Please enjoy the first installment of a new series I'd like to call Gamemode 0!

If you're waiting for Mianite Season Four (ha), this will hopefully tide you over. Gamemode 0 is a highly produced mini-series that tells a story through text, dramatic audio narration, a musical score, and images. It stars a villain who was an edgy Grim Reaper in 2015 and it poses the question—how much has Kikoku Botan really changed since 2015?

That question will be answered over the course of – I'm guessing – seven-ish chapters? The first chapter, which you're about to read and hear, is based on a Minecraft RP session held in a single night. Those present for the session include World Historian's original writer (me) and a group of talented role-players. More info under the cut!

Background:

The project was Mianite Etherealis. We played on a private 1.12 server for two years, ending in early 2023. The chapter you're about to read (titled Session One) covers the RP session that brought World Historian into the narrative.

I would almost go so far as to say that you're about to experience a canon World Historian mini-series with implications for all World Historian content in existence.

Is it actually canon? I don't know. It's as authentic as you'll ever get for WH, that's for sure. I've spent the last nine years developing the cosmology being used here. I planted the seeds for it when I created World Historian in 2015.

But no, Gamemode 0 isn't Dec-and-Tom-approved canon. And my astounding co-writers aren't offical Mianite writers. And Etherealis isn't a piece of lost Mianite media, though you can think of it that way if you'd like.

Vision:

Gamemode 0 will follow the plot of Mianite Etherealis for one more session, then embark on its own original plot centered on World Historian.

That being said, my aim with Gamemode 0 is to dig up a piece of the past and link it to the future. This series is one of many projects that could result from that effort. If it sees enough support, it could grow beyond text, images, and audio. We have endless headroom here.

If you're looking for Botan's history in Ruxomar, you'll find it. If you're hoping for a glimpse into Akemi and Mina's lives, you'll get it. If you seek all manner of strange World Historian lore, consider it yours. If you just wanna sink your teeth into a juicy hunk of Mianite meat, go get a napkin, you menace.

We have plenty of chapters to take us from the past, to the future, and back again. I could just list the plain facts about World Historian in a lore post, but I could never be satisfied with that. I'm a storyteller.

Disclaimer:

The players own their characters. Most of the dialogue and actions in Session One come straight from the corresponding RP session. I'm just putting it all to a narrative and making readability tweaks for first-timers.

What are Ophi’s music tastes? or music you’d say is his theme?

I's say overall Ophi's a very musical theater kinda guy! :D I've always sorta wrote him as someone who loves showtunes and more pop music that derives from showtunes (I feel like he'd be really into AJR or whatever the mianite equivalent is) A lot of his motifs come from Hamilton and he also canonically knows about the barbie movie and the songs from it so take that as you will xD

His main character theme is Arrow by Folly and the Hunter ! To me the song's a lot about the fear of never finding and chasing down something that burns like a fire in your heart, calling you to something new and unknown- and finding the strength to leave behind all you've ever known and seeking it out- flying like an arrow towards it, a kind of freedom. It has a dual meaning as it represents Ophi's whole personality and drive to travel across the multiverse become a Dianitee in the face of everyone telling him not to/having to deal with leaving his family behind, and that his strength in combat is as an archer C:

MCYTBLR FLASHBACK FEST is a week-long fanart, fanfiction and other fanwork event for fans of Minecraft video content, running from May 14th to 20th, 2023. Organized by @conarcoin.

This event aims to highlight older sub-fandoms by using one key rule – your source material must have been made from 2010 to 2019.

The only other restrictions are that your content must not be sexually explicit, and your content must not focus on the real lives of content creators. Works should be set in Minecraft!

The tag for this event is #mcytflashbackfest. You can contribute as much or as little as you would like. More information about posting will be provided as the event draws closer.

Additional information under the cut:

The 2019 cutoff does not include content created at the very tail end of 2019 and primarily existed in 2020, such as SMPEarth. Your fandom of choice must have had significant time to exist within the 2010s.

Content without a set RP canon, such as Team Crafted or Technoblade's Potato War is okay so long as your work is set inside Minecraft.

Creators such as SkyDoesMinecraft who have later been outed as abusers should not be present. Characters a creator like this may have played from established RP canons like Mianite or Yandere High School are fine. Series like SMPLive toe this line - please err on the side of caution and just exclude them if you are unsure!

Series that span many years such as Hermitcraft are acceptable, but the season/era you focus on must fall in the time frame of the event. For Hermitcraft, that means nothing after Season 6!

I am actually so sick of rp smps where the story is mainly told through hours long streams. What happened to YouTube series? what happened to easily bingeable series? What happened to new episodes every week?

