Let's Play Getting to Know Alana (Stolen from a TikTok)
Footballer who made you fall in love with the game
First Favourite Footballer
Footballer who brings you the most comfort
Footballer who's smile lights up your day
Footballer you miss seeing at your club
Footballer you miss the most
Footballer You Would Defend Your Life for
Yesssss i was hoping i'd get one of these!
A very common one but its easily ronaldinho. this MF made the sport look like so much fun. every second he was on the ball i just couldn't look away because WOW. you could just see the love he had for the sport from the way he played the game
2. Thomas Muller. again probably a really common one but he was and still is a fascinating player. for someone to be able to do so much with simply the mastery of the basics was so cool to see. and you can't talk about muller without talking about his shithousery cos no one does it as well as him. poking fun at a rival while making it crystal clear that he has no malicious intentions is hard to to but he manages it perfectly. he always just brought a smile to my face whenever he was on the pitch (and when i heard him yelling off the pitch)
3. i think something about luka modric brings me a lot of comfort. he's enigmatic on the ball and a phenomenal leader. the way he lead croatia throughout their international tournament run made him so likeable and respectable. i just couldn't help but root for him. he deserves every ounce of success he's had and much more. that ballon d'or couldn't have gone to a better person, its been an honour to watch him play.
4. the one and only... Yassine bounou. he's just a lovely human being. he seems like such a kind and warm person that i can't help but adore him. you couldn't hate him if you tried. from opposition to referees, he just sets such a good example to those around him. he's achieved astounding things in the past few years and i've loved seeing him get recognition for it recently. he's got an infectious positivity about him and i think it's just a good influence on everyone. we all need someone like him in our lives imo
5. without a doubt robert lewandowski. i think we all remember his iconic 5 goals in 9 minutes but even aside from that he was phenomenal for us. we're still feeling the brunt of his exit and its painful knowing that we would probably be in a much better position if we could rely on him as a striker.
6. bro's only been gone for a short while but mesut ozil. this man made me so proud as a muslim because of how well he did everywhere he went. i think what hurts most about his retirement is just the sequence of events that lead to it. knowing that he put his heart and soul into playing for germany and the treatment he received when they were underperforming broke my heart. he deserved so much better and i always wonder what could have been if he'd been cut the same slack other players had been given.
7. there r a few players in contention for this so i'll give you the top 2.
Hakim Ziyech because this guy could make 10 key passes a match and he'd still be seen as the worst player on the pitch by chelsea fanboys. somehow he's always to blame. the man was spectacular for ajax and he's spectacular for morocco. i dont understand how when he doesnt perform at chelsea, he's the one at fault. how when the whole team underperforms, he's the one that gets singled out. he deserves better than the hand he's been dealt. he's a star, he's proven that time and time again.
the other one is gavi. similar to hakim, its just the disproportionate level of hatred he receives genuinely makes my blood boil. this guy is 18 years old, its his first full season of professional football. yet somehow his weaknesses are viewed as complete deal breakers from the get go. he constantly being compared to players who are many years older than him as if thats any evidence that he doesnt deserve to be where he is. i genuinely cannot imagine how hard things must be for him because this level of scrutiny simply isnt fair. he's got at least 16 years of playing left in him. he's got a good working attitude and will probably be able to play for much longer than that. he's a work-in-progress and people r treating him like he's 35 years old and done nothing.

Ain’t She Great? (Mesut Özil imagine )
===========================================================
The ending of a game to some is enjoyable, but the ending of the game to others is also dreadful. Well not completely dreadful, more so like antagonizing; and only so because of the press conferences, and the media table as well as the winners corner with their long talks.
Quiet frankly Mesut hated this part not only for the reason listed earlier, but also because it meant time away from his wife, Y/N. The two of you had just gotten married in a Winter Wonderland Wedding, in the early New Year and even though it being only the third week of the New Year everything from that day and night were still fresh inside both of your minds.
Most of the times Mesut avoided being the one sent to the media talk time, and he was able to avoid it almost 99 percent of the time. But it seemed like today just like with what happened on the pitch, and by that I mean Mesut not wanting to be seen on the pitch by the linesmen as he snuck behind, he was spotted by coach.
“Mesut, seems like today’s your lucky day” He said jokingly
Mesut sighed, “So excited” Mesut replied standing up and grabbing his backpack
He made his long trek towards the conference room for the first round of post game chit-chat.
Taking his seat, he waited for the announcer to announce his presence as well as open the floor to questions. “Mesut!Mesut what did you think about today’s formation and having Matteo on the pitch?” One reporter asked
Sitting up he sighed, “Um today’s formation is one that we’d been working on in practice for a while, and decided that we’d perfected it, which showed on the pitch. As for having Matteo on the pitch, he’s got talent and he’s all over the place which is a really good thing for the team it’s somewhat of what we need to progress.” Mesut answered
It went on like this for a bit them asking questions, and Mesut’s boredom and impatience began to seep through his answers.
When it came to another question, which really wasn’t another one because it seemed like some of them were recycling questions from their colleagues, Mesut stared at them blankly. “You know I got married a few weeks ago” He blurted out
And in turn he got some pretty confused looks, but continued anyways, “Yeah, I tied the knot after what 4 years of dating. The wedding was great, it was somewhat of our own version of Winter Wonderland.”
“And my wife Y/N, wow you guys should’ve been there, verbally speaking. Her dress was beautiful but you know what she’s was breathtaking, it was like seeing an angle walk down the aisle. “As Mesut spoke some of the reporters were typing down what he was saying and others were just listening waiting for an answer to the previous question.
