So it turned out I was only 4 eps from the end of Love O2O so I finished that last night. My final thoughts are pretty much the same as my middle thoughts- whatever Hao Mei and K.O. had going on was way more interesting than the main romance.
Once again Mao Xiaotong plays a 'not pretty' character while being the prettiest and most capable actress (I guess technically not 'again' since this was out before Princess Weiyoung, but if I had a nickel for every time MXT plays a second fiddle when she's noticeably cuter, I'd have two nickels etc.).
And like, I don't know if there's an original novel for this so I certainly haven't read it, and I haven't seen any of the lead actress's other shows, but Wei Wei looked legit scared of Xiao Nai sometimes, often when it was supposed to come across as playful, and it's like, is this an acting choice, a point in the original, or just her face?
I did appreciate that the girls don't actually fight over guys or that whats-her-name's scheming actually worked, and that Wei Wei and Erxi's misunderstanding is resolved fairly quickly. And I didn't mind the Meng Yiran stuff, which could have been annoying- Yiran was clearly learning about herself and trying to be a better person. Meng Yiran actually had a better character arc than Bei Wei Wei, who is the same person at the end of the show as she was at the beginning. Maybe even less independent. Like, Bei Wei Wei is such a go-with-the-flow sort, and it's a little annoying to see her strive for nothing and still have everything fall into her lap. It's kind of annoying, and I think I understand Aiba Yuuki from Infinite Ryvius better.
(For my non-Ryvius friends out there, two of the main characters are the Aiba brothers, Kouji and Yuuki. When they were young, Kouji, the elder, is a go-with-the-flow personality, who doesn't really try very hard and avoids conflict. Yuuki is so annoyed by this weak-willed and ingratiating personality that he physically fights with Kouji (ostensibly over a girl, if I remember correctly, but it was really about Kouji's attitude towards the situation) and Kouji gets a big scar from his injuries. It's a little more complicated but that's the gist of it. Anyways, I always liked Kouji better and couldn't stand Yuuki, but seeing Wei Wei made me understand Yuuki's perspective a little better, because that is annoying to have to witness and deal with all the time.)
(Also that was all backstory, the show is not about two brothers fighting about stupid shit, Ryvius is a fantastic show for its time, it was my favorite anime for years and years, don't let my description stop you from watching it.)
So yeah, in summary, Love O2O is a fun little romp and I would recommend it, just don't be surprised if you're more invested in the side characters.

Yknow I finally took that leap and started watching Love O2O..
Other than the dubbing they somehow only did on Wei Wei’s actress (and no one else)... the most unbelievable thing so far is that Wei Wei’s friends straight up laughed at Wei Wei for suggesting Xiao Nai was looking at her during the basketball game (ep 10 or 11?), when this entire time, they’d been hyping up Wei Wei as this mega beauty...
And I’m like...how is it laughable that he (purely on a looks/appearance/superficial level) could be looking at the girl who apparently came second in the school wide beauty ranking??
I don’t mind Meng Yiran. Other than being a little catty and using her position as a rich girl, most of the backhanded or nasty things have been done either by or encouraged by Na Na...who’s really the most toxic one so far... Yiran just kinda has a strong crush on Xiao Nai with no real substance behind it... but she’s not a terrible person?
In any case the show has been fun so far, if a little slow paced... I’m ready for Hao Mei and KO to get going toooooo

Second-year Computer Science student Sakura never thought her road to find true love IRL would begin with a divorce in-game. But the Way of the Ninja is long and winding - and the person who takes her hand to travel it together is the last person she was expecting. How does the server's number one know who she is?!
Chapter 4 is up! In which Sakura and Sasuke try to beat the shit out of each other, and Sasuke wonders why he has idiots for friends

and Wattpad:https://www.wattpad.com/863847339-a-tiny-smirk-is-devastating-chapter-4-the-newly
Extended Authors Notes and behind the scenes worldbuilding notes after the jump, but spoilers exist so please read the chapter first!
So who thought Sasuke was going to win the fight? Honestly, with as many abilities as Sasuke has, I had a hard time figuring out the whole fight choreo, and I’m not the best at writing action in the first place. Somehow, there’s a lot more action in this fic than I was anticipating .___. The author handwaved a lot of it with a sentence or two in the original light novel, and the scenes in drama are expensive to film, but I REFUSE TO COMPROMISE....
