Vivek Ramaswamy has described himself as an âoutsiderâ, accusing rivals for the Republican presidential nomination of being âbought and paid forâ by donors and special interests.
But the 38-year-old Ohio-based venture capitalist, whose sharp-elbowed and angry display stood out in the first Republican debate this week, has his own close ties to influential figures from both sides of the political aisle.
Prominent among such connections are Peter Thiel, the co-founder of tech giants PayPal and Palantir and a rightwing mega-donor, and Leonard Leo, the activist who has marshaled unprecedented sums in his push to stock federal courts with conservative judges.
Ramaswamy is a Yale Law School friend of JD Vance, the author of the bestselling memoir Hillbilly Elegy who enjoyed success in finance before entering politics. At Yale, Vance and Ramaswamy attended what the New Yorker called an âintimate lunch seminar for select studentsâ that was hosted by Thiel. Last year, backed by Thiel and espousing hard-right Trumpist views, Vance won a US Senate seat in Ohio.
Thiel has since said he has stepped back from political donations. But he has backed Ramaswamyâs business career, supporting what the New Yorker called âa venture helping senior citizens access Medicareâ and, last year, backing Strive Asset Management, a fund launched by Ramaswamy to attack environmental, social and governance (ESG) policies among corporate investors. Vance was also a backer.
Ramaswamyâs primary vehicle to success has been Roivant, an investment company focused on the pharmaceuticals industry founded in 2014.
The Roivant advisory board includes figures from both the Republican and Democratic establishments: Kathleen Sebelius, US health secretary under Barack Obama; Tom Daschle of South Dakota, formerly Democratic leader in the US Senate; and Olympia Snowe, formerly a Republican senator from Maine.
Ramaswamyâs links to Leo â recently the recipient of a $1.6BN donation from the industrialist Barre Seid, believed to be the biggest ever such gift, but now reportedly the subject an investigation by the attorney general of Washington DC â are many.
As reported by ProPublica and Documented, Ramaswamy has spoken at retreats staged by Teneo, a group Leo chairs and which aims to connect high-powered conservatives, to âcrush liberal dominanceâ in American life.
Other Teneo speakers have reportedly included Ron DeSantis, the Florida Governor polling ahead of Ramaswamy in the Republican primary, and the former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, who trails Ramaswamy and clashed with him on stage in Milwaukee.
ProPublica also linked Thiel to the genesis of the Teneo group. According to a document seen by The Guardian, Ramaswamy became a Teneo member in 2021.
Elsewhere, Ramaswamy is a board member of the Philanthropy Roundtable, a group with ties to Leo, and a member of the Federalist Society, the Leo-driven group which works to stock the courts with conservatives.
Ramaswamy has also spoken to and received an award from the State Financial Officers Foundation (SFOF), a group of Republican state treasurers.
In June, in South Carolina, the Post and Courier newspaper reported that last year, before launching his presidential bid, Ramaswamy attempted âto leverage his [Republican] connections to gain access [for Strive] to lucrative contracts to manage pension funds ⌠[with] total assets of $39.6BNâ.
Similar pushes were mounted in Missouri and Indiana, the paper said. Curtis Loftis, the South Carolina state treasurer, told the Post and Courier there was ânothing improperâ about such approaches.
Asked about Ramaswamyâs claims to be an outsider in light of his links to rightwing donors, activists and establishment figures, a campaign spokesperson told The Guardian: âVivek has lived the American dream and has had tremendous success in business.â
âThereâs a colossal difference between someone who has friendships and business relationships with wealthy individuals and politicians who change their policies and positions to please their Super Pac donors,â they added.
In the Wisconsin debate, Ramaswamy flourished in the absence of Donald Trump, the former US president who faces 91 criminal charges but nonetheless leads Republican polling by huge margins.
Amid speculation that Ramaswamy might end up Trumpâs running mate, Reed Galen, a Republican operative turned co-founder of the anti-Trump Lincoln Project, called Ramaswamy âa classic 2020s America tech bro bullshit artist ⌠Trump for the 21st centuryâ.
Ramaswamyâs claim to be an outsider, Galen said, was part of his âfundamental understanding ⌠that MAGA [the pro-Trump Republican base] wants him to show that the rest of these people [in the primary] are politicians. Heâs willing to be the showman ⌠the outsider. Anti-establishment. âIf anything is there, I dislike it because itâs there.â You know, âIâm going to have fun with this. Iâm not going to take it seriously because youâre a bunch of hacks and goons.ââ
But in another sense, regarding Ramaswamyâs ties to the likes of Leo and Thiel, Galen said: âI think that heâs an insider.â
âHe walks into a room with Leonard Leo and says, âWhat do you need me to do?â ⌠And theyâre like, âHereâs what we want you to do. Hereâs what we need you to do.â Right?â
âDo I think [Ramaswamy] cares about [issues like restricting] abortion? No, not particularly. I donât think he has a firmly held belief on it. But if he thinks that it will help him, and in exchange for that Leonard Leo will throw a little chicken feed of the $1.6BN that old man gave him, to help him? Sure, what the hell?â
âHe didnât ever think heâd get this far. So now heâs just gonna push it as far as he can.â
Ramaswamy, Galen said, was closely tied to a world of donors and non-profits in which Leo is âcertainly at the center. And this movement only moves in one direction, and itâs toward the darkness. Itâs towards authoritarianism. And itâs because it finds people like Ramaswamy. And the more that all these other candidates will now attack him, they will drive him further and further into the arms of those people.â

