Dutch Hospital documentary
What I'm already done with : Research Script Voiceover (Only need to record it again with a more natural flow of talking) Rough storyboard
What I need to work on : Completed storyboard Final audio + ambience in the background Project Document
Editing in the ambience so I can finish off the audio and then work on the storyboards. Tomorrow we have MI4016 feedback so I'll have stuff ready to show. I'll need to finish the project document as well. I'll finish as much as I can so I'm free to work on the 3D module.
I'm already done with everything in MI4012, as for MI4017 only the editing needs to be done, for MI4014 well I need to finish texturing and fixing the camera movements + project doc and MI4016 I'm done with Sonic Storytelling. After I'm done with editing the ambience and re-recording I need to finish the storyboards and finish it off. All that's left would be the project document.
Foley needed :
:00:31 - 00:41 -> Medicine boxes being open and shut. Medicine bottles clinking. Shoes click clacking - high heels.
00:55 - 1:00 -> Shopping bags full of stuff and walk with it
Hi Krita.... decided to try using Krita instead of Procreate for my panels....
During MI4011 I was struggling to get a reference layer so I can trace my sketch. Finally figured out how to do this.
Just make this layer transparent, and add another layer for my lineart.
Plan B :
Making detailed art on Krita is hard so I'm just gonna make the rough sketches of the panels I'm missing and make the detailed panel on Procreate later. I have to manage my time at this point. Imma leaver Krita for the break.
A rough sketch I did on Krita.

Learning Outcomes
19/09/2024
Below are the points for the learning outcomes and my answers to them. This will also help me for the final presentation.
Understanding the basic concepts required for formal analysis and interpretation of films.
When it comes to analyzing films, the first thing to do while watching a film is to write down the names of characters, repetitive elements and scenes you remember.
Writing such things down will help you with researching and analyzing the film.
Paying close attention to the themes and symbols in the film help you learn more about the main character and their journey.
Reading the themes helped me realize the significance of family in Saroo's story. Also, learning about the symbolism of the yellow butterfly (as mentioned by Garth Davis in an interview) it helped me to create a narrative that is heartfelt and beautiful.
Shekila will never see Guddu again, but his spirit in the Yellow Butterfly will visit her the same way it visited Saroo in his lonesome and terrifying journey.
2. Identify and undertake research into storyboarding design.
After participating in Trishan's storyboard workshop, I learned a lot about the methods of story boarding.
In my mi4011 animation, most of my characters were drawn in a symmetrical manner. This time, I challenged myself and I drew most of my storyboards using 'rule of thirds'.
Using 'rule of thirds' made my story boards look much more appealing, and I used various camera angles and shots to add some variety.
3. Deploy film concepts in practical analytical contexts.
4. Display evidence of creative thinking through the exploration and communication of concepts.
5. Engage with the studio community including professional conduct to ethical considerations, and sensitivity in a multi-cultural environment.

Podcast - Team WIP
06/06/2024
Right after we finished our final presentation for MI4011, Thameena, Shiza, Ayodya headed over to the 6th floor to resume our work of the podcast.
Here are some pictures of our work in progress.
Ayodya focused on her personal blog submissions. Thameena was working on the editing for the final podcast audio and finally, Siza and I were working together to come up with a podcast cover that was funky but also relevant to our podcast title 'Academia wars".
Shiza and I had a look at our references and came up with the idea of having 4 microphones as chess pawns on top of the chess board.
since the background after that sketch seemed to be empty, I suggested that we add fire to make the poster look more eye catching.
This is the fire image we used as reference for the background
The completed sketch of the final podcast cover
I will upload mine and Shiza's work-in-progress on the podcast cover on my next post!

Rewatching Se7en
01/06/2024
Hi everyone! It's been a few days since I last updated this blog. Over the past few days, I've been stressed out about the MI4011 submissions. Thankfully, the submissions were yesterday. So now I have the entire weekend dedicated to writing the essay.
Since my mind has been fully focused on the animation over the past few days, I decided to rewatch 'Se7en' to set my mind back on track for the essay.
While I watched the film, I took some pictures of scenes that I felt had some importance to the essay. I'm not too sure if I will be using all these pictures, but I hope to use some.
You may find the images down below!

Bomb explosions (process work)
I used this above image as a reference image.
Now, I am going to copy and paste some frames and then head over to cap cut and edit the clip. Premiere pro is giving me a headache. I will edit the final animation on premiere pro.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After feedback from Trishan and Dinendri on 29th May.
They didn't tell me anything about the bomb blasting scene but still, it doesn't feel right. I am confident that I can do something better. So let's try. (last minute changes)
It's 1.39am. I can complete this. Fighting!!!!
Since Tumblr won't let to upload more than a video in a post, I'll add the links to the process work and edited clips of this scene.

