If you lack for space for giant cube filter, tape one merv8 or LOWER filter to the BACK of your box fan.

Please trust me, I've been running box fan filters in my home for years for indoor air quality.

In the past THREE WEEKS my air filters have gotten as dirty as they usually would get in three months, due to wildfire smoke. (And seasonal pollen.)

Please listen to me and do not put above merv 8 on a box fan. They do not produce enough static pressure to draw air through a filter that dense. The motor will burn out. I know this, because I have burned out many fans.

Electostatic filters with lower merv ratings do a lot! Merv 7/8 electrostatic work best in my experience.

Practical tip for those dealing with wildfire smoke now: you can make a very effective air filter for a reasonable amount of money using a box fan & one of those filters meant for your furnace.

Also, I've managed to pick up 2 of the box fans for very cheap/free from yard sales. Make sure you get a filter rated for wildfire smoke, I think this one cost about $20.
