Even when he painted in outdoor setting, with ordinary people as his sitters, Sargent still painted the clothes exquisitely. I didn’t realize before how much he liked fashion and how much attention he paid to the clothes’ details.

A giant Lego wave sits at the center of the MFA’s new Hokusai exhibition. Hokusai: Inspiration and Influence opens March 26 and runs through July 16. . This center room juxtaposes the master’s “Great Wave” print with a myriad of works inspired by it. You’ll notice an iconic Lichtenstein just opposite the case. #igersboston #mfaboston #hokusai #ukiyo #lego (at MFA Boston) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqQmXTSOaR5/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Dead Blogging the New Cy Twombly Exhibit at MFABoston
Well the Missus and I trundled over to The Fens yesterday to catch Making Past Present: Cy Twombly (through May 7) at the Museum of Fine Arts and say, it was swell except for the parts that were head-scratching. More on that later. Here’s how the MFA’s overview of the exhibit begins Unique among his peers at the vanguard of postwar American art, Cy Twombly (1928–2011) sought inspiration from…

It turned out to be a perfect day for us to visit the Museum of Fine Arts Boston to see the exhibit, “Flowers of Summer and Fall” from the collections of the Arts of South Asia. Our Nic Roth, Visual Resources Librarian for Islamic Art and Architecture, worked with Laura Weinstein, Curator of South Asian and Islamic Art at MFA Boston on this exhibit. We were all mesmerized to see highly detailed works on paper depicting exquisite flowers, fruits, and trees. We learned about lotus, jasmine, and Pride of Barbados, speculated some stories behind them, and just enjoyed immersing ourselves in beauty, which we all appreciated today.
Thanks, Laura and Nic for giving us a tour of the exhibit!

Do you think writing whilst wearing this silk dressing gown would make you more creative? I would love to find out. Woman's "kimono" style dressing gown is Japanese, created for the Western market, c.1900. The retailer was based in Kyoto. The pale cherry blossom pink gown is a silk plain weave (taffeta) embroidered with polychrome silk and a tasseled trim sash. From the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. @MFABoston

“Ganesh[a], the elephant-headed god of good fortune and auspicious beginnings, sits enthroned with his wives on his thighs. One wife may be Riddhi, ‘prosperity,’ holding a lotus, and the other Siddhi, ‘accomplishment,’ carrying a bowl of sweets. Below, the rat, Ganesh's vahana (complement) nibbles at a sweet that has fallen from the bowl.”

MFABoston's Romance With NFTs: Not Fiscally Tangible, Maybe?
MFABoston’s Romance With NFTs: Not Fiscally Tangible, Maybe?
The other day the hardworking staff received this email from Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts. Not to get technical about it, but we don’t have a digital collection of NFTs, mostly because they’re the pet rocks of the art world. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. Last year the Boston Globe’s Malcolm Gay reported on the origins of the MFA’s NFT fling. ‘Someone had to move first’: MFA plans sale…
