Someone's uncredited gay mermaid shipping art on Pinterest sparked a little rp AU

----------- Emmet is a mermaid/siren, luring sailors with graceful dances and shimmering white scales. No sailor can resist. none but one.

Aiden Wayfare, in this AU, is still a sailor, a captain with his own ship. Said ship just so happens to fall victim to the lure of a group of sirens. Men and women alike are captivated by the songs and displays the beautiful creatures offer, some jump overboard and are torn apart in moments.

All sailors are affected—but one. Aiden is demi and not interested, which frustrates Emmet to hell.

The next storm the ship battles goes catastrophic as there's a crew missing. Captain Aiden gets swept overboard and is now shipwrecked. This gives Emmet a chance to figure out why tf this particular human remained unaffected by his lure.

Eli is a flying fish mer I introduced in a story a while back. She was rescued by Aiden, and the two had to stay together for a little bit. The mer has to find her way back to her home in the deep blue, and the Wile giant has to ensure that she will get there no matter what it takes.

Maybe next mermay, I'll revisit this concept. We'll see x3

So it’s MerMay once again and I was feeling down that I wasn’t drawing any mers. But then I remembered these drawings from my endless oceans blue world au that I have. Basically I put our vapor wave dnd characters into the game. But since we have many characters I decided to make the dolphins merfolk so that we could fit more characters into it. So for the few people who do play the game, Sandia is the porpoise that you befriend and Soraen is the short beaked common dolphin that you get in the beginning of the game. My friend @chainsthatbindthisrouletteofmine ‘s character Aiden is the main diver you play as, and @palmtree-panic ‘s character Etheran is GG in this au.

Anyway this is all the art I have of it for now, but other then the concept art I did a mini comic of my favorite part in the whole game where a whale just shows up in the middle of the Cortica river for no reason. Idk I thought it was funny

Okay as promised to feed you headcanons on interactions we had:

Irina and Aiden:

-Given she has a love for warm bread I feel given the HSA harvest event he could have made her a nice treat with it... he is a god in cooking among my ocs so I feel it will hit her like a truck how good it is... and that from a guy who doesn't seem like it at all...

-Her seemingly more stuttery in her language and him being super protective makes me think of a situation where she is just nervous and overwhelmed and he stands before making sure that she is protected and gets a rest. Aiden does have that glare that can scare others away that bother her

-Its winter and they share a scarf, cause it be cute and I can see Aidens ears twitch being slightly red and silent

-Both know about hanging out with the wrong people at times, so I feel it be a time where Aiden invite her to his dorm and from the tree houses looking down they could probably both share trauma and eventually hold anothers hand in assurance as in now they got another really

Victor and Eiji

-The beginning of their meeting be interesting to explore cause... Eiji is a homunculus... neither human neither fae nor beast or mer people... he is just a puppet so probably by default Victor might have not be interested in him untill watching his behaviour and what is off about it likely... Eiji is obviously hiding his true nature... but the accesoires, the rabbit paw in his room and the late night going outs are indicators something

-Victor wouldn't fear his threats and probably dig deeper into what he does and what is his secret but keep his secret... in exchange of being allowed to spend time with him... Eiji is still tired of it but does admit he likes his fascination so he grows softer

-I feel however Victor sadly helps him to get even better at covering up so it might be a danger to others, but them being lovers is just a twisted fascination with morbid things for sure

Veronica and Flynn

-He names people he loves after gems so checking his list he might name her Aquamarine

-I feel in the beginning he slightly egged her on... like they had a sword fight against another and all this man did is dodge instead of attack with so much precision it was hard to keep up with and even if she won she just asked him why he didn't attack and he just answer like "Cause watching you is more beautiful." he is a bastard like that.

