It's a shame a wonderful actress like Hayley seems stuck either playing Peggy or starring in British period dramas (Howard's End). But I guess she's not up there in the hierarchy with actresses like Emilia Clarke, Daisy Ridley, Margot Robbie, Amy Adams, and Brie Larson. I noticed she upgraded in terms of stylists. Micaela Erlanger-who also styles Meryl Streep and John Boyega-now styles her.
Micaela styles Lupita, too. She’s a wonderful stylist for women. As far as Hayley is concerned, I have been looking forward to Howards End, but I love the book and I love the movie with Emma Thompson. So I am a bit biased, but I’m with you in that I hope Hayley isn’t relegated to “corset roles”.
I don’t see why she should be, though. She doesn’t have a look that would naturally put her in that type of production, at least to me. Helena Bonham Carter had been in that situation when she was younger, but she broke out of it, at least for a little while (Fight Club certainly got her out of that rut).

¡Holi! . . #fantasiaurbana #lecturaconjunta #buenosaires #leoycomparto #instalibros #popularbooks #booklove #blog, #compartoloqueleo #leoycomento #book #libros #bibliomania #booklover #autores #autoras #recomiendoautores  #viviresleer #yoopino #bookstagram #librosymaslibros #librosrecomendados #booksnifer .    . . . Updates, Grievances, Joys, and Frustrations
About a month ago I promised myself I wouldn’t write. After a spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically tough summer, I felt that a year with no one in my business would be good for me. Well, a few months have passed and I can’t keep away from the keyboard. Those of you that know me and are familiar with my writing are aware that my style is romantic, flowing, rhythmic: I like to tell stories. I will preface this year of blog posts by saying that I will not be as dramatic as I usually am for the sake of time and personal obligations. Mark Thibodeaux, author of Reimagining the Ignatian Examen, wrote an exercise that recognizes a shift in the spirit. After months of assessing, analyzing, reflecting, and contemplating, I can only describe my current disposition as “a shift in my spirit.” I yearn to share with you all the wonderful ups and downs of simple living, community, social justice, and spirituality, but from a more simple lens. I am attempting to spend less time on social medias and more time catching up on personal reading (which I’ll keep you all in the loop on, maybe we can start a book club!) and personal fictional writing. As most of you know, fiction writing is something I enjoy but never get around to. In attempts to shift my priorities in self reflection, I am simplifying this whole blog process. However, I want you all to feel free to write letters to me. I have no problem sharing details on my life in other ways. To put it in the most clear way possible: I don’t want to invest my time in fancy blogging and computer skills when my year of service is focused away from the mainstream. That being said, I love writing and keeping you all informed. So, I suppose this is the compromise.
I live on the Southwest side of Tucson, Arizona with 6 other Jesuit Volunteers: Diana (Washington/Williamstown MA), Anastasia (Houston/San Diego), Ali (San Jose area/San Francisco), Meghan (Cleveland/Cincinnati), Micaela (Albuquerque/Denver), and Rob (Boston/NJ). We’re all pretty different but we all seem to love musical theater and going to costume/themed events so we keep the house bumpin’.
HIGHLIGHTS: Dressing up for and attending the Tucson Mermaid Festival in celebration for monsoon season. We entered the mermaid pageant as “Rob the Mermaid” and “Mermaids on a Budget.” We were crowd favorites. The next weekend Ali, Rob, Meghan, and I attended a full-blown version of Rocky Horror. For those who have been, I’ll spare you the details. For those you haven’t, it’s a great Halloween flick ;) Just last week our whole community attended a not-so-stipend-friendly trivia night to fund raise for the local food bank. The bottom floor of the house registered as team “and in the lead with 1 billion points” and placed last. The top floor of the house registered as the “naked ladies lounge” (that’s what we actually call ourselves) and placed 5th!