478. 93 things about 1993, part 4
(part 3)
(source)
18. ValuJet flies for the first time (October 26)
ValuJet's first flight was from Atlanta to Tampa on October 26, 1993. By 1994, the planes with their silly mascot on them had made 15 emergency landings! 1 On June 8, 1995 one of their ancient planes had an engine fire on the tarmac in Atlanta.
We all know what happened to ValuJet just 2 1/2 years later.
19. Kenneth Junior French kills 4 because of "gays in the military". (August 7th)
He got four life terms + an extra 35 years tacked onto his sentence.
Newsweek, February 8, 1993
20. Socks Mania
People went absolutely feral over Bill Clinton's cat, Socks. There was merch:
Such as this Socks cat food container (eBay seller passalong)
This Socks watch that I still remember seeing at my local Kmart in 1996. Yes, the battery was dead. (eBay seller ha-340226)
This socks doll I also remember seeing at Kmart on a family vacation in Ohio that I desperately wanted. (eBay seller 13navybeans)
I don't have the date on it, but here is a clip of kids petting Socks at Christmas.
21. Julia Roberts and Lyle Lovett get married (June)
When Roberts returned to the set of The Pelican Brief following her wedding, the cast and crew (including co-star Denzel Washington) threw her a party in which they all wore shirts that read: "Heâs A Lovely Boy ⌠But You Really Must Do Something About His Hair" on the back. 2
They only lasted til 1995, but they were cute together.
22. Base Closings (March)
Growing up, I thought this was the first time bases closed in the U.S., ever. No, a whole bunch closed just a couple of years prior!

23. Florida tourists killed
The state government ordered that all company logos be removed from rental cars, and it abolished special license tags for such vehicles. Rental car agencies now give customers detailed safety brochures in English, Spanish, German and other languages, and they play tape recordings with similar messages over the public address systems in their rental offices every five minutes. 3
There was even a bit in the SNL episode (hosted by Shannen Doherty) where Phil Hartman played Disney's Michael Eisner, alerting tourists that you'll won't get murdered in northern Florida where Disney is:
Hi, Iâm Michael Eisner, speaking to you from the Magic Kingdom here in Orlando. You know, for the last few months, Florida has been victim to a terrible tragedy: the horrific murder of nine foreign tourists in Southern Florida. We here in Northern Florida express our sympathies.. to the families of those murdered hundreds of miles away.. in Miami, the capitol of Southern Florida.
8 tourists were killed in 1993. 4
24. Miller Clear
Faced with lackluster sales, the Miller Brewing Company has ended its market test of Miller Clear, the brewing industry's first clear beer. "We're not manufacturing it any longer for the near term," Eric Kraus, a spokesman for the Milwaukee-based brewer, said on Tuesday. "We had a tremendous initial trial, but repeat business was not necessarily as good." The beer that has been made will be sold, but no more will be brewed, Mr. Kraus said. In April, Miller began test-marketing its clear beer in Richmond, Minneapolis and Austin, Tex. 4
(there's some more about it on Weird Universe)
25. Tonya Harding's dress pops (January)
Earlier this year, a snap on her costume broke at the United States championships. At the 1992 Olympic trials, her blades were mounted slightly out of position, leaving her stranded with a broken axel. Skate problems also delayed her arrival at the 1992 Winter Games in Albertville, France, where she finished a disappointing fourth. By 1993, fourth was the best she could do at the United States championships. 5

