hello! it's your 7kpp secret santa here and WOW that's some delicious piece of info! i love how in depth your response is! with that said... *puts on interviewer hat* another round of questions i would like to ask are:
what are nayeli and lien hua's roles during week 5's theatrical, and what are their thoughts about it as the theatrical descends further into a charade of what it's supposed to be?
did nayeli and lien hua give anything to their SOs and if yes, what did they give (i don't wish to assume that they gave their SOs the best gifts from the options in the game) and how are their letters like? (e.g. lengthy paragraphs, legibility of their handwritings, ink stains on their letters etc.)
not really relevant to the gift itself, but why did you choose the names "nayeli" and "lien hua" for them, and why did you choose yellow/orange and green/white for their colour schemes? p.s. i love their designs!
thank you for reading, sorry that this time is more rambly!
no thank you for all your questions!! it's been really fun to ramble about my girls a bit 🩷
1. Oh god the theatrical :') After the trial, Lien Hua was absolutely drained and overwhelmed so the moment the theatrical came up she was just "oh fuck no". She immediately beelined for the backstage work before Jaslen was even halfway through explaining the main character roles. Still, she does most of the delegate herding/"please get your shit together" speeches because of her sense of responsibility, but she's not really enjoying it at all. She doesn't feel like it's proper to host something like that after everything that happened but wouldn't voice it openly.
Nay meanwhile jumped in on the acting because a) it's silly and fun and b) she doesn't really want to think about the trial and everything that happened there anymore, it really shook her up. Sharp-tongued Vienna was a perfect fit for her and she even got to tease Blain on stage a bit so all in all a great opportunity. She's great at improvising and has a lot of presence + she gets along with Zarad well so it was fun to play together. And she totally jived with the pirate chicken attack.
2. Gifts! :3 Lien Hua likes her gifts to be practical, useful. Part of is her personality, part of it is because it's less emotionally vulnerable to give something that another person can use (no matter their feelings towards the source) rather than something that would only have value based on the recipient's relationship with her. She absolutely overthinks stuff like this.
During the Summit, she'd probably want to give Jarrod something he could use but that'd also encourage his growth. I can see her getting him a small and good quality leather journal, thinking that since he has so many (usually negative) opinions on everything, he could use a place to write them down instead of bellowing them to the world. Of course she wouldn't frame it like that, she'd make it into something much more ego-stroking and say it's for recording aaaall his victories and successful hunts and thoughts because someone like him must have soooo many of them to share wink wink.
Nayeli's a bit more chill about gifting, she just enjoys seeing people's reactions to whatever she saw that made her think of them. She also likes her gifts to feel like treasure so they usually come with a tale about how she found it.. or some embellished backstory she made up on the spot to entertain. Blain loves beautifying himself so it'd be super obvious to get him something in that vein, and lucky for him Nay loves sparklies too so she'd get him some pretty accessory like the cravat pin mentioned in game. Coupled with a cheeky but effusive letter with tons of extremely blatant praise.
Handwriting-wise, it's kind of a funny contrast in a way. Nay's dad was very big on calligraphy practice and all that so even though it was boring for her all these hours spent on practicing made it so that Nay's handwriting is actually really nice and legible, you wouldn't think it belongs to her at first. The letters are well-formed even though they might have a bit of a forward slant when she writes fast (which is often), she also adds little flourishes here and there, if you're really observant you'd notice it reflects her mood too, she presses her pen hard if frustrated or irritated. Her letters are very stream of consciousness, she doesn't really compose them before hand unless it's really important/official.
Lien Hua's handwriting is very efficient, not a great feat of calligraphy but not illegible. It's somewhat nicer when she writes in Jiyeli, but in general its the kind of handwriting you'd be happy to see if you borrowed study notes from someone. There's not much flourish, the letters are small and evenly spaced. Her hands tremble when she's extremely stressed or upset though, if you see her letters get wobbly it means things are really bad. She reads a lot of course so her letters sound nice, with long and thoughtful paragraphs. At the same time, she can be a bit warmer in her letters than in person. She's not always good at saying the emotional stuff openly.
3. This part might be a bit disappointing because I usually don't go very deep with the names and go with the flow of what feels nice / seems culturally appropriate.