Just last weekend we had a pool party to meet the other volunteers around Tucson. We met with the  Young Adult Volunteers, Mennonite Volunteers, and Explorers to talk about our experiences and hopefully make new friendships. I’ve been wanting to get involved with more justice-related activities in Tucson, so those conversations were great connections to make. In terms of justice-happenings, my roommate and I attended a protest against the pardoning of former Sheriff Joe Arpaio when Trump was in Phoenix a few weeks ago and I felt very right there.  I’m hoping to attend more sociopolitical lectures and protests in the future, seeing as Tucson is pretty left leaning and young and I’m a Jesuit Volunteer ;) In terms of getting involved, I’ve been attending the 5pm Sunday mass at the University of Arizona Newman Center. It’s very different than SLU, but it’s intimate and active. My other roommate, Meghan, and I decided to audition for and join the 5pm mass choir, which is really just 3 instrumentalists and us attempting to sing. I’m hoping to explore other choir options, even outside of mass.
As you can imagine, most of my time is spent at my placement site. I am the Case Manager at Reunion House, a shelter for runaway and homeless teens ages 12-17. When I first saw the job description, I assumed I would be doing mostly paperwork and consultation. While I definitely do my fare share of paperwork, my job consists of nonstop conversations with youth regarding anything from teen parenthood to prison time, ethnicity and birth parents to restraining orders, resume building to school fights, sexuality to makeups and breakups. I spend most of my time transporting teens to schools and appointments, where I get the chance to have one on ones about their lives, to really hear them out. I find that this small piece is truly a large factor in advocating their potential to their teams of guardianship. I’ve found that after one month the key virtue I practice is forgiveness. After a girl ignores me, disrespects me, and call me a bitch, I still need approach her with love and care. After a guy tells me to fuck myself and throws a fit, I still have to consider the big picture of his life and speak positively on his behalf. It’s completely and entirely a worthwhile roller coaster of extreme highs and extreme lows.
This being said, half of the battle of work has been getting there. In the spirit of simple living (and maybe getting in shape?) I decided to bike to work every day. It’s 9 miles across town one way and, on any given day, over 100 degrees in direct sunlight. For the first few weeks, I came home thinking I was going to pass out from heat exhaustion. However, a bit of conditioning, electrolytes, and a new, distance-crafted bike have me (almost) effortlessly biking almost 100 miles a week with a hike or two on the weekends. Just like my actual work, the transportation is worthwhile.
Well, that’s it for now, friends. Thanks for having interests in my endeavors. Hopefully I can make my goals of writing and reading this year while also being attentive in keeping you all updated (I promise it will be shorter next time). Again, please write me letters! Contact me if you’d like my address.
An important aside:
Prayers and constructive conversations about my hometown, St. Louis, are being said here. And an extension of the heart to Texas and Florida as well. I can’t sign off without expressing how distraught I am from the happenings in our country. My promise to JVC was a promise to keep thinking, keep voicing, keep standing up for what is right. Silence is violence. Black lives matter. Keep fighting the just fight St. Louis.
Stay contemplative, stay active, stay always loving.
Emily
PS. Just for fun, here are some personal things I’m up to:
What  I’m reading:
The Little Paris Bookshop
Romantic, yet intellectually intriguing. Great for a Sunday afternoon
Following Christ in a Consumer Society
Heavy, dense, makes you feel conflicted in all the best and worst ways
Mrs. Dalloway
Beautiful rhetoric, roundabout--yet detailed-- storytelling, secretively delicious
The Vagina Monologues
Female power and beauty told through poetics of the body
What I’m listening to:
Scenes from an Italian Restaurant, Billy Joel
Musical storytelling; reminds me of my time abroad
Summer, Highland Falls, Billy Joel
    Nostalgic and truthful
At the Beginning, Peter and Evynne Hollens
For all the a Capella nerds, it’s a great cover
I Still Have to Go, Tyson Motsenbocker
A melancholy, indie type song about the need to experience something away   from everything you love
U, Daichi Miura
It’s completely in Japanese, but it’s pretty catchy. One of my teens is really into KPOP and showed it to me.

Travel tips: Sonoma, CA
*Getting around NorCal: --There is a ferry from Downtown San Francisco to Vallejo.