So I torment myself and my Beta, writing things I’m not good at. Sorry Reg... Plus since I decided to use the Narutoverse as the game instead of the original Wuxia/Martial arts game setting, I can’t even steal their choreo. However, I do owe a debt of gratitude to all the Naruto Shippuden players who post their fights on youtube - you guys are the bomb.
It was fun though! I like watching Sakura beat the crap out of Sasuke, and this whole the fight scene is virtual, so it doesn’t actually hurt, lol (unlike actual canon).
And we get introduced to the guys! Their Naruto Character to Love O2O role mapping is a bit more fluid than the girls, because honestly the three of them are a bit interchangeable in the drama. Roughly, the mappings are (and I’ll give you the usernames while I’m at it):
Uzumaki Naruto (OldRamenMan)-> Yu Ban Shan (YuGongPaShan)
Inuzuka Kiba (Beowulf69) -> Hao Mei (Mo Zha Ta)
Akimichi Chouji (RollOutBoy) -> Qiu YongHou  (HouZiJiu)
Yamanaka Ino -> Meng Yiran
Please note that the story is tagged as an eventual InoSai, so no, no incest guys (Meng Yiran and Zhen Shaoxiang are cousins IRL). This means changes! Hehehe~ But I’ll leave you to wrack your brains over it, because that’s what I had to do to get this thing fully outlined. It’s going to be fun and it’ll work, I promise.
For those of you who are keeping track, chapter 4 is roughly the beginning of episode 2 in the drama. However, sharp-eyed and mathematically inclined readers on AO3 will notice that I have 108 chapters, so while I started with about a 3 chapters - 1 episode ratio.... yeah I didn’t keep to it. For those of you who haven’t seen the drama and don’t want the fic to be spoiled, go ahead and watch episode 1! It’s on youtube!

So I’ve been binge-watching Accidentally in Love this week, my second Chinese drama after Love O2O and at first I really, really loved it. Qingqing is a really awesome heroine and her relationship with Situ Feng has spark and chemistry. The secondary characters are charming and it’s honestly hilarious. For the first 2/3rds of the drama anyway.
Spoilers ahead...
I am now really struggling with it and it’s because of the Mean Girl, Lan Xinya. I get that the Mean Rich Girl is a trope from watching Love O2O and, like, every single US high school movie ever. Meng Yiran was pretty irritating in Love O2O but she was bearable because she didn’t actually seem to hold much sway over the other characters and she apologised at the end and got to leave with some dignity. Xiao Nai was always in Weiwei’s camp and Weiwei herself made a point of rising above it. Yes, she was annoying but she was bearable.
Lan Xinya is something else altogether. She has been a complete bitch to literally everyone apart from her tiny little posse of supporters and has really and truly publicly bullied Qingqing since day 1. This isn’t cool. One of the great things about Qingqing is that she has oodles of self-confidence and she knows she doesn’t deserve Xinya’s taunts and at first it was almost funny to hear Xinya lord her money, status and good looks over Qingqing when she and the viewers know that Qingqing out of disguise has got her beat.
But Xinya just won’t stop. And now she’s basically threatening suicide if she doesn’t get what she wants. And, like, this isn’t a joking matter! This is too serious! But the music goes soft when we see her ~pain. And like, I have no objection to showing mean people as 3D and explaining where their pain comes from and seeing them grow and overcome it - Lin Yiyang is a great example in this drama of the redeemable bad boy - but Xinya is getting worse and you can see she feels pain and then she knuckles down and comes up with another horrible, nasty, bullying, manipulative plot. She’s like Medea - without any nuance of feminist outrage. I cannot feel any sympathy for her at all and watching her and her antics take over the plot is killing my enjoyment in the show.
MOREOVER, and this is worse, Xinya is friends with the good guys and none of them call her out on it. Like??????? Xinya is literally out there bullying Qingqing in front of her best friends and new boyfriend and nobody does anything??!?!?! At the beginning of the show, I loved Qingqing for giving as good as she gets but now she’s just tired and taking it??? And Situ Feng does NOTHING??? Why is Xinya and her friend Lanting - who is apparently like Situ Feng’s childhood bestie - accepted in their circles? Situ Feng and Gu Nanxi and Hua Munian are all good people and Yiyang is a good person who used to be a bully so should have no issue with putting people in their place. Why are they giving her the time of day? Why is nobody calling her out? This is making me dislike the likeable people now!
