Merritt Gant (born February 18, 1971) is a #guitarist originally from Millville, New Jersey. Gant is most recognized for his association with the #thrash #metal #band Overkill.
In the late 1980s, Gant entered the local music scene with hard rock band Drastic Measures. During Gant’s tenure with Drastic Measures, one full length album and one demo were released. In 1989, Gant was recruited by Chris Bombeke to play guitar with Faith or Fear.[2] However, shortly after doing a series of shows and recording several songs with Faith or Fear, Gant auditioned and was hired to play for the thrash metal band Overkill.
In 1990, Overkill held auditions to replace departing guitarist Bobby Gustafson. Gustafson was replaced by two guitarists, Rob Cannavino and Merritt Gant. From 1990 to 1995, Gant toured and recorded on the albums Horrorscope, I Hear Black, W.F.O., and the live album Wrecking Your Neck. Gant appeared in several music videos featured on MTV, including the thrash metal anthem “Horrorscope.” In 1995, Gant and Cannavino both left Overkill.
After leaving Overkill, Gant’s involvement in the music industry evolved beyond being just a guitar player. Gant currently plays, engineers, and produces music in several bands, including his experimental music project Blood Audio.[3] In 2001, Blood Audio released Bludgeoning Timbre[4] and in 2003,Null Evil.[5] In 2009, Gant also laid down several guitar tracks for New Jersey band, Dearly Beloved.[6] In addition to being a recording artist, Gant is also a guitar instructor, producer and sound engineer, and an accomplished repairman and restorer of vintage and modern electric and acoustic guitars and other stringed instruments.[7][8] In June 2009, Faith or Fear” released a new album, Instruments of Death, featuring Gant on four previously unreleased tracks recorded in 1990.[9]
Since then, he has settled down in southern New Jersey with his wife and three children.[10] Also he and his brother own a music store.

Horrorscope is the fifth studio album by thrash metal band Overkill, released on September 3, 1991 through Atlantic and Megaforce Records. It was the first Overkill album to feature the duo of guitarists Merritt Gant and Rob Cannavino, and the last to be released through Megaforce; although they remained on Atlantic until 1995.
Following the departure of longtime guitarist and songwriter Bobby Gustafson, who left the band after disagreements with bassist D. D. Verni, Overkill added two new guitarists in Cannavino (who had been Gustafson's guitar technician) and Gant (previously from thrash metal band Faith or Fear). Drummer Sid Falck left the band during the Horrorscope tour in 1992, being replaced by former M.O.D. drummer Tim Mallare.
AllMusic's Eduardo Rivadavia gave Horrorscope a positive review, awarding it 4.5 stars out of five and stating, "The insecurity felt among Overkill fans by the departure of founding guitarist and key songwriter Bobby Gustafson in 1990 ultimately proved unfounded when the New York thrashers' expanded two-guitar lineup—featuring Rob Cannavino and Merritt Gant—arguably delivered the finest effort of the group's career in 1991's Horrorscope."
The album reached No. 29 on the U.S. Billboard Heatseekers chart and as of 2010 remains Overkill's best-selling album of the Nielsen SoundScan era, having sold over 120,000 copies in the U.S. In a 2013 article by WhatCulture!, the album was ranked fourth on their list of "10 Greatest Thrash Metal Albums of All Time"

On this day in 1996, Overkill released ‘The Killing Kind’. 📻 In 1995, both guitarists Rob Cannavino and Merritt Gant decided to leave Overkill. Overkill then hired Joe Comeau, former singer of the band Liege Lord (now playing guitar). Comeau brought along former Anvil guitarist Sebastian Marino, with whom he had worked with in the past. The new line up recorded The Killing Kind in 1996 It was self-produced and mixed by Chris Tsangarides (Judas Priest, Helloween). While staying well within the thrash genre, the album was a departure from its predecessor's more traditional thrash metal style and featured many modern elements, such as hardcore, while vocally some influences were drawn from outside the rock and metal genres. Since Comeau was also a singer, backing vocals on The Killing Kind and subsequent albums were more elaborate and frequent than before, adding another new element to the band's sound. Press response to The Killing Kind was positive. However, the fan's response to The Killing Kind was split, some fans claiming it to be one of their worst albums with other fans calling one of their finest efforts. Overkill toured Europe twice in support of The Killing Kind, first in February 1996 with Megora and Accu§er, and then again in November with Anvil and Stahlhammer. This was the first Overkill album not to be released on Atlantic Records since 1985's Feel the Fire. (at MONSTERS OF ROCK) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9WxHpzJZGs/?igshid=7orgsndahnf8
