Loooooong moon that i started making in August and only finished now (1st October)
So long, in fact, that i have actually split this page in half since typing this bc it was Bothering Me (and wouldn't upload to comicfury, so enjoy a small bonus moon update coming shortly)
I think the break was good for me bc I'm a lot happier with the characters and anatomy on this moon c:
Colours in the first panel are a paintover/photobashed from a sunset I took on my phone, but I like how it turned out
Lilac has a bow tie in game, but that's... that can't happen he's a 300kg+ sabercat not a domestic kitty
Snares will mess u up though! I had to do a lot of research and I did fudge some things (woven artifacts don't preserve very well) but hopefully it's clear Lilac can't get his head around to bite it without swinging+ claws are actually terrible for slicing (especially Homotherium ones which are only semi-retractable and therefore dull)

"Night on the Town"
"We dated for a year and a half, the reception-"
"-was a mess, absolute travesty. We wanted Swedish meatballs."
"They're just like vorma. Something both sides of the family can enjoy equally. And we all also equally shared in the food poisoning."
"But that's normal wedding stuff, which is kinda the point. The dinosovian conception of marriage has more in common with ours than not."
"There are compromises, of course, but neither of us is very traditional, so its easy to accommodate most of our family's little demands. Like, I took her name, which made my traditionalist mom and aunt very happy."
"And made uncle Robert very annoyed, which I greatly enjoy."
"But to be fair, in a nod to her traditions, we chose to live in our own home rather than a multi-generational arrangement, as is thyrene custom."
"Sweetie, plenty of humans live in multi-generational homes."
"Can you not print that last bit? My mom reads your magazine."
-Dyo (34) & Melynie (28) Sledge, Newlyweds
Dyo and Melynie were made using multiple midjourney generations, photo-manipulation, and digital painting.
Normally, when I post something of this complexity, I don't give full details because its just a massive volume of information almost no one will care about. But I figure what the heck. Might as well show it off once.
MJ can do theropods pretty easily (assuming you're not picky, don't want feathers, and it doesn't need a tail), almost any other kind of dino is going to be a collage process. Ankylosaurs are a major blind spot.
So here's just some of the prompts I used to make bits and pieces of this composition.
photograph of a humanoid snapping turtle with a large, thick shell
Tumblr media
an ankylosaurus anthro with a long, powerful, alligator tail, large, thick shell, green scales, white horns and spines, ankylosaurus tail, thagomizer :: long green reptile tail, over the ground, photography
Tumblr media
a green humanoid ankylosaurus, photography, nighttime city background
Tumblr media
photograph of a an attractive, heavyset woman with red hair wearing a sweater and jeans, standing on a city street, looking lightly up, friendly, happy, nighttime scene*
Tumblr media
a green ankylosaurus tail, photography, black background :: alligator tail ending in a knob of bone
Tumblr media
To get the image I wanted, it had to be built in chunks, assembled and then painted over and photobashed to blend the pieces.
Getting thyrene clothing to make sense requires some sci-fi hand waving. the smart-fabric cinches around the gap between the back armor plates and the main torso. The "hood" is a flap that buttons on one side and is open in the back. It's a cold weather outfit.
*Midjourney's dataset leans to extreme thinness, so 'chubby' or 'heavyset' will typically produce a normal looking thin-to average person, while "zaftig" or "plump" are required actual heavyset builds.

Everybody's got one! “We just know how to keep it locked up down below."
aka me thinking bout that concept art again, this time working on the art with the actual idea that popped in my head instead of a reaction joke post -- which is of course mixing ideas and concepts together into a messy picture.
In the case above it is mostly the mix of the demon in the photobash concept art with Ford with a couple bits of wood and glass as per my hc of pre-everything for Ford’s mindscape. Annnd with how much fire aligned he seems like to me I decided hey-- wood burns right? It’d be awful if the place was set on fire.
anyway so what I had going in my head were the concept of the "Maligula" of psychic seven start out looking like scraps of whatever psychic specialty they have + their mindscape components before forming into a more refined psychic mental construct
The Ideas for the others are mostly formed from what we see in canon. Anyway I think they’d have something simpler but at this point I was just mixing things and throwing them all in here and brainstorming what would be cool to draw together:
Tumblr media
Lucy/Mal - water tornado with scraps of ripped clothing
Bob - Vines wrapping around a broken frame of a greenhouse. Overgrown aesthetic + overwatered(alcohol) like a jungle/swamp
Helmut - squiggly line figments that outlines and floats in space water thing , occasionally bursting into an oversaturated doodle like the CV view he had when he was freshly put in Nick’s body
Cassie - ink+honey+mess of paper formed into GNG Witch costume + BEES (okay maybe not a bee costume but more like being made out of bees like the cassie archetype she had holding herself hostage before we helped her)
Compton - Puppet animal with toy parts that has TV static + explosion sfx bubbles that pops up on its face and limbs
Otto - those Funky style psitanium gadgets and inventions that are abadoned & burn and stiff frames like it is frozen
Ford - admittedly i would cram everything in the GNG and WRPSC into a mess of job offers it i could, constantly switching and popping in and out of existence like some mosaic. otherwise FIRE its fun you guys. oh and i guess if we go with the theme of the rest it’d be a mix of the Fords in his mindscapes, added with the hypothetical camp ones

