hiii!! i stumbled upon your page at random + i love your work! im new to the reid fandom + new to tumblr in general. is there any advice you could give to an aspiring ff writer like myself? i.e. how to do cute headers, tags to use, language, + fandom culture tips

headers and decor

i (and several others) use canva to make headers. i scroll pinterest to look for pictures and then put them together on canva using the twitter header template size! but this isn't necessary! if you just use the pictures separately and organize them on tumblr it still looks really cute! for dividers i often make them myself but there are numerous blogs on here that make them for you to use.

alright i'm assuming you're writing for spencer so the basics are:

writing

writing is subjective! if one person doesn't like your fic sooo many others will. my biggest tip is to play with sentence and paragraph structures! if all your sentences have the same structure, it can get boring. cut out "he's surprised" and instead write how you can see he's surprised. when writing fanfiction, to make it realistic, you want to grasp the character's mannerisms and speech. for example, spencer's voice gets higher when he's nervous or lying. i would recommend also playing with literary devices like alliteration, imagery and personification!

the cm fandom is soooo vast. like i said previously, someone will always read what you have to say. though, there are certain fandom wide beliefs such as:

spencer calls his partner "angel"

early seasons - sub / later seasons - dom

he's down bad

big big big complimenter

yaps

does not gaf about irrelevant 'imperfections' in his partner

likes to be called "doctor"

there aren't too many things that don't fly in the cm fandom, honestly. don't psych yourself out because you don't think others will like your fics. i promise there is always someone that will enjoy it.

i would have to say elle's... idk if that counts as a storyline but i personally think it was very well written and a realistic experience of ptsd (coming from someone that's never experienced ptsd)

yes ofc do whatever you wish it isn’t that big of a deal haha but also— if it’s only an app as you say, then why do something that isn’t polite etiquette solely to get more notes? if they’re just notes on an app? i totally get wanting to receive more recognition on a piece of writing that you worked hard on but that isn’t the best reasoning lol. especially when many other people who also work hard aren’t tagging their fluff as smut because they recognise that it’s etiquette. even if it’s not that serious, it’s what they do. ok wow this was a long tangent on something that doesn’t matter i swear im not crazy but do you feel what im getting at?? love your writing btw

yes understand this! it is sort of a contradicting argument but i genuinely just don't see how tumblr has an 'etiquette' if that makes any sense? i use the tag because i find that my smut does much better (even though i think my smut is awful) and my angst (which i think is much better) does worse.

i swear i'm not trying to be insensitive!!! it just helps my fics get to a broader audience so i use it
