what the top 10 ways to spot the imposters among us?
The top 10 ways to "spot" an imposter among us are to:
tear off their leg and count the ribs (hopefully there won't be too many)
float a rock on water and check if it sinks
count the number of hairs in their comb
take a shovel and place it in an enclosure with a dragon
heat an iron rod and put it in the mouth of the impostor and count the number of days the iron rod remains unmelted
place an arrow in the mouth of the impostor; wait 21 days, take the arrow out, and count how many hairs have fallen from it; if all of the hairs have fallen then the imposter is genuine and a good arrow maker; if they have fallen by 2, the arrow is not good and the imposter is not an arrow maker; if none of the hairs have fallen then the arrow is excellent and the imposter is a bullshitter
take a load of feathers and place it in an enclosure with a bull
hang the imposter from a tree until an eagle comes and flies off with them; if the eagle returns then the imposter is a bullshitting
retrieve the impostor's feathered quill from the eagle's talons after they fly off; if the feather is covered in snot then the imposter is bullshitting
examine the hair on the imposter's body and extract all the fibers; if the average diameter is less than 1/4 of a hair's diameter, then the imposter is bullshitting
If the hair on the imposter's body is cut, then they are bullshitting
Determine if a brick placed on the head of the imposter can smash them; if the brick is broken, the imposter is an imposter; if the brick is not broke, the imposter is genuine and a good bricklayer

while i'm generally supportive of the pushback against the fundamentally reactionary anti-atheist discourse which had taken root in the left, i think the "heheh, actually your anti-atheism is the REAL cultural christianity" is kind a bad argument which undermines the broader point here. like, one of the important points the pro-atheist side is making is that there are broad parallels in the problems within many different religion, and those who dismiss criticism of religion as being "actually just a criticism of christianity" ignore that homophobia, misogyny, etc. are by no means exclusive to christianity. and the whole "anti-atheism is the real cultural christianity" talking point ends up undermining this important point because it ignores that unjustified vitriol toward non-believers, and atheists in particular, is yet another problem which is by no means exclusive to christianity.

I saw someone say they unsubscribed from cryptotheisms patreon because they didn't give an explicit condemnation of inneskeeper. I think it's good they're ignoring it, it's probably not a good idea for them to even respond to that sort of drama, but like. This site can be ridiculous still. Idk maybe there were other things but the first screenshot grox posted to mock inneskeeper was apparently an out of context screenshot of a convo about the harkness test applied to scooby-doo. grox seems like an annoying and bitter person in general.

Hey Frank! I was wondering if you had any advice for destressing. Usually I'm a pretty chilled out person but lately I've had a few obstacles come up, and even though I've overcome them now, it's hard to shake that stressed out feeling. I don't really have any relaxing hobbies, so I wanted to know - Do you have any suggestions on good methods of destressing? Methods for either physically or mentally relaxing would be good if you know of any :)
This is a hard question to answer, but if I had to give a concrete recommendation that has worked for me, I'd say "reading science fiction." And not just for fun -- if I'm stressed or bored out of my mind, then I get books I'm reading for fun, and make myself read something for science. Because it's always interesting -- I've never actually had a book of popular science or technical writing or whatever that was boring. And it always feels productive, because that's your brain doing something clever.
I think what's going on there is that stress/boredom signal something being "wrong," in a very general sense. This leads you to try to give yourself distractions that don't deal with the source of the problem, but you don't have to do that. You can treat reading science as a spare brain region where you do things while the rest of your brain is doing the stress/boredom task.

Friends..
Please don't scroll..
My daughters Nirvana and Milad lived in a tent for seven months without the minimum necessities of life..
Under these difficult circumstances, I decided to launch my campaign several months ago and we succeeded in reaching a little more than halfway in order to make my family of eight live in safety and stability..
My older brother Ramez lost his wife and three children.. He needs to start a new life away from wars and displacement..
My father and mother lost their project that they had always dreamed of in Gaza and now they have no source of income and the economic conditions are very difficult and the prices are exorbitant..
My daughter Nirvana was studying at the American International School and her school was destroyed and now she has lost two years of her school year and her future is unknown..
My little daughter Milad is 3 years old and has lived very difficult days between the tent, displacement, bombing and destruction..
My beloved and I, after 12 years of marriage, decided to buy the apartment of our lives and unfortunately it was burned down due to the war..
Under these difficult circumstances, my campaign It is very slow and I need to activate it again in order to reach the desired goal and reach $75,000...
I am counting on you, my friends on Tumblr, to help and contribute, not only to donate, but to deliver the link to my campaign to the largest possible number of people around the world..
I will also attach a link to my two accounts on Twitter, and I look forward to your support and the help of my daughters and family..

