#mettaton fought me tooth and nail

A muffled noise rings from your pocket. Moving carefully so as not to disturb the foils in your hair, you fish your phone out. Oh, it’s Alphys. You have a sneaking suspicion as to what she’s calling about. “Hey, what’s up?” 

“Um, hi Shore, uh. I’m sorry, this is going to sound uh, really random but ah. Mettaton’s not with you, is he?” 

You glance to your left. Mettaton has his head back, clearly enjoying his facial treatment delivered via power tools to his temple and the buffing of his nails. “He’s right next to me, actually.” 

Alphys swears, which is a rare thing indeed.

ALSO I am showing this piece off because it is very relevant to this chapter. It inspired the ending scene and was drawn by the absolutely amazing @cipher-the-sidhe

It still pisses me off to no end that Mettaton didn't get a proper spot in the finale. He WANTED the pacifist run!!! He tells you to your face that he doesn't want to kill you but he feels he has to to stop Asgore from reigniting the war, the life of one human to save the lives of every other human out there! He confesses that he wanted so badly not to kill you that he tried hiring others to do it for him but eventually realized it wasn't going to work! He tries so hard to do what he thinks is best for both human and monsterkind- giving the monsters a fun show to distract them from the ever growing chance of war and to try to stop Asgore from killing all the humans on the surface! He's the character that, no matter which playthrough you try, gets mangled and ripped apart literally limb by limb trying to hold to his convictions! And his last words to you before his batteries die is that he was wrong, he doesn't have to force himself to go against his morals to be some sort of savior, that he can just be an entertainer like he always wanted to be without unneeded pressure or responsibilities he's not ready or cut out for, and he tells you he believes in you and your ability to make it out alive despite everything! And then. At the end of the game. He doesn't get to be saved. He shows up for 2 seconds max in the finale. Sure he reconnects with his family at the end but you have to go out of your way to see him, whereas everyone else gets to stand with you and support you as you go to the surface. I cannot express that as much as I love this game Mettaton deserved his fucking spot in the finale and I will forever be mad that he got thrown to the sidelines during the ending he fought tooth and nail for
