Fic 1: Dragon snuggles, part 2 (Kaleth/Mel)
Ever since meeting him, Mel had always wondered what Kaleth would look like if he fully transformed. Sure, he always said that he was terrible at it, and those wings Relioth had taught him to summon were good enough, but that didn’t mean Mel didn’t want to know what Kaleth as a dragon would look like.
Not to mention it would be very fun to fly around together, cuddle like that, or do
other activities. It all sounded very nice, and even though Kaleth didn’t know how to do it, Mel knew if an Eternal was willing, they could let themselves be shapeshifted by another Eternal. Mereria had done it for Rayni, after all. He was sure it couldn’t be hard to figure out.
But the question was if Kaleth was willing. Which mean Mel had to go approach the issue.
He found Kaleth in the living room, staring into his phone as he lay on the couch. Mel resisted the urge to grin, finding the image of Kaleth being so relaxed very adorable.
As soon as he approached, Kaleth took notice of him, smiling up at him and putting the phone away. Mel didn’t hesitate before lying down next to him and putting his arms around his chest. He liked very few things more than cuddling with Kaleth. He had no idea how he’d survived for four centuries without him.
“Hey, honey?” Kaleth turned his head to better look Mel in the eye. Gods, his eyes were so pretty. “What do you think you’d look like as a dragon?”
Kaleth huffed out a laugh. “Some kind of monstrosity, more than likely.”
Mel scowled. He knew that Kaleth was talking about his lack of skill with shapeshifting, but he didn’t like that he might be saying that because he thought he was a bad person. “I bet you’d look beautiful.”
Kaleth frowned, studying him. “What’s on your mind, love?”
Mel blushed, ducking his head. He’d not meant to be this obvious, but Kaleth was smart. Of course he could tell Mel hadn’t brought this up just as a conversation topic. “Well, I was thinking maybe I could help you transform.”
Kaleth’s eyebrows rose and he propped himself up by his elbows. “Truly? You can do that?”
Mel grimaced. He didn’t know how sure he should be about this. Maybe it took a lot of skill that he didn’t have. But he thought it was worth trying, at least. There was no harm in that, right?
“I wanna try.” After a second of Kaleth looking thoughtful and saying nothing Mel continued. “Do
do you?”
Kaleth shrugged, smiling fondly at him. “Well, I don’t see why not. But we should do it outside. I don’t want to break all the furniture.”
Mel nodded, grinning. Kaleth was in a very good mood, it seemed, to joke around like that. He was usually hesitant to try new things, but Mel was certainly not complaining.
And so they got in the car, going back to the desert they’d been flying in since they knew it was peaceful. The sand was a bit difficult to get off and clean up afterward. It didn’t stick to his scales, but when he transformed back, there was always sand on him somewhere. But Mel didn’t mind. The sand baths were too nice to pass up on.
When they arrived, a change of mood was clear. Kaleth seemed troubled in a way that Mel had learned usually meant he was nervous, as their soul bond was telling Mel, and didn’t want to show it. Mel wanted to assure him that there was nothing to be nervous about, but pointing it out would probably just make it worse. Kaleth didn’t like to appear weak, even to Mel, and while he’d been getting better at opening up to him, it was still a touchy subject.
“Okay, so how does this work?” Kaleth asked, fiddling with his hands a little, which Mel felt a little bad about finding adorable.
“Um, I think I need to touch you, and
.” Yeah, Mel had no idea how to do this. But all of his powers were very intuitive, so he was going to go with that. “Let’s see.”
He took Kaleth’s hand into his, ignoring his heart fluttering as it did every time he did that, and shut his eyes. He tried to do what he usually did when shapeshifting—think about turning into a dragon. But this time he thought of Kaleth doing it.
Mel wasn’t expecting it to be so easy, so when the effect was immediate and successful, he was just as shocked as Kaleth was. Kaleth, who was now golden, large, and awe-inspiring.
“This is very strange,” Kaleth practically squeaked, which would be hilarious coming from a dragon, but Mel was too taken aback by the sight in front of him to properly pay attention to that.
The most striking feature of Kaleth’s new body were the silver, shiny antler-like horns on his head. They looked like twisting branches of some ancient tree. Mel had never seen that on any Eternal before, and it made Kaleth look so majestic. And he still had the feathery wings! The wing bone was now plated with golden scales, but the grayish, silver color with golden specks of the feathers was the exact same.
Mel couldn’t help but make a circle around Kaleth, studying him from every angle with his mouth hanging open. He’d known Kaleth would be beautiful, but not this beautiful. But Mel supposed he shouldn’t have been surprised. He was very beautiful in human form, too.
“W-what do I look like?” Kaleth asked, sounding a little freaked out as he spun around and stumbled, trying to catch a glimpse of himself.
And Mel immediately felt his inside twist with guilt. Here he was gawking, while his love was confused and scared by the new, strange body he was now in. And he was scared. Mel didn’t need to consult their bond on that. It was obvious from Kaleth’s huge eyes.