-Some of her lines on her profile makes me think she might really start to care when she knows how less he cares about himself cause man sees his own life not of value and she could smack sense into him that dead he is moreso worth nothing than alive, its all him living to use his life for others not for himself that drove him with his trauma that way

-He wouldn't say anything about her brother at all... he himself did some bad things so he aint one to judge, and him being a bird might even get him and Victor to also be on decent terms

-This man will literally bring her huge bouquets and always be there surprisingly to be kept in her mind... I said he is percistent and that is mostly for once he found someone that fully got his interest he works hard to impress them... even if he would be better dropping his mask and being himself but... old habits die hard

-Either way if they get together or close she would find out about silly things on him like... hiding he likes fastfood to seem fancy and being terrible at cooking

The Irina and Aiden stuff, just cute and wholesome as always

Just know it'd take a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT for her to share her own traumas

She's probably the least willing to out of all my OCs. Even more so than Victor surprisingly?

Partly because she just had it reinforced in her mind so many times over and over growing up that if she didn't always make whoever she was around happy everyone would leave, so she had to just bottle everything up But she wouldn't be as assertive about boundaries as Victor would be, so if she felt like there was any kind of pressure for her to open up that'd just make it harder for her. That 'the more you reassure, the less I trust' kinda vibe

Also partially because she just really doesn't want anyone to make a big deal out of it. Like, she's already been through it, so someone making a big deal out of it and being worried about her would just make her feel worse I think

There are legitimately AUs I've imagined her in where she never tells ANYONE about the stuff she went through as a kid

My first thought about Victor and Eiji is— I feel like Victor would think he was interesting from the word 'go'. Liars can usually spot another liar a mile away, after all.

And the moment he gets even the TINIEST hint that Eiji isn't human, he is LOCKED IN. He is going to figure out this man's secret if it kills him. He wouldn't actually mind if it did kill him actually. That'd just make him even MORE obsessed actually. Freak that he is, he even finds it sorta romantic???

Like 'damn this person really just killed me because I got close to figuring out their secret. They're the one' lol

And yeah...every single ship I've ever imagined Victor in before the OC x Canon-TWST ship I have him in has been him and the other person 100% just making each other worse lol

Oooo and with Flynn and Veronica— first of all, she is a MASSIVE tsundere. STUBBORN about trying to seem like she doesn't care and thinks everything and everyone is stupid.

But if he was actively flirty like that from the get-go she'd more turn her nose up and like cross her arms and go 'hmph!' and like look away like she couldn't care less. She wouldn't be actively flustered by that specific kind of flirting, but that she's not actively like 'get tf out of my sight rn' is as much indication as you're gonna get that she's fine with it.

Mostly just because she doesn't believe he's being sincere.

Oh but she would 100% fall for him egging her on to fight every single time, and when he did nothing but dodge she'd just get even more upset, and if he het her with that line then, oh, she's DONE Like-- face is so red, and she's so flustered she keeps trying to like insult him (bc that's the only way she knows to react to feeling attacked lol, and she definitely feels attacked-- just hasn't figured out it's not in a bad way yet) but she can't even speak

So she's just like screeching and stuttering incoherently like:

"What?! Wh-wha— you— what do you— th-that's not— I never said— you— I— bgaaah!"

And then she's just storming off because she has no idea how to deal with that lol

Oh and she'd have a big thing of like: "Where the hell did you get 'Aquamarine' from?" (even funnier if he just refuses to tell her why lol)

Oh, and an interesting thing about Veronica is that, I don't think she really cares too much for gifts? She likes gifts that she can use— like a tool, or equipment of some kind, or clothing, or food But, though she'd understand the sentiment behind it, I think she'd struggle to know what to do with the roses lol

And a thing I love about Veronica is that when she has her 'oh shit' moment of 'I would care if you died/were gone', like-- she is gonna move literal mountains for you.

You wormed your way under her skin and inside her heart (somehow) so now you have to take responsibility for that! And by 'responsibility' she means taking good enough care of yourself that she won't need to worry about losing you. Because it would absolutely DEVASTATE her. She knows this about herself. That's why she's so cautious with letting people close to her in the first place

She is gonna force you to take care of yourself whether you like it or not

And honestly...I can see her just buying him fast food lol

She sees straight through that and does NOT have the patience to play along with his facade, she does not care how hard he tries to fake it because it does not work on her lol

Disclaimer:I think reviews and opinions show a lot about who you are and your life exp so. I am a woman lover who is 30 with ADHD. I am cisgendered she/her. I like listening to books on my drive in and out of work. I’ve read and watched a lot of scifi and fantasy and these books reflect that too.

