When things were easier

You belong to Earth. You belong to Vulcan. No. Humans do not belong to Vulcan. You are a stranger. You don’t belong here. You don’t belong anywhere! Thoughts spinningn through her head like it was a carousel, leaving no space for anything else but doubts. Carousels. Something that didn’t existed on this desert planet, something that Amelia missed somehow —  as she missed her friends. Most of the people who lived here avoided to take notice of the brunette girl, others gave her nothing but wary looks, not accepting that such as her family were allowed to study her culture. It was the second time the Johnsons stayed here —  her parents promising that it would be only for a few months. And then? Moving again? Leaving everything behind, pretending that it didn’t mattered? Of course it was important what they did, especially since they were scientists, trying to deepen the friendship between the human race and those pointy ears, doing reasearch work and ambassadorial things, but how should a young child cope with the frequent lack of a real friendship? Text and video messages couldn’t replace trips to parks, walk alongs or just sitting together and eating ice cream! Amelia kicked a little rock with her dusty boot, staring into endless red of the dead valley underneath her —  just a handrail seperating her from the abyss. If she could only help, if she could only do something usefull! The brunette wanted to be more than some anthropologists child who wasn’t able to find a proper activity for herself! She was thirteen, damnit! Filled up with anger and frustration, not even the sweet taste of her favorite chocolate icecream could help her to cope with this situation.
