Sarah Moon is a French fashion photographer. Her theme for fashion photography is describe as soft, romantic and Melancholy. Her work is unusual to other and it is known to be dreamy with a vague narrative. I found her work very beautiful and I would like to see how she started up as a photographer and progressed into the fashion photographer she is now.

As a teenage Sarah Moon studied drawing then soon became a model in France. She became interested in photography and decided to do photography in 1970. Her first photograph she took was a portrait of her friends who happened to be a model her career started to grow from there. Not long after she started photography, she worked closely with Barbara Hulanicki of London clothing brand Biba. She was able to capture beautiful photographs for them for 20 years. Moon work started to appear everywhere. She worked with French Elle, Italian Vogue, Chanel and Comme des Garcons.  

Moon work focus a lot on her trying to express herself. She never tries to make a woman more beautiful while taking photographs as she believes they are naturally beautiful, and it is her job to work around the model. Moon never went to any art school, but her assistant “Mike Yavel” help her to convey her view into a photograph. She always tries to find her own voice to stand out from other which I think is so important as a fashion photographer.

·         2007: The Cultural Award from the German Society for Photography with Robert Delpire

·         2008: Prix Nadar

·         2018: Honorary Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society