Photobash concepts for the au I’m calling “cosmic vessels” as of now..... the gist of it is that benrey and gordon kinda accidentally become unwilling deities! Uh oh!
Everything is very loose as of now because I’m bad at writing BUT,,,, so far I’m thinking it follows the same setting and general plot of hlvrai except Gordon and Benrey get along great bc Romance (tm). They haven’t met before the day of the resonance cascade, but both have been having some kind of weird experiences prior. When they walk past each other that morning, something immediately draws them to the other and Benrey makes up excuses to start following Gordon around (who just kind of takes it in stride as he also tries to figure out the weird connection).
What neither of them know then is that two entities, almost more comparable to forces, have been warring since the beginning of time. One represents energy, structure, the big bang, and radiation (esp the cmb which I kinda draw on a lot for imagery) while the other represents entropy, absolute zeo, void, and heat death (which I use static as imagery for). If spacetime becomes too stressed (like, say, by some idiot human scientists messing around with wormholes), the powers start to stir and find sentient vessels through which to continue their fight. Gordon becomes a channel for the first power and Benrey for the second; as the story progresses, their actions are controlled more and more by their respective forces, which culminates in the battle on Xen.
As far as the abilities they both slowly gain: Gordon can summon large amounts of energy in various forms (heat, electricity, light, sound, etc) which get stronger and harder to control over time. Meanwhile, Benrey can remove energy from any system and dissipate matter (sort of like burning wood and being left with ash that can’t burn any more and smoke you can’t meaningfully interact with). He’s very cold to the touch :(  Sweetvoice is a byproduct of the deities for both of them (so far I’m pretty sure Benrey’s human in this au) and doesn’t necessarily communicate emotion, it’s more like excess power leaking out?
ANYWAYS THIS IS ALL JUST ME BEING VERY INDULGENT AND COMBINING MY LOVE OF ELDRITCH DEITIES, ASTROPHYSICS, AND HLVRAI,,,,,,, PLS ENJOY

choose your 5 favourite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you’ve brought into the world. tag as many writers/artists/etc as you want (fan or original) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works!
Tumblr media
alright so this technically is still a wip but who knows when the mood for 3D will strike me again to finish this and i do already like this, like it’s definitely not a great sculpt if ur actually a 3D artist lol but it’s the first time i tried sculpting a head from scratch and not just messing around with the zbrush demo projects and i do like how it turned out for that  ✌️
Tumblr media
the reason why i like this is similar to the first one because it’s the first time i used techniques like 3D paintovers and photobashing and it actually turned out okay lol, like it’s definitely messy bc rendering full environments will just never be my thing lol but i still like how the bridge turned out and i actually rlly enjoyed modelling it too plus setting up the shot and experimenting with different angles
Tumblr media
i never posted this and it’s also just a sketch with fucked anatomy and idk whats going on in general lol but there’s something about it i still rlly like?? and idk i remember it was chill drawing this
Tumblr media
another star war one and tbh at the time i made it i wasn’t the biggest fan but now i kinda like it?? even if i put in the wrong empire symbol like an idiot lmao .... plus it’s got alfi in it, my first rowdy star wars oc in a line of many lol
Tumblr media
idk if this one counts because it’s screenshot redraws so like?? it’s not like there’s much original about it lol BUT i still like these because it was fun to recreate something more ~atmospheric~ and also i’m just really loving doing more blocky painting recently so that was fun too

We have finally reached the end of the long road for this week. I may have gone a bit cray with the stylizing at the end here, but I really like how this piece turned out overall! Done completely within ProCreate, mostly digital painting with a tiny bit of photobashing in for texture purposes.
Head under the cut for progress photos and final thoughts:
Tumblr media
It’s really interesting to look back on the evolution of this piece, especially considering how little detail there is in that final sketch. I wound up using the reference photo and a few other piece a lot when working on the detailing, and they’re not included here, but I actually drew out a wireframe on certain portions of the face to help with light and shadow.
Which is... not my strongest point? But I think it turned out really well here. And while there are still things I see that could be changed or tweaked, I feel like this is probably the strongest piece I’ve made overall. The hair is rendered and intentional, rather than me trying to do most of it with a hair brush, instead using the texture brushes to apply/build up texture on existing colors and rendered forms.
I had three big takeaways this time around:
Knowing the underlying structure helps a ton in the rendering process, because it makes it easier to know how to blend and render light and shadows more. So it feels less like guess work and happy accidents.
I figured out how to approximate blender brushes in ProCreate, and it was amazingly helpful during the rendering and painting prcoess. It’s hard to explain in layman’s terms, but it’s more like mixing wet oils on a canvas, whearas the smudge brush is just... smooshing/blurring things together. A+++, would recommend to other ProCreate users.
There’s a lot that you can rescue even later on down the line in a painting, just but either repainting simple shapes and blending in (ie: toning down the shadows in the final picture vs the previous ones) or using layer blending modes to recolor small portions (compare: the lips on the final portrait vs the in-progress shots). Knowing that you can mess up, but fix it later? Huge confidence booster in being able to just have fun in the earlier steps without stressing over perfection.
And that’s it! Thanks for letting me spam you guys over the course of the week -- and a big thank you to @grumpyhedgehog and @jaydzia66 for joining me this time around! It was so much fun having others suffer alongside take this challenge and cheer each other on over the course of the week. You guys did amazing work, and I loved seeing the way your portraits turned out! ♥

Much like my key art and other 2 environment pieces, I have decided to create one final environment piece. I started with creating a rough 3D blockout in Maya and then textured it in Quixel Mixer and imported the scene into Unreal Engine 4. I then used various photobashing techniques to add more detail to the image, and played around with how I wanted the image to feel by messing with the values and lighting.