“To be honest she really is like an angel, sweet, kind, lovable, gives the best advice and guidance to any and everyone. I mean there’s not one person that we know that can say anything bad about her because she’s always helping. Actually funny side-story, after that game against Liverpool that we lost Y/N spent her time making cupcakes and cookies for the guys and I to cheer us up.” Mesut smiled, “Isn’t she just amazing” He asked
As Mesut finished up his admiration of you someone in the back of the room coughed a little, “Alright guys we’re just going to send Mesut on his way as you can see he’s a bit exhausted from the game” They said
The guy nodded at Mesut who smiled back, and got up collecting his backpack. Once he was out of the conference room he stretched his arms, “Oh am I ready to sleep” He muttered
Walking out of the stadium he made it to his car, and drove to the house. As soon as he opened the door the delicious scent of what was for dinner is what hit his nose, you were known to be a big cook. You loved cooking, and vowed to teach Mesut since he was always trying to copy recipe; that in result didn’t end very well.
He wandered into the kitchen a smile on his face once his eyes landed on you, your back was turned to him as you looked over the pot and stirred it once more before lowering the heat. “Do you know how much I love the sight of you?” Mesut asked
You turned looking at him with a hand on your hip, “You’re in trouble Mister” You said pointing at him
Mesut raised an eyebrow as he stared at you the smile still on his face, “What am I in trouble for exactly? I put the seat down, and I washed my dishes this morning” He said
You chuckled, “That’s not why you’re in trouble, but thank you for doing basic human tasks” You told him
This made his eyebrows furrow in confusion, “So what is it that I’m in trouble for then?” He asked
“Your post game interview”
“Oh, you mean the one that I talked all about you in?” He asked leaning on the island
You nodded your head, “How come you can’t just answer their questions?” You asked tilting your head
Mesut sighed, “Cause they’re boring, it’s the same questions everyday and sometimes they ask questions that I can’t even answer. So I might as well talk about someone that I know all the answers about” He said
You smiled at him, “It was a very sweet and cute interview, but you gotta answer their questions from now on” You asked of him
Mesut nodded his head looking down at you, “Alright, I’ll answer their questions”
“Great now go wash up so we can eat some dinner” You said shooing him away
“Can’t I just eat like this?”
“Nope now let’s get moving sassy frass”

Best Friends Wedding
mesut özil if u have the chance? I walked through our apartment, it was the day of Mesut's best friends wedding. We were so excited to finally see our friends getting married. I walked in the bedroom and saw him fixing his hair. "You look nice babe" I smiled as I walked past him. "Oh thank you, don't look to bad yourself" He winked. I put a pink summery dress on.. "Is this okay for the wedding babe?" I asked Mesut as I pointed to my zip for him to do it up. "Yes you look beautiful, give me a twirl" Mesut laughed as I twirled in my position. Mesut had a big grin appear on his face. Mesut was still adjusting his hair while I was putting on my lipstick. "I love that babe" He said as he looked at my lipstick "Thanks babe, you love complimenting me today don't you. I am very grateful for how cute you are being today" I kissed him on his cheek as he wiped my pink lipstick of off his cheek. He rolled his eyes. Mesut took me by my arm as we headed as our car was outside. I grabbed my bag as it was quite a drive to the venue of the wedding. "This is going to be such a long drive, I am so excited to see them both get married" I smiled as Mesut nodded as he snapped some selfies. Once we got to the venue, Mesut took my hand into your hand as we got to our seats to watch the ceremony. "This looks beautiful doesn't it, I love the mint theme to everything." I said as I admired the decoration of the room. "You are a sucker for anything green that is why, I hope you aren't getting any ideas babe" Mesut winked. Everyone was now taking their seats and chatting before the bride walked down the aisle. "Wow she looks amazing" I muttered as the bride walked down the aisle looking absolutely beautiful. I felt so proud to be watching my best friends getting married. The ceremony was absolutely wonderful, all I could think through the ceremony was how I wanted that to be me and Mesut very soon. Mesut grabbed my arm and linked it together. We had some pictures together and everyone was chatting. We walked over to the happy couple and took some pictures together. "Congratulations you two! You look so pretty I cant believe it" I smiled as I hugged her. "Thank you so much. I am so happy you could come" I kissed her cheek. It was now time for the first dance after we had the meal. It was so nice to see them dance. "That was so romantic and beautiful wasn't it" I smiled at Mesut as I kissed his cheek. "It was so sweet wasn't it. Maybe we will wait for it to be ours" I nodded. "Yes I want it to be us soon" I winked. Once the dance was over, everyone was allowed on the dance floor and it was just so romantic It was so beautiful. We had such a lovely day at our best friends wedding.

Every Premier League club’s most famous fan
Who does the Queen support? Here's your team's A-list supporter…
Georgi Kinkladzi is still friends with the Gallagher brothers to this day. The ex-Manchester City playmaker got chatting to the Oasis lads back in the 90s and he told FFT this issue that he was impressed by the pair's fanatical devotion to the club.
“Oasis always had my respect, as they were die-hard City supporters and wouldn’t miss a match unless they were on tour,” Kinkladze said. And these Rock N Roll Stars aren't alone - incredibly famous people follow the Premier League, just like the rest of us.
So who’s your club’s biggest fan? And we mean fan – someone who actually attends games and screams at the telly, not just an A-list actor who was presented with a shirt once.
Arsenal
Take your pick. Arsenal are followed by politicians (Keir Starmer, John Bercow, Jeremy Corbyn), comedians (Dara O’Briain, Matt Lucas, Alan Davies) and actors (Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Daisy Ridley) alike. They’ve even got infamous supporters who disgrace the rest of the bunch – see Osama Bin Laden and Piers Morgan.