Pence Raises Just $1.2 Million, Aide Says, in Worrying Sign for 2024 Bid
Former Vice President Mike Pence has raised a paltry $1.2 million for his presidential campaign, according to two campaign aides, a sum that raises dire questions about Republicansâ appetite for Mr. Pence in 2024.Now Mr. Penceâs campaign is fighting to qualify for the first televised Republican presidential debate next month in Milwaukee. An aide said he had not yet received donations from 40,000 donors, the threshold required to make the debate stage. Mr. Pence, who entered the race on June 5, was always a long-shot candidate in a contest dominated by his onetime running mate, former President Donald J. Trump. Adding to Mr. Penceâs challenges, he is also competing against other candidates, such as Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina, who appeal to evangelical voters.Mr. Penceâs repeated defense of his actions to certify Mr. Trumpâs defeat before Congress on Jan. 6, 2021, has alienated him from Mr. Trumpâs loyal base without appearing to win many converts from the wing of the Republican Party that wants to move on from the former president.Unlike other candidates who have employed online gimmicks to secure 40,000 donors, Mr. Pence has invested little in seeking out contributors on the internet. His campaign has spent just $14,230 in advertising on Facebook and Google, according to data collected by Bully Pulpit Interactive, marketing and communications agency, a figure that is one-fortieth of what has been spent on those platforms by Vivek Ramaswamy, a political newcomer who joined the race in February. In an admission of its struggle to raise money online, the Pence campaign plans to spend a large bulk of what it has raised on a robust direct-mail program aimed at helping him accrue enough donors to qualify for the first debate. The super PAC supporting Mr. Pence, Committed to America, had raised an additional $2.7 million during the fund-raising reporting period that ended June 30, an aide said. For a fund-raising vehicle that can accept unlimited contributions, such a total is quite small.Other Republican presidential candidates have announced far larger fund-raising sums from the three-month reporting period; some of them, unlike Mr. Pence, were in the race for the entire quarter.Mr. Trump said his campaign and his joint fund-raising committee had raised $35 million in the second quarter. Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida announced he had raised about $20 million. Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina governor and United Nations ambassador, raised $4.3 million for her campaign and an additional $3 million for her affiliated committees. Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina said his campaign had raised $6.1 million.Even Gov. Doug Burgum of North Dakota, who is largely self-funding his own hopeful campaign that began the same day as Mr. Penceâs, said on Friday that he had raised $1.6 million from donors, in addition to $10 million of his own money he has given to his campaign.Mr. Burgum has been using gimmicks like offering $20 gift cards to the first 50,000 people to donate at least $1 to his campaign, or the chance to win a Yeti cooler for a low-dollar donation, all in the hopes of making the debate stage. Support for Kenosha, WI protestors against police!
On 8/23/2020, police officers shot an unarmed Black man named Jacob Blake in the back, 7 times, in close range, and in front of his children. As of 5AM 8/24, Jacob Blake's relatives reported that he was alive, out of ICU and surgery, but still fighting for his life. Witnesses report Blake was breaking up a fight between two women when police tazed and shot him.
Kenosha Police have called a citywide curfew, and are reportedly attacking protestors with chemical weapons and using unmarked vehicles (thread with police scanner activity here). Gov Tony Evers deployed the National Guard against protestors while claiming to stand against excessive force and escalation against Black people in WI. The Milwaukee Freedom Fund made a statement on on FB around midnight, extending legal support to all Kenosha protestors.
Wisconsin Legal Aid:

UPDATE 8/24: Donate to support Jacob & his family here!
Please protect the identities of protestors in news you share (especially in images/video), and, if you are not Black, do not further traumatize Black people by spreading video of the attack without adequate warnings.
[Image Description: A photo of a 29 year-old Black Man, Jacob Blake, with a goatee and shoulder-length braids, hugging his 4 children and smiling next to a fountain or monument at night. 2 screencaps of a Milwaukee Freedom Fund Facebook post made around midnight on 8/23/20. They read as follows:
We are saddened and angered to hear of the police once again shooting a young Black man, especially a young father that is reported to have stopped a fight from escalating before being gunned down. Milwaukee Freedom Fund wants to extend our support to protesters in Kenosha. Our request help form is here: https://bit.ly/MFFArrestHelp. We help with bail/tickets/connecting protesters to lawyers. Info for protesters:
Make sure there is someone outside of protesting that knows your legal name and birthday so we can look you up if we need to.
If you are arrested- DO NOT TALK about what happened while in jail unless you are talking to your lawyer. Phones and visiting rooms are recorded.
You have the right to remain silent and ask for a lawyer.
Most arrested protesters are ticketed and released that process can take hours. If someone is detained, their bail is set and charges are read usually the first time they see a judge. In Milwaukee, thatâs been a few days. Once bail is set we can help pay it, if youâre given a ticket for protesting we can help pay that too, if you need a lawyer we can do our best to set you up with one. *We are not lawyers and we cannot go to precincts directly. We are volunteers who will help the best we can.
Edited to include: This post has gotten a lot of attention and some folks may be unfamiliar with MFF. Please know we do not reserve calls for justice for âperfect victimsâ and we see bringing out a personâs history as attempts to silence and minimize. If several police officers canât arrest a person without shooting them several times then that is the issue we need to address. The police are not meant to be judge, jury and executioner. Keep focused. Info we have on what happened: The young man with his children is a 29 year old father named Jacob Blake. He was tasered and shot in the back 7 times today by police officers in Kenosha, Wisconsin. There is a video of the entire incident, but we will not be posting that footage here. There was no point and time that a firearm should have been pulled, let alone this man be shot 7 times, in the back, while trapped by his vehicle. His condition is unclear. Varying reports at this time. If there are additional actions to show up for or links to support his family please let us know. https://facebook.com/events/s/community-unity-accountability/710234002864196/?ti=icl]

