the two of them were certainly never supposed to cross paths - the red & white never got along, they were at war. their first encounter hadn't been the most friendly, he was not at all shy about the fact that he'd been sent there to kill her - but it never ended up happening. instead, some strange fascination with her seemed to grow. it was not allowed & she shouldn't have fed into it - truthfully, it wasn't on purpose. he liked her simply because of how different she was. hearing the knock on her bedroom window, she had been fast asleep - it should have been a bad sign that he was willing to show up at her heavily guarded home in the middle of the night. what became of her guards? still, she opens the window for him - she looks exhausted & still greets him with a smile. " shouldn't you be sleeping right now? "
HIS LOYALTY WAS WITH THE RED QUEEN, at least, according to his uniform. he was still wearing his red hearts, black knight armor when he came to visit her at her window. it took a fair bit of climbing to get there, but it was nothing that he wasn't accustomed to. sneaking out in the middle of the night was his only chance to see her. during the day, the queen would demand all of his attention for himself; feeding off of it, as if they had some romantic implications. but he was much more smitten by the white queen, something that the knave should have never felt. to them, she was the enemy. to him, she was grace. she was far more beautiful than anything else he'd ever seen before. accustomed to seeing the horrific abnormalities of those of the red court, she didn't have a single thing about her that was ruined. unlike himself, he fit right in with the queen of hearts; the only difference was that he hid his imperfections, not wanting them on display for everyone to see.
standing on the balcony outside of her window, he knocked on the glass. waiting to see the light turn on, she would notice that he was there soon enough. even in her night clothes, she was as beautiful as ever. SABU drew in a breath at the sight of her, reminding himself to remain calm about it. he wasn't there to frighten her. ❝ now, was the only time that i could get away. the queen sleeps. i wanted to come and visit you. your guards are quite pathetic. ❞ he mused, having taken out a few of them on the way there. he never left the castle without a sword on his hip. though, he hadn't needed to draw it when it came to handling them. they were just small hindrances to his main goal. ❝ i hope this isn't a bad time, i just wanted a chance to see you again. ❞ there was no time better for an affair than in the dead of night. they both knew what he was doing was wrong, but he had no way to change his affiliation. had he mentioned his infatuation with the white queen, it would be off with his head. he wasn't immune from the red queen's anger. it would have been a stake to her heart to know that he was vying for the other half.

𝐇𝐄 𝐓𝐑𝐔𝐋𝐘 𝐇𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐎 𝐀𝐃𝐌𝐈𝐓 𝐓𝐎 𝐀𝐍𝐘 𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐎𝐍𝐆 𝐄𝐌𝐎𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒, she would have never gotten him to admit to being jealous over a mere story from her day. mieko talked about the cashier in high esteem, just like she would have any one else who helped her out. the fear that she felt in public over the most minor of situations was not shared. SABU didn't fear having to approach someone who was simply doing their job. he lacked the ability to get so frightened over minor social situations. his voice didn't often shake, nor did it crack. he spoke at one baritone level, and he never tended to raise it when he got angry. that was one of his most frightening qualities, his ability to maintain a calm head when he was pissed off at someone. listening to her adoration for the man who had helped her during the day, he couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy. having wished that he didn't have such a busy day. if that was the case, he could have been the one that was there for her, instead of some random cashier at a store. they were programmed to be polite to any one that entered the door, but for some reason, the impression that it left on her had him feeling some type of way about it. squeezing his stomach tightly, making him feel nauseous as he read her texts.
she must have picked up on it, from whatever change of tone - or simple lack of ability to answer as quickly, because she had felt the need to apologize for her wording. he had already denied that he was jealous about it. though his words might have been more defensive than they were anything else, he was doing his best to seem as if he was content with her speaking on for longer than she needed to about a random boy that influenced her day. SABU never liked when she could catch onto his emotions, even if it was through text. he tried to keep everything as emotionless as he possibly could, even if it came off as rude when talking about her day. fumbling over his texts back, he knew he had been caught here. don't be dumb, i'm fine. it was a busy day is all, i'm tired. he stops for a moment and considers the rest of his reply, knowing that he is simply making up excuses here. keep telling me about how your day was, i was listening. his day was truthfully far from over, it was only about five p.m. at the moment, which meant that he had plenty more to deal with, depending on how competent that his men felt like being for the night. if things went off without a hitch, he wouldn't have to do anything, just a bit of paperwork. if they decided to make errors left & right, calling their boss for the solution, he would have a night full of talking on the phone, sorting out the details.
❛ you think i’m jealous? ❜
𝐉𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐎𝐔𝐒? 𝐇𝐈𝐌? the idea of it seemed so silly to her, she shouldn't have dared even bring it up. mieko loved to tell him about her day, that was nothing new between the two of them. it was every day, whether he asked or not, he got an in-depth story about how her day went - only today, it might have been more annoying to him than anything else. the long rant about the nice man at the store who had helped her went on for a little bit longer than she had meant, though it was really because she was glad. in public, doing things on her own, mieko always tended to be a little bit overly anxious. he had gotten long talks from her before about being happy over a particularly talkative cashier - but his tone had changed some when she was texting him now. it was always hard to tell with sabu, considering how bland he always was over text. at first, it was impossible to tell when he was mad at her & when he wasn't, when he had never been mad at her before. now, something just seemed off.
maybe her accusation that he was jealous was a little bit extreme, but she hadn't expected him to react so strongly. shooting the question back at her over giving her just a simple no - that was how she was all too aware she was correct. no matter how stupid it felt to assume he may have been jealous, it really seemed like it. when mieko was always so quick to respond to him, the amount of time she was taking now only proved he had intimidated her with his answer, but it wasn't even really that. any time he showed emotion through the way he usually acted - it was so shocking to her. she saw it as him being vulnerable with her. if she reacted the wrong way, he was going to pull away from her & she would never get to see this part of him again. getting emotional over her - even if now, it seemed a little scary... it was a good thing. what she wanted. i'm sorry, finally comes her response to him, likely the exact one that he expected from her. she was always quick to apologize, especially when it came to him. i must have been mistaken, you just seemed upset. how was your day? did something happen?

