People on Twitter denying that Engage’s cast is very queer coded is really funny to me lmao

Like, to an extent, I can understand it seems cheap and inoffensive just to make Alear’s romances gender neutral and them being the only ones to have paired endings is sad. Fair.

But deliberately ignoring how fruity the Engage cast is? What? Supports between Fogado/Alcryst, Fogado/Pandreo, Diamant/Amber, Etie/Goldmary, Celine/Hortensia are very gay! Anything that comes out of Alfred’s mouth is gay! Merrin is very les to the point her personal skill is her escorting women like the handsome gal she is!  Kagetsu and Chloe are very open and brazen with their gay words (okay maybe the former is explained by language barriers but honestly he’s probably queer, too)! Rosado personally executed the gender police himself!

Part of the criticism of Engage’s queerness is that no character “uses it in a meaningful way” i.e. explain deeper parts of their characters, and Twitter people compared it to X, Y, and Z characters from the game that shall not be named, and idk, personally in a game with a tone like Engage, it matters less to be specifically descriptive and matters more to be more playful and fun with it. It’s not like Fates where there were only two same sex S support characters and so they had to be written with that directly in mind for their characters (which Treehouse then removed, damn thee), but Engage from the jump tries to be more feel good and hopeful, so not only does there not really need to be character arcs intertwined with implied differing sexualities, that opens the avenue for more of the cast to be read as queer/queer coded by fans.

Thank you so much for the ask, this one is actually a bit tough since I’ve only played Engage twice and done so using uh… questionable rosters of units, so the supports I’ve seen ended up a bit limited.

There are also just SO many amazing sapphic ships, since like you said the girls are gay as fuck, so narrowing it down to favorites without listing absolutely everything is a bit daunting lol.

First and foremost I think Ève and Seforia should kiss, perhaps even kiss me if they’re feeling a bit spicy.

I also think Saphir is just outright, one of the most attractive women in the game. I do sadly lack outright ships for her though, but I read a Saphir x Goldmary fic that was absolutely incredible.

(Sidenote if anyone has some sapphic Saphir ships they love, please tell me, I want them.)

On my first playthrough of Engage the big sapphic ships that popped out at me based on supports were, Goldmary x Etié, Yunaka x Citrinne, and Chloé x Merrin.

Also honorable mention to Goldmary x Merrin, I’ve written it for my lovely friend more than once, and it is safe to say I’ve been converted to her ways.

Also also the amazing Solm polycule with Merrin, Timerra, and Pannette. I love all of them!

My second playthrough when Fell Xenologue came uh… was a reckoning of Ivy ships. Nel and Zelestia both are just, so high up there for me, and I really really love either or both of them with Ivy, or even just with each other for that matter.

Nel actually is probably my engage best girl, because I am not immune to that voice of hers.

The big elephant in the room here is probably the lack of Alear ships. I actually do like Alear, like way more than I expected to going in, and do think that her sapphic ships are hella cute, but a lot of them don’t pop to me as much as some of the other units.

Hi I'm a new anon who returned to tumblr

I was investigating that f!alear sockpuppet person because they were treating a close friend horribly and my lord, people on discord are starting to call her out without mentioning her and I think she's actually stopping?

Regulars in the character servers she keeps rejoining are treating her as a new person on her latest accounts (Merrin Fan & Divine Dragon) but they're saying stuff like "I wonder why people who hate [A certain prince from Engage] keep joing a server dedicated to him" and "Why is it always f!Alear fans who like the same 3 characters (Timerra, Merrin, Goldmary) that have a problem with male characters?" whenever she rants about something stupid.

It causes her to stop talking and leaving the server a less than a day later, so it might be a start in getting her to either slow down or start giving up. I genuinely hope she stops and does some self reflection.

There is also a chance she might make a new tumblr aita claiming another server is 'bullying' her since she got access to a server's vent channel, and several people were talking about the ao3 issue and talking about her alt accounts after she complained about her alear x alcryst fanfic situation on a now deleted account. (It went by DivineDragonFan)

Ok I am still unsure about her because the big problem is that she is hiding behind different persona and pretending to be someone else everytime so she doesn't face the consequences of her actions but it's honestly a good thing if she is starting to calm down (though I doubt it)

Update, and also top three Petrine’s…

Hey guys, no new fics sadly, I’m still far too sick to write and a full recovery from my current (entirely preventable but we don't need to talk about that, thanks doctors) ailment could take up to six weeks.

HOPEFULLY I’ll be able to think more clearly for longer periods, and therefore write, much before that, but knowing my luck there is a nonzero chance I’m just fucked.

I’m holding out hope though, and starting to go a hit stir crazy after almost a week of being even more nonfunctional than usual, so I wanted to make a post.

I’ve written a LOT of Petrine content over the past year and a half, and I figured it would be fun to make a post about my top three favorite Petrine projects, in no particular order.

Surprisingly enough, my longfic is actually number four so these will all be smaller much more manageable fics that you can check out if you feel like it!

Broken Body, Broken Will, Broken Bonds

To start out we have my first ever Petrine/Titania project, and it is… an angsty depressing character study of them both. There’s definitely a theme when it comes to the favorite Petrine fics I’ve written, they all tend to be quite light on smut, if there is any at all, and very character focused.

Almedha, or Queen Almedha

After that we have this fic, taking place in a much more divergent alternate universe than the one before. This one was also written in response to a tumblr anon, so thank you anon! You’re officially my favorite anon. (Don’t tell anyone.)

Seriously though, I really love this fic, and despite having written it myself a certain specific scene gave me so much brainrot that I ended up commissioning an incredibly talented artist to draw it. Updates on that have been pretty sparse but I’ll be sure to share it with you all once I’m done. 🖤

One of Her People

Lastly we have perhaps the most divergent alternate timeline of all, in fact, this fic started off as a planned scene for Elegy of a Forgotten Heir, which became its own independent project after that longfic had to be put on hold so I could focus on supporting myself with commissions.

While intended to be a platonic exchange, friends of mine actually started shipping Vika and Petrine because of this fic, which was just, so flattering to see, but even without that personal feeling of accomplishment, I really love her characterization in this fic.

Well, those are the three fics, none with any smut and all differing degrees of angsty/bittersweet, though the second one is by far the least so.

Typing this out took… a really long time, so much time that I probably should have proofread it, but I want to get it out, seeing the little notification dot when I tab into the website gives me dopamine and also a bit of anxiety but that is starting to improve thankfully.

Anyway uh, if my recovery is as slow as I fear it might be we may get a few more posts like this, otherwise I will hopefully back to publishing fics for you all to enjoy soon.
