Not all attraction is sexual, even for men. Sun Wukong is attractive to men because he looks cool and pleasing to the eye. His proportions are not hideous, asymmetrical, bulbous, emaciated. He looks fit and athletic, and balances fashion with martial readiness. There's no practical reason to have a feather in his hair, but the stylish choice doesn't impede his ability to fight.

When he appears as a monkey in the flashbacks, he looks like a normal, healthy monkey with proper monkey proportions.

For most of the game he has extremely human proportions, from chin to ankles, with very little deviation. Such as the tail.

His face is very monkey-like, because he's the Monkey King, but not only do you not see his face for most of the gameplay, in cutscenes it's not as monkey-like as his flashback self. A simple monkey head on a man's body would have been off-putting. Unattractive.

Personality is also a source of attraction. The Monkey King has his faults, but he lacks the one flaw that every culture has always hated in men: Cowardice.

I don't know how major or minor this addition is to you, but I sincerely thank you for making it. It's always confused me when online spaces just assume fanboys or men in fandoms are universally accepted with no hesitation... because they're not. And I'm not just talking from personal experience.

Anyone looking to gatekeep adults out of fandom would surely not accept adult men. If they only explicitly target women, it’s because they never seriously considered that men might like the subject matter. Likely because they’re too young to understand.

They’re no different from those who seek to gatekeep men out of something that they claim to be making more accessible to women, while they also attack the women in the fandom who also hate the changes going on.

Everyone’s trying to exclude someone. Those who currently claim to exclude only on the basis of virtue seem to have some curiously “bioessentialist” ideas about virtue.

Possibly because it’s much easier to be self-righteous on the basis of your immutable characteristics than on the basis of how well you actually love or even tolerate other people.

Learning how to live with people who disagree with you is HARD and unpleasant, and God Forbid you need to actually tolerate anything.
