goddamn I miss Detroiters
#this was the first time ive been back since i moved to minni a year ago#detroiters are literally just WAY more down to earth that midwesterners god i missed them!!!#midwest nice is definitely a thing but it also comes across as cordial/polite sometimes#also they make fun of me for talking loud there and im like yall just quiet af Detroiters make themselves HEARD#for all the chaos of the week it was refreshing to be around people who get loud and excited and emphatic when they talk#growing up my mom who was born and raised in the midwest proper used to talk about the cultural difference#between the midwest and metro detroit#and i sort of got it bc of interacting with her family like we have WAY more formal relationship with her parents than with my dads parents#who are both lifelong detroiters#but after living in the midwest for a year.....i do really get what she's talking about.......#it's weird bc on paper michigan kind of gets lumped in with the Midwest but detroiters don't consider ourselves midwestern#culturally we have a lot more in common with new englanders#and you can FEEL it if you travel to detroit versus the midwest proper it is crazy how different they are#//#personal