Lien Hua was my very first character I played and her name mostly comes from me liking the sound and meaning for it and deciding to use it when I immediately got Jiyel and saw the cultural inspiration behind it. But it means "lotus" and sounds feminine so it works well for a daughter's name in a traditional family.
Nayeli's name I put slightly more thought into! It actually means "I love you", and the love you feel in the Pirate!MCs family, on all sides, is so touching that I wanted it reflected in how they named their daughter.
Design-wise, Lien Hua was actually supposed to be wearing mainly pastel pink in the original iteration but it didn't feel right so I played around with colours until I got something that works. Also, her dress is heavily based on an ao dai, though with a skirt to make it more princessy. She'd absolutely wear pants to the Summit if she could get away with it, though.
Nay I wanted to be colorful and warm and also a bit chaotic and sparkly, I was inspired by this dress: https://pin.it/WUIqGZRGr so that's where the black/yellow combo started. The green in her jewelry is for some extra contrast, though I played around with different shades until it felt right ^^

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!
didn't do me justice enough?! no way!! i've been rereading everything on my tiny mobile screen over and over and over again since the moment you posted till now that i can finally sit down and type a proper comment - and then some more on ao3, just you wait :3c!!!! thank you so much for all the effort you put into everything, i am genuinely blown away by your generosity. i'd say you made my day but i think you just made my month.
in awe of all these little details we discussed shine through in little ways and ahhh you even drew lien hua too ;w; i love the warm candlelight atmosphere and all the titles on the books and the plate of mantous and the stars shining just outside of the window---!! thank you so much, i mean it.
also it's so nice my little musings could bring back a childhood memory for you!! if i had the option as a kid i'd probably buy them everyday, i never had the chance to try mantous until recently and i fell in love with the delicate flavour. i think i'm gonna cycle to the store they sell them at and get myself some this weekend (´┓`*)
also damn don't we all miss the prices of things from our childhood… i remember being able to find what amounts to just a few cents on the ground and fund myself a whole bag of chips. where have those times gone ;w;
Hey @milleart, I'm your Secret Santa for @fyeah7kpp's 7KPP Secret Santa 2024-2025
Above is a two chaptered story featuring Nayeli and Blain, and a short story featuring Lien Hua and to a small extent, Jarrod, respectively
I apologise for not using most of the information you've helpfully provided in your asks, and I thank you for bearing with me throughout the event
Below the cut is an extra featuring Lien Hua as I personally feel that I didn't do her or you justice enough
As a Chinese, I'm thrilled to learn that Lien Hua likes baos and that pandan mantous are Lien Hua-coded! Pandan mantous are actually what I ate for recess in primary school, granted it was mainly because it only costed 20 cents back then but it was also filling (for a child) and it wasn't too 'in your face' taste-wise
Please excuse my poor handwriting, my goal was to make it as messy as possible while also using a single stroke per character. I've never written in Traditional Chinese before so some characters barely resemble the actual characters...

hello! it's your 7kpp secret santa here! it's very interesting to see someone who pairs their mcs with blain AND jarrod! the doc included in the spreadsheet is much appreciated! *puts on interviewer hat* some questions i would like to ask are:
we all know that blain can't stand the mcs simply because she exists, but is there a deeper reason to why he loathes nayeli during the summit (apart from the blackmail 🤭)
from the doc it seems like lien hua doesn't seem to love jarrod in a romantic manner, so how would she answer someone who asks her what does she like about her husband?
happy holidays and a happy new year!
hiiiii anon, hope you're having a wonderful new year and thank you so much for putting the effort for ssanta ❤️ i guess i do have a thing for 'difficult' romances and messy relationships ahaha...
my reply ended up being a bit rambly so i put it under a read more, hope it all makes sense!!
re: nay and blain he could probably write a whole essay on 'why nayeli is the absolute worst' but to put it short, while blain's a petty person in general a lot of what makes nayeli nayeli is a direct antithesis to what makes blain blain.
nay's very playful and teasing and her little jokes and jabs poke blain just where it hurts the most aka his pride. he invests a lot of effort in his appearance and status but nay's irreverent humor just completely undermines that, she turns his vanity into a punchline and doesn't even have the decency to react appropriately cowed when he gets angry about it, she just finds it even more funny.
