A sweet moment noticed on a walk in our neighborhood with Gazpacho yesterday 🌿#millayfloralstudies ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I've been lost and overwhelmed in thoughts and emotions these days, and I'm betting I'm not alone. More police brutality, more senseless deaths, and so many ongoing truths that I've been too privileged to feel the constant daily pain of all coming to the surface have continued to break my heart and have conjured feelings of true anger and distrust. Not to mention brand after brand, celebrities, and maybe even people we know personally disappointing us either in their silence or worse, in their hurtful words and actions. It's been a lot (and if I feel tired, imagine the Black community...). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ BUT, I am also reminded that while the president worked to de-humanize the LGBTQ+ community, the Supreme Court erected long-needed protections against discrimination of this same community. While Breonna Taylor's killers STILL have not been charged (how??), a law in her name has been passed. Police officers in other warrantless murders are slowly starting to be fired and charged with homicide. For certian, there is still SO MUCH imbalance and injustice, but I am trying to also be inspired and motivated by the small victories that remind us that: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -petitions are working -the protests are working -educating ourselves on (and showcasing) allyship, speaking up, and passing the microphone to the oppressed is working ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I truly think we are sitting in a pivotal moment of American history -- and while it is complicated and can make us feel overwhelmed -- it has been so helpful to me to remember in all the noise of terrible things continuing to unfold, there are moments of goodness, beauty, and progress happening too. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ xx https://www.instagram.com/p/CBlACn6JU_6/?igshid=1bdfq5lfwbnpd