*Micaela’s wedding site (The Garden Pavilion at 23450 Arnold Dr, Sonoma, CA 95476) is only 14 miles SW of Downtown Napa! Napa and Sonoma are very close to one another! :)
*Noah Clark loves the sesame chicken at House of Nanking (919 Kearny St, San Francisco, CA 94133).
Katie Duerr:  WINERY: FROG’S LEAP WINERY (8815 Conn Creek Rd, Rutherford, CA 94573) -- 28 miles NE of Micaela’s wedding site.  --"My favorite vineyard tour was of Frog's Leap - it's in Rutherford. They are laid back / not at all pretentious, so it was a nice, relaxed time.”
WINERY: INMAN FAMILY WINES (3900 Piner Rd, Santa Rosa, CA 95401) -- 38 miles NW of Micaela’s wedding site.   --Owned by Kathleen Inman. Not surprisingly, the wine industry is dominated by men, but Kathleen found a way to make a name for herself.  --Tastings BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.
Liz Bogdon:  WINERY: PETER CELLARS (21708 Broadway, Sonoma, CA 95476) -- 3 miles NE of Micaela’s wedding site.  **So close** --”It was my all-time fave. Family run winery with no frills, just amazing wine and scenery. Our whole tour loved their wines, and my regret was not doing the wine club.”
Sarah Haile:  RESTAURANT: THE GIRL & THE FIG (Sonoma Hotel, 110 W Spain St, Sonoma, CA 95476) -- 5 miles N of Micaela’s wedding site

Meeting/Pick Up Locations - for Sonoma Valley Tours: For our Sonoma Valley Tours we can pick you up from many different places in the Sonoma Valley, or from most locations in the city of Napa and the towns of Sonoma and Glen Ellen. If you happen to be staying in Napa, since our Sonoma Tours actually depart from the city of Napa every morning, it is possible for us to pick up guests on our way over to Sonoma. Let us know where you're staying and we'll try to accommodate you. Otherwise, our meeting place and time is the Sonoma Plaza at 10:30 AM. Sonoma Plaza is a big, square park with shops and restaurants located across the street on all four sides. We pick up behind the Historic Barracks at the North End of the Plaza near the historic Mission San Francisco Solano. We will meet you at the bench behind the barracks, next to the free parking lot located behind the Sonoma Jack Cheese Company. The entrance to this parking lot is on 1st Street East in Sonoma, the closest cross street being East Spain Street. Which wineries will we visit? There is no set schedule of wineries. Our tour drivers like to customize their tours to take advantage of the best winery experiences available on that day, including special events or limited-time programs.  How many wineries will we visit? We'll stop at four wineries. At three, we’ll visit the tasting room only. At the fourth, we’ll do a full tour and eat lunch. (Note: We typically do not visit wineries whose tasting fees exceed $15 per person.) How long will we spend at each winery? No set time. Some winery experiences take longer than others. The average is about an hour at each winery. We'll spend a little longer at whichever of the wineries we use for our facility tour and our picnic lunch.
Jen Hawkins:  WINERY: ELEVEN ELEVEN WINERY (620 Trancas St, Napa, CA 94558) -- 16 miles NE of Micaela’s wedding site.
Erica Hawkins (and BRUUUUCE):  WINERY: BLACK STALLION WINERY (4089 Silverado Trail, Napa, CA 94558) -- 19 miles NE of Micaela’s wedding site.
WINERY: V. SATTUI (1111 White Ln, St Helena, CA 94574) -- 29 miles NE of Micaela’s wedding site.
WINERY: GLORIA FERRER CAVES & VINEYARDS (23555 Arnold Drive, Sonoma, CA 95476) - 1 mile W of Micaela’s wedding site. **So close**
WINERY: CAKEBREAD CELLARS (8300 St Helena Hwy, Napa, CA 94558) -- 25  miles NE of Micaela’s wedding site.