Feedback on MI4011
1. PANELS
Rework these panels or change the perspective
Since it looks out of place compared to all the other panels. Audience had trouble figuring out what is happening here. 3D perspective tends to shift the tone of the flow.
I need to rework/change the panels so that they connect to the previous and after panels.
2. CHARACTER DESIGN
My design for Simon’s Cat looks to over stylized compared to Simon’s simplistic style. So I was asked to change it up so that it resembles the character. So here’s my redesign:

Introduction to Adobe Audition
It’s basically like a magnified editing interface of any audio clip placed in Premiere Pro. Whatever change made in Premiere Pro is synced to Audition and vice versa. I remember when editing my backgrounds for MI4011, if I made a change to the jpeg file, that change would apply to the premiere pro project as well so I don’t have to keep editing the updated version in. It’s the same for Audition.
To edit the clip in Audition we have to right click and choose to edit in Adobe Audition, which then exports it to Audition.

David Fincher
07/05/2024
"Guess who's back, back again? Shady's back, tell a friend" (I had to type this. It felt right in my spirit)
Hey everyone! I'm back again to blog on MI4012. Most of the time I'm so busy and focused on MI4011 that I end up forgetting about the rest of the modules. But of course, this needs to change, and I need to stay in touch with the rest of the modules as well. Trying my best.
In this post I will be talking about a director I absolutely love 'David Fincher'. Fincher has directed some of my favorite thriller/suspense/psychological films like 'Gone Girl', 'Zodiac' and 'Seven' (The movie we watched in class last week)
To be honest, I'm a sucker for these types of films. It's not just about the genre. What makes these types of films so interesting to me are the plot, linear storytelling, acting and the feeling the scenes in the movie create.
Before I talk about David Fincher, I would like to note that I have watched this video by 'Studio Binder' to get a much better understanding of Fincher's style of directing.
youtube
After watching this video I learned a few things about Fincher's directing style. He sees importance in,
Blocking/ shot Composition
Relentless Scene Takes (He's known to be a director who records many takes of scenes when creating movies)
Directing with precision
Color Theory
Feeling (He wants to create the right moods and feelings in scenes. Specially through acting and set designs)
Like Fincher mentioned in the interview, shit composition plays an important part in film recording to show which character is taking charge of the scene.
e.g. - Gone girl - In the scene where Amy meets her husband for the first time, we see that the characters have a 50-50 share of the scene. once her husband starts talking or flirting, he takes away most of the screen space. This vice versa when Amy starts to take charge of the conversation.

Preparing for Stage 2 - Podcast (Part 1)
25/05/2024
Alright! So, submissions are getting closer by the minute, and we have a lot of work to do. Unfortunately, we have some last-minute workload that we weren't informed on. So, it's going to be hectic.
But it's alright! Let's stay calm and take everything step by step...
Stage 1 - Feedback
First off, let's start with the feedback we got for our 'Stage 1' presentations. Our lecturers had a listen to our "interview" (Because the stage 1 script sounded so formal...it wasn't a podcast.....it was an interview...)
Before we ended the presentation, I mentioned that the script was made last minute, and we recorded the audio in only one take. I mentioned that our group is aware that it sounds too scripted and that we will do a better job in time for 'stage 2'.
Our lecturer Dinendri gave us some good feedback saying that it sounds like a serious/formal interview and podcasts tend to be more towards the casual talking side. So, we had to sound less serious and work with our dynamic as a group.
Right after the presentations, our group had some motivation in us to do a much better job and we definitely wanted to redeem ourselves. So we recorded a short and energetic intro to the podcast.
You can have a listen to it down below!
such an energetic intro to shake up the stress of studying.... Maybe I'll take some time to do some editing to it later.
I'll have to be honest with you and say that, we took our time getting into the whole work in progress for the new script and podcast recording. Like I said, MI4011 had us on chokehold. It is what it is.
However, even though I'm late on updates, at least I'm updating the blog now. That's worth something.
Alright! That's it for this post. I'll be uploading a 'part 2' to this next where you can check out our last-minute research stuff, ideas and the recorded audio for 'stage 2'.
Thank you for reading~

Final Film Decision - Seven
21/05/2024
At first I thought I would have more than enough time to watch the 'Black Swan' film and analyze it. However, with the workload from MI4011 I hardly have time to even watch a You Tube video.
So I have to stick to my initial plan.
I've done some research to find articles that might support me in my essay points. I will add the links down below.
Persona of Se7en
2. Seven - Medieval justice, Modern justice (This is to get an insight on the books Somerset read in the liberary scene.
https://academicworks.cuny.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1203&context=jj_pubs
I'll be reading through the presentation slides on 'Mise un scene' and 'Intro to film editing' to brush up on my knowledge.