While Jay-Z and Chris Martin have visited the Emirates in recent years, there isn’t much proof that the pair are diehards. Likewise, Prince Harry reportedly supports Arsenal but hasn’t spoken as much about football as his brother, William. Rihanna was friends with Mesut Ozil, but we’d wager that she hasn’t been through the hardships of the Nicklas Bendtner days to truly call herself a Gooner.
In terms of proper Arsenal fans who are genuinely excited about Gabriel Martinelli, the most famous is probably Idris Elba. Luther himself helped run the 'No More Red' campaign of this season and appeared in a kit launch video for the club's 2019/20 kit, claiming “I could’ve played for Arsenal you know,” before telling his mates that he was top scorer at Under-9 level for Canning Town. Perhaps Mikel Arteta’s found a long-term replacement for Alex Lacazette…
Aston Villa
As the biggest club in a major UK city, it’s understandable that Aston Villa have plenty of notable followers. Three-quarters of Black Sabbath, actor David Bradley and even former PM David Cameron all follow the claret and blue – though Cameron did once forget which team he supported and claim to be a Hammer instead.
But in terms of who takes the title of the most famous, it’s hard to argue with Prince William. He seems to genuinely loves the club, looked mightily upset when handing runners-up medals to his team in the 2015 FA Cup final and has gone on record about how much he loves Aston Villa. He’s president of the FA too, which is more of a credential than most of us have to prove we love the beautiful game.
Is he the most famous fan though? Tom Hanks is apparently a big Villa fan – since 2001, no less. And only one of them played Forrest Gump...
Bournemouth
Bournemouth isn't exactly a big town – and its club aren't particularly big, either. Many residents actually support Southampton, so picking a most famous fan is a tough ask. Seth Rogan is apparently a Cherry, but is he actually?
Probably not. Former Celebrity Masterchef champion is reportedly a fan, too – it's doubtful just how big, though, considering she's not from the area. Alex James from Blur said he was a fan on Soccer AM once, so we'll give it him – partly because the only other big shout is for Matt Tong, the drummer from Bloc Party, who used to be on the AFCB fan forum. It's slim pickings, unfortunately.
Brentford
Cameron Diaz is apparently a Brentford fan. That's pretty impressive - though it's reported that the Hollywood A-lister is a Bee thanks to restauranteur Dan Tana, so it's unlikely she'd be able to pick Thomas Frank out of a line-up.
Greg Dyke is a fan of Brentford (though it's claimed he also follows Man United), Dean Gaffney from Eastenders supports the club too, while Phil Collins used to watch the Bees before getting a season ticket at QPR. Ex-Sky Sports presenter Natalie Sawyer and Yes keyboard Rick Wakeman are both fans, too: we like to imagine them sat together.
Though they're not the most famous people individually, however, we're going to give the title to Hard Fi's Richard Archer and The Bluetones' Adam Devlin as a joint bid, since their devotion is perhaps stronger than anyone else's. Their bands are quite famous, too – more when combined – and together they recorded a song dedicated to ex-winger Jota.
Brighton & Hove Albion
One name comes to mind when you think of Brighton fans. Well, two, depending on whether you call him Norman Cook or Fatboy Slim. He’s the town’s most famous export and has played gigs at the Amex.
Cook is in good company though. Des Lynam, Jon Snow (from the news, not Game of Thrones) and Simon Cowell are all Seagulls, though Cowell has admitted his is more of a passing interest than a full-blown fanatical devotion. Jamie Theakston and Michael Fish complete a who’s who of yesteryear faces who also follow the Albion.
Chelsea
Situated in one of the poshest areas of London, it’s perhaps no surprise that Chelsea can count Natalie Dormer, Jeremy Clarkson, Mark Ronson, Ellie Goulding, Gordon Ramsey and Cara Delevigne as Blues fanatics. Damon Albarn from Gorillaz has had a season ticket most of his adult life too, and even led a chant at a gig in Belgium, in tribute to Eden Hazard.
In terms of the most famous fan, Will Ferrell is up there: he’s appeared at Soccer Aid and now owns Los Angeles FC, so it’s genuine support, rather than wanting to look cool and fit in with other celebrities. But even Ron Burgundy probably can’t argue with Alfie.
Michael Caine has followed the west Londoners through the thin as well as the thick, famously telling a reporter once that he was off to watch the Blues on his “big high def” telly. Not a lot of people know that.
Crystal Palace
Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan was apparently once shocked when star of Schindler’s List, Star Wars and Taken, Liam Neeson, phoned him asking for tickets to Selhurst Park. There are conflicting reports regarding Neeson’s penchant for Liverpool too, but there are other stars who are confirmed Eagles fans.
Comedian Eddie Izzard once claimed, “All I really want is for Crystal Palace to win every game from now until the end of time - that's all”; two of The Inbetweeners follow Palace too (Simon Bird and James Buckley) and Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid sang Wilfried Zaha’s “He's just too good for you” chant on air after he had been called up to the England squad. Apparently, even Nigel Farage is a Palace fan.
Bill Nighy has to be the most famous, though. The Love Actually star is patron of the CPFRIS (Crystal Palace FC Fast Results & Information Service) Disabled Children’s Club and one Christmas, he addressed the Palace faithful, speaking of his pride to be an Eagle.
Everton
Beatle Paul McCartney grew up an Everton fan but later admitted he supports local rivals Liverpool as well, given his connection to the city and some of the Reds’ biggest stars. Macca says that he has “special dispensation from the Pope”, but it does weaken his shout for the most famous Toffees fan around, even if he was in the most famous band of all time.
