The TV Spoiler King

How successful could be someone who makes a living through his personal obsession? The TV Spoiler King,* or rather one of the most powerful voices in American showbiz (more or less), as Michael Ausiello has often been dubbed, has managed not only to earn a livelihood through television, which happens to be his personal obsession, but also to land a dream career in this business. As a child, he was bored of everything: he was bored in school, bored hanging out with his friends, bored playing sports, and bored going on outings and field trips. His everyday reality was Santa Barbara and Days of Our Lives, and he spent his Friday nights watching the dramas of Falcon Crest and Dallas (Ausiello has said that Friday night television is one of his happiest childhood memories). And when school got in the way of watching TV, he just enjoyed talking about it. It took him a little while to figure out that not everyone had the same interests as him, and not everyone got such pleasure out of TV show recaps and being invested in these characters. He describes these years as “innocent”, identifying himself as a couch potato (in other words, he spent much of his childhood glued to the TV set). Growing up, he began to realize that his future was going to involve television, in which he had delved and invested. But how could he manage that? After taking a few stabs at acting and playing an instrument, he began working as a TV critic for his college newspaper. Upon graduating from college, he began riding the elevator to success, landing a job as a media relations coordinator for Entertainment Tonight.   Next, he went back to print journalism, working in the sister publications Soap Opera Update and Soaps in Depth, for which he was able to interview several daytime television stars. As a result, his power increased and his ambition grew. In 1999, he joined TV Guide, where he spent eight years. His fame began to spread, helping him become friendly with many television producers, writers and actors, as well as with anyone who could share behind-the-scenes stories. In May 2008, he jumped to Entertainment Weekly (where he still works to this day), and a month later he created his own blog (http://ausiellofiles.ew.com), which features his weekly Q&A Ask Ausiello, wherein he answers readers’ questions about their favorite shows, delicately and humorously hinting at what’s to come without giving away the more juicy surprises. As a celebrity, he pursued his childhood dreams, making cameo appearances in a few of his favorite shows (it’s a pity, though, that Santa Barbara has been cancelled, because he would certainly enjoy making a brief appearance in that show), and, being a homosexual himself, supporting gay storylines (we really do need someone like him around here). Michael Ausiello’s story is a great success story, and could even be described as a Modern Cinderella Tale (which, in contrast to the fairytale and the various TV shows, happily keeps going on and on). Πόσο επιτυχημένος μπορεί να γίνει κάποιος που μπορεί και κερδίζει το ψωμί του λόγω προσωπικών εμμονών; Ο βασιλιάς των TV Spoilers* ή ακόμα καλύτερα ο φόβος και ο τρόμος της showbiz (σε ελεύθερη μετάφραση), όπως πολύ συχνά αποκαλούν τον Michael Ausiello, εκτός από την εξασφάλιση της επιβίωσης του έχει καταφέρει να χτίσει τη καριέρα της ζωής του πάνω στη δική του εμμονή, τη τηλεόραση. Ως παιδί βαριόταν τα πάντα! Το σχολείο, τους φίλους του, τα αθλήματα, τις εξόδους και τις εκδρομές. Ο κόσμος του καθημερινά ήταν η Santa Barbara και το Days of Our Lives ενώ κάθε Παρασκευή βράδυ “παρτάλιαζε” με τα δράματα του Falcon Crest και του Dallas (έχει δηλώσει πως εκείνα τα βράδια είναι από τις πιο ευτυχισμένες αναμνήσεις της παιδικής του ηλικίας). Ακόμα και όταν λόγω σχολικών υποχρεώσεων αναγκαστικά δεν μπορούσε να βλέπει τηλεόραση έβρισκε ενδιαφέρον στο να τη διηγείται. Του πήρε καιρό να καταλάβει πως οι άλλοι δεν συμμερίζονταν τον ενθουσιασμό του και δεν απολάμβαναν τις καθημερινές ανασκοπήσεις του για τη κάθε σειρά, για τη ζωή του κάθε πρωταγωνιστή της, αλλά εκείνη η περίοδος για εκείνον ήταν η “αθώα” του και χαρακτηρίζει συχνά τον εαυτό του τότε ως couch potato (κοινώς δεν ξεκολούσε από τη τηλεόραση). Μεγαλώνοντας άρχισε να καταλαβαίνει πόσο πολύ είχε εντρύφήσει και επενδύσει σε αυτό το κόσμο ώστε να αποφασίσει πως αυτό θα ήταν και το μέλλον του. Το θέμα όμως ήταν με ποιο τρόπο. Μετά από μερικές αποτυχημένες προσπάθειες στο χώρο της υποκριτικής και της μουσικής ξεκινάει να εργάζεται ως κριτικός τηλεόρασης στη εφημερίδα του πανεπιστημίου. Με την αποφοίτηση του περνάει αυτόματα σε άλλή πίστα, σαν συντονιστής δημοσίων σχέσεων στην εκπομπή Entertainment Tonight. Λίγο αργότερα ξαναγυρνά στην έντυπη δημοσιογραφία και συγκεκριμένα στα αδελφάκια περιοδικά Soap Opera Update και Soaps in Depth όπου πλέον είχε την ευκαιρία να πάρει συνέντευξη από κάμποσα αστέρια της καθημερινής τηλεόρασης με αποτέλεσμα η δύναμη του να μεγαλώσει και οι φιλοδοξίες του να διογκωθούν. Το 1999 ξεκινάει τη οκταετή συνεργασία του με το γνωστό περιοδικό TV Guide. Η φήμη του άρχισε να εξαπλώνεται τόσο ώστε να αποκτήσει πολύ καλές σχέσεις με τους περισσότερους τηλεοπτικούς παραγωγούς της χώρας, σεναριογράφους, ηθοποιούς αλλά και ανώνυμους καλοθελητές που θα μπορούσαν να έχουν στοιχεία για οποιοδήποτε τηλεοπτικό παρασκήνιο θα μπορούσε να του έχει διαφύγει. Τον Μάιο του 2008 πήρε μεταγραφή στο περιοδικό Entertainment Weekly (όπου έργάζεται έως και σήμερα) και ένα μήνα αργότερα απέκτησε το δικό του blog (http://ausiellofiles.ew.com) με highlight την  εβδομαδιαία στήλη Ask Ausiello όπου οποιοσδήποτε φανατικός τηλεθεατής μπορούσε να ρωτήσει ότι ήθελε για το μέλλον της αγαπημένης του σειράς και εκείνος να απαντήσει με ελιγμό και χιούμορ έτσι ώστε να καλύψει τους αναγνώστες του αλλά να μην χαλάσει και τη μαγεία της αγωνίας του τι θα γίνει μετά. Ως διάσημος πια μπόρεσε να εκπληρώσει και αρκετά απωθημένα του όπως το αρχικό του όνειρο την υποκριτική και να κάνει guest εμφανίσεις σε αρκετά αγαπημένα του σήριαλ (τι κρίμα που το Santa Barbara δεν προβάλλεται πια γιατί εκεί θα ήθελε πραγματικά να κάνει ένα πέρασμα) ή να μπορεί να “υποστηρίζει” μέσα από τις στήλες του τα gay storylines πολλών σειρών, καθώς και ο ίδιος ομοφυλόφιλος (αυτόν έπρεπε να είχαμε εδώ!). Η ιστορία του Michael Ausiello είναι το απόλυτο success story και θα μπορούσε να έχει το τίτλο Μοντέρνα Σταχτοπούτα (αν και σε αντίθεση με το παραμύθι και τα διάφορα σήριαλ ευτυχώς συνεχίζεται). Attention X-Philes everywhere: Christmas has come early.