HE KNEW ABOUT THE WHITE QUEEN'S HATED FOR VIOLENCE, but it didn't resonate with him as an executioner. he was the type who handled all of the red queen's business. she would make demands of him left & right, and it was his job to see them through. he could never tell her 'no', out of the fear that he would be the next on the chopping block. though, there was the added fact that he did enjoy his job. he had no reservations for executing poor souls, even if their consequences didn't match the height of their actions. he didn't reciprocate the feelings that the red queen had towards him. quite the opposite. every time that she would mention her feelings towards him, he would clam up & become quiet. knowing what she did to the king, he couldn't allow himself to become hung up in a strange relationship with the woman who led. he would be her next obsession, and she would accuse him of liking everyone else more than her; until her paranoia ate her alive, and she ended up killing him too. he knew too well about the interworkings of her mind. too much that he couldn't allow himself to become entangled with her. that was why he was so interested in the WHITE QUEEN. she was pure, and hopeful. she didn't have all of the same flaws that the red queen possessed. she was something untouchable & holy.
❝ they are simply taking a nap, i promise that i have brought no harm to them. ❞ taking a step into her room. he didn't think twice about inviting himself in when she mentioned for him to enter. he had travelled a far way to get there, leaving his horse just outside of the gates. it would wait for him to return, even if that took the entire night. ❝ you have a very comfortable place here. i see that you don't take the color too lightly. ❞ her room was just as white as the entire kingdom, fitting for someone like @mieeko. he was an eye sore in her room, dressed head - to - toe in black. SABU didn't consider that he was making her lose out on sleep, he was accustomed to staying awake late into the night watching over the prisoners of their kingdom. tonight, he could only hope that they would be orderly. ❝ you invite me in , despite knowing who i am. does your kindness know any bounds? ❞ he says, finding himself lingering near the door for a moment. she wasn't dressed for a meeting, but he doesn't mind. he would have come to visit her at any time of the day. though, it was more dangerous to come when the queen was awake. he had little excuses for coming to the WHITE KINGDOM. he was much more accustomed to causing havoc, harassing the mad hatter. he was a violent, horrific man, but she welcomed him all the same.

