I think black sails' main major flaw to me is how little focus the crews themselves get, despite how much of the story is focused on their approval and loyalty. Like the Walrus's crew all had names and I believe consistent actors and they just did not take advantage of it as much as could have been.
We get told they trust Silver at the end of s2 more than we see it and despite Silver placing his worth in their opinion of him and it driving his character for most of s3 we don't see much of his relationship with them, and the near absence of this aspect of his character goes almost unnoticed in all the plot of s4. Nevermind the other crews who at most got a named quartermaster and mostly rotated the rest of the cast throguh the ships.
Black Sails' writing is incredibly tight but I think in some ways it's almost too tight, as we only get glimpses and brief moments of telling and not showing of characters that could have done more for the story. As it is, though, walrus crew are mostly a singular mass who we get told have divided opinions but except a representative for negative sentiments that can be killed off to show the conflict's end the crew always function together at the command of whoever has spoken. You never know what Joji thinks, and just have to take for granted that he doesn't speak english and goes with whatever for survival's sake without much of a personal opinion on the nonsense going on around him.
They're actually pretty okay about it in s1 and parts of s2, but as the plot ramps up in s3 and s4 and the cast multiplies with the maroons and british anyone who isn't a main character gets pushed out. Which make sense but also the crew remains incredibly important they just replace them with Gunn and Hands, and Degroot's the only one who retains any importance.
It's more of a situation of you can't do everything, and after s1 the plot is so increbly fast paced and complex I'm not sure adding more episodes to give the breathing room needed to slip scenes with the crew in would have helped more than harmed. But it is one of those things that makes wish for... idk, like a mini series spin off thats lower stakes from the crew's perspective, like following Joji and his time on the crew. Something to even just retrospectively give a bit more weight to all the scenes of a cannon bladting 3 guys' limbs off and giving us more than the single convo Silver had with Muldoon to be sad about his death, or even just put more names to faces in the scene where they promise to look out for him.
Especially given that most of the main characters' are at least partly motivated and characterized by their relationship to said crew, whether that's Billy who is entirely driven by his care for them as brother, Flint who cares but ultimately sees them as pawns, or Silver whose character development is built around his changing relationship with them. Billy's story especially, the show treats Gunn as something of a standin for the crew in his story but the fact that Gunn ultimately never actually gives any opinions about the power shifts and falls in line with Flint without any fanfare says a lot.
They do it every once in a while where a crewmate will get aone big scene to show them off like the sniper or the leg cutting or the drowning, and I think even just a few more of those would have been great. Dufresne's treatment by the story from season to season definitely perfectly encapsulates the fall off I think.
Idk i think a lot about how we got to see every crevise of Flint's psyche while the only time Joji's name is said on screen is completely disconected from him to the point few people know his name, and seconds couldn't be spared for acknowledgement that he likely couldn't speak english to the point its equally reasonable to assume he was simply never given any lines, despite both being in the show from beginning to end. For a character who could have had his own entire series based on how the hell he got where he is and whose personal story could have so easily and heavily tied into the main themes of the show, it's pretty remarkable.
I want a prequel/sidequel with Joji as the main character, is what I'm saying.

Embracing my inner Cringe Queen by dumping some Among Us OC art here. Meet Annings the Cyan Crewmate, Soot the Black Imposter, and Robin the Cyan Mini Imposter! Bonus context is under the cut at the end of this post, but you can enjoy the jokes and stuff in this without it! All you need to know is that Annings is a medic and Robin is her adopted daughter.