It’s honestly really making me dislike this show. I have never wanted a character to be publicly humiliated and smacked round the face and sent off in absolute disgrace more than Lan Xinya.
I don’t know if this is a Chinese cultural thing that I’m not getting. I understand politeness is very important, but the thing is that Lan Xinya is not polite, she’s horrible, and there are characters - including Qingqing - who are frank and open and able to give punches (literally and figuratively) so I don’t think it would be out of character for the characters in the drama to punish and shun Lan Xinya as she deserves.
Honestly, I’m at the point where I’m cringing as I watch and this is so sad. I want my cute, hilarious show where Qingqing bounces around with piles of energy and makes the world better for people to come back.
I hate this.

Fanfiction for the Chinese Drama Love O2O
Word Count: 433
Xiao Nai couldn’t place it.  He couldn’t figure out why, she kept looking away.  He didn’t think it was because he was ugly.  Years and years of girls chasing after him proved to him he wasn’t, though he could do without the stares so much.  His mother made sure his confidence wasn’t to egotistical, but it was still a big confidence booster.  So why was she looking away?
The one time he went to run at the college track, just to make sure it was her that he had saw at the internet cafe, he had finally made eye contact.  Though from a distance, yet the moment their eyes met, her body went rigid and she bolted in the opposite direction.  Xiao Nai has been trying to shake off the slight disappoint ever since.
One day he found himself at the library, researching on workspaces for the office they would be needing once college was over with.  He overheard a woman complaining to another girl about someone named Meng Yiran.  He was about to get up to leave, the whining was trying his patience but the name he had been dying to say came out her mouth.  He paused, wondering what this could be about.
“It’s not my fault that she’s jealous that Bei Wei wei likes Xiao Nai!  How could I stop other people from having feelings!”  Xiao Nai caught himself almost smiling in public at the words. He felt like a school boy finding out the girl he liked, felt the same way for the first time.
“Did she say she liked him?”  The other girl who also sounded her patience was being tested asked.
“She said she would like to date someone from her department, Like Xiao Nai, how is that not a confession?!  Why use his name at all?”  The girl complained more.  His smile disappeared.  That small difference, might not mean a lot to someone like her, but it does to someone like him & her.  She used him as an example, not as the main reason.  The smile was gone.
Later, he sat in front of his computer, finally home, away from other people, distractions.  Where he felt the most comfortable.  The most himself.  He opened up the game, to find her online already.  A message popped up, from her, asking to come and help her.
He knew while helping her fight, he just had to be patient. He had to wait for the right time, the right moment, to get her full attention, He just had to be patient.  Because...
That’s how you win Bei Wei Wei.

Review Love O2O 2011 – Yêu em từ cái nhìn đầu tiên: Phim lẻ Trung Quốc hấp dẫn
Tumblr media
Bei Weiwei (Angelababy) là sinh viên năm thứ hai ngành Khoa học máy tính và, dưới hình đại diện chơi game của nữ kiếm sĩ Luwei Weiwei, được xếp hạng bảy người chơi giỏi nhất trong phần nhiều người chơi trò chơi nhập vai trực tuyến 梦游 江湖 (“Mộng du thế giới võ thuật”) lấy bối cảnh ở Trường An cổ đại. Hay hơn phiên bản điện ảnh trước của tiểu thuyết Gu - You Are My Sunshine何以 笙箫 默 (2015), trong đó Yang tình cờ có một vai phụ - và dễ dàng là bộ phim hay nhất cho đến nay của đạo diễn không đồng đều Zhao Tianyu 赵天宇 ( Deadly Delicious双 食 记, 2008; Luật hấp dẫn万有引力, 2011; Zhongkui: Snow Girl and the Dark Crystal钟 馗 伏魔 雪 妖魔 灵, 2015), Love O2Otrình bày một món ăn trong khi cẩn thận không phê bình quá mức thói quen trực tuyến của đối tượng mục tiêu. I will have to say, Love 020 is generally keeping everything fluffy and entertaining, but it has the one modern drama trope that really annoys me, which is Secondary Girl Who Seems to be Dead Set on the Lead Guy Without Any Clear Reasons.
