a cute little book filled with visdev(?) for an original project. There was a tiny bit of disappointment though BC my favourite illusts/layouts were in the accompanying (much more fragile) newsletter and only as v small thumbs in the artbook. like this is where the real charm is y'know? 🥹 but I'm scared to handle it too much

a one piece fanbook bought on a whim. it's apparently the artist's fourth one piece fanbook and this one is pretty thick! it's just a very warm collection and I like that the illusts have a trad feel to them.

first thing to know is that this book is fucking huge and the box it came in looks like a pizza box. I want to say 30cm by 30cm?

the books illusts are sorted by colour (often with a matching little symbol). the unwieldy size is absolutely justified by the level of fine texture & detail in merasgars paintings. like you really appreciate being able to zoom in close. mostly religious & traditional/historical Chinese themed (as the cover indicates) but there's some modern & western themed too. their illusts really feel powerful it's scary.. a religious experience indeed..

Hi! You have such a nice art style, how did you end up developing it? Are you happy where it's at now, or do you wish to change certain things? Do you have any inspirations?

Howdy Anon, I'm glad you like my art style! I'll try to number the questions so it's easier to read :)

1.) How did I end up developing my art style?

When lockdown hit in 2020, I was able to draw more so it definitely helped me somewhat, I still didn't seek out to improve. But afterwards, in 2021, my art style plateaued significantly.

Before that, I just kind of drew whatever was easiest without leaving my comfort zone. I didn't actively seek out improvement.

I only started taking my art style and development seriously around a year ago when I entered the Call of Duty fandom. I got into the mindset that I need to improve my skills in order to draw tactical gear properly, it took a lot of observation and experimentation with an end goal in mind. Basically I just wanted my OC to look like an actual character in the game lol

2.) Am I happy with the art style I have now, or do I wish to change certain things?

I would be lying to you if I said I'm content with what I have now.

Am I proud of my accomplishments I made along the way to get to this point? Yes. Would I be happy for my art style to stay this way? No. I can be proud of a piece but after a while it loses its effect.

I feel that if I'm content with how things are, it closes the door of opportunity for improvement because I KNOW I can do better. Specifics I want to change is how stiff everything looks to me and overall the speed in which I draw.

I wish for my work to grow and change as I do over time.

3.) What are my inspirations?

Ooh this is a hard question.

I have alot of inspirations for my work, and they always change with time. When someone asks me what my inspirations for art are, I generally assume they mean my inspirations from when I started out. So here's a list of creators that helped shape my art experience to what it is now.