I Love the Elite Kings Club, but... Part 2: Everything else
This week I have been reading the Elite Kings Clubs and I loved them, they are quite addictive, but at the same time I had some issues with the storylines. Surprise… surprise. It is going to be a bit of ramble. And SPOILER warning ahead, because I don’t know what I am going to write. This is going to be part 2 or 2, because it became really long. I am not trying to be mean, I promise. It is just when you have such a great story, the bad looks way worse in my brain and I am not actually hating on the series, it is more a therapy session for me after finishing the five books in two days so that I can move on for now and if you haven't gotten the idea I tend to overanalyse books and TV shows (I may overanalyze The Society in the future).
About the trigger warning in Malum P1, I think it was a good idea to have it and I fucking hate trigger warning, because I was really sad reading about that and from mbti I am a thinker, so it is difficult to make me feel for characters. The issue with the trigger was that, if someone decided to skip it, they basically had to skip the rest of the book and then what is the point of reading thus far? At the start of the book I though that, the trigger is about a very graphic scene where Tillie is beaten up by her father and that would have been a chapter and skippable, but what happened is not exactly skippable and a reader would not understand why Tillie and Nate are at their lowest. Having that in mind Malum P2, I think handles the possibility to skip parts of Malum P1 very well.
Deaths does not feel permanent, because with only one exception they always come back. The first time when we learned that Elizabeth and what’s her name were not actually dead was shocking. Then we had the Daemon’s chapter in the third book, which was believable enough when Nate and Bishop’s mother were the one’s hurt, but the moment Bishop was hurt, it became very unrealistic and I was sure that was simply happening in Daemon’s head. In Malum, then the sad thing happened (I don’t know why I am keeping this part as spoiler free, it just feels wrong to spoiled it) and I read what it happened, my reaction is “k. Everything is going to be fixed in the next chapter”, then Nate’s chapter which is basically the spoiler warning??? I was still “That doesn’t mean anything. Everything would be fine” and then it wasn’t. And then it was when her body came back to the house and the kings came and I am “see. Everything is going to be fine, they are just now going show Tillie that she is alive” and that never happened but I still keep expecting it and at the end when we learn that Daemon is alive surprise… not, I am still expecting she to be alive (I am currently reading Malum P2 at least while writing this part. I should be finished with it by the time I publish this) and before what’s her name is killed, she asks Tillie if she wants to see her mother or something in those lines and if Katsia is also alive I am so over the death scenes in this series, they don’t have consequences with the exception of one and that is bullshit. Malum P2 update: alright that was interesting way to deal with Daemon, but my point about the deaths not being permanent still stands.
The alliances between the characters is difficult to grasp. I think if we had more chapters from the kings, the plans and alliances would be executed better. One character is working with another, and the another is working with a third, but the third is working against the first one and at the end of the novel it would be like “JK, the two of us were working together the whole time, to screw over the second character actually and that was the plan from the very beginning and you did what we expected”, but instead of three characters, we have between 30 and 40 named characters.
While reading the second part of Malum, my heart is breaking for Bishop and Madison. I just want them happy. Is it too much to ask at this point? I know that people still have problems after they get their happy ever after, but at the same time as a reader I just want to know that they are functioning adults afterwards (I know that the last book is going to be about them, but I am just not fan of those). Examples of other series doing the same are (Michael and Erika from Devil’s night (that has not officially happened, but it looks like set in stone), Jared and Tate from Fall Away, and Abby and Jake from Runaway) feels cheap and milking it. The only time, I haven’t been pissed of when the starting couple has been fighting in the letter books is in Marked Men, with Shaw and Rule, because it sounded like they have problems, but old enough to try to fix them rather than sit around until it is so bad that you can only break up.
Some characters storylines don’t go anywhere unless they are revived in the future instalments. Aly (not sure if that was how it was spelled in the novel) kind of did go somewhere, but not fully. All we know is that Bishop killed her, and it is implied to be because of the video, but here really being told much more about the situation. The same goes for Madison’s fuckboy (Carter??? I really cannot remember his name and I don’t care enough), we learned that he was the one to send the video, He hated Madison for Aly’s death (then why send the video??? Beforehand) and then it is revisited again when Nate kills him because he didn’t like fuckboy and that entire plotline is dropped.
