U.S. Navy F-5 fighter accident
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 06/01/2023 - 08:00 in Aeronautical Accidents, Military
A U.S. Navy pilot was rescued on Wednesday after ejecting from a Northrop F-5 Tiger II aircraft shortly after taking off from the Key West Naval Air Station in Florida.
The pilot, who is part of the VFC-111 Composite Fighter Squadron, known as "SunDowners", a Navy reserve squadron, performed routine training when he needed to eject.
Kent Cummins, an officer at Key West Naval Station, said the pilot ejected around 9:20 a.m. (local time) and was recovered soon after by rescue teams using a MH-60S Seahawk about 25 miles south of the station.

âA NAS Key West search and rescue team launched an MH-60S helicopter and rescued the pilot being transported to a hospital in the Miami area for further evaluation,â NAS Key West said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
"The safety and well-being of our pilot remain our top priority. The cause of the incident will be investigated. More details will be released as soon as they are available," concluded NAS Key West.
The F-5 Tiger II is an update of the F-5 that was used by U.S. forces during the Vietnam War, which was designed as a light fighter, but was eventually relegated to a training function.
An F-5N of the VFC-13 "Saints" of the U.S. Navy.
The U.S. Navy's F-5 Tiger II are often used to simulate foreign aircraft during military exercises, playing a role known as the "aggressor squadron".

[ meghann fahy, cis-female, she/her ] - was that KENNEDY OâNEILL i saw by the lighthouse today? i heard that the THIRTY-ONE year old who has been in nightrest for HER WHOLE LIFE and works as an EMPLOYEE OF THE TREASURE TROVE & PHOTOGRAPHER has a reputation of being HOPEFUL, but also MULISH. they reside in ASHMORE & people in town usually associate them with THE GENTLE, RHYTHMIC THUD OF A CAMERA AS IT HANGS FROM YOUR NECK, SITTING AT THE EDGE OF THE DOCK BUT NEVER TOUCHING THE WATER, & HAND-ME-DOWN SWEATERS LOSING THEIR DISTINCT SMELL. letâs hope the killer doesnât go after them next.Â
tw: abandonment, parent death, grief
Kennedy's parents, Rory and Andrea were in their senior year of high school when they'd found out they were expecting. Unexpectedly expecting. There were nerves of course and plenty of worries, but Rory was so excited to be a father. Andrea felt differently. She'd tried after the birth, but soon enough all her friends were going off to college, living their lives, and then there she was. Stuck. See, Andrea had dreams of leaving Nightrest, moving out to maybe somewhere warm like Miami or even Los Angeles, becoming more than just another generation of her family that stayed. The resentment in her grew until finally in October she left, leaving behind the title of 'mother' that she never wanted.
Kennedy's father did as good a job as he could to fill in whatever gaps had been left. As a single father, he'd had to work extra hard to provide and always put that extra bit more of time and attention to let Kennedy know she was loved. They were a pair.
Nearly mirroring her parents, she had been a senior (this time in college) when she'd received news that would change her world. Her father, a commercial fisherman, hadn't made it back on their last outing. They'd said that the storm came up on them faster than they'd thought. Something about the waves being so tall. Nine years and his body was never recovered. Rory O'Neill: presumed dead.
Her father's death shattered Kennedy. She opted not to return to her classes, leaving college just shy of earning her degree in marketing. She fully returned to their home in Ashmore, to this day still struggling to make changes to the master bedroom. She returned back to the job she held in high school. Kennedy sought comfort in what parts of the past she could still hold onto.
Though it has been years since, Kennedy still has not gotten into the water. The closest she'd gotten has been letting the waves run up to her ankles on the beach or when she visits her father's motorboat at the old port. Plenty of people find it odd of her, considering the area they live. Her life was practically built around the water. She just felt more trusting of dry land nowadays.
Despite the lingering sadness, Kennedy truly tries to live each day better than the one before it. So even if there are tears in her eyes, she'll still have a soft smile on. Over the years she's found that it helps to surround herself with other people. Admittedly, sometimes that can lead to her being a little dependent and clingy. After a particularly toxic relationship, Kennedy realizes its something that she needs to work on.