Aka Meng Yiran.  Maybe there’s backstory that I’m missing, but I don’t get why she’s so obsessed with being Xiao Nai’s girlfriend.  Sure, he’s attractive and popular, but have they ever even had a conversation? Long term relationships are built on more than that.  At least with Yuan Lishu in Boss & Me/Shan Shan Comes to Eat there was a clear backstory on why she liked Feng Teng.
And that’s the part about the main OTP currently that I like.  There’s obviously awkwardness because they’ve only met in real life for a week, but they clearly had gotten to know each other via that RPG game for months.

even when i call you, it doesn’t reach
76 Kisses prompt 18. “I do” kiss.  meng yiran x yu banshan, post-canon compliant, related to prompts 40 and 52, this is the final chapter of this fic on ao3~ prompt 40 || prompt 52 || ao3 link || 76 Kisses Masterlist
Yiran fusses with Banshan’s shirt, straightening the collar and fixing his tie, so it laid down nicely in the middle.  He watches her with amusement and affection in equal measure.  He holds his arms at his sides so that he doesn’t interrupt her movements.  Tonight was The Night.  They were officially going to tell their friends that they’re dating.  Banshan knew that Xiao Nai and Weiwei already knew.  The quiet conversation he had with Xiao Nai in their small break room assured him of that.  And if he knew, Weiwei had to know.  There were no secrets that were kept for long with that couple.  It used to aggravate Banshan to no end that he couldn’t surprise either of them, but he’s glad that tonight there were two fewer people that he had to worry about reactions from.
He and Yiran were going to have dinner with the original Zhi Yi founders, K.O., Weiwei, Sisi, and her girlfriend Erxi.  The only reactions he had concerns about were those of Erxi and Sisi.  Well, maybe not Sisi, but Erxi had never been quiet about whom she did and didn’t like.  Especially back in uni.  And she decided a long time ago that Yiran was on her shit list.  Banshan lets out a small sigh, and Yiran steps back.
“Are you alright?”  Her eyes are filled with worry.  “If you aren’t feeling well, we can cancel and try another day.”
Forgetting his concerns for a moment, he gives her a skeptical look.  Eyebrow raised, disbelieving smirk, and everything.  “And this quick response has nothing to do with your nerves.  Right.”
Yiran levels her own unimpressed look at him for a few seconds before the façade drops, eyes darting to the floor.  Her voice is soft, nervous in a way he hadn’t heard her speak in for months.  “I just… I don’t want to make you have to choose.”
“Choose?”
“Between me and your friends if they don’t like me.”  The “if they still hate me” hung in the air, unvoiced.
“Hey,” Banshan says gently, bringing his hand to her cheek and lifting her head.  “Weiwei and Xiao Nai already know, and they don’t seem to be upset about it.”  Xiao Nai’s blessing from several weeks ago in the office kitchen reassured him that the rest of their friend group wouldn’t be upset at the news.
“But what about Hao Mei and Yonghou?”  Yiran asks.
“What about Sisi?”  He fires back, just as quick.  His thumb glides over her cheekbone, and her hand comes up to hold his wrist.  Her grip tightens, and for a single moment Banshan thinks she’s going to pull his hand from her face.  But instead, she just holds onto him and shuts her eyes.
He lets silence fall between them, knowing by now that she needs a few minutes to get her thoughts straight.  When she opens her eyes, Banshan says, “They already know you, Ran’er, and they know how much you’ve grown as a person since university.  Yonghou and you started to have lunch together to gossip about the new drama you like.  Hao Mei gave you snacks the other day when he saw how tired you were.  I know them very well.  Yonghou isn’t normally someone who disrupts his schedule.  And Hao Mei rarely likes to offer food when he has it.”
He brings his other hand to her face, cupping it like she’s made of fine porcelain.  “Ran’er, they like you for who you are.  Us telling them that we’re engaged isn’t going to change that.  If anything, Hao Mei will be excited to help plan the wedding.  You know how he gets about big events.”
Banshan smiles comfortingly, expecting Yiran’s laugh to follow his joke about their friend.  When she doesn’t, his brows furrow.  She’s staring at him like he’s spoken a different language perfectly.
“What?”
