On My Radar: 8.31.19
Tumblr media
LOVE: Beach vibes all weekend long as we celebrate one last summer holiday weekend. We love this photo from Annie Richardson who is sharing new work on her Instagram feed.
MEET: Rooted in tradition, there is an unmistakable modern air about Melissa Rufty’s work. Each project seems to tell a story through a carefully curated melding of family heirlooms, interesting color combinations, beautifully patterned fabrics and soulful accessories. To see this play out, visit Melissa Rufty’s Instagram to see a fishing camp of dreams that she has been busy installing all summer.
VISIT: Did you know that Poke Loa in South Market has a full bar? This is a quick and easy place to stop on your way to the Superdome for a Saints game or the Arena for a concert.
LEARN: Metairie Park Country Day School presents Kalpana, Odissi Dance by Bijayini Satpathy on September 28 from 6:00 - 7:30 pm in Country Day's Weinmann Auditorium. Experience Bijayini Satpathy's illuminating classical Indian dance, an art form Bijayini choreographs to the second with light and movement. Read what the New York Times says about her performance here. Please register by clicking here.
WANT: Tara Shaw’s new book, “Soul of the Home: Designing with Antiques” debuts this Spring but is now available for pre-order.  The book contains never-before-published spaces from Shaw’s portfolio and reveals her favorite antique-hunting spots throughout Europe.

What to Wear, Buy and Hear at Art in Bloom
Tumblr media
From one event to the next…that’s how we roll here in NOLA! With the transfer of glitter to ashes brings the annual rite of spring: Art in Bloom at the New Orleans Museum of Art. And what better way to celebrate the blossoming gardens of New Orleans than with flowers, art and music?
Still recovering from spring travel and Mardi Gras mayhem? We’ve got you covered. This blog is all you need to read to find out what to wear, buy and hear at Art in Bloom this month.
Tumblr media
The highly anticipated Art in Bloom Patron Party will take place Wednesday evening, March 15, followed by a preview party of the displays. This year’s theme is “Rhythm & Blooms”, celebrating the role music plays in New Orleans. The event is chaired by two of my favorite people: Quincy Crawford and Sarah Feirn. Together with their committee, including our very own Anna Schaefer of Angle Events, I know they have a magical night up their sleeves. This is the most fun fundraiser, and I know its a hard one to top each year!  Buy your tickets here.
“We are lucky to have so many artists – both musical and visual – in New Orleans, and even luckier to have so many of them represented in this year’s Art in Bloom: Rhythm & Blooms,” says event co-chair Quincy Crawford. “We can’t wait to see how music, flowers and art come together in this beautiful event. It’s truly a celebration of New Orleans’ vibrant arts culture, and the beginning of spring in the city!”

WHAT TO SEE
ART AUCTION
The Patron Party Wednesday night features a big silent auction to benefit the museum and this year the auction items are too good to pass up. We’ve searched the entire silent auction deck and our favorite is this painting by Annie Richardson Art. (For the first time, the silent auction is going to be online, too. So if you can’t make it, you can still bid here.)
You will also find a painting by Hunt Slonem, entitled “Cockatoos & Ginger”, which is featured on the invitation cover. George Dunbar, who currently has selected works exhibited in the museum, will also donate an item to the silent auction.
TABLESCAPES
I am always eager to see what The Plant Gallery and Dunn & Sonnier create for their floral displays. Last year, Kenny and his team outdid themselves with the Mardi Gras Indian headdress, and one of my all time favorites has always been Stephen Sonnier’s gumbo, made entirely with flowers.
So Susu and Pilot + Powell will interpret fashion through flowers and I’ll also have my eyes peeled for what I know will be a great display by the kids of Metairie Park Country Day School.
I can’t wait to see and hear the talent from exhibitors like The 610 Stompers, Jeremy Davenport, and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation and the Mardi Gras Indians Council. Their music will add another wonderful dimension to this spectacular event!
EAT
The Patron and Preview Party features cuisine and libations from 30 top New Orleans restaurants, including my favorite, Cavan. Everything coming out of the kitchen has been pretty fab so if you haven’t had a chance to visit their location on Magazine Street, make sure you sample away at AIB!
WHAT TO WEAR
Susu Stall, owner of New Orleans’ newest designer boutique, So Susu, has been known for her philanthropic support of the New Orleans Museum of Art, and this year she is taking it to the next level. Ten percent of sales from March 12th -15th will be donated to Art in Bloom. The designers include Samantha Sung, Tanya Taylor, Dovima Paris, Tata Naka and more. She has some amazing things in store so head over to 3427 Magazine Street and shop local for a cause. Here’s just a small roundup of what we scouted for you.

BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL
And if patterns aren’t your thing, then we are loving these solids from Elle Boutique.
Tumblr media
No matter what your shade or style is, Elle Boutique has something for everyone like this cobalt dress by Black Halo, Bailey 44′s Have it All Dress in white, or this aquamarine showstopper by Likely.
NOT YOUR BASIC BLACK DRESS
Tumblr media
I love these Nanette Lapore dresses from Polite Society, which give black a little touch of springtime!
And because with every big night out on the town comes a blow out and a manicure, make sure to schedule your hair appointments with Greg Pike at Polite Society or the Blanc Beauty Bar team including: Linzy Pennington, Jonathon Baxter, Meghan Doyle, Jenna Perritt and Kiara Reeves.
Tumblr media
If you can’t make it to the party, the displays will be available to view through the weekend of March 19th at NOMA. You can purchase your tickets here!
