I think one of the main things that kills me about Stancy in s4 (all of it kills me let's be real) is that the narrative leads us to believe that Steve (and Robin) hadn't talked/hung out/thought about Nancy since JULY like a full 8 months. It would be one thing if Steve and Nancy were shown to be friends but they aren't. He literally didn't seem to care about her in-between. And to make it WORSE Steve knows exactly why Nancy doesn't have any other close friends and couldn't be bothered to support her after Jonathan moved. Truly it feels like Steve confessed his "feelings" because Robin/Dustin/Eddie told him to settle down and wow Nancy was there.