“… engaged?”  Yiran’s voice goes high at the end of the word.
Oh.  Shit.
He closes his eyes and curls his lips inward before releasing them.  “I knew I forgot something.”
“Yu Banshan, what do you mean we’re engaged?”  She pulls away from him and takes a step back.
Logically, he knows that she’s not mad at him mad at him, but it still hurts how she puts space between them.
“Ran’er,” he starts with a hesitant smile, “I, uh, meant to talk to you about this.  But there was never any time with the promotions for the new expansion pack, and work kept getting in the way.”  He takes a deep breath, and the words just tumble out of his mouth.  “The reason I know that Weiwei and Xiao Nai already know is because I asked them to go ring shopping with me at the beginning of the month.”
“It’s almost the end of May,” she says.  “You’ve been holding on to the ring for almost four weeks without saying anything?”
“I…”  He trails off, running a hand through his hair, suddenly frustrated with his inability to say what he wants to.  “I wanted it to be special.  I had a whole thing planned, but then there was that week of just nothing but rain and so we didn’t really go out except to work.  And you deserve something special,”  Banshan steps towards her and takes her hands, “because I wanted to show you how much you mean to me.  How grateful I am to be able to see you any time at work, even if it’s just a quick wave when we pass each other in the hall.  I love your laugh, and I love that you try to hide you’re laughing when I misquote something.
“You’ve been so supportive when I’m feeling down, and I am so honored that you can come to me when you are, too.  I like that you still remember I’m a Pompompurin kind of guy,” he teases, reminding her of how they re-met before she realized who he was.  “I love that you never put the bowls and plates away correctly in the drying rack, even though it’s still wrong.  I love,” Banshan falters when he sees Yiran’s eyes start to water.
He pulls her closer, twining their hands together before bringing them up on either side of themselves.  He leans in, making sure she sees how serious he is.  “I love you.”  His voice is suddenly rough, like he’s trying to keep his emotions at bay.  “I love you so much, Ran’er.  And I’d like it if we could argue about the correct placing of plates and bowls into old age.  Would you marry me?”
She blinks rapidly as if to stop the tears, but they fall anyway.  A smile blooms on her face, and Banshan feels his heart skip several beats at the sight.  “I think I’d like to,” her voice is light and lovely and he feels like he’s falling for her all over again.
“You do?”  He can’t stop himself from asking, from wanting to make sure she’s certain.
“I do,” she says, her eyes closing as she tilts her head up and meets his lips in a kiss.
Their first kiss as an engaged couple.
---
After they place their orders, the large group’s various conversations start again.  Banshan glances to his right, gently squeezing Yiran’s left hand underneath the table.  She turns her head away from Sisi and K.O. and he lifts an eyebrow.
Now?
A soft smile and a nod of her head has him standing up, letting go of her hand as he does.  He clears his throat awkwardly, and suddenly he’s the one who’s nervous about how their friends will react to the news.  Xiao Nai and Weiwei are the first of the group to notice that he’s standing, not hard given that they’re sitting on his left.  Xiao Nai does his thing, something that Banshan always wonders about, and everyone goes quiet, their eyes turning to him.
“I, uh,” he takes a sip of wine before trying again.  “I’m getting married.”
Shit, wait, that’s the wrong thing to lead with.
He hears Yiran stifle a laugh, obviously very amused with how his announcement is going.
Erxi says loudly from between K.O. and Hao Mei, “You’re getting married?  I didn’t even know you were dating!  Weiwei, how could you not tell me!”
Weiwei lets out a sigh, used to Erxi’s antics.
“Who is it,” Yonghou asks, “who’s the girl?”
Banshan flounders for a moment, still thinking about why Erxi would ask Weiwei why she didn’t tell her.
Yiran comes to his aid.  “Um, I.  I am.”  She stands up next to him, and her hand finds his automatically.  Her touch grounds him, and he feels himself settle.
There was silence at the table after Yiran’s statement.  It was long enough that Banshan started to question if his friends really would accept her.  Her grip tightens, and he’s sure she’s feeling much worse.
Sisi asks quietly, “When did you start dating?”
Yiran turns to her and admits, “About the time your brother finally gave into pumpkin spice.”
Another silence follows, and then Erxi shouts, “Damn!  I’m out a hundred!”