even when she's being honest with her praise he doesn't really know how to deal with it, it's praise so it makes him happy on some level but then it being nayeli immediately sours it, he doesn't know how to take it from someone like her and just chalks it up to sarcasm
on top of that she makes him feel irrelevant which is like the worst thing for someone whose entire identity is built on being the center of attention. this especially rankles him with ana because he tries SO hard to charm her but ana just doesn't give a shit. meanwhile nay makes some stupid little joke and ana's howling with laughter and slapping her knee. and it feels like every other time he finds ana nayeli's not too far behind. it's actually just because she gets along well with ana and they have fun spending time together but to him it's personal.
and to make things worse she just seems to be everywhere, always up to something. and she just doesn't seem to care about anything, about what people think - and that just doesn't compute to someone who constantly behaves as if the entire world was watching him. he doesn't catch on until much later that she thrives on being underestimated and seen as some silly airheaded hise weirdo - and by the time he does catch on, she's already got his secrets in her grasp.
---
re: lien hua and jarrod
lien hua's feelings on jarrod are kind of complicated and they don't really turn romantic until muuuuuuuuuuch later.
she finds him relatively straightforward in behaviour, while she enjoys the challenge of 4d chess conversations where everything has 7 different meanings, it's tiring to be constantly on guard and analyzing. meanwhile jarrod's someone who wears his heart on his sleeve and says what he thinks, even if it's rude or crass. and it's frustrating, yes, especially since someone in his position should KNOW BETTER but at the same time it means she doesn't have to guess. and that's nice.
he also has a lot of passion and knowledge about the few specific things he cares about and they might not be things lien hua super enjoys doing herself but it's interesting. it's more than just smacking things with a sword, there's strategy and quick thinking and graceful movements. there's tracking prey, understanding how it thinks, knowing its habits, waiting for the right moment to strike. she once asked about the kind of weapon he uses and whether it was a longsword or a greatsword and the answer was a rant so intensely autistic hyperfixation-like she was positively starry-eyed. she likes that side of him.
at the same time, there's also something she doesn't consciously realize or is unwilling to admit to herself, but for the longest time she sees him as a kind of project. she's been raised in a pretty isolated way, the summit has her learn to apply her knowledge and influence outside of books and debates and there's a huge power rush in that, in being able to influence someone like him, nudge him to be something better. it's very patronising and naive, even if it comes from a place of good intentions.
it's really only after shit goes completely sideways with the exile and the long and humiliating road back to jiyel when they're both thrust completely outside of their comfort zones that things really change for them and lien hua realizes her feelings aren't so… easily categorized. that it catches up to her that maybe you don't really put yourself between someone and an angry mob just because they're a funny project for you to fix. they're both completely out of their element - jarrod stripped of his power and title and everything he was taught to believe was owed to him, lien hua's unshakeable belief that no matter what at least she's SMART having completely blown up in her face because her machiavellian plan of fixing everything went to hell - and forced to lower their defenses and really rely on eachother, plus a nice heaping of trauma bonding on top and… things happen :3c
--
thank youuuu for reading all this and i hope it helps, if i can clarify anything further still just ask 🙏

don't mind the spam; just catching the blog up on whatever i've been doing for the past, uh, *checks calendar*, year ...
things have been mostly fine, some big ups, some huge downs, but in general fine; just really busy so online stuff has been harder to keep up with. i got a bit disillusioned with a lot of social media as well so i've mostly been art hermitting.
thanks a lot for sticking around if you have, and i hope you are all well.

