to understand sign.

Rya actually smiled as he stood, a delight about her that she didn't hide. Not that she was one to hide her emotions anyway. She smiled, teeth on display as she gave him a good look over. She didn't understand, but she didn’t need to. "I do. I do not mind this secret of yours."
More than willing to return the smile, his tail wagged as she took in his appearance. His fur was thicker and rougher than usual and just a shade darker. Quills could have been mistaken for unkempt but still quite manageable while settling against his lower back. However, one of the biggest differences was the way he stood. The hybrid's legs matched his daughters in how they formed.
All in all, it added to his more wild appearance.
"Can look like... th-is anytime~"

He is now just staring at the size of his hand in his transformed form.
Was it really that big?
He couldn't deny that picking up a cup only required two fingers like this...

@dyadhogs asked:
❝ uh...are you good? ❞ it was all basswood could think to ask as he looked at volt. volt, that was, with a few very noticeable changes that even wisteria was having a hard time not staring at with wide eyes.
Now, there was a million-dollar question that he didn't really have an answer to at the moment. Honestly, he didn't have an answer in general, with the pounding of his head making it so hard to focus on anything. It sent his senses into overdrive, and he couldn't help the guttural growl that came at seeing two Mobians a bit too close for his current comfort.
Darkened eyes, still muddled with pain, lifted to meet the emerald eyes of both hedgehogs. He stared at them for a moment before a hint of clarity appeared.
Right, he'd been asked a question...
"Ffff-fine..." He knew full well the lie wasn't going to pass the couple's vibe check, but he tried anyway. Thankfully, he had enough sense to remain in his normal form and not transform, but he could already tell that wouldn't be the last of their questions.
"I... here. Wwwo-n't hurt you."

His head was pounding after that last encounter.
Volt grit his teeth and sat down in the grass of their backyard to hold his head. It felt as if his skull was trying to split itself apart. Claws gripped at his temples, eyes tightly closed as tears began to form. The scent of blood entered the air as his flesh gave under his claw's tight hold.
Like a war was waging inside his head, the deep gravely voice responding to his low whimpers of pain. As tightly as he could, Volt curled himself up as if it would ease the agony in his skull.
And then everything faded.

@reflections-of-mobius asked:
Node had been more than a little off, the past few days. There were nervous glances here and there- their tail puffing up off and on as they tried to gather their thoughts. They were trying to sort out how best to approach Volt about what they'd been hoping for- and planning. But now that they were on the couch, eyes on the blank page before them, pencil having been unmoving ever since they sat down... "....ey, Volt?..." They could already feel their tail beginning to fluff up. They worried off and on, sure, but they were especially concerned when it came to loved ones- when it came to Volt. Bless. Harmony.- While the change would be what they wanted,...they couldn't help but fear it wouldn't be to the taste of either of their partners. They could chalk it up to anxiety,...but it was difficult to do when said anxiety was eating away at their logic, chipping at it. They could barely feel the pen in their hand, or the faint coarseness of the sketchbook. There was no way to tell how the other would react in advance- sure, they could probe and dance around the issue, but...this would affect their physical form. What if they were less desired, as a result?
"....how would you react,....if I told ya I was tryin' t'save up.." They could guess how their fur must've looked, given how hard and fast their heart was pounding. They were sure they were probably pale, unwilling to make eye contact- pencil still stuck on that first dot, the very start of the first line. "....for top surgery?..."
One perk of being in the state he had been in for the last few weeks, it was so much easier to pick up on the little details from his partners. Things they did that tipped him off that things weren't as they usually were. Node's body language was one of them and led to the transformed hybrid taking a seat next to them on the couch to offer his own brand of comfort.
At least this time, he didn't decide to take up the majority of their lap with his head and instead let them lean on him while they sketched. The deep rumble of his purr quieted as they spoke, and darkened eyes looked down with a smile. The arm resting over the couch's back came down as the hybrid used the back of his fingers to affectionately rub their cheek.
"Hmm?" A small sound to let them know he was listening.
It wasn't hard for him to see the signs of nervousness. Why, he couldn't quite understand, but as they started speaking... Slowly, the pieces began to come together.
"Love you." It really was that simple to him. He pulled them even closer to his chest and nuzzled the top of their head with his chin. Hopefully that would quell any of their fears on how he felt. Volt reached over to grab his handheld with his free hand.
There was something comical about how small it looked in his hand at the moment, but the tip of his thumb was used to open it and open up a browser he could search with. Soon enough, the handheld was held where his partner could see it. A list of some of the top surgeons in the Zone and their contact info.
"Ppp-ops can.. h-elp too. H-e knows mm-ost o' them."