Rocky star Sylvester Stallone is reportedly a big enough fan of Everton to regret not buying them in 2007. His boxer pal Tony Bellew is a diehard toffee himself, but perhaps not the most well-known of celebrities to follow them. Nicola Roberts from Girls Aloud, Amanda Holden, Shane MacGowan and John McEnroe could all be considered pretty famous Blues.
But perhaps the best bid belongs to Judi Dench. Not only is M herself a big fan along with her husband and son, she’s a patron of Everton's official charity, Everton in the Community.
Fulham
Fulham have a surprisingly famous fanbase. Rather like Chelsea, they're situated in west London – but still, boasting the likes of Hugh Grant, Barry from Eastenders, Richard Osman, Keith Chegwin and Eminem (apparently) is impressive.
The most famous, though? It's not even close: Margot Robbie has said she's a Fulham fan and been pictured with a Whites' scarf. Given that she's actually been spotted at the Cottage a few times too, it seems fair to give her the title.
Leeds United
Leeds is a one-club city, making Leeds United massively supported. The Kaiser Chiefs are named after Leeds legend Lucas Radebe's former club, while Nasser Hussain, Nick Faldo and Ken Hom all follow the Whites.
There are certainly big shouts for the most famous. Chris Moyles was the biggest radio DJ in Britain at one point, Ed Miliband almost became PM – and actually didn't share his liking of football much as he feared it would count against him at the polls – while Gareth Gates, Jeremy Paxman and Jon Bon Jovi have all been counted in the Elland Road faithful in the past.
But the winner? Russell Crowe. The Kiwi-born actor narrated Leeds documentary Take Us Home but he's actually a massive supporter, having followed them for years. "I used to come home from sport in the afternoon, me and my brother, and watch Match of the Day," Maximus Decimus Meridius himself once claimed. He will see them win the Premier League one day – in this life or the next.
Leicester City
Mention the words “Leicester City” and one man comes to mind. Gary Lineker doesn’t just take the crown of Leicester’s most famous fan and player, but their most famous son while he’s at it. His dad owned a market stall in the town centre and on uni open days at Leicester University, students are shown where Linekers’ parents live en route to the accommodation. The man basically runs the city.
Lineker isn’t the only talented footballer with allegiances to Leicester. Kasabian guitarist Sergio Pizzorno is not just a decent player – as proven on Soccer Aid and Soccer AM – he’s so crazy about his club that he wore their socks when having trials with another club. Serge’s close friend and Mighty Boosh star Noel Fielding is supposedly a Colchester fan, though.
Leicester can also count Manish Bhasin from BBC Sport in their fanbase, crooner Engelbert Humperdink and Lib Dem politician Lembit Opik. The 2003 rugby hero Martin Johnson is also Leicester born and bred, meaning Lineker isn’t the only famous England World Cup star from the area.
Liverpool
When you’ve been the kings of Europe six times, you’re bound to pick up some big admirers: still, boasting Nelson Mandela, Angelina Jolie, Samuel L Jackson, and LeBron James is taking the biscuit.
That’s not all. Dr Dre has been a fan since 1988 – perhaps he’s heard John Barnes rap – but given that he said he “read about” their 2001 UEFA Cup win, he’s perhaps not the biggest Red. Gary Barlow counts himself a Liverpool fan but given Take That pal Robbie Williams’s links to Soccer Aid, if he was as big a fan as Robbie, we’d probably all know about it.
US songstress Lana Del Rey has claimed that she loved watching Luis Suarez play and got into Liverpool a few years ago. While that’s pretty cool, we’re going to give the most famous Red to Daniel Craig. When meeting the likes of Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah, he looked genuinely starstruck, which is impressive considering he has a license to kill.
Manchester City
There's only one team in Manchester, so the old joke goes. Pick almost any famous face from the city and you'll fine they might be blue rather than red: Ian Curtis, Johnny Marr, Rick Wakeman, Alan Carr, Timothy Dalton and Alan Rickman are or were all reported followers. Pre-money, too. As much as it would annoy them to pick David Hasselhoff over them as Manchester City’s biggest fan, though – yes, apparently that’s true – there’s no denying that Noel and Liam Gallagher are the two biggest Citizens going. Noel has been on Super Sunday, interviewed Mario Balotelli and even celebrated titles with the squad.
He’s not just a City fan though, but a good luck charm for Italy. After Alessandro Del Piero spotted him at a match in 2006, he asked the Oasis star to come to the World Cup final, in the same clothes, as he believed him to be a good luck charm. “It goes without saying,” Gallagher recalled. “Who won the World Cup? Noelly G.”
Manchester United
Manchester United have the most supporters in the world. It’s unsurprising then that the likes of Floyd Mayweather, Megan Fox, Justin Timberlake, Steve Coogan and Thom Yorke are all Red Devils. But who’s the biggest?
Eamon Holmes got into United because of George Best and even read a eulogy at his funeral. Drake has claimed to support United but famously flip-flops between clubs, cursing them as he goes. Karl Pilkington, Rory McIlroy, Danny Boyle, John Simm and even Kim Jong Un are all apparently fans too. A special mention must go to rapper Dave, who openly references the club in his music and was even been pictured trying to tap up Jadon Sancho for a move while the winger was at Dortmund.
The fastest man in the world, Usain Bolt, is a huge Red and has been pictured at United games and their training ground a few times now - but we’re going to pick Stormzy as the most famous, given that he’s on the up and Bolt’s star has peaked (sorry, Usain). Big Mike even helped unveil Paul Pogba.
Newcastle United
Newcastle is a massive city with massive fans. See Sting, Cheryl Cole, Brian Blessed, Gabby Logan, James Bay, Sam Fender and even Tony Blair, whose prized possession is a No.9 shirt signed by Alan Shearer.