(Story summary / teaser below!)
Annings was the sole survivor of a civilian cruiser that was boarded by imposters when she was a child. She became a bit of a poster child for the war efforts against the shapeshifting alien rebels MIRA worked so hard to stomp out, despite never once voicing a similar opinion. After she grew up on Earth, she decided for take a MIRA flight back into space— this time as a medic instead of a civilian— seeking closure from her traumatic experience on her last flight.
Instead of closure, she was granted custody of an orphan whose mother was ejected on suspicions of being an imposter. Annings didn’t believe the accusations, and returned to earth with her newfound ward, Robin, whereupon she realized that most toddlers shouldn't be able to split down the middle and swallow their lunch whole, plate and all.
Robin's health began to fail not long after their arrival on earth, and Annings was forced to choose between her fear of meeting another hostile imposter and her fear of losing her daughter. She chose to return to space, taking as many jobs on MIRA flights as possible so that she could increase her odds of encountering an imposter who might know what was wrong with Robin and help her fix it. It took long enough that she began to fear whether Robin would make it to the next flight, but eventually she found one such infiltrated flight--- and the freshly deceased captain had named her his replacement in the case of his death.
Annings puts her knowledge of imposter stratagem to use in order to minimize the threat of continued deaths, and confronts one of the pair of imposters she picked out amongst the crewmates. This imposter, who used the human name Soot as part of his disguise, was fully prepared to kill Annings when she proposed a deal where he'd help her and she wouldn't reveal his true identity to the crew... But when she told him about Robin's wasting away and how she didn't know how to fix it, and he realized she had set up backup after backup to ensure he wouldn't find an alibi whenever he had the chance to kill her, he learned he was doomed to become a walking childcare manual for her.
Long story short, Soot ends up getting attached to both Robin and Annings, and when disaster strikes and threatens the lives of those they hold dear, he throws everything away for the human and child he's come to care for. Meanwhile, Annings has to reconcile her trauma with the bond she's forming with this new imposter and her fear of ending up just like the massacred civilians of her childhood flight.
Robin, meanwhile, is just chilling throughout the story and wondering why all the grown-ups are so angsty all the time.

Among Us Info Post
Summary:
Tumblr media
As The Skeld makes its scheduled shipment to Polus, it is discovered by the crew that the ship's anti-impostor protocol is on the fritz! Ordinarily, this would be manageable, if troublesome - only, unbeknownst to all, the crew is in fact almost entirely impostors, with only one crewmate among them all! Will the Skeld Crew survive impostors getting underfoot of and sabotaging each other long enough to reach Polus? And if they do, will they be prepared for what awaits them there...?

Did someone ask for bad fanart of the among us show, no? Well to bad
Tumblr media
As soon as I saw these two’s designs and that they would probably be in the same department due to them having similar jobs (cyans a gemologist while blacks a geologist) my lesbian ship loving ass immediately thought of a opposites attract dynamic mixed with protective extrovert (cyan) and shy introvert (black, purely due to her fun fact being that she prefers rocks to people) and then this was born, I’m not sure what to call the ship name yet I’m thinking cylack but I’m not to sure
Now WHERE IS THE MINI CREWMATE CHARACTER INNERSLOTH PLEASE IM BEGGING YOU PLEASE