Kennedy has always been a creative kid, a trait she had apparently gotten from her mother. She'd always looked forward to vacations or special occasions when she'd get a disposable camera of her own. There were still several shoeboxes filled with memories. And as she got older, her hobby continued and matured until just the last few years when she started making a side hustle of it. She's by no means getting her work in magazines, but she does a fair bit of the engagement, graduation, baby announcements, and of course the family photos (usually when they're all wearing some form of white button-ups). She'll usually have her camera on her, whether around her neck or in her cluttered monster of a bagâ some days she can really give Mary Poppins a run for her money with the amount of stuff she's got crammed in there.
A recent change came on her last birthday, when her grandfather gifted her a cat. Clearly not keen to the rule that animals aren't gifts, he had insisted that Kennedy had needed a companion. "Can't keep living in that house all alone, Peanut." Kennedy still debates on whether he had forgotten that her father had been allergic or whether that had been a purposeful choice. Either way, a black cat named Fitz entered her life and now takes residence mostly in the front window where the sun shines brightest. They both enjoy rainy nights on the couch with trashy television on the screen with wine and charcuterie. Sometimes (most times) he'll earn himself a nibble of cheddar.
Around town, if she's not at her job, Kennedy can usually be found editing photos while sipping on cold brew at the Daily Dose, treating herself to a cocktail and specialty plate at Spirits, or strolling one of the many beaches. Usually, it's Echo but on occasion she'll go to Shipwreck, finding some odd sort of comfort there.

Lately Iâve been looking at storms. Focal length 16-78mm in wide angle apparently. 10-105mm broadly. occasionally 50mm, but more of a toss-up in the final result. DSLR Nikon looks vivid for color.
Thereâs a photo of downtown Miami at night with 100 iso and 12mm focal length, lens 10-20mm. Canon has the colors of a glossy commercial neutrality, although itâs clear post can edit most anything to look like something else- the character of a company sometimes shines through.
Wide angle screen savors of bright blue waters and jagged arcs of black rock - aperture 8, focal length 12.
Stars at night in long exposure, professional post- aperture 3.2 shutter speed 15 focal length 14 lens 14-24.
A duck with golden bokeh at sunset imputed from the sparks of light only reflected in the waves- aperture 5.6, iso 1000, focal length 560mm- achieved with a 400mm lens plus a 1.4x teleconverter, which sounds like an interesting prospect to consider.
A perfect photo of the ceiling in a cathedral- aperture 2.4 and focal length 4.3mm. (Iso 800.)
A calendar worthy black and white shot of a old boat at 85mm, F4.
Lightning at 6.3 aperture and 22mm.
A spring in yellowstone at 20mm, aperture 11.
A fox like youâd see scrolling tumblr at aperture 6 and 450mm. I like the people who use photography like a journal, they say, ânoticed loud shutter. investigated the bush that made odd noises. no luck later on, they went off.â 450 seems like a sweet spot of wildlife photography, unless you preferred beautiful duck bokeh.
Grand canyon in all itâs majesty in aperture 9 and focal length 35. (one 30mm, ap 10). 320 iso. Canon really does remind me of calendars, professional neutrality. I reckon most photographers in national parks keep their 3 stop neutral density filters on (ideal texture caught between .5 and 2 seconds of exposure) and a polarizer to top it off, so I may be noticing a common polarizing character. I hear 10 stop is great for pulling out clouds scudding across the sky.
Semipalmated plover, crisply mid scamper- aperture 8 and focal length 560, 100-400mm lens with a 1.4x multiplier, iso 320.

Graffiti is art that is written, painted or drawn on a wall or other surface, usually without permission and within public view. Graffiti ranges from simple written words to elaborate wall paintings, and has existed since ancient times, with examples dating back to ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, and the Roman Empire .
Graffiti is a controversial subject. In most countries, marking or painting property without permission is considered by property owners and civic authorities as defacement and vandalism, which is a punishable crime, citing the use of graffiti by street gangs to mark territory or to serve as an indicator of gang-related activities. Graffiti has become visualized as a growing urban "problem" for many cities in industrialized nations, spreading from the New York City subway system and Philadelphia in the early 1970s to the rest of the United States and Europe and other world regions.