Really though, there’s only ever going to be one winner. Well, two. Ant and Dec are the Toon’s most famous export/s, appear on the odds list to manage the club every time the manager's job is vacant. Howay, the lads.
Nottingham Forest
Forest were massive in the 70s so it's no surprise that they've had their fair share of famous fans over the years. James Dean Bradfield of the Manic Street Preachers, cricketer Stuart Broad and politician Ken Clarke are all apparently supporters.
But we're going for Carl Froch. He's certainly famous enough and displayed his fanatical devotion to the Tricky Trees by wearing their colours in interviews and appearing on Soccer AM. Plus, we don't dare argue with him that he's not the most famous.
Southampton
It’s not a great start when you mention a member of Coldplay that isn’t Chris Martin. Drummer Will Champion, however, has a season ticket at Southampton.
Lucy Pinder, Chris Packham and David Frost all make the cut of famous Saints fans (some more famous than others), but probably the most famous must go to Craig David. The RnB singer has been a fan of the club all his life, but he often misses midweek games, given that he’s usually making love on Wednesday.
Tottenham Hotspur
Louis van Gaal is a legend at Barcelona, Ajax and Bayern Munich. But he grew up a Tottenham Hotspur fan, citing Jimmy Greaves and the “fantastic white shirts” for his fandom.
He’s not the only surprising Spurs fan. Avelino, Annie Mac, JK Rowling, AJ Tracey and Dave Bautista all claim to follow the Lilywhites, while legendary broadcasters Trevor McDonald and Barry Davies are also apparently huge Tottenham fans. A special mention should also go to Lord Sugar, who was chairman of the club at one point, but remains a loyal fan to this day (even if he did admire Arsene Wenger).
The most famous Spurs fan though has to go to Adele. She's headlined Glastonbury, won Grammy and Brit awards… but hasn't received quite the same accolades for her rendition of "Glory Glory Tottenham Hotspur", unfortunately.
West Ham United
A debate rages over the biggest celebrity West Ham United follower. You see, if Queen Elizabeth II really does follow the Irons, she’s undoubtedly the top corgi. But did she call Dimitri Payet a judas when he left? Would she declare “one thinks Mark Noble is the East End Xavi”? According to rumours, she took a shine to Cesc Fabregas when Arsenal visited the palace years ago: if she is a Hammer, she’d have been livid with him joining Chelsea.
Since no one’s likely to confirm Her Majesty’s support for West Ham any time soon, we have to fall back on the famous faces we know support them. Ray Winstone, Kriss Akabusi, Keira Knightly, John Cleese, Len Goodman and Triple H is quite a line-up. Russell Brand even interrupted Sam Allardyce’s post-match interview to kiss him.
Love him or loathe him, it’s probably James Corden for the most famous. The TV host and Tony Award-winner has made no secret of his love for West Ham, and his character Smithy Gavin and Stacey from is naturally also a Hammer. So it’s Corden. Unless it’s the Queen.
Wolverhampton Wanderers
Luke Skywalker supports Wolverhampton Wanderers. OK, Mark Hammill was asked to support them by a fan group and later admitted, “I only became an accidental ‘fan’ when someone asked if I liked the wolves and I said yes because I thought they meant the animal.”
Of Wolves’ fans who actually know they’re fans, Beverly Knight, Eric Idle, Edward Elgar and apparently Mike Tyson have all been reported to follow the club. Andy Murray has worn their shirt to training, though that was more because his manager supported them. Potentially the most famous must go to Robert Plant though, lead singer of the iconic rock band Led Zeppelin and vice-president of the club. Plant has been a fan of the club since he was 5.
“It's been a bloody murderous journey. This is paradise,” he said of his time following the club and their promotion under Nuno.

The only good thing about this imaginary reality show: but imagine seeing live the clownery, it's gotta be worse in real life. Poor Mats his "cool reputation" would forever be tarnished. Thomas would be happy: he would act the same as always. Lewy and Manu would struggle. Leon would probably win because he probably would give a really Aquarius speech in the middle of the show that would go viral. To make this work we would have to convince Ozil to come back, his aloofness would be iconic
LKJDLAKSDS UR SO RIGHT.......... mats would end up losing his mind at some point ...........
but im not so sure about leon winning. im sure about him giving a woke speech but that doesnt always sit right with the audience dljaslkkj no offence to my king but theres no way all that aquaness wouldnt make him unbearable ... people would either love or hate him
mesut would be really fun to watch too 😭 i would like to see the little groups that would form and the fights over the food <3

Arsenal is a Disgrace in this Mesut Ozil situation.
I don’t know why anybody is not saying anything about how Arsenal is treating Mesut Ozil! The fanbase is as ungrateful as the club. The club stoop down to a new low when they left out Ozil from the official Premier league and Europa league squad. I want to know what did Ozil do to deserve this treatment and this huge disrespect? Just because he spoke for Uighur Muslims? Yeah he spoke against extreme human right violations in China when innocent people are being killed and raped for no reason. Due to Ozil’s comments against the human right violations Arsenal matches were banned in China, Arsenal lost Chinese sponsors, lost the Chinese revenues. When did revenues become more important than humanity? It’s a shame Arsenal put their profit and revenues over humanity.
Ozil is a player of another level. His vision and creativity is extra ordinary. He is a silent hero, he can control the whole game play of the team with his talent. He was too good for Arsenal. But he chose Arsenal. We were lucky. He loves Arsenal and he graced Arsenal and English Premier league with his talent. But do we really believe he’s finished or he doesn’t have the right attitude? Never. It’s a conspiracy and internal politics. He can still add so much value to the team. Imagine him feeding balls to Auba and Laca and having a dynamic midfield with Partey. But he’s just being targeted and wasted.