âPerfect stormâ swirls as Canadians face hot inflation, rising rates (Reuters) At a warehouse on an industrial stretch in Ottawa, giant metal crates of donated groceries are piled high as volunteers sort canned goods, pasta and other foods to be distributed to pantries around the Canadian city. Demand has surged 33% at the Ottawa Food Bank from pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels, with visits up as spiraling grocery, gas and rent prices, along with fast-rising borrowing costs, leave more Canadians struggling to make ends meet. âWe are absolutely seeing more people,â said Rachael Wilson, chief executive of the Ottawa Food Bank, adding the organization is now spending C$6 million ($4.4 million) a year on food, up from C$2 million pre-pandemic. âThatâs because the cost of food has risen ... but also because of the number of people that are turning to a food bank right now,â said Wilson. âIt is unfortunately a perfect storm.â Canadaâs headline inflation rate has eased to 6.9% from a peak of 8.1%, but food costs are still accelerating.
Poll workers train for conflict (AP) Milwaukeeâs top election official surveyed about 20 poll workers gathered in a classroom in a city building stuffed with election supplies, then spoke frankly about the tense environment they may face next week when the city expects more people watching their work than ever before. âSo who is worried about observer disruptions?â Claire Woodall-Vogg, head of the Milwaukee Election Commission, asked the group. âWho has read things or heard things on the news, and youâre a little nervous? I am. Iâll raise my hand,â she said, smiling. A few of the workers raised their hands, too. Theyâre not alone in their concern: Election officials across the country are bracing for confrontational poll watchers fueled by lies about the legitimacy of the 2020 election spread by former President Donald Trump and others, even after Trumpâs loss was upheld by repeated reviews, audits and recounts, and courts rejected legal challenges.
Brazilâs brash President Bolsonaro mum after election loss (AP) In Brazilâs capital on Monday, the silence was deafening. Nearly a full day after President Jair Bolsonaro lost his bid for reelection, the usually brash right-wing leader had neither conceded defeat nor challenged the results of the countryâs closest political contest in more than three decades. Bolsonaro hadnât spoken a word to reporters camped outside the official residence or the supporters who regularly gather nearby. Nor did he post on his otherwise prolific social media platforms. The only sign of protest came from Bolsonaro-supporting truckers who blockaded some roads across the country.
With Western Weapons, Ukraine Is Turning the Tables in an Artillery War (NYT) On the screen of a thermal imaging camera, the Russian armored personnel carrier disappeared in a silent puff of smoke. âWhat a beautiful explosion,â said First Lt. Serhiy, a Ukrainian drone pilot who watched as his weapon buzzed into a Russian-controlled village and picked off the armored vehicle, a blast that was audible seconds later at his position about four miles away. The war in Ukraine has been fought primarily through the air, with artillery, rockets, missiles and drones. And for months, Russia had the upper hand, able to lob munitions at Ukrainian cities, towns and military targets from positions well beyond the reach of Ukrainian weapons. But in recent months, the tide has turned along the front lines in southern Ukraine. With powerful Western weapons and deadly homemade drones, Ukraine now has artillery superiority in the area, commanders and military analysts say. Ukraine now has an edge in both range and in precision-guided rockets and artillery shells, a class of weapons largely lacking in Russiaâs arsenal. Ukrainian soldiers are taking out armored vehicles worth millions of dollars with cheap homemade drones, as well as with more advanced drones and other weapons provided by the United States and allies. The Russian military remains a formidable force. Still, there is no mistaking the shifting fortunes on the southern front.
Russiaâs security service works to subvert Moldovaâs pro-Western government (Washington Post) When thousands of protesters gathered last month outside Moldovaâs presidential palace calling for the countryâs pro-Western leader to step down, the man behind the demonstrationâan opposition party leader in exile in Israelâsoon received plaudits from Moscow. One senior Russian politician praised the protest organizer, Ilan Shor, as âa worthy long-term partnerâ and even offered the Moldovan region led by Shorâs party a cheap Russian gas deal, according to Shorâs press service. Referred to as âthe young oneâ by Russiaâs Federal Security Service (FSB), the 35-year-old Shor is a leading figure in the Kremlinâs efforts to subvert this former Soviet republic, intelligence documents and interviews with Moldovan, Ukrainian and Western officials show. The documentsâpart of a trove of sensitive materials obtained by Ukrainian intelligence and reviewed by The Washington Postâillustrate how Moscow continues to try to manipulate countries in Eastern Europe even as its military campaign in Ukraine falters. The FSB has funneled tens of millions of dollars from some of Russiaâs biggest state companies to cultivate a network of Moldovan politicians and reorient the country toward Moscow, the documents and interviews indicate.
At Least 140 Killed in India as Suspension Bridge Collapses (NYT) At least 140 people were killed after a century-old pedestrian bridge collapsed in the western Indian state of Gujarat on Sunday evening, sending hundreds plunging into the Machchhu River, officials said. About 350 people were on and around the bridge, a major tourist attraction, at the time of the collapse, said Brijesh Merja, a minister in the Gujarat government. A large number of those who died were children, women and older people, according to officials. The bridge collapsed four days after it was reopened to the public and about seven months after the start of renovation work. Built in 1880, during the Victorian era, it is about 755 feet long.
Shanghai Disney shuts over COVID, visitors unable to leave (Reuters) Shanghaiâs Disney Resort abruptly suspended operations on Monday to comply with COVID-19 prevention measures, with all visitors at the time of the announcement directed to stay in the park until they return a negative test for the virus. The Shanghai government said on its official WeChat account the park was barring people from entering or exiting and that all visitors inside the site would need to await the results of their tests before they could leave. Anyone who had visited the park since Oct. 27 would need to test for COVID-19 three times in three days, it said. Shanghai reported 10 locally transmitted cases for Oct. 30, all of which it said were people without symptoms.
In Xiâs China, even internal reports fall prey to censorship (AP) When the coronavirus was first detected in Wuhan in late 2019, reporter Liao Jun of Chinaâs official Xinhua News Agency told conflicting stories to two very different audiences. Liaoâs news dispatches assured readers the disease didnât spread from person to person. But in a separate confidential report to senior officials, Liao struck a different tone, alerting Beijing that a mysterious, dangerous disease had surfaced. Her reports to officials were part of a powerful internal reporting system long used by the ruling Communist Party to learn about issues considered too sensitive for the public to know. Chinese journalists and researchers file secret bulletins to top officials, ensuring they get the information needed to govern, even when itâs censored. But this internal system is struggling to give frank assessments as Chinese leader Xi Jinping consolidates his power, making it risky for anyone to question the party line even in confidential reports, a dozen Chinese academics, businesspeople and state journalists said in interviews with The Associated Press.
South Korea begins probe into deadly Halloween crush (Reuters) South Korean investigators combed footage on Monday from more than 50 state and private closed-circuit TV cameras as well as from social media looking for answers to how a surge in Halloween party-goers trapped in narrow alleys killed so many. As the country began a week of mourning, the death toll climbed to 154. Another 149 people were injured, 33 of them in serious condition. Tens of thousands of revellersâmany in their teens and twenties and dressed in costumeâhad crowded into narrow streets and alleyways of the popular Itaewon district on Saturday for the first virtually unrestricted Halloween festivities in three years. Chaos erupted when people poured into one particularly narrow and sloping alley, even after it was already packed, witnesses said. On Monday, people laid white chrysanthemums, drinks and candles at a small makeshift altar off an exit of the Itaewon subway station. Jung Si-hoon, a retiree, placed an old wooden cross at the altar, saying nothing could be done to bring back all the young people who had died. âThose poor people, all at similar ages to my grandchildren... What more should we say? We should pray for them and wish they rest in peace,â he said.
Iran charges female journalists who helped break Aminiâs story with being CIA spies (Washington Post) The two female Iranian journalists who helped break the story of Mahsa Amini, the 22-year-old Kurdish Iranian woman whose death in the custody of the so-called morality police last month sparked a nationwide uprising, were formally accused late Friday of being CIA spies and the âprimary sources of news for foreign mediaââthe former a crime punishable by the death penalty in Iran. Journalists Niloofar Hamedi and Elahe Mohammadi have been held in Iranâs notorious Evin prison since late September as Iranâs clerical leaders have struggled to contain an outpouring of public anger and protests calling for their overthrow. In the joint statement sent to Iranian media late Friday local time, the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and the intelligence agency of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, the highly-feared guardians of Iranâs security state, accused the CIA of orchestrating Hamedi and Mohammadiâs reporting, and said âallied spy services and fanatic proxies,â planned the nationwide, leaderless unrest. Both Hamedi and Mohammadiâs top editors denied the charges Saturday and said the journalists were only doing their jobs. âWhat they have referred to as evidence for their charges is the exact definition of journalistsâ professional duty,â the Journalist Association of Iran said in a statement Saturday.
Tight race in Israel (AP) Israeli voters appear to be hopelessly deadlocked as the country heads to elections once again on Tuesday, with opinion polls saying the race is too close to forecast. Former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who governed for 12 years before he was ousted last year, is asking voters to give him another chance, even as he stands trial on corruption charges. The current prime minister, Yair Lapid, has billed himself as a voice of decency and unity. He hopes his brief term as head of a caretaker government has shown voters that someone besides Netanyahu can lead the country. In Israelâs fragmented political system, neither Netanyahuâs hard-line Likud party nor Lapidâs centrist Yesh Atid is expected to capture enough seats in parliament to form a new government. Instead, each hopes to secure the required 61-seat majority in the Knesset, or parliament, with the support of smaller political allies. If neither succeeds, Israel could soon be facing another election, after already holding five votes in under four years.