“Hey, shh, it’s okay.” Mel stroked his hand over Kaleth’s snout, scratching his neck, knowing that would relax him. Kaleth’s eyes widened in shock before closing halfway, a happy rumble vibrating against Mel’s hand as he continued to run his fingernails over the smooth scales. They were so beautiful, perfectly smooth and warm.
“You look beautiful,” Mel finally answered Kaleth’s question, grinning up him. And then he let out an aww noise when he noticed the little brown flecks dotting the upper part of Kaleth’s snout. “And you still have the freckles!”
Mel immediately went searching for more, quickly finding a few spots on Kaleth’s neck and shoulders where Mel knew he had more freckles. Kaleth always seemed a bit embarrassed about them for some reason, but Mel loved them and ran his eyes over them as often as he could.
“Okay, but what do I look like?” Kaleth asked, sounding calmer now, but he still seemed unnerved as he stared at his wing, moving it slowly.
“Oh, I’ll take a picture!”
Mel immediately did as he’d said, taking a few steps back so he could take a photo of Kaleth in his entirety. He needed to send this to Rayni immediately, too. Kaleth was too glorious not to share.
As soon as he was done, he rushed back to Kaleth, showing him the photo. The reaction was immediate.
“I have antlers?!”
Kaleth immediately tried to bring his claws up to touch his horns, but his front legs couldn’t go up that far, so with a huff of annoyance he planted his claws on the ground again, shaking his head.
“You look majestic,” Mel tried to assure him. And then he got the idea for a bad joke. “I know I technically am the reason you have antlers, but I’d never cheat on you, Kally.” (editor’s note: this joke only works in Czech, I do not care)
Kaleth stared at him for a moment before letting out another huff, this time an amused one. “Did you seriously just say that?”
Mel just grinned and hugged Kaleth’s long neck. He was actually maybe a little smaller than Mel’s dragon form was. That was interesting since power directly seemed to relate to size, but he supposed it made sense when Kaleth was barely giving himself enough Eternal energy to not be bothered by the extreme temperatures of the desert.
Mel’s grin widened when Kaleth hesitantly brought his wings to hug him back, the feathers glinting in the sun. Gods, they were gorgeous. Mel ran a hand over one of the flight feathers, surprised at how strong they seemed. They looked soft and vulnerable, but the shafts were as hard as steel.
“This is very strange,” Kaleth said again, thankfully sounding more confused than dismayed. “How do I even walk with four legs?”
It was clearly time for Mel to shapeshift, too. Once he did, he nuzzled Kaleth’s neck, unable not to resist, before leaping away. “Come on, it’s easy.”
Kaleth didn’t seem convinced as he took a step forward. With both of his front legs. Mel wasn’t able to get to Kaleth quick enough to stop him from falling face-first into the sand as he tripped over his own feet. It was adorable, but Mel couldn’t let Kaleth know he thought that or he’d sulk for the remainder of the day. Kaleth sulking was cute, too, but not when Mel knew he was going through emotional turmoil.
Noticing embarrassment in Kaleth’s eyes, Mel helped him, nudging him up with his head and then nuzzled him again. “Just look how I do it.”
He took a few slow steps, letting Kaleth see him move his legs. The poor guy still looked embarrassed, but he was nodding along.
“Oh, I see. Of course.” Now he sounded annoyed again, clearly at himself. Mel resisted the urge to sigh and instead gave Kaleth an encouraging smile as he took a few slow steps, gradually increasing his speed as he very deliberately moved his legs, stumbling every so often. Mel could practically hear Kaleth counting the steps in his head.
“Honey, you’re doing great, but you’re thinking about it too much,” Mel said, trying to be gentle. Kaleth made an expression that could only be described as pouting, even though his new, reptile face didn’t quite allow it.
It was remarkable how much to Mel he still looked like Kaleth, though. He was just bigger and shinier. Mel resisted running up to him to tackle him into a hug. He wasn’t sure why the desire to do it was so strong, but it really was.
“That is easy to say for someone who’s been doing this for hundreds of years.”
Mel laughed. Kaleth was just super cute when he was being grumpy. “Don’t be silly. It didn’t take me centuries to learn how to walk.”
Kaleth looked even grumpier, his eyes narrowed, and his pout much more prominent, but he said nothing, trying to walk faster. He was still stumbling a bit, though, and was keeping his gaze trained on his front legs, every so often looking at his hind ones as well as he tried to navigate his new limbs.
“It should be intuitive,” Mel tried again, but Kaleth didn’t seem to be listening. It seemed he would have to force his hand. “Come on!”
Mel began running at full speed, leaving Kaleth behind as he sprinted along the dunes.
“Wait!” he heard Kaleth cry after him, but he forced himself not to stop. He needed Kaleth to chase after him and stop thinking about which leg he should move next. It took all his willpower not to run back when he looked over his shoulder, seeing Kaleth struggling not to lose him, but Mel kept running, only slowing down a little.