Modern Graffiti
Modern graffiti art has its origins with young people in 1960s and 70s in New York City and Philadelphia. Tags were the first form of stylised contemporary graffiti. Eventually, throw-ups and pieces evolved with the desire to create larger art. Writers used spray paint and other kind of materials to leave tags or to create images on the sides subway trains.[29] and eventually moved into the city after the NYC metro began to buy new trains and paint over graffiti.
While the art had many advocates and appreciatorsâincluding the cultural critic Norman Mailerâothers, including New York City mayor Ed Koch, considered it to be defacement of public property, and saw it as a form of public blight.[31] The âtaggersâ called what they did âwritingââthough an important 1974 essay by Mailer referred to it using the term âgraffiti.â
Contemporary graffiti style has been heavily influenced by hip hop culture and the myriad international styles derived from Philadelphia and New York City Subway graffiti; however, there are many other traditions of notable graffiti in the twentieth century. Graffiti have long appeared on building walls, in latrines, railroad boxcars, subways, and bridges.
An early graffito outside of New York or Philadelphia was the inscription in London reading "Clapton is God" in reference to the guitarist Eric Clapton. Creating the cult of the guitar hero, the phrase was spray-painted by an admirer on a wall in an Islington, north London in the autumn of 1967. The graffito was captured in a photograph, in which a dog is urinating on the wall.
Films like Style Wars in the 80s depicting famous writers such as Skeme, Dondi, MinOne, and ZEPHYR reinforced graffiti's role within New York's emerging hip-hop culture. Although many officers of the New York City Police Department found this film to be controversial, Style Wars is still recognized as the most prolific film representation of what was going on within the young hip hop culture of the early 1980s. Fab 5 Freddy and Futura 2000 took hip hop graffiti to Paris and London as part of the New York City Rap Tour in 1983.
Commercialization and entrance into mainstream pop culture
With the popularity and legitimization of graffiti has come a level of commercialization. In 2001, computer giant IBM launched an advertising campaign in Chicago and San Francisco which involved people spray painting on sidewalks a peace symbol, a heart, and a penguin (Linux mascot), to represent "Peace, Love, and Linux." IBM paid Chicago and San Francisco collectively US$120,000 for punitive damages and clean-up costs.
In 2005, a similar ad campaign was launched by Sony and executed by its advertising agency in New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and Miami, to market its handheld PSP gaming system. In this campaign, taking notice of the legal problems of the IBM campaign, Sony paid building owners for the rights to paint on their buildings "a collection of dizzy-eyed urban kids playing with the PSP as if it were a skateboard, a paddle, or a rocking horse".
Types of graffiti
Methods and production
The modern-day graffitists can be found with an arsenal of various materials that allow for a successful production of a piece.[48] This includes such techniques as scribing. However, spray paint in aerosol cans is the number one medium for graffiti. From this commodity comes different styles, technique, and abilities to form master works of graffiti. Spray paint can be found at hardware and art stores and comes in virtually every color.
Stencil graffiti
Stencil graffiti is created by cutting out shapes and designs in a stiff material (such as cardboard or subject folders) to form an overall design or image. The stencil is then placed on the "canvas" gently and with quick, easy strokes of the aerosol can, the image begins to appear on the intended surface.
Some of the first examples were created in 1981 by artists Blek le Rat in Paris, in 1982 by Jef Aerosol in Tours (France);[citation needed] by 1985 stencils had appeared in other cities including New York City, Sydney, and Melbourne, where they were documented by American photographer Charles Gatewood and Australian photographer Rennie Ellis.
Tagging
Tagging is the practice of someone spray-painting "their name, initial or logo onto a public surface"[50] in a handstyle unique to the writer. Tags were the first form of modern graffiti.
A number of recent examples of graffiti make use of hashtags.

NY / &&&2
&&&2 January 6, 2024 â February 18, 2024Â Opening Reception: Jan 6, Saturday 6-8PMÂ A talk with the artists will be scheduled in February
Tiger Strikes Asteroid New York is pleased to present &&&2, a bi-coastal exhibition that serves as both a survey and sequel to the collaborations of Ethan Greenbaum, David Kennedy Cutler and Sara Greenberger Rafferty.