HE DOESN'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT THE PRINCESS, no more than he has threatened her with giving him the identity of a JEDI that they are apparently housing on the premise. he was determined to get the information out of her one way or another, whether it was through horrific threats, or through gaining her trust. either way, he would get her to see that he was in the right here. there was no downside of selling this man out to him. he was with the EMPIRE, the side that their counsel was supposedly sided with as well. he was not an enemy to her, just the one that they were apparently keeping a well - kept secret. not so well - kept when the information had reached his ears & he travelled all the way out there to follow the trail. sitting with her outside of the garden, she lamented to him about how she had never seen the world outside of her own planet. she was not permitted to leave. she was asking him what it was like. not that he would offer any information that would entice her to leave. he had his own views of the world that were cynical & twisted. it was nice here on her planet, safe so long as they would weed out the traitor amongst their ranks.
feeling her head lean down on his shoulder, he stiffened up. this was outside of his realm of knowledge. they were not permitted to have interpersonal relationships. the entire point of their training was to be selfish, to take from everyone. he'd never given before. even if that giving was simple knowledge about another planet. ❝ i think your parents are right. you're safer where you are at. but if you want to know so badly, we were station in DAIYU before this. searching for someone important. ❞ leaning back on the bench, she shows no signs of removing herself from his shoulder. there is no fight to be had about it, dare he tell a princess to remove herself from him. there were certain things that even an inquisitor would not do. he could make empty threats in her direction, going out of line of his rank in the process. though, nothing that he could do was truly dangerous to her. she wasn't force - sensitive. he would have been able to feel that, it was an itching feeling when someone else around you was able to use the same powers as oneself. she was nothing more than a girl. ❝ DAIYU is ... unappealing. filled with lowlives and criminals. easy to get lost in. a large city. it's filled with bounty hunters and ... fake jedis. people who will take advantage of your kindness. ❞ his nose scrunches up beneath his mask, thinking of the encounters. they weren't all pleasant, not many wanted a hand in what they were doing. that, or they were fueled by greed. ready to help them at a moment's notice, for the right price.
❝ you should realize, princess. you have something good here. something that will stay good, so long as you give us the jedi. ❞

𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃𝐍'𝐓 𝐁𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐄𝐕𝐄 𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 𝐇𝐄𝐑, after everything that they had been though. she was still going on about how she wanted to be his friend. it didn't matter what kind of embarrassing situations that he put her through, even if he dumped water over her head in the bathroom stall, or pull her hair & pushed her around like she was no one to him. his teasing really didn't know much limits, anything to get his anger out in some way shape or form. it was certainly unfair to her, but she seemed unfazed by the lot of it. sabu almost wanted to ask her if she was a masochist, going through all of that torment just to tell him that she wanted to be his friend in the long run. he didn't accept friends, his parents didn't accept friends. his living situation was a bit different than the majority of the other kids at school. he wasn't able to bring home a girl & tell his family that it was only one of his friends from school. they would berate him & tell him that he put his whole family at risk. there was necessary precautions for why he wouldn't allow any one to get close to him. for the fear of them finding out what went on at home. no one would ever do anything for sabu's case. his father worked with the police when he saw fit. he was treated just as badly at home as he came to school and repeated back to the blonde girl - that much was obvious.
❝ don't be STUPID, why would the two of us ever be friends? ❞ thinking that it was blatantly obvious that there was a barrier between the two of them. this wasn't about a rich kid & poor kid situation, it was much deeper than that. sabu's family was only so wealthy because of the illegal business that they conducted; which they had long since made clear was going to be his responsibility the moment that he was old enough. there was no such thing as an escape for him. he didn't allow himself to find that reprieve in school, surrounding himself with friends; not only because he was naturally unsettling, but because it would have been false. the moment that he got home, all of that would disappear and he was back to his serious work with his father; having to act like he was double his age to cater to the audience. ❝ i don't need any friends, so just fuck off. you're just making a fool of yourself - who tries to beg to be friends with someone? are you really that pathetic? ❞ scrunching up his nose at her, he truly hated people who were so optimistic as herself. they had seen too much of the good in this world, and not enough of what he had to deal with.

you're the first person who ever took me seriously.
𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐎𝐄𝐒𝐍'𝐓 𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐄 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐃𝐒 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐃, knowing that he was the first who ever listened to her about her past relationship. her own father was blind to the torment that her daughter was going through, blinded by the fact that she had a fiancé. sabu is not so easily wooed by the promise of a relationship, and he could tell when something wasn't right. he never regretted giving mieko his phone number the day that they had met each other again, listening to all of her complaints about her supposed fiancé. if she needed someone to rely on, there was no one better than himself. he considered himself a man that got things done. if someone needed to be abolished, he was fully capable of making that happen. the treatment that she had received from him was below sub par. it was downright abusive, and he had listened to every bit of it. while, he may not have been the type of man who was capable of determining whether someone was a bad person or not; he could decide if they were hurting someone that was close to him. an enemy of his friend was an enemy of himself. as the yakuza believed.
❝ you don't believe that if you had been truthful to your father, he would have listened? he's a decent man, ❞ having met him a few times by now, he had his own ideals of what kind of man that her father was. the kind who had taken care of his daughter, and expected care in return. he wanted to see her with a man that had the means to provide for their entire family. not to say that he didn't care about his daughter; but he might have cared more about what his daughter could bring to their family. ❝ don't think too much on it. ❞ the last thing that he wanted was for her to consider her family to be someone negative to her. she hardly had anyone left; which meant that she had to make do with what she had. ❝ family will get you through everything. ❞ his own definition of family was warped. not those that he was related to, but those that answered to his words. the ones who worshipped him, hung on his every command. the ones who did what he asked of them. sabu had no real concept of family.

𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐒𝐓 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐘𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐀𝐓 𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐄, rare of him to let anyone stay in his own personal home. but their relationship was beyond that of what they had anticipated. her father had known she was coming over to stay, and she had no where else to go besides actually showing up to his house. which only left them with the option of playing things out as equally truthful as their lies were meant to be. allowing her to sleep in his bed with him, neither of them were necessarily against the aspect of sharing close quarters any longer. they had become much closer, since the incident where he had to stay over at her house. the only issue was that their sleep schedules did not align. mieko was tired long before sabu, and he did not want to keep her up all night waiting for him. allowing her the chance to fall asleep before him, he simply sat in bed next to her with some of his paperwork. it wasn't ideal to do work in bed, but he would make this exception just for her. it wasn't everyday that she was coming over to stay at his house.
with his paperwork in his hands, he felt mieko begin to stir next to him. she wasn't awake per se, but she moved around quite a bit in her sleep. it was something that he had grown accustomed to. having her glued by his side wasn't an unfortunate situation. a bit of company to go along with his work. lifting the paper up some when she began to stir again, sabu looked over at her. that's when she started to speak to him, calling out his name. for a moment, he almost thought that she was awake. it was almost two in the morning by then. maybe, she was scolding him for being awake looking at work. but that wasn't the case. she said his name a few more times, and he put the paperwork to the side.
brushing his hand through her hair, he tried to make it apparent to her that he was still there with her. that he hadn't gotten out of bed to put work before her. it was the most that he could do without waking her up from whatever dream that she was having. he could only imagine that he was included in it, seeing that she was saying his name so much. ❝ i'm right here. ❞ he mumbled, moving a few of her hairs.

𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐈𝐃𝐍'𝐓 𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃 𝐁𝐄𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐄 𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐈𝐃, otherwise he would have never let it slip from under his radar. he strived to look the most presentable when he was around mieko of all people. there was no reason for her to be involved with his life outside of their arrangement. he was trying to make her life more stable, the last thing that he wanted to do was bring more harm into her life. looking down at his hand where she was currently fussing over, his expression was hard to read. the majority of his face was covered with a face mask, hiding his features. his eyebrows didn't move, regarding the cut as no big deal. rolling up his sleeve some, the last thing that he wanted was to ruin his shirt with any blood. no use in ruining a good shirt. he didn't want to need to pester the dry cleaners about a blood stain. ❝ a mere oversight, my bad. ❞ his tone comes out as calm as ever. she is the one more panicked, as if he is not the one with a gash up his wrist. she must have noticed it when their hands had brushed against each other. for a moment, he thought that she was making an attempt to hold his hand. but instead, she was holding his hand up for closer inspection. a letdown by some regards.
❝ don't get it on yourself, it's filthy. ❞ muffled words from behind his mask, he's reaching into his pocket with his good hand. searching for anything that he can use to mop up the blood. any reasonable gentleman would have a handkerchief in their suit pocket - but he's not exactly the sight of a perfect gentleman. he might have tried to act the part, but there was still things that he got wrong. wishing that he wasn't so incompetent about it at the moment, he's searching his pockets for even a tissue. whatever would make the bleeding stop. it's a shame that they were in public and she notices this detail. for how long it had been going, he wasn't sure. some of the blood was already dried to his hand, a sign that this wasn't a new development. there was so many ways that he could have injured his hand throughout the day, he couldn't pinpoint the exact situation that would have been his downfall. the most that he can pull out of his pockets is a slip of receipt paper, nothing useful for fixing up a bloodied hand. sabu bites back his scorn. not wanting to have to ask her for help. anything but that.

— ONCE YOU'RE STRIPPED CLEAN, WHAT'S AT YOUR CORE?
animal intuition
loyalty is the saint you pray to. if you ever were stabbed in the back by your beloved, you'd probably apologize. to your enemies, you're fierce. to your allies, even fiercer. you cultivate a thick inner circle built on promises and devotion, fit only for the best of the best. it's impossible for most to even begin to dissect the type of person you are, owing to your unbreakable emotional walls and confusing philosophies. dream careers? body guard, movie star, unwitting pawn. don't let people get the best of that loyalty.