hello! it's your 7kpp secret santa again! as always, forgive me for spamming your inbox with questions about your ocs! i really can't help but learn more about ocs in general ^_^|||
questions i wanted to ask are:
how bad is lien hua's eyesight without her glasses? is she the type to be bothered by smudges on them?
are lien hua and nayeli left or right handed, or ambidextrous?
what time do they usually wake up if left unattended? i don't know the time system in 7kpp, but given that birthdays are like us, maybe so is the time system?
in a modern au, what would their life be like?
given that nayeli doesn't have jasper, ria and sayra with her, what are her assigned servants and butler like?
hey hey o/ sorry for the late reply, work's been a bit busy. but good busy!! hope you've been doing fine too ~
Lien Hua is very nearsighted, things are quite blurry without her glasses and she feels very uncomfortable and helpless without them. During the exile she had a bad fall and broke her glasses and that was what finally caused her to openly break down crying. Smudges are annoying! Thankfully most of her robes have nice long sleeves she can use to polish her glasses, it's also a little moment for her to gather her thoughts.
They're both right-handed, though Nay's not terrible with her left hand, goes with her sleight-of-hand abilities... but writing, not so much.
Lien Hua's a morning person, if left to her own devices she would usually be up and about before 8. That also means she doesn't stay up very long most of the time! She gets talkative when sleepy, though, half-asleep Lien Hua is probably the most unguarded you're going to get her.
Nay's a 10AM sort of gal when not sailing but she's adaptable, on a ship you have to alternate watches so you don't always get to sleep great hours; she's used to getting as much as she can out of whatever time she gets! Master of naps in weird spots.
I'm not sure about a modern AU! I would really have to think deep about it, because so much of who they are is defined by the setting and the limitations placed upon them. So in a modern setting they would both be very, very different people - just not sure different how.

hello! it's your 7kpp secret santa again! just dropping by to ask one teeny question, what did lien hua do with jarrod before his welcome feast convo? i really don't think she will subtly insult him as funny as the image is XD
also not related to the gift:
what's lien hua and nayeli's highest stat?
oh and food!
as well as favorite constellations! (it's so hard to not like shiny dots in the sky for me, they're pretty!)
side note: i'm so sorry for asking question after question across so many asks, you can definitely tell that i'm not the organized type >_<|||
organisation is overrated! also your ask sent me on a super fun spiral learning more about chinese astronomy and astrology, so thank you for that ~
Lien Hua just stared him down. Thanks to her jiyeli heritage and upbringing she has that little disappointed asian lady stare that makes you feel like your entire lineage is currently wishing you hadn't been the fastest sperm. :')
Lien Hua's best stat is intelligence. Her worst are grace and self-defense. She trips a lot… Nayeli's best stat is cunning. Her worst is academics.
Lien Hua really likes all types of steamed buns, think baozi or goubuli, but her absolute favourite are these slightly sweet types of mantou buns, they're fluffy and just the right amount of flavour. I recently had the loveliest pandan mantou and I took one bite and was like 'this is Lien Hua food'. She also enjoys all sorts of fragrant teas. That's why she appreciates Jasper so much, he brews a damn good tea. Nayeli's huge on fresh fruit, growing up on a tropical island does that to you. As a kid she'd climb trees just to pick the yummiest, freshest mangos, genips and starfruits. …As an adult, she still does it. Nothing better than sitting on a tree branch, juice dripping down your chin as you enjoy the flavours. She also loves all sorts of aromatic meat dishes, think adding lemongrass, pineapple etc to give the flavour freshness. Yum ~
I don't know if the 7KPP world has the same constellations as ours, but if it does? The Purple Forbidden Enclosure, especially the parts that map to what's commonly known as Ursa Major. It contains the literary star, Wen Chang, associated with wisdom, learning, and the pursuit of knowledge - something Lien Hua deeply values. But the Big Dipper is there too - and that's what astronomers would use to mark the passage of time and seasons. It's practical and steady, unchanging~

hi! it's your 7kpp secret santa here! again! despite sending you an ask very recently! i'm so sorry for that but i have to know:
did lien hua tell the matchmaker that she wanted to be with jarrod in week 3, or is it only through a political marriage in week 6?
did nayeli bring up blain as a candidate to the matchmaker and how do you think she reacted if nayeli did ask about him?
no worries!!!! it's fun getting asks <3 thank you for being patient with all these rambly replies of mine~
the first part i'll reply with your follow-up ask in mind!