The generation’s thing does not work. In THE book, Madison reads that a new generation is every 4 years, but current generation were seniors in high school (18 year old), the previous generation are 6 year older (some character said that Saint is 24) and then the new generation are 16 during Malum, but at that point wouldn’t they already be high school? and the difference would be two years with the kings. And how exactly Madison fits in the generations? She and Daemon are twins, but Hunter is the same age is her (both being seniors in high school and for sure they were not triplets.)
Some other minor inconsistencies that bothered me, because I just hate myself. When Bishop gives Madison her car in book 3, it is a Lamborghini, and then in Malum P1, it becomes a Ferrari. And again, in Malum, Tillie talks abought Madison killing Lucan, but it was Bishop shooting him and then Madison and Brantley cut him a bit (to say it in the nicest way possible).
I struggled keeping track of all characters. I would try to list them now: Bishop, Jase, Jesse (why are you doing this to me), Katsia, Katsia 2.0, Madison, Nate, Tate, Tillie, original Katsia’s husband, Brantley, Bailey, Abel, what’s her name (the one that had feeling’s for Bishop and was sleeping with his father), Hector, Skylar, Saint, Saint 2.0 (next book that is going to be difficult), Gabriel, Elena, Joseph, Elizabeth, Lucan, Max, Cash, Phoenix, Chase, Raguel, Ace, Eli, Jonah, Hunter, Daemon, Madison’s biological mother, Micaela, Jessica, Payton, Carter??? (at this point if that’s not his name I am renaming him), then the four new gen kings, Spyder, Ollie (was it ollie the name of Nate’s cousin that he doesn’t like), Bishop’s lost boy cousin, Bailey’s hacker of a brother , Aly/Allie, Allie’s bff and that’s is almost 50 character (count them if you don’t believe me) and it feels like it is game of thrones, with the difference that these books are about three hundred pages and it is difficult to keep track of every single one of them. If it is made into a TV series, it would be amazing. I think that’s the positive note that I am going to end this with.
This is really long, and I honestly love this series, but these points really bothered me. In order to end on a positive note, Bishop, Nate and Brantley are amazing and I cannot wait to read Brantley’s story and the book of fixing Bishop and Madison (let’s hope that she would grow a few braincells for her sake). One of my favourite dynamics between character has been Nate and Madison, but I have been missing it during Malum P1, but there is one moment between the two in Malum P2 and I was there for it. As you can guess I loved Madison and Bishop and I also loved Tillie and Nate, all of them are so broken, but they somehow work.
I am not sorry about the swearing in this post, it needed to be said that way. I also know that it looks really bad, writing this long thing for a series that I love, but I recommend for everyone to read it and not listen to me.
... Until the next romance book

VELVET WAS THE NIGHT WAS SO GOOD. i wrote a post about this last night and decided to wait until i had a night’s distance to make sure i felt the same way and i do
the way she writes the two main characters circling each other was so good - while never even having them meet! and not in a “then he saw her across a crowded room” cheesy way, like it’s so grounded so we as the audience experience this tension while the characters feel a minor echo of the same and that in itself makes this delicious frustration
i admire a ton that she can slip between genres so smoothly. she can really do fantasy in gods of jade and shadow and then noir here and both feel so rooted in their genre well.
she does have a distance in her writing that prevents me from feeling quite the same level of empathy or immersion as i want but at the same time i think that’s a personal preference i have rather than a real flaw in her writing; my critiques were really minor nitpicks
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, loved it, highly recommend for ppl who like thrillers/tension, noirs with modern prose style, and don’t mind really unlikeable pov characters

NFL notebook: Jets GM lauds Darnold, hints at possible QB trade
With Sam Darnold eyeing the New York Jets’ starting quarterback job halfway through the preseason, general manager Mike Maccagnan offered tremendous praise for the No. 3 overall pick on Monday.