Ten years ago, the artists initiated a series of meetings to talk about materials and techniques, based on their mutual interest in using photographic imagery to destabilize traditional art categories like painting, printmaking and sculpture.
The meetings resulted in an artistâs book titled &&&, in which the three artists imagined themselves as a fictional industrial supply firm. For Greenberger & Greenbaum & Cutler &, the fictional company had a veneer of prestige. For these capitalist outsiders, a corporate symbol of joint commercial enterprise was almost tantamount to success.
The book was released at Printed Matterâs NY Art Book Fair in 2013 in both a mass market paperback and a boxed, limited special edition print series based on swatch sample catalogs. The intention of the project was lost on nearly everyone, but a few key people became aware of the artistsâ positioning themselves as a small movement. This included the photography curator Dan Leers, who organized a show and catalog of their work, Beyond The Surface: Image as Object, at the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center in 2014.Â
To commemorate the 10th anniversary of &&&, Sun You has invited Greenberger & Greenbaum & Cutler to mount an exhibition at TSA in Brooklyn, NY. There will also be a simultaneous version of the show at Ditch Projects in Springfield, OR. The exhibitions at both artist-run spaces feature a backdrop that wraps the gallery with deconstructed pages from the original &&& book, over which the artists have installed works from 2013 and 2023. The original book is also exhibited, as well as a new portfolio of prints (&&&2) to celebrate ten fruitful years of collaboration, hand wringing and friendshipÂ
Ethan Greenbaum is a New York based artist. Selected exhibition venues include KANSAS, New York; Derek Eller Gallery, New York; Hauser and Wirth, New York; Marlborough Chelsea, New York, Higher Pictures, New York; New York; Marianne Boesky, New York, Circus Gallery, Los Angeles; Steve Turner, Los Angeles; The Suburban, Chicago; Michael Jon & Alan, Miami, The Aldrich Museum, Connecticut; Socrates Sculpture Park; Long Island City and Stems Gallery, Brussels. Recent projects include a solo presentation with Lyles & King and solo exhibitions at Galerie Pact, Paris and Super Dakota, Brussels.
His work has been discussed in The New York Times, Modern Painters, Artforum, BOMB Magazine, ArtReview and Interview Magazine, among others. Ethan is a co-founder and editor of thehighlights.org and his writings have appeared in the Brooklyn Rail, Wax Magazine, BOMB, Paper Monument and others. He has also curated and co-curated multiple exhibitions at venues including The Suburban, Chicago; Lyles & King, New York and Super Dakota, Brussels. Greenbaum is the recipient of the Queens Art Fund New Work Grant, the Silver Art Residency, The Keyholder Residency at the Lower East Side Printshop, Dieu Donneâs Workspace Residency, LMCCâs Workspace Program, The Robert Blackburn SIP Fellowship, The Socrates EAF Fellowship, The Edward Albee Foundation Residency and The Barry Schactman Painting Prize. He received an MFA in Painting from Yale School of Art.
David Kennedy Cutler is an artist, writer and performer who lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Cutler received his BFA from The Rhode Island School of Design in 2001. He has had solo exhibitions at Derek Eller Gallery, New York; Halsey McKay Gallery, East Hampton; Essex Flowers, New York; The Centre for Contemporary Art, Tallinn, Estonia and Nice & Fit, Berlin, Germany. Cutler has performed in various spaces in New York including Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery, Essex Flowers, Printed Matter, Halsey McKay, Derek Eller Gallery, and Flag Art Foundation, and internationally at the Center for Contemporary Arts Estonia, among others. His works are included in the permanent collections of the Wellin Museum at Hamilton College and The RISD Museum, and his artistâs books are included in the libraries of the Whitney Museum and the Brooklyn Museum. He has been reviewed and featured in The New York Times, Artforum, Art in America, The New Yorker and Modern Painter, among others. Cutler is represented by Derek Eller Gallery, NY and Halsey McKay Gallery, East Hampton.Â
Sara Greenberger Rafferty produces image-based works in paper, plastic, glass, metal, fabric, and video. Her work is driven by an ongoing examination of contemporary and mid-20th century visual culture and considers the ever-changing implications for photographic images in the digital era. Sheâs also into comedy.Â

Past exhibiting artists have included internationally renowned practitioners such as Amy Yao, Diana Thater, Scott Reeder, Laura Owens, Jessica Jackson Hutchinsons, and Vito Acconci, along with regionally acclaimed artists such as Ralph Pugay, Amy Bernstein, Lisa Radon, Tannaz Farsi, James Lavadour, and Kristen Kennedy. In this comprehensive guide, we will unfold the ultimate playbook for water damage restoration in Miami, providing insights, strategies, and the crucial steps to effectively combat and recover from water-related incidents.