By Week 3, Lien Hua only tells the MM she's maybe looking for a political alliance. The entire scheme develops afterwards, when Sayra confides in her (I imagine it happens a bit earlier than in the actual game) about her true identity and worries for the future. And then Lien Hua's brain gears really start working. Because she's in a position to really help the person she's grown to care for deeply, and hopefully prevent a war that would devastate so many lives, including those of numerous friends she's made during the Summit. And Sayra, Sayra doesn't want a war, either. Not if she can help it. Enough people have died for the cause, and she's terrified of leading even more towards a bloody end. And Lien Hua's done things that many would consider impossible. And - that's Sayra's cynical side speaking - she's gathered allies that, if push comes to shove, might be turned to the rebel side if the plan fails. The alliance is convenient for the royals' side, too. Sure, she's not Jarrod's dream wife but they get along and she doesn't really care about him staying loyal to her. And she's into politics and all this boring crap he doesn't have the patience to deal with which means she can do it for him. And for Gisette, Lien Hua isn't a bad piece on the board. She's more than capable of keeping up with Gisette's schemes, but also nowhere near important enough politically that she'd be terribly missed if she would have to be eliminated. Plus she handles her brother well, freeing Gisette's somewhat from the duty of saving Jarrod from being a complete diplomatic disaster. And so, by week 6 it's agreed on.
Nayeli absolutely asked. And the Matchmaker, polite as ever, told her that she clearly must be some kind of a masochist because she refuses to believe Nay would be blind or stupid enough to be unaware of exactly what Blain thinks about her. :D

hi! it's your 7kpp secret santa here! just wanted to ask a question, so no need for the interviewer hat this time! i wanted to ask what are lien hua and nayeli's heights? i had this question ever since reading that jarrod and blain are the 2nd and 9th tallest delegates! it would be nice to know what are the delegates' exact heights, but aly telling us that jarrod is over 6ft is at least something to go on off!
side note, your 7kpp wiki is very much appreciated! thank you for all your efforts, i cannot for the life of me do coding so all the more props to you!
sorry again for the random ask, i just like learning about other people's ocs!
I knowwww right, I wish Aly could be a bit more specific at times >.< And more willing to give names to characters, you have no idea how much it rankles me that we know the name of Jarrod's mom but not his dad, or how only one of Zarad's brothers has a name. COME ONNNN
Lien Hua's 1.55m (which google tells me is 5'1 in feet?), so she's notably shorter than Jarrod but thankfully there are convenient ways to get him down to her level hahaha.
Nay's 1.65 (so I think 5'4?), I imagine she's just a little shorter than Blain?
And thank you!!! I hope it comes in handy for people. <3 The coding part wasn't terribly hard, you get a basic theme already set-up so it's mostly adjusting things.. which tumblr themes have taught me more than enough to do hahaha~

hello! it's your 7kpp secret santa again! your responses are very much appreciated! once again... *puts on interviewer hat*
if you could choose an object to represent lien hua and nayeli, what would they be and why?
if lien hua was from hise and nayeli from jiyel, how different would their lives/personalities be?
not relevant to the gift, but do you have any ocs from other backgrounds and if so, where are they from and what are they like?
thank you for reading! sorry that these questions are so odd, i like talking to fellow 7kpp fans about their ocs!
please never apologise for asking, i'm genuinely honoured that you want to hear about my ocs, past the bare minimum for the event!!! <3 so much of it i just rotate in my head like a rotisserie chicken so it's been really fun putting it all down into actual words, and it allowed me to conceptualise some more things i wouldn't have otherwise thought about!!
for an object that would represent them... lien hua took a lot of thinking, but i think maybe be a compass. she has her own internal sense of direction, of what's right and what's wrong, and like a compass, as a diplomat she tries to guide nations towards a better future. but a compass can only show you the way, it cannot make you follow it - and in the end, that's what what happened to her attempts to fix revaire. and even when she doubts herself, she is still seeking a path forward, still navigating the weight of her failures and hopes. but in the end, to use a compass, you need to know where you want to go - and that's what she'll have to discover for herself now. also, a compass was first used in china, which is one of jiyel's inspirations :D nayeli, i wanted to say a dagger first, but i felt like that'd be too on-the-nose. i think i'd choose a letter opener - something that's not exactly a weapon but not exactly just a mundane object, mirroring how she's pulled between what her father wants for her and what she wants for herself. it's practical, but it can be ornamental, and most of all: it's small and dangerous both, something you could easily underestimate. something easily concealed, like how she hides a lot behind that carefree and irreverent attitude.