In order of most loved:

1. Most Ardently by Gabe Cole Novoa 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈⏳ Historical Romance. this beautifully crafted novel moved me to tears. Set in a historical, mundane world, it captures the essence of the original while offering a fresh perspective.

2. Some Desperate Glory by Emily Tesh 👯‍♀️🏳️‍🌈👽🚀now MC Romance very very low I like to think she’s a little bit some where in the ace spectrum but 🥹🥹 Avicenna gives you enough gay vibes trust me. It is a real journey. MC is broken out of her brainwashing and tries to save the Earth and Universe. It’s high Sci-fi fun. I really loved it.

3. The Last Binding Trilogy by Freya Marske 🏳️‍🌈👯‍♀️🏳️‍🌈🪄⏳🔎 Alright each book is from a different intertwined couple’s POV. Each book is very much historical wizard mystery’s found family. Each book has steamy interesting spicy scenes. I find this series more impressive now because I still think about the couples and its universe was fun. Side note the last couple is the best.

4. The Tithenai Chronicles by Foz Meadows 🏳️‍🌈⏳🪄🔎 it’s more historical than super magical but both books have decent mysteries. It’s about an arranged royal marriage one comes from a conservative country suffering from trauma which we get to see but is treated respectfully and not harped on and the other is a warrior who is a little neurospicy. So Velasin is so dear to me I forgive a lot because he’s baby and I love him. They have non binary characters and disabled characters in the story being treated like people. There is some very spicy scenes in these two books. The new character in the second book so amazing they reminds me of Tennal from Oceans Echo in spirit anyway. I liked them. But his spicy scenes had me blushing for days. A con of this book is it’s very emotional so depression trauma warnings.

5. Sunbearer Trials by Aiden Thomas 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🦹🦜 I can’t believe I forgot to do a review of this one considering I really enjoyed it. So it’s YA dystopian Latin America folklore kind of like superhero and god goddess. Really heart warming found family coming of age. Also in the vein of hunger games etc. I loved the universe and the structure of the world. Each character was well developed throughout the book. Main character is someone you want to see succeed. I’m so excited for book 2. Lots of neurospicy peeps represented in my opinion.

6. Simon Snow Trilogy by Rainbow Rowell🏳️‍🌈🪄🧛🏻🐲 Also YA feel book one has a lot of Harry Potter jabs but it’s not a direct parody. I also think in book 2 3 they take jabs at diff genres which was fun. The series is very funny has perspective from all the characters. The universe is interesting. Romance is decent. Lovable characters. It isn’t good to think too hard about anything.

7. The Unbroken by CL Clark 👯‍♀️⏳👑🪄 this book would be higher up if I wasn’t iffy on the main couple individually I’d rank both leads pretty high on best characters. It’s a book about colonialism political magic rebellion found family. It’s action packed it’s interesting with a good mystery. A disabled main character and a more male presenting lesbian with is something new. Touraine is going to do what Touraine thinks in her heart while Luca serves with her brain and wallet.

8. So this is ever after by f. t. Lukens 🏳️‍🌈👯‍♀️🪄👑⏳ Does what it says on the tin is YA. Medieval setting with standard fantasy quest group. Very easy read.

9. Out of the Blue by Jason June 🏳️‍🌈🧜🏻‍♂️🎬🎓very YA vibes. Very romance. About a nonbinary mer person on their journey out of the ocean to help a human and a film obsessed gay chubby human on his journey to get over a relationship. I would have this book ranked higher except for the ending and School vibes do kind of make me cringe.

10. Temperature of You and Me by Brain Zepka 🏳️‍🌈🦹🔎 about a boy whose skin is fire and human who works at a dairy queen. Mystery is weak some holes in the plot.Romance very immature. School age kids.

Okay so audible had a sale anddd I got a couple titles on there (if I have to spend a fortune on gas and tolls I’ll spend a small one on the books that keep me sane) and I have 4 Libby audiobooks checked out. I still have a hard time with wlw books. Or too much thinking. It needs to hit a sweet spot for me since I’m usually driving in hard conditions so can’t use the super brain on the story. Anyways any suggestions or recs would be welcomed!!!