Small Moments and Small Gestures that Make a Home
Strongest Suit
So first new work in a little while, and not what I was really expecting to work on next, but here it is! This is going to be a little mini (?) series based off of trivia from the SBS answers
AO3 Link
Word Count: Almost 1K
Clothing is one of many ways for a person to express themself, from the styles, the patterns, and down to the color choices.
It's always nice too, when some gets you something to wear because they see it and think of you.
Nami took a great amount of pride in her ability to find a deal no matter what she was shopping for. She would admit, though, that her two biggest money drains were also her biggest frustrations. The biggest was, of course, the food budget, feeding ten normal people on a ship, and keeping enough food for extended trips would be enough of a task. Feeding her own crew, with Luffy’s appetite alone, was an endeavor that would stump many. She’d managed somehow while still managing to keep a significant amount for the other needs of her crew, and herself, of course.
The next was, surprisingly, the clothing budget. They all got into so many fights, fights that were only getting stronger and more dangerous as they went on. And the fighters that get closer and more physical almost always have some kind of clothing damage. It could range from anywhere from minor tears, burns, and stains that wouldn’t disappear to the garments becoming nothing more than scraps that were barely hanging on their frames.
None of them tried to avoid it. Luffy didn’t care, nor did Zoro, really, and it’s not a priority really when one is fighting for their lives. Still, it miffed Nami just a bit that she had to replace more shirts and sandals than she really should have to.
Most of it gets curbed though by the fact that some of the damage can be mended by a simple needle and thread or a patch or two.
It’s the ones that can’t be repaired though that leads part of her shopping trip today. They’d docked on a small island, big enough to get enough food that Sanji has a list for and his allowed budget and to restock on other necessary supplies.
Such as new clothing, needles, thread, and fabric rolls or yards.
Nami’s handling this trip herself. Usopp and Franky are looking for new tools or scrap to build with, Robin and Chopper are getting medicine and books, and she’s unsure of where Luffy and Zoro are while Brook and Jinbe are on the Sunny.
Nami wouldn’t trust most of her crewmates to buy the clothes if she’s being honest, some like Robin and maybe Usopp or Sanji if it was small things she could allow. The others? They all had… difficulties when finding things like this.
Besides, she has the best ability to find deals! And she has all of her Nakama’s sizes memorized at this point, so she’ll have no problems doing this fun solo.
She manages to get a decent haul after only an hour or two of shopping. Nothing too fancy and more on the durable side than anything. She’s allowing herself to try on a few of the nicer things, as a treat for all her efforts, but not planning on buying anything. She’s turning to look and see how the dress she’s trying looks in the back when a blue tie catches her eye.
It’s a pleasant shade of a deep blue, like the ocean can be some days, and a simple pattern. It would look good with plenty of Sanji’s button ups and suits too.
Nami stops, staring at the tie, thinking the price over and what she’s willing to spend when a pink scarf nearby stands out amongst the others it’s sitting with. It would probably look good on Chopper and he would appreciate it. Then she notices a black pocket square with white pinstripes in the same section. Brook could likely use something like that.
She can’t help but to start looking more closely now, picking up the items she’s already seen and adding it to her purchases. She’s finding other things now, a truly gaudy light blue patterned shirt large enough to fit a cyborg, a green undershirt perfect for working out in cooler weather, a set of bangles colored purple that shouldn’t be obtrusive, a yellow set of suspenders that would look striking, an ochre shirt with a more subdued pattern for a fishman, and a red hoodie with a zipper that should be roomy enough for a rubberman to stretch in..
All things in her friend’s favorite colors and styles, things that will make them smile and brighten their days hopefully.
She manages to also find herself an anklet with an orange gem studded into it, and she manages to haggle and charm her way into deals enough to not make her balk at the price.
She quickly gathers her bags and takes her prizes back to Sunny. Most of her Nakama are still out at the time so she can easily distribute her haul the way it’s intended into everyone’s personal stores.
It’s not long before Nami’s finds start showing up on the ship. Jinbe wears his new Hawaiian shirt on one of his more casual days. Brook’s pocket square is front and center in his shirt the same day Sanji’s wearing his new tie and being more attentive as a thanks. Zoro comes down from the crows nest after a workout and is tackled by the youngest of their lot once they catch sight of green. Usopp tugs on his suspenders as he gets ready to tell a new tale for his audience of Luffy and Chopper, a scarf tied around his antler and sticking out like a flag from where he’s tucked into Luffy’s half zipped hoodie.
Nami smiles, proud and coy to herself when out of the corner of her eye she spots cyan as Franky places out a table for her and Robin, and she hears bangles clinking together as Robin turns a page of her book. She stretches out, ready to lounge in the sun, new anklet glinting in the light.
Nami may not like spending a lot of money, even less so if it’s not entirely necessary, but she does enjoy treating her friends occasionally. More so when she can actively see them enjoying it.

Mission to the Unknown
season 003 : story 019 : episode 086
09 OCT 1965 || 08 JUN 2023
Watched the 2019 recreation instead of Loose Cannon reconstruction or listening to the BBC audio, and goodness me it’s an amazing accomplishment.
For the episode itself;
Cory and Lowry on this godforsaken planet gives the story a good feeling of isolation and helplessness, especially when Cory deduces that Daleks are present due to the Varga plants.
While I’m not a fan of the Daleks allying themselves with non-Daleks (and this has SIX allying parties), their joint power gives a genuine sense of dread for the Masterplan and the sheer scope of the Dalek-aligned forces mounting an invasion on the Solar System.
The Daleks finding and destroying the UN spaceship adds to the helplessness of Cory and Lowry’s situation, as if they manage to launch their beacon they could theoretically be rescued, but being realistic, that was their fate sealed; all they could possibly do now is send the warning beacon. Lowry getting stung by the Varga plant because Cory accidentally hits his shoulder too hard is pretty tragic, and his composure when he’s forced to kill his last compatriot is quite unnerving; his understanding of the situation, and willingness to act before emotions take hold of him is pretty dark. Cory’s eventual death really adds to the weight of this mini-story. Since he died before he was able to send the beacon, the episode could feel a bit pointless, but really it’s a prologue to Masterplan showing just how dire Humanity’s situation with the looming Dalek invasion is.
As for the recreation;
The sets look incredibly genuine, and the effects of the third crewmate turning into a Varga plant looks like it could’ve been executed identically in 1965. The costumes of the alien delegates feels costume-y which is just how they should look, and the period-accurate Daleks complete with misaligned slats and pale white eyes is much appreciated. The voices by Briggs was so spot-on I thought they’d just used the surviving audio for all of the Daleks’ dialogue.
And obviously presenting the episode in black and white was just… the correct choice. That, and keeping William Hartnell, Terry Nation, and Ron Grainer in the credits while the rest are the people involved in the recreation, plus the inclusion of “Next episode : Temple of Secrets” were all excellent choices that really make this recreation blend into season 3.
And it’s the perfect episode for a recreation of this kind; no Doctor or companions to be recast for everyone to get mad about.