an origin swap is SUCH a fun idea since so much of a character is shaped by their upbringing, environment, and so on. and the kingdoms are all so vastly different from eachother, the impact would be that much more visible! i think a hisean lien hua would have become an excellent navigator, her love for stars and astronomy would go so well with the skills she would need to navigate a ship (and think of how beautiful the night sky must look like in the middle of the sea...) and just like a navigator has the responsibility to lead the ship to a safe port, she would still feel the responsibility to do the same in politics. but unlike the jiyeli lien hua who works within the rules, hisean lien hua would be more relaxed, less reliant on frameworks like etiquette and much more willing to break rules outright, for the outcome she thinks is right. i think she might have gone to the summit out of her own volition, rather than making the best out of a bad situation. nayeli in jiyel, though… it might not be a hyperlogical society like the stereotype goes, but she'd still chafe there all the same. unlike hisean nayeli, she wouldn't have had the chance to experience the other life for herself, so she might be less openly rebelious because the idea of freedom would be so ephemeral rather than something tangible she had experienced and then had to leave behind. no matter her origins, nayeli struggles with feeling like she can be liked for herself rather than what she can become or represent, and in jiyel those worries would compound a lot. she doesn't have the discipline to go for the military, but the scholarly tradition of jiyel wouldn't be much better. she's emotional and she might lose a lot of debates just because of that - and win just as many by teasing her opponent and throwing them off-guard. most importantly, she most likely wouldn't have the chance to go to the summit because she wouldn't be able to fulfill the criteria to become one, to score perfectly in the exams. unless she did a little cheating, switching score cards around… or perhaps she'd just sneak onto the ship and try to find adventure and an enjoyable life there, full of excitement and disbelief both for just how daring the decision was.
nay and lien hua are very much my main characters, though recently i've been playing with an idea of a cynical and disillusioned countess, i don't have anything veeery concrete yet. the tomboy countess background feels ripe for a 'break of innocence' type of story, if that makes sense. from a happy and free, idyllic life with her father to the responsibility of taking over the lands and having to do things because of duty, because others are relying on you - while grieving the loss of your only parent. and all these suitors, interested only in the title, making you feel like a slab of meat on sale. ng+ lets you have a thing with woodly even if you're a countess and there's a part in his storyline where he tells MC something along the lines that necklaces feel like collars and he doesn't want to collar or claim MC, so he gives her a ring or bracelet, don't remember. but it could be an interesting dynamic, a no strings, no obligations sort of deal. at the same time i like the sad compromise aspect of emmett's political path and him and the countess are in very similar situations with needing to take over their respective estates, including making sure they can prosper beyond their lifetime. it could also be an interesting dynamic… aah, thinking thinking ~ … also i like the idea of countess raising pigeons for fun. coo.

i just saw the last part got cut off, that's what i get for using this cursed website on mobile :v
re: nay's assigned servants, i actually had them thought-out when i was planning her joint 'verse with lien hua! just need to decide on their names still, the hardest part as always ..
nay's butler is a newbie at this whole summit thing, he's doing his best but nothing really prepared him for the reality of it, and especially not for nay. he's earnest and well-mannered but if jasper's composure is made of iron, this guy's? wet paper. he's trying so hard to be professional but nay's too unpredictable and he doesn't have enough experience to handle things going off-script.
nay's two maids are practically night and day compared to eachother.
one is a stern and no-nonsense older woman who's worked several summits before. she feels she's seen everything at this point and has no patience for noble antics. she's unimpressed by just about everyone and isn't afraid to make a sharp remark though she mostly keeps her thoughts to herself. mostly. out of the three of her assigned servants, nayeli listens to her advice most.
the other maid is much younger and oh-so-excited for the drama of the summit. she knows she shouldn't be gossiping but...! she's all about the scandals, the romance, the secrets! she's a great source for a little behind-the-scenes info and she's absolutely stoked to hear some info from nay in return. she's good friends with the butler and thinks he should just relax a little.
