More Azriel angst for my amusement; a continuation of my post here:

The lies had been too easy to spin. Apparently, shitty fathers were universal amongst Illyrians. Azriel's father had been the exception, not the rule.

It was somehow more painful to admit that his father had been a good man. One of the few decent men in Illyria. He and his mother hadn't been mated, but they'd loved each other with all their heart, along with their three boys: Azriel, Jibril, and Israfil. And their niece, Gabriela, who had lived with them after Azriel's father Mikhil had killed his own brother after he discovered him abusing his wife. The wife did not survive, which left Gabriela to them.

Gabriela fell in love with a priestess from Sangravah with Autumn blood. Same-sex marriages were illegal for women in the Night Court, so they'd planned to hold their wedding ceremony in Sangravah and join the Autumn Court priestesses.

It was on one such visit that Beron had sensed his presence.

He'd taken him from his family who had been forced to leave knowing Azriel was stuck in the hands of one of the most notoriously cruel High Lords to ever rule.

"I'll give you a chance to submit to me willingly," Beron had murmured against his cheek, his hand possessively gripping his waist. "Before I take you by force."

Azriel had done the foolish thing. "I'll never submit to a monster like you," he'd snapped.

He'd been locked in the dungeons for that.

The place was cold and empty, and Azriel lived for many years in near-isolation. Well, as a shadowsinger, the darkness was a boon to him.

But every once in a while, he'd come. He'd rape him and brand his skin so that he'd never forget who he belonged to. Azriel cried and cried about it until one day he became too angry to cry. No, every ounce of sorrow transferred into visceral rage.

One day, his family came to rescue him. They had snuck in using their shadows. They broke him out of the cage and they were so close to a spot where they could disappear to the Night Court when they'd found them.

Azriel had forgotten the male was married with children. Children who came and slaughtered his brothers and his father.

Azriel had screamed as the most handsome of the four sons heartlessly drove a sword into Israfil's chest, keeping eye contact with Azriel as he'd done it. Then he'd gone silent with terror as the same man had seized his mother and pulled her against his body, pressing the sword to her throat.

"Return to Beron willingly and I'll let your mother go," Eris Vanserra had whispered to him. Even all these years later, Azriel had never forgotten it. Eris had been much younger then, Lucien not even born.

But he would never forget Eris's sword running through his brother or Eris's sword being held against his mother's throat.

 The wedding end of the week finished with an insane Pajama-afterparty which went on till dawn – and was brimming with vitality regardless of being the last occasion of the wedding long distance race!