Update & V1.2: Been working tirelessly behind the scenes, got a month's worth of content to be released but was waiting until they were finished. My passion is blazing hotter than a Hundred-Suns. I've create a new style that ideally going forth is what I'll aim to master. In this style, I've done nearly every single Crewmate on the roster including some major supporting characters. They're sort of like-mini trailers / character intros you'd see in a fighting game, that include music, gif(that show off glimpses their character) Combined with their own voice-lines. As if you were getting them in a gacha game. xD I'm calling them 'Insights.' This isn't even the half of what I've in-store, but already achieved.
The intent is you put them altogether and you get a bigger picture and trailer. Very shortly when I truly return to writing I'll be getting my War arc ready and prepared, that'll see to the actual journey of everything. Talking about visiting several isles mystical and otherwise, for treaties, new cultures, relics to find/retrieve, lot of the seeds I sowed throughout many XIVWrites. Even doing chapter 1. From the very beginning uncovering every detail that has been calculated, as well do all the characters on the Crew and their pacific quests (very a-kin to DA/ME) before that big showdown at the War. I've also created another new style, I call this one 'Soul Journeys' they recap Captain's quest for his missing fragments utilizing the butterfly, they're like Insights but a lot more writing involved and takes an excessive amount of energy from me but good recaps. I had fun. With lot of the random Greek sets, doing themes outside the box, pushing my limits, but I lost a sight and merely was wasting my precious creativity, I am just passionate, the thing that isn't exclusive or unattainable, the only thing that is sharable that can spread to like-minded. I'm a writer foremost; a storyteller. So me try to attempt so many challenges with gpose and gifs without purpose, were never going to show progression that I'd have liked ...But the way you approach something can lead to vibrant results. So I've combined everything. I previously learned, into one. Holding back less. I've brought and revised a character from old ancient days, that'll make my creatively bloom and soar to heights I couldn't previously do, that'll keep my passion running to make me wanna get back to writing to unlock them in stories and flush out their character arc. This new style isn't to hard on the mind or a bedridden body either. So I can possibly create the antagonist side of their retrospectives too when I get their designs ready or near the respective timeline. Previously did pretty poor job at showing the depths of my passion, I never included Crew much or gave them the same quality or consistency. So now I've got to make amends. I got another style of sets in my mind, called, 'Relation & Factions' that will emotionally seek to capture Captain's relations or various crew-mates with one another in a visual-way for future project, idea. Going back to butterfly, instead of just Soul Journey, that spawned another idea too. I'll recap every event of Captain's memories/story and life, through a visual-style one-day ideally calling them 'Fluttering Memories' this is a alternative which is more poetic, story-driven, compared to The Black Cat Misadventures that's to be more goofy. Let's see... I also intend to polish this up more, (Fixed lot of tags and prepared for more). Also I'll redo the whole Roster with the final-production of the Crew give it more life-to-it with animation, or something. While probably doing same with the cover. xD Also make the a [Writing] just one-link to everything. While detailing stuff better. Good news is I've got a few years back on my life and vitality in my break, I worked out with the same level of passion until I hit my limits and the summer heat whooped me. xD But I've also confirmed my limit, exactly 3 months, no more & no less. That goes it seems for a mind and body at me consistently pushing it. I wish could make it raise-higher than that. ...But now I know that. I'm at peace and solace. I know how to more properly take-breaks or what to do now to manage. So I'm just unleashing big chunks every now and then. Hopefully get a few chapters done before next year is here, least get the wheels turned, though now, I've infinite things to work on and styles to maneuver in, whenever I come around. :D Cheers as ever treasured hearties.

(Collection of everything I have written thus far in various Master-Lists/Volumes/Compendium. Going to pin and update this as I progress aka, “Mun About Page”, and a listing for the entire Roster of characters I’ve established in writing or showcase. Since I have too many muses; a practical universe, I’ll have to do their individual character-sheets sometime, then put all those collectives in multiple master-pages, then provide links onto that.)