How To Give Your Car To A Vehicle Donation Milwaukee Charity
A car or any other vehicle is not one that you can easily throw away. If you have a vehicle like a car in your garage or backyard in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, that you no longer use, you may have noticed that you are still spending for it in terms of insurance, maintenance, and other expenses. But you cannot simply throw it away or abandon it somewhere. It will still be under your name anyway, wherever you put it, and you might even get in trouble with the authorities if you simply abandon it anywhere because it would harm the environment. Some may try to sell the vehicle but this is a difficult and stressful process. But one possible solution is to simply give it to a vehicle donation Milwaukee charity like the one featured on the website www.Rawhide.org.
Giving Your Car to a Vehicle Donation Milwaukee Charity
Actually, it's the preparation that requires some work. This is because you need to choose a particular charity in your area. You cannot just give away your car to the first charity that you encounter and is willing to take your car as a donation. There have been some complaints regarding some organizations, so it is good practice to carefully choose your charity.
Also, you might want to consider your preferences too. So, when you do your online search, take a look at what each charity does and see if you think it is important. If not, don't include that charity in your list.
And then you will also need to check whether the charity is 501(c)3 registered before making vehicle donations to charity Milwaukee. Not only will you not be able to claim a tax deduction for your donation. If it is not registered as such, it is usually not doing real charity work but it may have a political agenda.
And you will also need to check the charity's efficiency. Experts advice not to give to charities with an efficiency of less than 80 percent. And finally, don't forget to check to ensure that the charity has a good reputation in the Better Business Bureau website or in a charity watchdog site.
The Process of Donating Your Vehicle
This is quite simple. You just need to contact the charity or you can just enter the details into an online form on their website. They will then contact you to schedule when to pick up the vehicle. After around 30 days, they will send you a tax receipt for use when you file for vehicle donations tax deduction Milwaukee.