Fox has released a new extended promo for X-Files Season 11 (bowing Jan. 3 at 8/7c) and it features not one, not two but three glimpses of Mulder spooning Scully in bed.

Series star David Duchovny previously teased to TVLine there are “definite intimations of hanky-panky” between the on-again/off-again pair in the 10-episode season (and he clearly wasn’t kidding). The above featurette also addresses Season 10’s cliffhanger ending, with series creator Chris Carter promising “a really interesting dramatic solution” to the crisis raised in the finale.

Duchovny notes that increasing the episode order from six to 10 this season has allowed the show to focus more Mulder/Scully “partnership… and banter.” Adds Gillian Anderson: “”It feels more like quintessential X-Files this season.”

i know you're not a big batcat fan but i saw your ask and i just wanted to share that i was really excited to see that they've "aged" up their PG dynamic to clear, adult UST. add that to the toxicity of their relationship which will only get worse as they get older and closer to their comics personalities, i can't wait to see where the show takes them. this might sound so weird but i hope we get to season 6 so bruce's actor will be old enough (18) for a network TV batcat sex scene. lol.

JK, but I actually do really love them, both in the comics and on the show. They’re def my 3rd favorite DC ship, I just don’t post about them much. Anyway! I totally agree that it seems like they’ve aged up their dynamic. I’m not thinking about any future sex scenes yet lmao, but I look forward to their journey in whatever form it takes!

If Barry doesn’t start crying when he sees Iris walking down that aisle in her dress, or tearing up at least, I call shenanigans. This man was in tears when Iris told him that she wanted a future with him. The only thing I worry about is Barry’s vows being so long that we would see skeletons in the crowd by the time he finishes. LOL!

Oh, that man is gonna cry big time. I would love if they somehow managed to keep Candice in Iris’ wedding dress a surprise to the rest of the cast, just to preserve their first reactions on film. Obviously Grant will make Barry cry anyway, though, so it’s irrelevant. :P And LOL, Iris will have to make Barry go first so she can top him for once.

I don’t think he baited them intentionally, seeing as he rectified his mistaken assumption after the fact. He probably has less of the pieces than we do lol.

Considering how successful the crossovers were last year especially the flash one, I would love if they did a photoshoot with EW again this time with CP though, I mean I don’t think it would to far out of the realm of possibility

I think it could really happen! Candice getting to be part of a photoshoot would be excellent.