Aug 13, 2018; Washington, DC, USA; New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold (14) and New York Jets quarterback Teddy Bridgewater (5) participate in drills during a joint practice with the Washington Redskins at Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center. Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports
“Of all the young quarterbacks I’ve been around, I’ve been exceptionally impressed by Sam,” Maccagnan said on WFAN radio. “Sam probably is at the top of that list.
.”.. Every day he goes out there, he gets a little better. He literally just turned 21 [on June 5]. He’s a very young person. But it’s all the stuff we knew about him coming out of college. All the stuff people thought about him there. His personality, his work ethic, the way he handles pressure. … That’s the thing that’s probably impressed me the most about the kid. He’s been really sort of unflappable.”
Maccagnan also indicated the team could be open to trading a quarterback, amid reports that Teddy Bridgewater is available. “We can very easily keep three quarterbacks, and if something were to arise, we can go with two if that’s the case,” Maccagnan said.
—Carson Wentz continues to ramp up football activity in practice, but the Philadelphia Eagles are not ready for expose their franchise quarterback in exhibition games.
Wentz, recovering from December surgery to repair a torn ACL and LCL, participated in 11-on-11 drills on Sunday and was again part of workouts Monday. But Wentz said he won’t be on the field this week against the Cleveland Browns for the third, and typically most important, preseason game of the summer for the Eagles.
Wentz said “I feel really good where I’m at,” but stuck with his assessment last week that it will be “close” whether he is cleared for the regular-season opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 6.
—Josh Allen took a turn with the first-team offense in what the Bills envision as a rotation at quarterback with Nathan Peterman, and Allen will start Sunday in Buffalo’s preseason game against the visiting Cincinnati Bengals.
Head coach Sean McDermott said he would give both Allen and Peterman time with the starters as AJ McCarron seeks a second opinion on his injured collarbone. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, tests showed that McCarron’s collarbone is not fractured.
McDermott said the Bills are seeking a third quarterback with the expectation McCarron will miss significant time, but won’t rule out the former Alabama star until medical confirmation is received.
—The Dallas Cowboys got good news about All-Pro guard Zack Martin, but the status of center Travis Frederick remains up in the air after he suffered another stinger in practice.
Martin was diagnosed with a bone bruise and hyperextended knee, but the Cowboys expect him to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season on Sept. 9. However, head coach Jason Garrett told reporters that Frederick will see more experts in the Dallas area about his neck after suffering a stinger Monday, following a week in which he suffered multiple stingers.
Frederick, who saw a specialist in Los Angeles last week, will now see another on Monday and possibly another Tuesday, Garrett said. Previously optimistic about Frederick’s availability for the opener against the Carolina Panthers, Garrett was tepid when asked about it Monday, saying, “Hopefully he will be back real soon.”
—The Washington Redskins signed veteran running back Adrian Peterson, the team announced, adding depth to a backfield that lost rookie Derrius Guice for the season and has several other injured players.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but multiple outlets reported it is a one-year contract.
“I’m excited,” Peterson told the team’s website. “It’s been a long offseason but I’ve been keeping my body in shape and [I’m] ready for this opportunity. So when this opportunity presented itself, I was just excited.”
—Aaron Hernandez wrote suicide notes to his fiancee and attorney, who revealed the contents of the personal letters in a book “Unnecessary Roughness: Inside the Trial and Final Days of Aaron Hernandez.”
Jose Baez published the letters in his book, which outlines the circumstances and attempts to provide context to the final years of the life of Hernandez, who died at age 27 of apparent suicide in April 2017 while serving a life sentence for first-degree murder.
Hernandez addressed his fiancee, Shayanna Jenkins, in a note that the New York Post reported including a drawing of a noose on the end of a rope, saying “I told you what was coming indirectly” and adding, “Don’t shed one tear for I am with all of you and never wasn’t!”
—Baltimore Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith is facing a multi-week suspension from the NFL because of an apparent violation of the league’s personal-conduct policy, The Athletic reported.