Can you donate to help the cold and injured?
I am making a post again for @ahmed-family-1.
Now, they live on the streets. Maha tells me of her uncle's injury. I ask you all to help provide the amount to cover her uncle's treatment. And of course, to pay for a new tent.
I previously posted about it here. Her family sleeps on the street, in the cold and the rain. Please help where you can.

TIME SENSITIVE: HELP AHMED AND HIS FAMILY SURVIVE THE WINTER
Winter has arrived in Gaza, where my friend Ahmed is trapped with his wife and three small children, all under 5 years old. Facing the bitter cold as well as famine, this family relies solely on donations to their GoFundMe campaign as they are unable to work due to the occupation's siege and genocide. What's more, prices of basic necessities -- food, diapers, materials -- have skyrocketed, meaning they've had to use money saved for evacuation once the border opens to live off of.
Please don't let them do this. They need about $1,000 per month to be able to survive on and must retain around $35,000 for escape.
They are behind for the month of November. In order to get them back on track, we need to raise $75 per day for the next 10 days. This is an easy feat if we spread as much as possible and give what we can! Please help sustain this wonderful family until they are able to leave Gaza to safety.
GOFUNDME LINK
€275/€1,000 FOR NOVEMBER.

🔥 Textually "political" superheroes, ala Green Arrow being a leftist and Flash being a conservative, Bastion being cancelled, etc.
Rapid-firing your specific examples- half the fun of Green Arrow is the tension between his leftism and his absurdly privileged status as a billionaire superhero. I wasn't actually aware Flash is a quote-unquote conservative- I'm assuming this came up in that godawful comic that tried to map out how the League would vote in the 08 election- but honestly this is kind of a "he's a white midwestern cop" moment, I feel like the politics associated with his job are always a little bit of an elephant in the room for the Flash Fandom. Bastion is his own post I've been meaning to make for a while, but the short version is that Bastion is a really, really funny dark comedy beat, if you choose to apply that lens.
Circling back to the Flash specifically, though- I get the sense these days that big-two superheroes are rarely characterized as meaningfully politically conservative, in the quotidian manner in which many, many real life people are. I certainly get why they shy away from that, I'm not saying that I want them to pick a couple leaguers who seem like The Type and have them start flying Gadsden flags, I'm just saying it has a certain impact on the verisimilitude of the setting when nobody on these teams has the generically shitty politics of that coworker you roll your eyes at or the Uncle you dread seeing at Thanksgiving. I think it was Memecucker that had a post a couple years ago about how you probably couldn't get away with anything analogous to that thing they once did where Hal Jordan was expressly racist as a character flaw that he had to overcome- you probably aren't gonna get an A-lister who's transphobic and has to be taught the error of their ways, for example. I'm not entirely certain how true that is- pretty true in my reading experience, but then again, there are a lot of comics, so maybe someone took a swing at that hornets nest and I just missed it and I've been talking out my ass for about 800 words.
(I did hear rumblings that they tried to do like, a coming-out-to-tepidly-accepting-parents metaphor with Franklin being a mutant during the Krakoa thing? I don't recall people talking about that beat in a positve light, which makes sense. "Have you tried not being a mutant" has always been a fraught analogy no matter which group is being referenced.)
Anyway my final takeaway is that indie cape things, by virtue of not having to keep everyone in their casts sympathetic and marketable in perpetuity, generally have way more leeway to depict superhero communities with a much wider spread of (potentially horrific) personal politics. Bastion being an example of that- if he showed up in Marvel or DC, he'd be, like, a bit character who shows up in a two-shot issue to get demolished or shown-up by Actual Superheroes (tm) but in Worm? Nope. There's no decades-long protagonist like Spider-Man or Batman through whose lens we view this setting by default. Bastion's as much a superhero as anyone else we've met, he's exactly as real, weighted exactly as much as the rest of them. And he sucks.
#thoughts#meta#superheroes#ask#ask game#I mean you get capes going “Hmm maybe I have unexamined assumptions about the efficacy of crime fighting as a concept” beats every two year#This intersects with what I'm thinking about in some way#And Ewing did some pointed respectability politics stuff in Mighty Avengers so that comes up also