Understanding the Miami Water Damage Landscape
Miami's tropical climate and geographical location make it prone to various water-related issues, including flooding, storm surges, and hurricanes. The porous soil in the region can lead to water infiltration, affecting both residential and commercial properties. Understanding the unique challenges posed by Miami's environment is the first step in developing a successful water damage restoration playbook.
The Ultimate Miami Water Damage Restoration Playbook: Key Strategies
Swift Response is Key: Time is of the essence when dealing with water damage. The sooner you address the issue, the more likely you are to minimize the extent of the damage. Have a designated emergency response team or contact ready to ensure a swift and immediate reaction to water-related incidents.
Thorough Assessment and Documentation: Before initiating any restoration efforts, conduct a thorough assessment of the damage. Document the affected areas, take photographs, and make detailed notes. This documentation will be crucial for insurance claims and ensuring a comprehensive restoration plan.
Safety First: Ensure the safety of occupants and responders. If the water damage is extensive, it may pose electrical and structural risks. Turn off electricity to affected areas, and if necessary, evacuate the premises until it is deemed safe to return.
Water Extraction and Drying: The next step is to remove standing water from the affected areas. Utilize pumps, vacuums, and other water extraction tools to eliminate water swiftly. Following extraction, prioritize thorough drying using industrial-grade dehumidifiers and drying equipment to prevent mold growth and structural damage.
Mold Prevention and Remediation: Miami's high humidity levels create an ideal environment for mold growth. Actively prevent mold by ensuring proper drying and dehumidification. In cases where mold is already present, initiate prompt remediation efforts to mitigate health risks and further damage.
Restoration and Reconstruction: Once the affected areas are dry and free from contaminants, focus on restoring the property. This may involve repairs to damaged structures, replacement of materials, and overall reconstruction. The goal is to return the property to a fully functional and aesthetically pleasing state.
Insurance Claim Assistance: Navigating insurance claims can be a complex process. Work closely with your insurance provider, providing them with the documented evidence and details of the water damage. Seek professional assistance if needed to ensure a smooth and efficient claims process.

Faster Recovery Time: The systematic approach outlined in the playbook accelerates the recovery process. Swift response times, efficient water extraction, and coordinated restoration efforts contribute to a faster return to normalcy for residents and businesses.
Cost-Efficient Solutions: Proactive water damage restoration strategies outlined in the playbook can be more cost-effective in the long run. By preventing extensive damage and addressing issues promptly, property owners can avoid costly repairs and replacements.

My Father, Lil Pat, and Our Ancestors (2021)
Singer (2022), The Entertainer (2022), Pianist (2022)
The Entertainer (porcelain), 2022
Above are paintings by Reginald O'Neal for the Florida Prize in Contemporary Art at the Orlando Museum of Art.
Reginald O'Neal's work may look familiar if you have walked or driven past one of his murals in Florida. His paintings for this exhibition represent his history as well as the history of African descendants in America.
The museum's information on the artist and his work-
Reginald O'Neal began his painting career as a muralist working on public art projects around his neighborhood. With an innate talent and help from a mentor, he soon transitioned from house paint on city walls to oil on canvas in his studio. In a few years he was exhibiting his work to acclaim and having it acquired by major South Florida museums and private collectors.
O'Neal's paintings reflect his experiences growing up in Overtown, one of Miami's oldest and most significant neighborhoods of African descendants. Once called the "Harlem of the South," Overtown has a celebrated cultural history going back more than a century. During that time, it has also struggled to preserve its unique identity while residents have had to contend with pervasive poverty and systemic racism. Using combinations of vintage and contemporary photography, personal and community narratives, and his own insights, O'Neal has sought to portray in his work the value and beauty of life in the neighborhood. He sees his paintings as both windows through which outsiders can look and mirrors for residents to see themselves. "My goal as an artist is to continue doing what I'm doing now: expressing my truth, he says.
