I’m gonna say because there’s so much mendel slander just because he’s bad at his job. He acts more overworked than Charlotte does, despite doing less. The man is too tired to even let his wife caress his head with her feet :( I think it’s also important to say, Mendel being exhausted by his patients represents a changing of attitude. He sees an influx of rich patients who care about nothing but themselves, it reflects the apathy at the time and gives context of the attitudes during the Reagan administration. He’s also the more likely of the two to actually have a phd (because he really is more of a psychologist than a psychiatrist) and therefore actually have earnt the Dr title. As someone who submitted him, I agree Charlotte deserves it more, but I think too many people are discounting him because he’s “bad at his job”.