And Arsenal you blame players like Fabregas and Persie for not being loyal? What do you give to your loyal players? You don’t give them even the slightest bit of Respect. Why did Ramsey had to leave like that? Jack Wilshere, Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott, Podolski, Koscielny nobody got even the slightest bit of respect. But the disrespect and ill treatment to Mesut Özil has crossed all the limits. No values, no ethics and no respect is left whatsoever in Arsenal Football Club. I used to love the club, I used feel a deep connection But no more. I don’t feel the connection anymore and most importantly I can’t support WRONG. Arsenal is Wrong. And Shame on Arteta too more supporting wrong stance.

Calacus Weekly Hit & Miss – Jen Beattie & Antoine Griezmann
Every Monday we look at the best and worst communicators in the sports world from the previous week.
HIT – JEN BEATTIE
Everyone in football was shocked to hear that Scotland and Arsenal defender Jen Beattie has been receiving treatment for breast cancer.
Beattie was diagnosed in October but has continued to play for her club and country and says the support of her teammates has been crucial while she’s unable to be with family due to coronavirus restrictions.
The 29-year-old says her aim now is to raise awareness of having breast cancer at a young age and encourage women to get checked.
"I know people are maybe scared to go to the hospital and scared to get checked out because of COVID, but there are still ways to do it," Beattie said in an interview with BBC’s Football Focus.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55250450
"I have friends who work in the NHS and they've said diagnoses have gone down massively for cancer this year, and that scares me so much, knowing that people are sitting at home and can maybe feel things but are too scared to go in.
"Whether you're 29 or 79, it doesn't really matter and you might have to deal with it at some point.
"Even if it is still a horrible process to go through, it can be a much better ending if you just go and get checked."
Arsenal and Manchester City players showed their support for Beattie by wearing shirts with her name on ahead of their crucial Women’s Super League clash.
https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/jen-beattie-breast-cancer-arsenal-man-city-shirts-support-b290279.html
Beattie’s club twitter account commented ‘You’re an inspiration to all of us’ and the outpouring of well wishes has underlined how football can come together and unite in difficult times.
https://twitter.com/ArsenalWFC/status/1338124792646471683
Beattie has shown immense courage to tell her story and raise awareness for such an important topic when it may have been easier to keep it to herself and we wish her all the best in her recovery.
MISS – ANTOINE GRIEZMANN
What does it mean to be a brand ambassador?
In days gone by, it meant standing with a product or wearing a cap emblazoned with a brand’s logo and smiling for photographs.
But consumers demand a lot more from the brands they buy and support these days, expecting them to have a social conscience as well as be of good quality.
Antoine Griezmann, the Barcelona and France striker, used Instagram to make a statement declaring that he was severing ties with Chinese electronics brand Huawei due to their alleged involvement in China’s treatment of Muslim Uighurs.
https://www.cnbc.com/2020/12/09/chinas-huawei-tested-ai-software-that-could-identify-uighurs-report.html
China has been criticised by global governments and other sports stars including Mesut Ozil and Sonny Bill Williams with up to a million Uighurs suspected to be in ‘re-education camps.’
https://twitter.com/mesutozil1088/status/1205439723302469632?lang=en
https://twitter.com/SonnyBWilliams/status/1204488061796507648
The Chinese government has consistently denied mistreatment and says the camps are designed to stamp out terrorism and improve employment opportunities.
“Following strong suspicions that Huawei has contributed to the development of a Uighur alert thanks to facial recognition software, I am announcing the immediate termination of my partnership with the company," Griezmann said in an Instagram post.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CInqQ5-ptdP/
“I take this opportunity to invite Huawei to not just deny these accusations but to take concrete actions as quickly as possible to condemn this mass repression, and to use its influence to contribute to the respect of human and women's rights in society.”
Given that Griezmann has been a Huawei ambassador since 2017, his statement does beg the question why there were no discussions between him or his representatives and Huawei before he cut ties.
Rather than just highlighting his concerns as he resigned, he could perhaps have had a greater impact by announcing that he wanted to work with Huawei to ensure that the Uighurs plight was addressed.
As it was, Huawei issued their own statement in which they said: “We would like to extend an invitation to speak to him personally, to explain the work that is currently being done at the highest level, inside the company, to address the issues of human rights, equality, and discrimination at all levels, and to reassure him, and all our customers and partners, that Huawei takes these concerns very seriously.”
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-55265989
Whether or not Huawei could or would have done anything is open to debate and conjecture, but if Griezmann had attempted to work with them to make a positive change for the Uighers, imagine how much more impactful that would have been both for the player and the company?

Julian Brandt interview (June 11, 2019)
Source: https://www.waz.de/sport/fussball/bvb/julian-brandt-borussia-dortmund-kann-mich-praegen-id226123423.html
The first thought you get, whenever you stand in front of Julian Brandt is he is tall. Because he moves so quick on the pitch, you never notice his 1,86 meter height. So he is tall but not cocky. He first congratulates our reporter for his birthday and tell him, to his shock, that even he starts to feel his bones at the age of 23. He also talks about his transfer from Bayer Leverkusen to Borussia Dortmund and the reasons; the rebuilding of the Die Mannschaft and how he imagines a leader role within the team.
Mr. Brandt, how grown up do you feel?
Julian: Well, I do feel the years in my feet and legs. I have played many games already and my body starts to wear off. I know this is complaining on a high level, but I’m not getting younger (laughs).
Many people also talk about the national team. How “mature” do you think the team is already?
Julian: You have to give us time until the EURO 2020. We still have to grow together and get to know each other better. But we have developed in a positive way thus far. Whats special is that many guys have to take responsibility now
What are the consequences?