2 things: 1. ever since ive stumbled upon your ao3, no other, and i literally mean *no other* author even comes close to scratching the same itch. the way you portray every single character you write is honestly just so brilliantly done!! same goes for your art. pretty men & mer as far as the eye can see omfg 2. what voices do you imagine for your ocs? for example i myself could imagine nilandur to be voiced by keith silverstein :3 (AND I LOVE NIL SO MUCH I WISH HE WAS IN THE GAME)

Ahhhh the Voice Claim question. Y'know, it's funny, a lot of my characters have very distinct voices in my head, but it's been so difficult to find appropriate VCs for any of them. Except for Aerik -- he just sounds like Chris Pine in my head alskfja. Specifically Captain Kirk style Chris Pine, with a dash of Jack Frost. (I cannot describe the noise I made when the new DND movie trailer came out and I saw that the man would be playing a fucking bard.)

But as for Nilandur, I actually settled on Paul Bettany for his voice claim, and more recently, specifically his role in Master and Commander (which, I only saw this movie for the first time a couple of months ago, and I was just blown away by how very ~Nilandur~ Bettany's character is in this role - mannerisms, speech pattern, morals, etc. The clip I linked is pretty quiet, but I think it does a good job of showing his speech pattern. Also CW!!: click off before 1:45 unless you wanna see a guy getting flogged lol).

Harukar and Aiden also both have very distinct voices in my head, but I have yet to find good Voice Claims for them. Harukar sounds very similar to Nazir in terms of depth and timbre, but with a slight British-Arabic accent. Aiden is somewhat similar to Nilandur, but more nasally, a bit quicker in his speech patterns, and shifts in-and-out of a more high-born accent vs something considered lower class.

I'll continue to ramble if I don't cut myself off there. Thanks for such a fun question and such a high compliment!

"Welcome to the island." Xie whispers softly. "I hope you like it here."

Xie plops back into the water, swimming away.

"Xie was a seahorsie!" Aiden gasps, excited. "Pretty pretty fishie Gramma!"

Aiden lives in a small fishing village. His brother dissappeared years ago out at sea, leaving him to take care of his father. Most say he drowned. Some say that he ran away with a siren in the dead of night, betraying his own kind. Aiden is one of the latter ones. Not about the betrayal! Never! But just like their mother, Henry always had a special connecton to the sea.

One day when out fishing with some other people, something huge was caught in Aiden's net. He rushed to release it, thinking it was a dolphin, but no... It was a mermaid. One with ginger hair (Hela).

She was wild. Angry. Afraid.

The other fishermen start congratulating Aiden. They start debating what to do with the mer. Cook it? What would the meat of mer taste like? Keep it as a pet? No!

Sell it. Their small village will become the richest in the land.

Aiden's just still thinking about how afraid she was.

The mermaid gets tied to the deck between the ships still in the net for the night, bearly able to move within the thin ropes. That's when she hears someone coming.

It's the one who caught her, probably coming to admire his prey. But he CUTS THE NET.

Hela just stares, mouth open in shock, instead of swimming away(like an idiot* as Talon would say).

"Sorry you got caught in my net" he smiles apologetically "I'm Aiden"

"Hela... and don't apologize! It was dumb of me to go that close to a boat, really! I was just curious! But why let me go?"

"Are you serious?! Have you heard what the others said they'd do?! You're still a person, fish legs or not, I couldn't allow them to just sell you like a wild animal!"

Hela was surprised at the answer, but didn't question it. Instead:

"The other humans said the village would get a lot of money for me. Won't you get in trouble for this?" Hela knew trouble. There were two kinds: fun and not fun and this sadly seemed like the not fun one.

"Don't worry I'll handle it. It will be fine. But you should go! It was nice meeting you!"

Aiden smiled sweetly at her then left to where Hela couldn't follow, leaving her not at all convinved that he would be fine.

"For releasing the mermaid, and costing the village an inconceivable amount of gold I sentence you to death!"

Aiden was sentenced to death. Huh.

Hazel and Holly fought hard for him, claiming that he caught the mer, he had the right to to with her as he pleased, but to no avail. In the end with teary eyes that he tried so hard to hide he asked them to look after his father.