Aug 9, 2018; Philadelphia, PA, USA; Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz (11) throws the ball before a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Lincoln Financial Field. Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports
Per the report, the team is bracing for a suspension to be handed down soon and Smith is expected to appeal. He left the team over the weekend and was scheduled to meet with league officials Monday.
The report adds that Smith’s exact violation is unclear, but it could be connected to a child custody case between Smith and Micaela Sanchez, the mother of his first child. A story published in November by the Baltimore Sun included details by Sanchez of alleged domestic violence and drug use by Smith, which the Ravens veteran has denied.
—Two days after a roughing-the-passer call drew his consternation, then seemingly his understanding, Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said he anticipates major consequences to come from the NFL’s new helmet rules.
“It’s going to cost some people some jobs,” Zimmer said, per The Athletic. “Playoffs, jobs, the whole bit, I guess.”
Zimmer was visibly upset Saturday after Vikings linebacker Antwione Williams was flagged for roughing the passer on a sack of Jaguars QB Cody Kessler, though Zimmer said he understood why it was called after having time to reflect on it. However, he said he has asked the league for clarification on another call and has not been told anything about plans to relax the new helmet rule once the regular season begins.
—Chicago Bears outside linebacker Leonard Floyd had surgery Sunday after suffering a fractured right hand in Saturday’s preseason game against Denver, the team announced.
Head coach Matt Nagy said the team is “staying optimistic” about Floyd’s availability for the Sept. 9 season opener at Green Bay, but added that Floyd will likely be limited by a protective cast or padding when he gets back on the field.
“I don’t think it’s going to be healed (by Week 1),” Nagy told reporters of Floyd, who was injured while being cut-blocked against the Broncos. “I think he’s going to have to end up playing through it. It might require something in regards to having a cast or a club-type deal.”
—The Los Angeles Rams have extended starting right tackle Rob Havenstein on a deal that will keep him with the club through 2022, the team announced.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but according to ESPN, Havenstein will make $32.5 million over the four-year extension.
A second-round pick in 2015 out of Wisconsin, Havenstein has started in each of the 43 games he has played in his career. He was scheduled to make $976,367 this season in the final year of his rookie deal.
—Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham participated in his first preseason practice after being activated from the physically unable to perform list.
Graham is returning from offseason ankle surgery and said he expects to play in the season opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 6.
A hero of Philadelphia’s Super Bowl win over the New England Patriots with a strip-sack late in the fourth quarter against Tom Brady, Graham was a first-round pick out of Michigan in 2010. He is listed as the starter at left defensive end.
—Injured offensive lineman Menelik Watson is expected to be released by the Broncos, who will absorb his guaranteed $5.5 million salary for the 2018 season.
Watson was officially placed on the reserve/injured list by Denver on Monday. The team intends to release Watson once he passes a physical, according to multiple reports, which will likely be in a few weeks.
“I would speak more to our guys that are playing well, like Billy Turner and ‘Eli’ (Wilkinson). Those guys have played really well,” Broncos coach Vance Joseph said when asked about Watson, who signed a three-year, $18.3 million deal in March 2017. “It’s more about those guys than it was Menelik not being a fit.”
—The Seattle Seahawks shook up their kicking units by releasing punter Jon Ryan, the longest tenured player on the team, and kicker Jason Myers.
Ryan’s release comes after Seattle used a fifth-round draft pick on former Texas Longhorns standout and Ray Guy Award winner Michael Dickson in April. Myers, a free-agent pickup from Jacksonville, was competing with 40-year-old veteran Sebastian Janikowski for the placekicking job.
Ryan, 36, spent the past 10 seasons with the Seahawks, winning one Super Bowl title. The Canadian took to Twitter on Monday to thank the Seahawks organization and fans, saying, “Even though I’m leaving, I will always be a Seahawk.”
—Vikings rookie Daniel Carlson won the kicking job in Minnesota over Kai Forbath, who was released.
Slideshow (3 Images)
Carlson, the former Auburn kicker who nailed a 57-yarder in his preseason debut, was a fifth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Forbath had been the placekicker for the Vikings since Blair Walsh was released in 2016.