@multisuperfluity asked:
It was small, slightly conspicuous gift. Tala never understood why some places packed meat in paper but it was a bundle of such she dropped at Volt's feet. A fresh kill of her own doing, but she figured a corpse wouldn't be as well received. She still didn't want to reveal her other form in the village, preferring to stay as a canine. "Harmony mentioned you like to cook. I thought you could use this."
It was lucky that Volt wasn't alone in the garden when Tala decided to stop by. His massive head lifted at the approaching footsteps, but his daughter's hands kept him rooted in the spot, still settled on his quills.
The darkened eyes followed the package dropped next to them and leaned over to sniff it.
"He loves t' cook, just not right now." Harmony was more than happy to speak up for her father as he carefully shook her hands off his head to nose open the paper. "Remember the jerks that messed with us last year before my birthday?"
Hopefully, their adventure wasn't completely forgotten as the teen got up and reached for the package. She had to flick his nose when he let out a low warning growl but could collect it before he'd eaten all of it right then and there.
Emerald eyes glanced at the remains, then to the firepit nearby. It wouldn't take her too long to get a fire started.
"How 'bout I show ya how well I can cook? I've gotten really good at campfire cookin'."

Careful not to snap the string bean.
The fact that the hybrid had been picking green beans when the masked mobian approached him earned them a confused look. One brow raised as the darkened eyes looked from the tinted glasses to the lone 'string' bean between his thumb and index finger.
"Am... Care-ful." Whatever they might have been alluding to had been lost to him as he returned to picking the green beans planned for their dinner that night.

@emeraldtied asked:
It was late, and maybe that's why the hero had looked at his partner expectantly in the first place. It was the hours where the village fell quiet, no one up and about. "Feel up t' a walk on the beach?" He wanted the other to get out of the house a little bit.
For a moment, the hybrid had wondered if it had been that obvious that he was going a little stir-crazy in the house since the whole incident started. When not lounging on the couch, he spent the majority of his time out in the garden and enjoyed the sun. The urge to take off into the woods and just let himself go had been a hard one to fight, but the question from his partner had darkened eyes shining.
He gave a soft sound of agreement, followed by a purr as he closed the space between them. Mismatched arms slipped over his husband's shoulders, leaning down for a nuzzle of their cheeks before his eyes went to the door. The tip of his tail wiggled.
With one more press of his nose to Arrow's cheek, a hand was taken in his own as they made their way out the door. The lack of apparel (shoes included) was disregarded. It was late enough that no one was going to care that he was technically naked out in public. The only one whose opinion mattered was standing right beside him.
"Dance?" His gruff voice was soft and questioning as he looked at the sky above them. Clear of any clouds with the perfect amount of stars and moonlight.

We thinks your husband might have a few screws loose.
For as protective as the hero was of Volt, the reverse was just as true. The comment was met with a growl that startled even the nearby birds in the trees as the hybrid glared into the stranger's glasses.
That urge to get up and rip the other into as many pieces as possible was strong. Almost overwhelming but he was able to suppress it...
To a point.
Volt pushed himself from his prone position in the grass with his husband and used the forward momentum to ram the top of his massive head into the stranger's chest.
How far they went, was just over the fence, but he let out a snort and laid right back down.
"Pr-ick..."

@cxffeeshxp asked:
Despite all his time with the hybrid, Infinite had never seen him in this state before. The difference in height still in Infinite favor but just not as much. Which was the most noticeable to the jackal. " My, quite the growth spurt. "
The sound of a voice drew the hybrid's attention, and one ear had turned before the rest of his head had followed. The darkened eyes narrowed briefly before a small bit of clarity appeared.
It took only a moment for him to realize this was not the Infinite he had once taken care of in a rather disgusting display. A moment more for him to remember that they were more than just friends. Even if the jackal himself never seemed to want to admit it.
But he was sure that Infinite had seen him in his transformed state. It made it easier to distinguish when he was in control.
A snort was his answer to the comment, darkened eyes looking up into mismatched before smirking. The deep gravel of his voice was hard to manage words, but he did.
"You like it." No one ever said the feral side couldn't be sassy when he wanted to be.

For as much as Rya was enjoying telling her stories, Volt was enjoying listening. It was always interesting to hear just how similar and how different their worlds were. Technically they were centuries into the future from what he could understand but that didn’t stop him from imagining how life had been back then for his friend.
Still, his smile only grew at the threat. If only because he knew it was promise.
No further argument came from the transformed hybrid. Just a quick lean closer to his friend so that he could bump his forehead against an arm. The deep rumble of his purr sending small vibrations across the water surface.
When their five minutes ended, he made no fuss as they went back to the shore. Even as he dragged his slightly waterlogged pelt onto dry land, there was a wiggle to his tail in amusement before he pulled a pose that was well known by everyone friends with his daughter. On all fours, a good and thorough shake sent a good majority of the water in every direction. Disheveled fur and quills gave him a far more wild look as he turned to look at Rya again.
“Th-ank you…”
If anything had the bright idea to sneak up or attack the two, they would have likely met a swift end. Which wasn't at all Rya's style, and would have proven that she was in no mood to be interrupted. Of course there was no fear of that at the moment, and even The Gorgon was far more relaxed than she usually was floating there, even supporting the hybrid. Probably an odd sight to anyone who looked out onto the lake, but she didn't care.
It was obvious she got a kick out of being able to tell a few tales from her prime, as some might have called it. Things had settled down considerably over the last few centuries but she would always look back on the old days with a fondness. One she was glad to share.
She didn't know how long she had been rambling, but Volt's answer surprised her nonetheless. She didn't know if she believed him entirely, but the look she turned to him was more amused than anything.
Seems he was a fan of their little outing. Good. She thought he could use it. But she also wasn't going to let him wrinkle away out there either. They could always come back another time. The lake wasn't going anywhere.
"Five minutes. Then we head back, even if I have to drag you."

