Wizard of Oz AU (I have a separate one for Wicked, don't you worry) since Billie Burke so closely resembles Marlene Dietrich, who we all know Lin was modeled after.

Dorothy: Korra Toto: Bolin (sorry Naga) TinMan: Tenzin Scarecrow: Mako Lion: Asami Glinda: Lin Beifong Wicked Witch of the West: Suyin Wicked Witch of the East: Pema Ruby slippers: Avatar state

Korra and Krew set out on an adventure to defeat the Suyin, the wicked sister of the good witch Glinda. Asami as the cowardly Lion is more metaphorical; she loses her confidence in failure. Mako is deemed brainless because of his dating record and sheer lack of empathy. Bolin is comic relief and Korra just "wants to go back to Kansas". Tenzin, a widow, gets turned into the heartless Tinman by the Wizard of Oz because he chose Pema (status- she possesses the Avatar state through the Red Ruby slippers she stole from Aang) over Lin (love). They go to the Wizard of Oz, who is later revealed to be Toph in the Swamp disguised as Melonlord, who in a fit of rage for her daughter's remorse drops a whole house on Pema, killing her. Lin doesn't know this and simply resents Suyin for her loyalty to Pema over her own sister.

Anyway, Korra and krew "melt" Suyin, who for all her wrongdoings fakes her death and runs off with Bataaar (Fiyero). Toph "turns" (by helping them realize that they're already what they want to be) the Scarecrow back to Mako who vows lead cleverly with kindess and protect Oz, the Lion back to the fearless Asami who stands up for herself and her rights. Tenzin gains his "heart" by realizing he wronged Lin and professes his love for Glinda (Lin), who forgives and takes him back (because she's a Good Witch) and Korra heads back to Kansas with Bolin keeping her entertained. She takes the ruby slippers with her as memorabilia and use the Avatar state in Kansas. Also, Lin finally understands that her mother cares for her in her own twisted ways and they reconcile while mourning the loss of Suyin (they're the only two who know she's alive and decide to keep that a secret).

Something like that. I know I leaned into Wicked a little bit there, but isn't Wicked just Wizard of Oz fanfic?

Or maybe I should just stfu haha.

In this rapidly growing and changing community, there is no shortage of gorgeous creators, talented writers, and fantastic content to consume. Because the fandom could always use more positivity and more spotlight shown on older content, I'll be highlighting and recommending fics written on this date in previous years!

Things that must be done

A touching, melancholy fic by @fuzzy-melonlord with the perfect, bittersweet balance of sadness over what David has lost and hope for his happy future.

Things I love about this fic:

The proverb, the Fruits Basket inspiration, and the headcanon mention from @the-sugar-crash make me love this fic before I even read it!

I love the detail that he'd probably have wanted Angel to call him Gabe; that feels right.

Slightly less cute note, Angel not being dressed appropriately for the weather also feels right (affectionate)