With boldly rendered forms, sharp contrasts of light and dark, and deep earthy tones, O'Neal's paintings evoke such eighteenth and nineteenth-century masters as Goya, Manet and Sorolla. O'Neal's paintings, though, are clearly contemporary, as evidenced by their photographic sources and subject matter. My Father, Lil Pat, and Our Ancestors (2021) is a monumental work that includes the artist's father in the blue jumpsuit of a prison inmate, holding his young nephew during a visit. In the background is a black-and-white image from an archival photograph of black men and women in a cotton field. The painting connects O'Neal's own family history to the centuries-old history of anti-black repression and racism in America.
O'Neal continues this theme in three other works: Pianist (2022), Singer (2022), and The Entertainer (2022). In each painting a single porcelain figure of a black performer is presented from a different angle. These once popular figures are today sometimes termed "black memorabilia,' though historian Henry Louis Gates Jr. calls them "Sambo Art." He notes that such objects have been produced since Jim Crow to popularize derisive stereotypes of Blacks. They are commercialized racism. In choosing to represent these loaded objects, O'Neal recognizes their emotional power and has made decisions about how to present them in the context of his painting. He has isolated each figure, showing the singer from the back and the entertainer lying down, while only the pianist obliquely faces the viewer. They are not shown as overtly salacious, but rather quietly set in a somber atmosphere. Possibly O'Neal is questioning with sympathy the plight of inclusivity or dehumanization these figures would have endured if real.

Anatomy of a Scene - Lost In Translation and Moonlight
My movie B is Lost in Translation (2003), and it's stationed in Tokyo, where it features a gloomy movie star shooting a whiskey commercial and a disorientated wife accompanying her celebrity-photographer husband on a business trip. Both characters seem sad and lost as if they are both on the trip out of some form of obligation instead of genuine excitement about enjoying their surroundings. The two first meet in the elevator but start forming a bond after repeated drinks and events held at the hotel bar. Lost in Translation's story moved slower for me, as it took the two a little while before they actually started interacting and building their friendship. The movie's slow pace and precise editing let the emotional scenes linger, heightening the atmosphere of melancholy and pondering. The leisurely pace of the storytelling allowed me to sympathize with the characters and their emotional journeys on a deeper level. Lost in Translation is full of witty and occasionally awkward conversation that portrays the characters' attempts to communicate across cultural divides. The main characters' performances strike the perfect balance between tenderness and humor, giving their characters' experiences greater significance and authenticity. My movie A is Moonlight (2016), which is stationed in a violent, drug-infused neighborhood in Miami, documents the story of an African American male surviving an abusive domestic environment while also figuring out his sexuality. At the beginning of the movie, there's a scene where a group of boys chase after a young Chiron, who is commonly referred to as "Little" at this point, around the neighborhood's streets. They mock him and call him homophobic insults until he eventually reaches security in an abandoned unit. The combination of shot compositions utilized throughout the scene were close-ups, medium shots, and broad shots. Close-ups were employed to show the intensity of Chiron's feelings, and wide shots were used to illustrate the vastness and dismalness of his surroundings, emphasizing his fragility and isolation. Little's heightened sense of hurry and stress was emphasized through the scene's edits with swift cuts, increasing the audience's emotional participation in the scene through the fast tempo, which replicates the sense of a chase. Although the action takes place during the day, the abandoned unit where Chiron hides is softly lit, mixing shade and light. The dim lighting reflects Little's emotional state and contributes to the dynamic and tense mood. This scene in Moonlight is assuredly dramatic, as the taunting and chasing are distressing and meant to convey the harsh realities faced by Chiron as he confronts the issue of bullying and the emotional toll it takes on the young protagonist's livelihood and growing up. It focuses on how expectations from society and problems with identity affect a young man's quest for self-knowledge. The incident plays a significant role in the movie's examination of human imperfection and the quest for acceptance and understanding in a world full of harsh facts.