After another half minute, though, he was practically walking. Kaleth had still not caught up. Maybe he should go back? He didn’t want to distress Kaleth, and he could tell he was upset right now.
But just as Mel stopped, considering coming back to Kaleth, he suddenly heard Kaleth running behind him. He spun around, smiling as he saw the golden dragon sprinting toward him. Kaleth came to a halt right in front of him, skidding and spraying sand everywhere as he did, his wings flexing a bit to help him slow down.
“You did it!” Mel exclaimed, jumping to him and nuzzling his neck. Kaleth didn’t nuzzle him back though, instead scowling and looking anywhere but at Mel. “Aw, are you mad at me?”
Kaleth huffed, but there was an amused spark in his eyes.
“You know I’d never leave you behind.” Mel leaned in, licking Kaleth’s nose. Kaleth blinked, finally looking at him again. And then he licked him back. Mel laughed, nuzzling Kaleth’s jaw. There were little spikes along it, and it felt very nice against his scalp.
“Don’t do that again,” Kaleth grumbled. Mel smiled, pulling one wing over Kaleth’s slightly smaller frame.
“I won’t,” Mel promised, feeling a little bad for upsetting Kaleth. Not enough to not lightly tease him, though. “But you have to admit, it worked out great.”
“Mel,” Kaleth warned, and Mel laughed, rubbing his cheek against Kaleth’s and pulling his wing closer around him. This had been a great idea after all.

The third Sprouse
What I love about this test shoot is that all three of us went with whatever we felt that day -- no pegs to follow! The stylist and I saw Stu's uncanny resemblance to Cole Sprouse (you can google him) that we decided to capitalize on that detail. Gail just finished styling a gig with vintage 80s pieces so she was packing a lot of clothes in loud colors, flashy material with that distinct odd fit from the decade that I grew up in. It was definitely a fun day playing around & this... this was the end result.

Young Negrense singers perform in virtual Covid-19 tribute
#PHnews: Young Negrense singers perform in virtual Covid-19 tribute
BACOLOD CITY – Some 25 Negrense youth singers shared their voices for an online tribute to the country’s battle against the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
The performers are featured in a video singing “We are the World” posted on the CORE: Children's Optimization for the Revitalization of Environment’s Facebook page.
Dubbed “Negrosanon para sa Pilipinas: A Covid-19 Tribute”, the initiative was inspired by similar presentations in different countries like United States and Morocco.
Performers were mostly from Bacolod City. Others were from Silay City, Talisay City, San Carlos City, La Carlota City, Canlaon City, La Castellana, Valladolid, and E.B. Magalona.
The video was posted on Friday (May 15) and as of Monday afternoon, the Facebook post has an organic reach of 75,000 and roughly 21,000 views.
CORE chairperson Elmeer Meeynard Calimpos, who directed the project, said that with the help of his friends, who were willing to record their parts at home, the virtual performance came to life.
He started adding friends on Facebook Messenger on May 7, and they started working virtually and completed the project on May 14.
“A one-week preparation is not easy, but with great passion and perseverance to inspire others, everything is possible. I also believe that in times of community quarantine, it is more viable to create this kind of project,” Calimpos said.
He added the “Negrosanon para sa Pilipinas: A Covid-19 Tribute” is a great opportunity for local musicians to share their skills to inspire people across the country to keep their faith while staying at home.
Calimpos said the virtual performance is for the front-liners who are risking their lives in the battle against Covid-19 as well as to the people who have stepped up and gone the extra mile to lend a helping hand to the vulnerable sector, and even to those who are staying at home taking care of their families.
He added that through the video, they also want to thank the sponsors of the CORE donation drive in Bacolod, which has raised PHP34,000 in cash and PHP153,000 in-kind donations.
“We have reached more than 1,000 families in Bacolod. They received food packs, and 'hope kits' were also given to vulnerable children,” he said. Hope kits contain essentials for children like milk, biscuits, soaps and diapers.
He also said that amid the uncertainty, young Negrense singers found comfort in music by sharing a song of hope with the rest of the country.
Calimpos, who is one of the performers in the video, is joined by Danielle Jalla Barrato, Sapphire de la Peña, Blanche Sta. Maria, Johnrose Fritzi Marquez, Pauline Mae Villaluna, Jerianne Marie Panisales, Ysabella Beatriz Dolloso, Czar Jamil Flores, Nimrod Diaz, Efraim Arroz Jr., Janine Liezel Mereria, Charity Abinion, Maria Alexandra Geolingo, Kyla Faye Marree Pille, Joeffer Galve, Niña Ysabelle Diaz, Brooklyn Gael Padios, Christian Allen Morales, Famille Flores, Angela Alpas Lapastora, Chris Noel Bernalde, Harold Navares Jr., Noemi Grace Benitez and Rheign Distrito, with Noel Genoraga Jr. as audio engineer.(PNA)
