“Enzan no Metsuke”

I've grew up in the mountains.
Whenever I hear people talk about Enzan no Metsuke they always reference a mountain.
In my daily world, mountains are infinite.
When you've climbed a mountain and attained enlightenment, it turns out to be only the first peak; overlooking a vast landscape of more mountains.
Looking behind you, you see the same peaks and valleys you climbed on the way up.
Your journey will never end at the top of the mountain.
To observe your opponent as if viewing a distant mountain, limitless focus.
This is the view I imagine. Not a mountain, but a vast landscape of mountains. The view is so wide, you can't resolve a single mountain, because within you focal point lies 20 mountains.
The view of your opponents entire being.
The continental divide.

"Miss Guuji of Asase Shrine is brilliant of mind, eloquent of speech, and gorgeous of appearance. That must be why the human her was able to attract the attention of the in-humans...
I mean, who wouldn't be jealous of someone like her?
Still, she could be so cold sometimes!

May 11- Hakone Day Trip
Today we went to Hakone on a day trip. We took the romance car which was pretty fun and smooth but the AC wasn’t working so it was pretty hot unfortunately. When we got there we got to take the really steep train which was really cool but it took awhile. Then the cable car was also nice but it just felt like another train. I really enjoyed the Gondola actually because it was nice to see everything and take pictures. Once we got to the top of the mountain it was so beautiful and Mt.Fuji looked so good. The whole egg thing was very interesting but they did have soft serve at the top that was made of egg so it tasted like custard. It was soooo good I wish I could have another one. After that we took another Gondola down and got to ride across the port on a pirate ship. It was really nice and so beautiful. The water with the mountains was so pretty I took a lot of pics. Then we went to the shrine that has the famous gate on the water. It was very cool and pretty and I wish I could’ve taken a picture there but the line was too long. Then we took the romance car back home and I was super tired.
Academic Reflection:
Visiting the Hakone Sekisho really exemplified the points in the article of strict surveillance. The visual displays really immersed me and brought to life what the strict travel regulations were like. The kutsu metsuke would have worked in an environment like the one we were looking at. The practice of the kutsu metsuke exemplified the regulation and ritual that was heavily emphasized in the Tokugawa governance. There were a lot of checkpoints put in places to make sure everything was regulated and we visited one of the Edo period checkpoints that was a place of inspection to enforce these regulations. It is interesting how they wanted to control everything down to even a little aspect such as footwear. Seeing a checkpoint up close was really cool and learning about all of the rules and traditions you have to follow really emphasized these matching points in the article. Additionally, visiting the Hakone shrine was cool and added to the understanding of the travelers because they would likely stop at those kinds of shrines and pray on the way to their destinations.

Danganronpa Showa: Prologue Part 3
<Prev <<First AO3
It was when we approached the next school building, the darkness of the cavern again preventing me from discerning that much about it, that we encountered another figure. A student mostly dressed in a white suit save for his black waistcoat, with checkered light-and-dark-brown lines running along his lapels. His swept hair was a dark purple at the crown but grew gradually lighter to lilac then silver as it neared the tips. I was surprised to see him holding a cane and wearing a monocle, one whose rim was shaped like a looking-glass, despite his youth. "Why hello there, so nice to meet another in preparation for gathering at, well, what I assume will be the opening ceremony," Toranosuke strode forth to be first to greet him. The purple-haired boy however just sighed at him and brushed him off. "Ishimaru Toranosuke, yes I know who you are," he said before he turned his gaze to the rest of us, "Benibara, Sakamoto, Enoshima, Schulz, Katsu, I hardly need your introductions. I fail to see why I should divulge much about myself, but for now I'll say that I'm Kirigiri Fuhito, heir to the metsuke-descended Kirigiri Detective lineage, and here at Hope's Peak as the Ultimate De... Detec... Ultimate...". This Fuhito went from cold and composed to caught on his words, before he finally brought himself to say, "I'm here as the... Ultimate Librarian". "Hmm, strange that a Hope'sPeakUltimate would feel that way about their own talent..." Hildegard could only respond to that. "Pfft, says the broad who won't even tell hers," Genpachi muttered back. "I have enough faith in Hope's Peak to assume this is a simple miscalculation," Fuhito said as he gritted his teeth, "That naturally I was to be the Ultimate Detective, and either it will be sorted in due time, or some sabotage is afoot". "Ah, I assure you, Kirigiri, an institution such as Hope's Peak makes no mistakes, at least not when it comes to cataloguing Talent," Toranosuke told him, but those words only sharpened Fuhito's scowl. "Sacre bleu! Then you must rebel against zis injustice and-" proclaimed a girl with scraggy dark red hair, wearing a dark green jacket over white tights, as she drew a needle-like sword. That was before she analysed the situation a little more closely, then just shrugged. "Oh wait, is zis just about the school not saying you had le Talent you wanted, no? Oh boohoo, I thought for a second zis was about somezing actually important". I was worried Fuhito was about to leap at her. "What- You would call being denied recognition as the ultimate detective nothing?" he hissed. This girl however remained unfazed and told him, "When it comes to an aristo like you, I honestly couldn't care. Ah right, I suppose I should introduce le me. Sisters and Brothers, I am le Ultimate Resistance Fighter, Jeanne de Chevalier!" Wait, hadn't France been our enemy? I glanced over Hildegard expecting her to share my confusion, and yet... she looked oddly relieved. Huh, maybe I was worrying too much? Chevalier then eyed the rest of us up; after Fuhito she pointed out Toranosuke and said, "Hmm, you I do not like," then at Genpachi, "You I shall have to keep a watch on," then Momoka, "Hmm, you seem harmless," then at me, "Eh, you're alright I guess," then at Hildegard, "You are suspicious, no?" then lastly at Yudai, "Ah, you are le Ultimate Jailbreaker, no? Good, because I am here to say zat I would've stolen your title when I escaped upon being sent to Japan... had not le War ended before I could". At that boast, Yudai just let out a hearty laugh and said, "Yeah, sure ya could've". At least that explained what she was doing this far from France. I would've asked her myself, but well, like with Genpachi and smuggling I'd worried it wasn't a topic for a first meeting. It was then however nothing less than a tank, if a rusted and mid-repairs one, burst out of the doors to the North Building. All of us jumped back save Chevalier, who just stood there smirking with her arms folded.

Aspiration
A sensei once told me to “stop standing on my skeleton.” He meant that I was locked into position and stiff, so if attacked, I would not be able to react smoothly and effectively. Later, another sensei introduced me to “Enzan no Metsuke”—gazing at the mountains. Rather than fixedly watching an opponent, you observe the larger picture—instead of watching his eyes or the sword, you observe the…