When Making Vehicle Donations To Nonprofits Milwaukee Donors Need To Find The Best
It is indeed possible to donate your old vehicle to charity in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. If for some reason, you have finally decided to give away your car or any vehicle to charity, it is important to make sure that you are choosing the best nonprofit to receive your donation. This article points out that when making vehicle donations to nonprofits Milwaukee donors have to find the best.
Choosing the Best When Making Vehicle Donations to Nonprofits Milwaukee
The first thing to do is to find those charities or nonprofits that are doing charitable work that you believe is important. For instance, rawhide.org helps at risk youth by providing them with education and guidance so that they will mature into responsible adults instead of getting into a life of crime. If you believe that such work is important, then include Rawhide in your short list.
Next, you will need to check to ensure that the nonprofit is 501(c)3 registered because if not, the IRS will not allow you to claim a tax deduction for your donation.
And then there is a need to check on the reputation of the nonprofit. This can be checked on the Better Business Bureau (BBB) website. Take a look at the rating provided by the BBB for the organization and check to see if there have been any consumer complaints against them. If those complaints have not be properly resolved, don't include that nonprofit in your list.
And finally, check the efficiency of the nonprofit on charity watchdog sites. It is recommended to choose only those vehicle donation Milwaukee charities that have an efficiency of at least 80 percent.
Giving Vehicle Donations to Nonprofits
The process of giving a vehicle donation to a nonprofit is quite easy. You simply contact the charity that you have chosen to inform them and provide them with the details of your intended donation. Some charities like Rawhide even have an online form where you can enter the details of your vehicle for donation. And then they will contact you to schedule when they can pick up the vehicle. And around 30 days after the pickup, they'll send you a tax receipt.