He was allowed to see the man one last time. He told Aiden:

"All of you: your mother brother and you all have a connection to the sea. Always had"

And then Aiden was put on a boat that took him out to sea to drown.

They were probably just the words of a grieving man like always, but to Aiden it seemed like his father meant something else.

His hands were tied together and a heavy rock was attached to his ankle. The weight pulled him all the way down to the bottom of the sea. Before he lost consciousness he saw huge fish swimming aroud him happily.

"Why do I go anywhere with you guys?" Talon asked. They were floating in the water way too close to a human village. Way, way too close considering that Hela was caught here not two days ago! Why were they here?

Well, apparently Hela befriended (had one conversation with) a human, and she was worried about him.

"We need to make sure he's ok!" hissed Hela.

"Seriously, we've been here all night, don't you think something would've happened by..."

He was shushed, but to his surprise not by Hela.

Maya was pointing to the docks.

"Something's happening!"

All of them lowered themselves into the water so that only their eyes were peaking out.

A boy, hands tied was being led to a big ship.

Hela gasped.

"That's him!"

Talon frowned. The way the others manhandled "Aiden" did not look very friendly.

They followed the ship, Talon and Maya trying to get Hela to keep her distance when they stopped in the middle of the ocean.

"What are they doing?" asked Hela way too loudly for Talon's liking.

"Maybe they stopped to fish-OH MY GOD!"

Aiden was put on a plank, a giant rock tied to his ankle. One of the humans kicked the rock that fell into the water yanking the boy down with it.

The mermaids started swimming after him as fast as they could. When they reached the bottom Aiden already passed out.

The mermaids here have the power to keep someone alive underwater by singing. The person will be asleep but unharmed.

Hela, Talon and Maya use this power, periodically changing who sings, and take Aiden to a safe place.

Now they are in a predicament. They can't take Aiden back to shore, because the closest human civilization is the one that kicked him out. They can't let anyone know about him, because it would cause a panic, so what do they do?

Well for now, someone always stays with him, singing to him, then someone else takes their place.

Days pass like this.

King Henry even notes one time that the three of them haven't been seen together for a few days now, almost giving Talon a heart attack.

"I'm telling king Callan. He'll know what to do" says Hela one day, far too seriously compared to her usual self.

"No you can't! Who knows what he'll do if he finds out you were almost sold?" argued Talon.

"I don't care! Look at him!"

And Talon did. Though their song kept him alive, Maya gently humming to him now while petting his hair, Aiden was in a coma. He hadn't had food for days. He was dying.

Before Talon could argue any farther Hela swam off.

"Stay with him" he told Maya "I'll see if I can take the brunt of the punishment myself"

Interaction with humans wasn't outlawed. King Henry grew up pretending to be one when Callan found him. But getting caught. Bringing a human here without permission...

But Hela knew that king Callan was a good king. He'd have mercy on Aiden even if she got fired from her job for this.

So she told them everything.

In the middle of her explanation Talon came, trying to take the blame for himself saying that he should've been with Hela.

"Please, you have to help him! He's really nice! He saved me! He's... he's actually from the same village king Henry used to live in! His name is Aiden, and he's my friend! It's my fault that this happened to him! Please-"

"What was his name?" Hela was cut off by her Henry's voice that was full of fear. Like he was starting at a shark.

Talon and Hela looked at each other.

"Aiden, my king" the boy said.

Callan grabbed Henry's hand.

"Take us to him!" He commanded.

Turns out Aiden was king Henry's brother.

Callan used his royal magic to turn the boy into a mermaid, and a tearful reunion took place, half of which was spent convincing Aiden that he wasn't dead, and yes that was really Henry.

Aiden was pretty clumsy with his new tail, but Talon was assigned to guard him, and teach him, much to his dismay (and no, he did not enjoy staring at the boy's golden scales at all).

Oh god I love your idea so much! I think I’m in love with this AU now. It’s really inspiring!

I like how Aiden caught but also freed Halea (a very Aiden thing to do!) and how she saved him in return!

And I like the fact that mermaids can keep humans alive underwater by singing! That’s a very neat detail!
