I’m currently procrastinating 1. my reading, 2. emailing my professors, 3. showering, all of which adds up to reappearing on Tumblr and trying not to feel guilty about being a terrible internet friend. That said, thanks @wolfofansbach for helping with that procrastination thing.
1. I have a long record of injuring myself in very stupid ways. Once I tore my meniscus by literally just standing up. And I had to have surgery and they found undissolved fetal tissue in my knee. So that was cool.
2. Okay, it wasn’t just the standing up. I’d injured it the summer before cliff jumping, but it didn’t snap and require surgery until the standing-up.
3. I’m pretty sure I could adequately describe my identity with just a collation of the books I’ve loved in my life.
4. Relatedly: I insisted my parents teach me to read when I was three because I wanted to read to them instead of them reading to me. I still hate listening to other people read.
5. My record is baking thirteen pies in one day. Yes, I have a personal record for that.
6. On Friday, at our grad-student-bar-gathering, one of the new students asked me if I had a boyfriend/partner/SO, and I responded by dramatically whipping out a candle I’d bought earlier at Bath and Body Works that smells like a really nice man, so that’s both how my love life is going and also what I’m going to be known for for at least the next nine months.
7. My mother once told me that you had to jump when you came to the end of an escalator, otherwise your shoes could get caught and you’d get hurt. My overactive imagination picked that up and turned it into visions of getting sucked into the escalator with all my bones crushed. I still take a very large step off the end of one. This attempt to keep me safe also somehow morphed into visions of children getting sucked into grocery store check-out belts and trapped in deep caverns underneath a la Prof. Moody in the trunk. 8. My go-to fun facts for icebreakers are either that I have on two separate occasions been in four different countries within twenty four hours or whatever kind of toothbrush I’m using at that moment. Right now it’s a pink monster toothbrush.
9. I’m allergic to kiwis.
10. When I was little, before I’d had the birds and bees talk, I thought the number of children a couple had was determined by how many minutes they kissed for at their wedding. I was clearly very sheltered. And had a great concept of time.