Importance Of Vehicle Donations To Charity Milwaukee
People in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who have an old vehicle they no longer use and is just rusting there in their garage, may have heard of the possibility of donating their vehicle to charity. But what is the importance of vehicle donations to charity Milwaukee tht residents can use as reasons for donating their vehicle to a charity in the first place? Let's take a look.
The Value of Vehicle Donations to Charity Milwaukee
The most important value of vehicle donations to charity Milwaukee is that you get to help a particular charity finance its charitable works. In effect, you have made yourself a part of the effort to help those particular people. For instance, the charity may have the mission of guiding and educating at risk youth so that they may not turn to a life of crime but instead become productive citizens of the community. By making your donation, you have contributed significantly to this effort, which should make you really feel good about yourself.
In turn, feeling good about yourself boosts your self-confidence and self-esteem, which will lower your risk of depression. This can and often will have a positive effect on your physical health. What this means that a supposedly selfless act like vehicle donation Milwaukee will actually have many benefits for the giver.
Another important value of a vehicle donation is that you are allowing the vehicle to be recycled, which would be good for the enironment. If it is just sitting in your garage or yard, it might be dripping oil on the ground and its various parts could be rusting and deteriorating and pretty soon, its toxic components may be thrown away somewhere where they may do some damage to the environment. Donating it precludes such possibilities.
The Benefit of the Easy Donation Process
An important benefit that we should not ignore is that the donation process is actually very easy, especially when compared to the stressful process of selling the vehicle. You simply contact the charity and provide them with the details of your proposed donation. Later on, they will contact you to arrange for the pick up of the vehicle. And around 30 days later, they will send you a tax receipt.

Kenosha shooting: Fresh protests after Jacob Blake shooting

Police and demonstrators have clashed for a second night in Wisconsin after the officers shot a black man on Sunday.
Jacob Blake is reportedly in a stable condition after officers shot him multiple times as he tried to get into a car in the city of Kenosha.
Protests erupted in the city soon after, and have now stretched into a second night.
Governor Tony Evers has called up the National Guard to aid local police.
In a press release, Governor Evers said the âlimited mobilisationâ â made at the request of local officials â was to help law enforcement âprotect critical infrastructureâ and make sure people can demonstrate safely.
âEvery person should be able to express their anger and frustration by exercising their First Amendment rights and report on these calls to action without any fear of being unsafe,â he said. A curfew came into effect at 20:00 local time (01:00 GMT), to last until 07:00 on Tuesday.
The governor also called a special session of the state legislature on 31 August to discuss a package of laws announced earlier this year on accountability and transparency of the police.
Mr Evers announced the legislation in the wake of the police killing of George Floyd in the neighbouring state of Minnesota. His death in May highlighted police brutality and racism in the US and sparked protests around the world.

Whatâs the latest from Kenosha?
Reports suggest up to 200 members of the National Guard were to be deployed on Monday as demonstrators turned out for a second day.
Earlier in the day some protesters tried to force their way into Kenoshaâs public safety building, demanding those officers involved in the shooting on Sunday be arrested. A door was broken off its hinges before officers in riot gear used pepper spray to disperse the crowd.
Later there was a confrontation at the county courthouse as the curfew came into effect. Some demonstrators threw objects at officers dressed in riot gear outside.
Hundreds of people marched on police headquarters on Sunday night to demonstrate against the shooting.
Vehicles were set on fire and protesters shouted âwe wonât back downâ as officers used tear gas to try to disperse the crowds.

Governor Evers also said there would be a special legislative session next week to discuss laws he announced earlier this year on police accountability.
Lawmakers âhave failed to actâ in the two months since he announced the âcommonsense policiesâ, the governor tweeted.
âI am urging the Legislature to rise to this occasion and give this special session the urgent and productive effort this moment demands and that the people of Wisconsin deserve,â he wrote.
What do we know about the shooting?
Kenosha Police Department said the âofficer involved shootingâ happened shortly after 17:00 on Sunday. It added that officers had provided âimmediate aidâ to Mr Blake, who was taken to a hospital in Milwaukee in serious condition.
In video footage shared on social media, three officers can be seen pointing their weapons at a man identified as Mr Blake as he walks around a parked SUV. As he opens the door and leans into the car, one officer can be seen grabbing his shirt and opening fire. Seven shots can be heard in the video, as witnesses shout and scream.

Image caption Further demonstrations are expected in Kenosha on Monday
The police said officers had been responding to a âdomestic incidentâ but gave no details about what led to the shooting. It is so far unclear who called police and what happened before the video recording began.
Civil rights lawyers Ben Crump has announced he is representing Mr Blakeâs family. In a statement released on Twitter he said the 29-year-old father of three âwas helping to de-escalate a domestic incidentâ at the time.
Mr Crump said the officersâ âirresponsible, reckless, and inhumane actions nearly cost the life of a man who was simply trying to do the right thingâ.

Wisconsinâs Department of Justice is investigating the incident. The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave and a petition calling for them to be charged has garnered tens of thousands of signatures.
Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden on Monday released a statement calling for a âfull and transparent investigationâ of the shooting.

Governor Evers also condemned the shooting, saying Mr Blake âis not the first Black man or person to have been shot or injured or mercilessly killed at the hands of individuals in law enforcement in our state or our country.â
But the Democratic governor has faced criticism for this response. Pete Deates, head of Kenoshaâs police union, said Mr Eversâ statement was âwholly irresponsibleâ and said people should wait until all facts are known.