I swear they used to be so popular in the 2010s and then DSMP happened and everyone decided thats the way to do it now?? as if the reason DSMP worked wasn't strictly because it started in quarantine where everyone was stuck inside without much to do.

It's made worse by the fact theres so many povs and not many (if any) people who edit their streams down into videos for people who want to follow the story in an easier manner.

Streaming rp smps works so much better as like a garnish to a YouTube series where the main storyline is told (like what the empires smps did sorta?)

(I actually don't know if DSMP necessarily started the trend of streamed roleplayed Minecraft series but it was the first one I personally heard of with that format)

Haven't talked about Mianite for years but since it's the 10th anniversary (WOW??) Im just gonna say

thank u sm silly series of some friends just hanging out in Minecraft and accidentally rp and then accidentally making it kind of legit big thing

This blog and in part ig me in this platform, wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the love of the series. The way this blog started was me and the few people in the tag talked and shared ideas, and even before i had this blog Mianite had became something i legit loved thinking about when i was like 15

I dunno it's just, wild how much something can change someone. I've met some wonderful writers and artists- I've stayed mutuals with some even after years of it coming and passing.. and even though rn im not as into it as i was during like 14 to 18 y/o me, i still just appreciate that whole time of being to have sm fun with it.

So!! Happy birthday Mianite, hope many others come to find you and enjoy the silliness i got to see when i found it, and for 10 more years of it why not!

Happy 10th – Here's a Present

If you're reading this, know that I would like to spend the 50th Mianite anniversary with you as well. The memories will only get better. I've been on the DL about my Mianite activities since Season 2, but the truth is that back in 2021-2022 I played in a private Mianite RP with some dear friends. There were five or six of us at a given time (the ideal number). We were passionate. The only thing we lacked was the ability to stream. So the whole thing was a sand castle. We did it because we loved it. Then it was gone with the tide. One of the coolest things we did in that RP was develop the character of World Historian. Yes, the black-hooded edge lord who farmed the insecurities of his own kids until the world they loved (Ruxomar) was a lifeless husk. Botan Kikoku, we used to call him. Bearer of the Kikoku blade. He's grown up a lot since 2015.

I may not have been here at the beginning (if anything i was just observing from afar as an enjoyer of the Jordan mv’s from like 2013) but I’m so happy to have found a place here. I’ve met so many amazing people through this fandom (and through the mianite RPG server which btw has completely changed my life for the better) and I wouldnt want it any other way :D ❤️❤️

i need everyone to watch skyblock kingdoms its so fucking absurd but also heartfelt and fun. if you liked mianite (which. idk how many of yall did, but its what got me into mcyt) this is very similar in terms of "lore is a fun mix of jokey and also serious, with established plotlines that actually have setup, but a lot is improv'ed" although the plotlines and stories are written by the players. everyone is doing something different, most people have povs on youtube, and its all very accessible, even if there are a lot of streams.

im also just insane about the worlds best transgender allegory ive seen in mcyt rp ever. and the first transgender allegory ive seen from someone who already uses all pronouns.

and YES!!!! i am familiar with mianite, and will probably get into it at some point in reference to both the history of streamed mcrp and its use of both player/pov characters & npc characters (who are played by a team of writers/admins... and only communicate through text in contrast to the streamers as player characters... it turns out this format continues to be wildly successful). i have wayyyyyyyy more to say about what streaming does to the format of mcrp than i could fit into the introduction.

mianite is probably the minecraft roleplay i was most invested in as a kid. some of the things it does are still super memorable to me even though it's been probably at least 4 or 5 years since i last rewatched it... for example, i can only describe the following images as Sick as hell:

god. im always paranoid about writing characters that arent my own ocs (i blame quotev rp culture circa 2015, it was.... rough out there) but i am soooo tempted.

would whatver fic i write be for the mianite au im making. almost definitely. will it make sense? probably not. do i wanna yeet legs and viking specifically into the mianite verse to see what happens? 100% it would be hilarious. their existing dynamic would be so interesting to explore when dropped into a world where eachother are the only people they know.

i still need to settle on which if any gods they would follow and i keep flip flopping. so uh. hey viking, legs, viking i know youre enjoying tumblr an awful lot lately, and legs you literally follow me. lawful god (overworld), chaos god (nether), balance goddess (end), or none. i guess technically theres also the wizards which were the builders w creative mode, and the shadows which is.... complicated but my take is hes the void god and is kinda primordial and is the other 3s dad bc well. that part is canon.... or multiple? viking specifically kinda strikes me as the type to say hes following mianite and dianite at the same time. is he actually? unclear.