Yiran looks over to him for answers, but Banshan has no idea what she’s talking about.
“Who had them dating so soon?”  Hao Mei calls out, looking around the table.
Sisi lets out a defeated groan.  “I knew it, too!  I can’t believe you made me second-guess myself,” she scolds K.O.
He takes it easily, his normal stoic look replaced by a smug smile.  “That’s your problem.”
The couple watches as money exchanges hands all across the table, Yonghou holding a notebook and pencil to keep track of it all.  They sit down, minds still unable to process what’s happening.
“Congratulations,” Xiao Nai says to Banshan, his voice sounding quiet in the din of their friends arguing.  He ruffles Banshan’s hair like they were first years in university all over again.  “I told you the ring would look nice.”
Weiwei playfully glares at her husband before saying, “I said that it would.  You said that he was hopeless and left us both in the jewelry store while you went to get lunch for the three of us.”
Banshan leans back in his chair with a smile.  He looks over at his fiancée, who is showing the ring to Sisi.  He leans forward and places a kiss on her cheek before putting his arm around her shoulders and joining the conversation with the two girls and Hao Mei, who had apparently switched spots with his boyfriend to talk about event planning.
It wasn’t a surprise that the waiter ended up bringing two bottles of champagne to congratulate Yiran and him on the engagement.  Erxi was, by nature, a loud person.  There was no universe where the staff wouldn’t know.
“Are you alright,” Yiran checks in with him halfway through their meal, echoing herself from earlier that evening.
“Yeah,” he says, the warm glow of happiness still thrumming in his veins.  “Do you feel alright?”  He bounces the question back to her.
“I do,” she says, her mouth curving into a smile.  “I really, really do.”

Fic Updates~
CDrama Fics
I finished the Love O2O Meng Yiran x Yu Banshan fic, “even when i call you, it doesn't reach”. It's only 6.3k total words for all 6 chapters, but I'm finally done with it after several weeks past where I had wanted to finish it by.
I am so rewriting “bold and reckless, talk your way out of it” because I just have. No inspiration with where I had taken the story. So it's going to be redone. I think I had tried too hard to write something that is outside my wheelhouse. I'm good, I like to think, at writing angst. However, I don't think I'm good at writing angst when I'm forcing myself to write something the story isn't. If that makes sense.
Non-Cdrama Fics
I am still elbows-deep into my Criminal Minds au, but I am jumping between “collection: elle” and “The BAU Traumatized Kids Club”. Of the two, only “collection: elle” has been published. I think after three more chapters, I'll be able to get to the actual TKC story. The current chapter I'm writing now is focused on Elle and Tony meeting during free period, so she can be “Miss Student Guide”. The other three that are left, until we have her interludes in the main story, are a slice of life from college, Lola and Cindy's wedding, and when she and Tony part ways.
In the actual TKC story, I have several chapters that are currently being written. I fully expect that the chapters I have that are further down the timeline currently will change as I develop the universe more. I do like how I've developed Tyler and Sara's characters more. Carrie's is a bit more difficult, but considering it's still early doors and that she's dealing with the direct aftermath of her family's murder, I get it. I also like the handful of OCs I have that are literally just here in the story as background fluff, such as Carrie's friend in high school who thinks Reid is hot. She's a riot.
In my Derry Girls au, “you fancy you're a rebel”, I am currently one down, two to go on the three-split POV of the “first” chapter. James is done, but I'm in the middle of David's. I haven't gotten to the part where he gets attacked, but I did lay out more characterization for my OCs, who are David's bandmates in Nether Regions. I have a Pinterest board for the fic here if you want to see it!
This is part of #3, I just want to talk about my OCs a;ldsfkjsa Conor O'Carrol is the drummer and his FC is Andrew Garfield. His older brother Ciarán was the former drummer before uni that took him away from the lads. His FC is young Robert Sean Leonard. The O'Carrol's are Clare's cousins on her mom's side. Michael Connolly is the bass player, occasionally guitar when needed. His FC is young Takashi Kaneshiro. Jamie O'Neill is their frontman and de facto leader of the band. He can play guitar. His FC is Im Changkyun.
Still part of #3 & #4, but Clare is dating Mae, who is the accountant of NR.
There's probably something I'm missing, but I'm like. So tired rn a;flkjsadlkjf