Julian: You have to be a player where others take directions from. That’s not easy. Its something which has to grow. Its a step that still needs some time.
You too, personally? You belong to the more experienced players with 25 caps already..
Julian: That is true. Though sometimes its like I still have the feeling I have to find my way and adopt here. But you sure feel, how time is running. I’m not a loud speaking guy like Joshua Kimmich. And not like Thomas Muller who talks a lot (laughs). But I do feel how I want to go head during training sessions. I see it as a duty for myself, to give to team some footing.
So you want to contribute like Mesut Ozil did on the pitch, something that many players credited him to have the ability to?
Julian: Mesut was kind of a guy, which you didnt hear a lot on the pitch, but he was able to give the game a certain direction. He had a moment where he played a terrific pass which gave the team a jolt. That’s also my way of doing it. I surely don’t count as someone who “screams a lot”.
Lets talk about the 2-0 victory against Belarus. A classic hard-fought victory?
Julian: Winning the game was something that everbody expected us to do. And we did that. Like anticipated Belarus was very defensive. And sure, not everything worked out the way we wanted to, because many of our guys had vacation before. But it was okay, given that many of us trained together for just a couple of days.
You sat on the bench and were subbed in the 76th minute. Dissapointed?
Julian: I never go into games with certain demands, which is why I was very happy about every minute that I was able to play.
But you certainly expect more minutes against Estonia?
Julian: Every player wants to play from the beginning – thats no secret. And they want to play as long as possible.
You are transfering to Borussia Dortmund this summer. The competition is much bigger there. You could have made yourself comftable in Leverkusen a year before the EURO 2020. Why such a risk?
Julian: It wasn’t easy to leave Leverkusen. But I had a feeling, that I was in for something new. I want to prove myself new. I think its good for me to face new tasks and achieve new goals.
So whats different at BVB?
Julian: The quality is higher. Everything is bigger there. You can see this with the fanbase, but also the international reach. And the pressure is higher at BVB – even through the media. When Dortmund had a lot of points advance and then suddently the gap between them and Bayern became smaller – everybody was talking about them. Back at Leverkusen when we were on tenth place, you could have gotten the impression that nobody was upset about it. That’s different in Dortmund and this could shape me personally but also in my style of play.
And now you going to win the national championship and become EURO Champions?
Julian: It would be nice, if I can play my part so that the next season is going to be as exciting like the last one. But I’m careful about season goals. I have to get used to the new club and get to know the new team. Then I will get a feeling about whats possible. Marco probably knows more about that. It’s an open secret, that he wants to win the championship.
You mean Marco Reus. How do you guys get along?
Julian: We get along very well. He are sitting next to each other in the locker room. I have spoken to him before my transfer. He told me how happy he would be if I would go to Dortmund. He is a fantastic player. Marco is one reason why I decided to go to Dortmund.
How does it feel to have a transfer worth of 25 million euros and still counting as cheap?
Julian: That’s still a lot of money, one should never forget. But this is a business where people pay a lot of money and in the end I’m just a part of the whole.
To get to this point, you experienced a youth totally dedicated to football. Did you miss something?
Julian: No, because my youth was very good and unproblematic. It was even easier and easy-going than now. Especially my time in Wolfsburg was fundamental for my career. Leverkusen was also an important step. Whatever decision I have made in my career thus far, up until now it always felt it were the right ones. This gave me self-confidence deciding to go to Dortmund.
Is it because of right way of planning, hard work or luck?
Julian: Luck plays a role, of course. Until now I always followed my gut feeling. I do what I’m keen to do. That helps. And thanks to my mom I never got seriously injured.
Your mother?
Julian: I recieve osteopathic and homeopathic treatment from my mother. Many people find this amusing. But this is how is was raised. Even our dog gets that sort of treatment. And so I never got seriously injured. That’s the basis of a good career. My mother is the reason why everything went so good in my career thus far.
You seem to be very family oriented.
Julian: Yes, I have an absolut intact family, that gives me support. My father is my manager. I used to live together with my older brother in Cologne. The other one plays at Werder Bremen, maybe one day he will play against me on the pitch.
What does home means to you?
Julian: There are some people who go on a journey and travel the whole world. I stay at home as long as possible during my vacation. That also a privilege.

The Cruyff Turn 45 years on: a juxtaposition of genius and simplicity
It seems somewhat harsh to relegate any human being down to one moment: one particular time on one particular stage. Ultimately though, it's easier to remember someone with one shining image. Diego Maradona fist-pumping the heavens. Andrea Pirlo nonchalantly chipping a penalty. Zinedine Zidane's mad headbutt in the heat of a World Cup Final. Or Johan Cruyff bamboozling a defender in a single sleight of shin.
The Cruyff Turn is 45 years old this year. You've seen it a million times. Cruyff shapes up to pass the ball from just outside the box with his right foot. He instead tucks the ball behind his standing leg and switches direction by 180 degrees. He carries on with his dribble and gets the ball into the box.
The decibel level erupts. This is the first time that the Westfalenstadion crowd, or anyone watching from the comfort of their front room, had ever seen such a thing. Your dad is impressed. Your little brother can't believe it. The style, the audacity, the simplicity was breathtaking. For a split second, Johan Cruyff, with his chic slightly-longer-than-a-Beatle haircut and catwalk model frame is a magician, revealing to the audience that the card you chose from the deck was tucked away up his long, orange sleeve the whole time.
Perhaps though, the strangest thing about the Cruyff turn is that maybe, just maybe, it was nothing special. It's almost sacrilege to suggest out loud.