The quiet never bothered him, rarely did. It was much more calming than anything else, and it showed in the way the hybrid's muscles relaxed. His eyes were still cast skyward. While some would have found the lack of sound around them unnatural, Volt knew that, if there was any danger, it wouldn't survive long enough to do anything.
Not between himself and Rya.
Just because she had promised not to let anything happen to him didn't mean he was unaware of how strong she was. They always say that those with colorful markings were sometimes the deadliest of them all, after all.
So he planned to enjoy the company and listen to the stories she told him while watching the stars cross the sky. The darkness of the water mirrored their image, along with the transformed hybrid's own sclera. The comfortable silence was only broken by the water shifting from his tail, gently swaying under its surface.
But he turned his gaze from the sky as she spoke. Considering that the pads of his organic fingers had begun to wrinkle, the answer should have been a nod, but he shook his head. A few more minutes wouldn't hurt.
"Can't g-et sick... Five more minutes."
What some people didn't realize was just how quiet things could be on the water. There, in the middle of such a body, there was what some might have called an eerie silence, with maybe a suggestion of sound but nothing concrete. Even Rya's swimming was near silent, owning to her nature of a predator in some circles, but there was a content expression even on her face.
She was glad she could show it to Volt, and she could both hear and feel the rumbling that had started from him. A good sign, if she remembered correctly.
Hopefully it would stay that way she dove into a general overview of the more popular legends of her time. Going over nearly fifty would have taken too much time, so she stuck with the likes of Orion and Hercules. Of their tales of, at times, questionable morals and their legacies and deaths. Looking up, she even tried to find comparable stars to point out so he could understand what she was talking about.
All the while she floated there as if it were second nature, never letting the hybrid sink in the slightest. She was content there in the silence that followed her story, though it seemed a few minutes later she remembered one more thing about mortals, mammals specifically.
"I can take you back whenever you are ready if you are....water-logged." She thought that was the right word for it.

While not the strongest swimmer in this form, the hybrid could at least keep himself above the water as Rya took them further off the shore. He hadn’t been expecting the tail to slip under him, but had only raised his quills for a moment before settling. At no point did the hybrid doubt his friend’s word of keeping him safe in the water and just enjoyed the ride.
By the time they had reached the middle of the lake, darkened eyes were mostly focused on the sight above them. Without any form of light source, beyond Rya’s bioluminescence, so many stars were clear as day. Including the colorful array from galaxies and nebulas.
Words couldn’t even describe the beauty, but hopefully the deep rumbling purr that rose from his throat would make do as he turned his gaze back to his friend and gave her hand a gentle squeeze.
“Similar.” He managed an answer and gestured to the stars with his free hand. “Tell me… yours.”
One day the hybrid would return the favor of telling Rya about their legends and constellations, but for now; he wanted to hear about hers. The stars hadn’t changed much from the years that had passed since the planet was called earth.
The Gorgon's eyes, quite literally, lit up in delight as her hand was taken, their violet glow subtle but noticeable when their eyes met. She had no plans but to have a good time with Volt, no nefarious intentions or even jokes as she helped him into the water. Again, she had little idea how fur and water worked but she was keeping a close eye on him.
Once they were deep enough Volt had to tread water, Rya's smile grew tenfold. Especially as she got her answer.
"Good."
That was all she needed. The only prompt she needed to bring her tail around to all but rest between her friend's legs and along his torso. It wasn't hard to see, or feel, how it began to morph, grow bigger and thicker. Just enough that it could easily support the hybrid while the Gorgon swam on. Rya didn't know what a bodyboard was, but she could have likened her tail to one in that moment.
She brought them further and further out until the shore was as out of sight as it could get. Even so, the darkness that was surrounding them made sure that little could be seen around them except the reflections of the stars above. And it was a sight to see, to be in the middle of.
"I know not what legends surround them in this realm, but where I am from stars are said to be the spirits that once lived on Earth. The constellations are based on the Gods' most favored of heroes. Legends, if you will."