Top Reasons For Residents To Donate A Car Milwaukee
If they want to do something really meaningful for the less fortunate, residents have realized that they can donate a car Milwaukee. Since a vehicle is a high value item, however, and most people would prefer trading them in toward the cost of a new vehicle. So what are some of the top reasons why you should consider a donation instead?
1. When They Donate a Car Milwaukee, Donors Help a Charity
The most obvious reason to make a car donation is that it helps the less fortunate. Charities like this donate a car Milwaukee charity, for instance, use such a donation to raise funds to be used for helping at risk youths and their families to turn their lives around. This, in turn, will have a positive effect on the community as a whole, because those at risk young people become contributing, productive adults later on in life. The donation will go a long way towards providing them with the help they need and the donor will ultimately benefit from that as the community improves.
2. Donating a Car Is Easier than Selling It
The next reason is that making a car donation is almost completely hassle free. Pick a charity, let them know you want to donate, have it picked up (or drop it off), and that is all there is to it. There will be no need to advertise, answer questions from "interested" parties, allow people to test drive your vehicle, deal with time wasters, or to haggle on the price.
3. Donating a Car Helps the Donor
While you will not be given any money for donating your car, you will still benefit from it financially. So long as you donate to a charity that is 501(c)3 registered, you can itemize your tax return and deduct the value of your donation from you taxable income to reduce your tax due. Simply, this means that those who want to give away their vehicles can donate a car for tax deduction Milwaukee. Naturally, there are some rules as to how much you can deduct and the proof that you have to supply for the value that will deducted, but that is easy because a good charity will send you a tax receipt that includes all those details. Thus, what it means is that you do have more disposable income, which is almost the same as being given money.

How To Give Vehicle Donations To Nonprofits Milwaukee
For those who have an old vehicle in their garage or driveway in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which they no longer use because it is now breaking down too often, they can either sell it or donate it. Selling the vehicle could be a good option if you have the time and energy to advertise the vehicle and then answer phone inquiries, and then show the car to those who are interested. Just remember that it may take some time before you can find someone who would be willing to buy it. This article looks at how to give vehicle donations to nonprofits Milwaukee, Â such as Rawhide.org.
Steps in Giving Vehicle Donations to Nonprofits Milwaukee
The first step in giving vehicle donations to nonprofits Milwaukee is to contact the chosen charity. Such charitable organizations usually have an online form on their website where you can enter the details of your proposed donation. Next, they will contact you and arrangement for the pick up of the vehicle at a time and date that is convenient for you. And finally, you simply wait for the tax receipt to be sent by the charitable organization. The charity will usually send the receipt around 30 days after the vehicle was picked up. You will be using this receipt in claiming your tax deduction when it comes time to file your tax returns.
Claiming a Tax Deduction as a Result of Your Vehicle Donation
The government wants to encourage people to donate their vehicle to charity, and the way they motivate people is to allow donors to claim a tax deduction based on the value of the donated vehicle. Take note that if the vehicle was sold by the charity for less than $500, you will be able to use the fair market value of the vehicle as tax deduction, but not to exceed $500. If it was sold for more than $500, you can deduct the actual amount that the vehicle was sold for. In the event that the vehicle was worth more than $5,000, you will need to submit an appraisal attesting to that value made by an independent appraiser.

Finding the Best Charity to Donate a Car Milwaukee for Donors
Helping those in need is something that people typically tend to do whenever possible. However, in many cases, we feel that what we can do is simply not enough. While an hour of our time or a small donation is always appreciated, we tend to feel that the help provided is minuscule. If you do want to do something that makes a difference, you could consider donating your old vehicle. Doing so, however, means that you also have to find the best charity to donate a car Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
How to Find the Best Charity to Donate a Car Milwaukee Donors Can Trust
A lot of people think that finding the best charity means finding the best cause. However, there is no such thing. What makes a good cause will depend entirely on your personal beliefs and interests. However, there are a couple of things that all good charities should offer:
They should be 501(c)3 registered, which means the IRS recognizes them as a charity. It also means you are allowed to deduct the value of your donation from your taxable income.
They should have an efficiency rating of at least 80%, meaning that 80% or more of the money they collect actually goes directly to their service users. You can check this with Charity Navigator.
They should be highly rated as an organization and not face numerous complaints or lawsuits, something that you can check with the Better Business Bureau.
They should actually be a charity and not a third party organization that advertises on their behalf and only passes some of the proceeds on to them.
How to Donate a Car to Charity
Now that you know how to find the best charity to donate a car Milwaukee donors can trust, it is time to understand the donation process. Because charities are so dependent on your kindness, they have made the system very easy, generally based on the established model of one Milwaukee charity, which was one of the first charities to accept these types of donations. Essentially, all you need to do is tell them that you have a donation, give them a little bit of information, and they will arrange to pick it up. Then, they will send you a tax receipt after that so that you can be credited for your gift to charity.
