An alternate version of the sun myth. The Earth goddess Coatlicue was impregnated by a ball of feathers. Her pregnancy angered her daughter, Coyolxauhqui, who plotted to kill her. But Huitzilopochtli burst from his mother fully grown and radiant, and defended her from his sister. He decapitated Coyolxauhqui and threw her head into the sky where it became the moon.