“We just figured it was getting close to the last couple preseason games. Kai did a great job while he was here, he’s a good kid. We just decided to go with Daniel,” Zimmer said.
—Cleveland Browns cornerback E.J. Gaines will be sidelined three to four weeks with a sprained knee.
The team announced Gaines’ injury on Monday after he left Sunday’s practice on a motorized cart, gripping his right knee.
Gaines’ right knee buckled as he tried to break up a pass to wide receiver Jarvis Landry. The cornerback crumpled to the ground and grabbed his knee as the team’s training staff and head coach Hue Jackson headed to the field to attend to him. Gaines acknowledged fans’ support as he was carted off.
—Mike Tirico will officially replace Dan Patrick as the studio host for NBC’s “Football Night in America.”
Patrick, 61, announced in March that he would not be returning to the program after saying that he turned down a five-year contract extension, telling the New York Post, “I didn’t want to do it and not love doing it.”
He will be replaced by good friend Tirico, who adds to a busy slate that includes doing play-by-play on Notre Dame games in addition to a number of other hosting duties. Tirico left ESPN in 2016, and has served as NBC Sports’ host for many of the network’s marquee sporting events, including the Olympics, the Triple Crown of horse racing and major golf tournaments.
—The Chicago Bears announced that the NFL suspended third-year safety Deiondre’ Hall for the regular-season opener after violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.
Hall will be allowed to practice and play with the Bears through the preseason. He will then be eligible to return to the team Sept. 10, the day after the Bears’ season opener in Green Bay.
A fourth-round pick in 2016, Hall has played in 10 games in two seasons, picking off a pass in eight games as a rookie before playing in only two games last season while fighting a hamstring injury.
—The Tennessee Titans placed cornerback Kalan Reed on injured reserve with a torn ACL and agreed to terms with defensive back Josh Kalu.
Reed is the third defensive back placed on injured reserve by Tennessee this preseason, following safety Jonathan Cyprien and cornerback Tye Smith. Cyprien went down to a knee injury during a non-contact play in practice, prompting the team to sign former New Orleans Saints first-round pick Kenny Vaccaro.
Reed was the final pick of the 2016 NFL Draft, dubbed “Mr. Irrelevant.” The 5-foot-11, 192-pound former Southern Miss standout is a former track star who was competing for snaps as a reserve in the Titans’ young cornerback group.
—The Detroit Lions placed linebacker Steve Longa on injured reserve with a torn knee ligament.
The team also cut veteran defensive lineman Cornelius Washington and cornerback Antwuan Davis, while signing cornerbacks Sterling Moore and Dexter McDougle along with offensive lineman Beau Nunn.
Longa was injured while pursuing New York Giants quarterback Kyle Lauletta on a touchdown run during the second quarter of Friday’s preseason game. Longa walked off the field, but was seen wearing a heavy brace after the game and tests confirmed the torn ligament.
—The Atlanta Falcons signed fullback Jalston Fowler and wide receiver Julian Williams, and waived fullback Luke McNitt and wide receiver Taj Williams.
A fourth-round pick by the Tennessee Titans in 2015, Fowler will compete with Ricky Ortiz for a roster spot in Atlanta. Falcons coach Dan Quinn indicated Sunday that Ortiz had pulled ahead of McNitt.
Fowler appeared in 42 games for the Titans, including eight starts, over the past three seasons. He has rushed for 20 yards and a touchdown on 10 career carries and added one touchdown on six catches.

This Is How You Lose The Time War went viral on twitter a few weeks ago bc someone with a very funny username gave it a shoutout and it blew up so in a way i'm actually late to the party and this isn't like an unknown masterpiece that i'm TRYING to get everyone to read even though that's how i phrased the tag.
anyway. to make up for that phrasing here are some books i am constantly trying to get everyone to read bc they DIDN'T go viral. tale for the time being and/or book of form and emptiness, the leavers, claire of the sea light, in the woods, number one chinese restaurant, ballad of the whiskey robber, self-help, the comet seekers, one thousand and one nights. please to fuck read these books they're so good