But Johan Cruyff temporarily leaving his marker in a heap was the only noteworthy event in a 0-0 group game: it's not as if it led to a goal or even a big moment in a decisive match. For years, you may have assumed that the defender was an Italian by the royal blue of his shirt. It wasn't. It was Swede Jan Olsson, in his country's change strip. Of course, this doesn't matter per se, but the unconscious assumption that Johan dumbfounded an Italian – a nation we have always associated with defensive rocks – certainly gives the moment more gravitas than hoodwinking a 32-year-old capped just 17 times in his entire career.
Yes, it was the first time that anyone had seen the Cruyff Turn, but let's play Alan Hansen on this moment. Should Olsson being doing better there? Arguably. He commits his body and suffers the consequences. It's hard to imagine a modern defender being quite so naïve and gangly. These were the days before players were labelled “frauds” by internet trolls, though.
Then there's the aesthetics of the shot. The 1974 edition was only the second ever FIFA World Cup broadcast in colour, and whoever shot the moment Cruyff turned, caught it at the optimum angle. It was perfectly framed, the camera focusing vertically to where Cruyff changes path. Zinedine Zidane was never so fortunate to get a perfect stage and camera angle when he pirouetted on the ball and made “the Marseille Turn” his own: not in the way that the stars aligned when he volleyed the iconic winner against Bayer Levekusen in the Champions League final. Pele was behind the rainbow flick, but in an age in which it didn't look as good on screen. Every time Mesut Ozil scores, it takes a slow-motion replay to reveal if he's applied his now-trademark cushioning of the ball against the ground.
It seems odd that the moment that followed Cruyff for the rest of his life was nowhere near the most amazing thing he did in his career.
This was a man that won three consecutive European Cups with Ajax, managed Barcelona to their first and whose name is splashed across almost everything he touched. The Cruyff Turn was a 24th minute whim in a group game. It's similar to how an artist as enduring and vocally talented as Michael Jackson became associated so strongly with the moonwalk. Did we really reduce such a visionary to a technically simple move?
That's exactly why the Cruyff Turn has stood such a considerable test of time, though.
You've probably seen the Cruyff Turn performed against better defenders; no doubt by considerably less talented footballers than Johan Cruyff. Marc Pugh was known for it at AFC Bournemouth, for example. It's something that most children learn when playing football in the street.
The Cruyff Turn is the most ordinary of all the extraordinary things you can do with a football. It doesn't require a deft touch or an eye for an angle. It just needs timing. The turn is an evasive football move: it gets the performer out of congestion and into space. It doesn't boast like a stepover does and it's not Ronaldinho-level in its wizardry. It's not like a rabona: you don't see it coming until the last second. One second you're about to pass: the next you're not. It's that basic.
Whilst most tricks in football rely on what you can do with your feet, the Cruyff turn is more about what you do with your body. The satisfaction of the Cruyff Turn is that it subverts your expectations. Cruyff offers you something with one hand before taking it away with the other in a smoother manner than Jay-Jay Okotcha or Cristiano Ronaldo has ever managed with their trademark turns and chops.
In this respect, perhaps only Cruyff could have invented the Cruyff Turn: or at least brought it to the masses. It seems like an urban myth waiting to be uncovered that a modest Eredivisie winger practised the move first, only for a more famous Dutchman to pilfer it, like a blues melody for a rock and roll song.
Johan Cruyff was a rockstar and a complex man at that. A legend whose name still reverberates around the Ajax academy, yet he left them in a fit of rage towards the end of his playing days for rivals Feyenoord. Cruyff was fiercely individual, idealistic and driven by the philosophy of freedom of expression, yet governed himself by the idea that the sum of a team was greater than his own ability. Cruyff was frequently labelled as hellishly arrogant, yet omitted his own name once when asked to comprise an eleven of the greatest footballers ever. He could have easily walked into the theoretical side, too.
The Dutchman assumed the classic squad number 14 by mistake and apparently stuck by it as an act of rebellion against the Netherlands' Football Association. He refused a move to Real Madrid on the basis of their association with Spanish dictator Francisco Franco, and in defiance against Adidas – Cruyff had a deal with rivals Puma – would only wear a special orange jersey for the Netherlands that ripped one of the brand's legendary three stripes from the shoulders.
A rebel, often with an idyllic cause, the idea of him turning 180 degrees just to avoid doing the ordinary is idiosyncratically Cruyff. That he should do it so beguilingly, is fitting. Perhaps the greatest innovator in the history of the sport, it doesn't really matter whether it was Cruyff that invented his turn: he was the one that brought it to the spotlight.
Just as Total Football was based on mad, mad movement off the ball, the Cruyff Turn exploited space. It's apt that players all over the pitch, from ball-playing centre-backs to strikers in a tight spot, use the turn as a “Get out of jail free” card: in Total Football, Cruyff could've pulled out that trick anywhere on the pitch. Yes, the Cruyff Turn is simple, but it's quintessentially Cruyff. Not the greatest thing he ever did, but a single move that summed up the fire in him, the showman in him, the team player able to give the on-rushing men in the box a cross, even in a sticky situation.
And yes, Johan Cruyff's defining moment is one that we all learned before the age of ten. Not a Maradona-slalom of a run into the England penalty area or an Henry zig-zag through the beating heart of Real Madrid's imperious back four. But Cruyff made us fall in love with football in a different way to such physically gifted men. A boy from humble beginnings in Amsterdam, he showed the world a rich brand of the sport, not just through his ability, but his vision.
The Cruyff Turn makes children of all of us: sometimes world class defenders and seasoned analysts alike can't see it coming. Only Cruyff, the man with the greatest vision in football, could. And at its core, the Cruyff Turn is as complex as its master. Simple, unpredictable, rebellious, showing off and yet not showing off for the sake of it. In 45 long years, we've still not seen a trick like it.
