Night Rambler
Itâs 3:43 AM, and here I am, wide awake. Sleep and I have always had a rocky relationship. Itâs like weâre exes who still occasionally cross paths but never quite see eye-to-eye. The world around me is still, yet my mind is anything but. Thoughts are racing, blending into a chaotic whirlwind of creativity, frustration, and exhaustion.
Iâve always hated sleep, if Iâm being honest. It feels like a thief that steals precious hours from my life. Hours I could use to think, to create, or to just⊠be. Right now, though? I feel drained, like the battery of an old iPhone that never quite makes it through the day without needing a recharge.
But you know what? Forget it. Iâm done trying to wrestle with sleep tonight. Itâs a losing battle, and Iâd rather not waste the energy. Instead, Iâm reaching for my earphones. Thereâs something almost magical about music in the dead of nightâhow it fills the silence, becomes the soundtrack to your insomnia, and takes you to a place where time doesnât matter.
So, Iâm zoning out. Floating away on a melody, letting the basslines carry my thoughts to another dimension. Somewhere in this sleepless void, I find a kind of peace. Maybe itâs not rest, but itâs enough for now.
Catch you on the other side of whatever this night brings. If sleep wonât come to me, at least Iâve got music and the stars.
Stay restless, TMC

72 Hours of Food and Nonstop Fun in Toronto
Spring is officially here, and that means itâs time to start planning weekend escapes to the Queen City. Warmer temperatures and longer days allow for more time spent wandering Torontoâs outdoor spaces, sipping drinks on rooftops, dining on patios, and hopping from museum to museum. This guide to spending 72 hours in Hogtown will ensure you make the most of three full days in the city.
Day One
12 p.m.
Early spring in Toronto means the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. Start your first day in the city with the Japanese tradition of cherry blossom flower watching, known as Sakura Hanami. Wander High Park in search of cherry blossoms, or simply enjoy the beauty of the lakefront, gardens, and hiking trails.
3 p.m. An enjoyable walk in the park is best followed by a cold pint of beer from a a local Toronto brewery. Walk or catch a cab just a few blocks north to the Indie Alehouse on Dundas Street West. Here, youâll find a wide selection of craft beers made in house, and mouthwatering bar bites to appease your appetite until dinner.
6 p.m. Dinner is one of the most exciting times of day in Toronto. However, the huge selection of award-winning restaurants can make choosing the perfect one seem impossible. We recommend a visit to ALO Restaurant, where you can enjoy meticulously prepared French food in an unpretentious atmosphere. You wonât be disappointed.
End your evening at the ultra-hip Gladstone hotel, a boutique hotel thatâs historic in nature (built in 1889) but contemporary in style, with 37 unique artist-designed rooms, locally-sourced food, and regular cultural events. As the cityâs oldest continually operating hotel, thereâs no better place to soak in the cityâs rich cultural history without even having to venture outside. Donât miss the hotelâs four floors of art, and the Melody Bar, which is almost always offering specials and entertainment.
Day Two
7 a.m.
Youâll want to rise and shine early on your 72-hour visit to Toronto, because thereâs more to see than can be crammed into just a few days. Start your morning at Eggspectation at 20 Albert St., where you can dine on Lobster Benny or a Breakfast Poutine with homemade breakfast gravy, a sunny side egg, cheese curds, bacon, sausage, and ham. Sit on the patio to enjoy an especially warm spring day with a fresh-pressed juice or hot cup of coffee.
Thereâs no better place to work off a hearty Toronto breakfast than at Evergreen Brick Works. The Farmersâ Market moves back outside in May, and active programs change with the seasons. Stop by Evergreenâs website to see which community-friendly activities will be taking place during your visit.
12 p.m. Toronto locals love their sports, and thereâs no better way to mingle with the locals and enjoy an unforgettable day outdoors than at a Toronto Blue Jays game. While spring training begins in March, the regular season kicks off at the start of April, and you can join crowds of screaming Blue Jay fans at Rogers Centre. Located just southwest of the CN Tower, the stadium makes sightseeing convenient before and after the big game.
The stadium is home to some of the best daily-smoked meats and poutines in the city, offering ample opportunities to snack on authentic Canadian and distinctly Hogtown eats.
3 p.m. Depending on the game time, youâll want to do some sightseeing before or after. The Casa Loma castle and its stunning estate gardens is a must-visit Toronto attraction thatâs ideal for travelers of all ages and interests. The castleâs Summer Series of events will feature Symphony in the Gardens on Tuesday evenings and the Soul in the City jazz showcase on Mondays. Casa Loma offers countless opportunities to discover Torontoâs unique history and culture while enjoying the outdoors.
And if youâre traveling with a crew of die-hard hockey fans, the world-famous Hockey Hall of Fame is one of the best places to discover Canadaâs favourite pastime in north America. The Hall of Fame is an interactive entertainment destination, and you wonât want to miss the recently launched Centennial Exhibit, commemorating 100 years of NHL hockey with some of the sportâs most sought-after artifacts (like Gordie Howeâs 700th goal puck and Bobby Orrâs infamous knee brace). Thereâs something for everyone at the Hockey Hall of Fame.
6 p.m. Itâs decision time again, and itâs nearly impossible to choose just three dinner restaurants for a 72-hour stay in the city. However, no visit to Toronto is complete without tasting some award-winning Chinese food in Chinatown. Head to the Dumpling House Restaurant on Spadina Avenue a cozy, authentic Chinese atmosphere with pan fried or steam dumplings that youâll dream about long after youâve left the city.
Head east of Spadina Avenue along Dundas, and youâll find the famed Art Gallery of Ontario. Open until 9 p.m., on Wednesdays and Fridays, this gallery is the ideal place to wander after a Chinatown meal. The museum will be running a must-see Georgia OâKeeffe exhibition from April 22 to July 30, this year.
Those who simply donât want the day to end should head down to the lakeshore for live jazz, swing, and blues music five nights a week at the Reservoir Lounge. Opt for a stay at the InterContinental Toronto Centre Hotel for a luxuriously modern room in the heart of the cityâs thriving Entertainment District.
Day Three
7 a.m.
A long night out warrants a hearty Toronto breakfast on your third morning in Hogtown. And the Senator Restaurant on Victoria Street is the perfect place to fill your belly with comfort food. Choose from everything from loaded scrambles and open-faced omelettes to salmon eggs benedict or huevos rancheros. Youâll never go hungry on your weekend escape to Toronto.
12 p.m. Continue the excitement of your 7w-hour visit to Toronto at one of the cityâs favourite family-friendly attractions, the Ripleyâs Aquarium of Canada. From morning yoga in front of an exotic aquarium to the new up-close-and-personal Stingray Experience, Ripley offers some of the worldâs most exciting aquarium experiences, and theyâre right here in Hogtown.
Or, for those seeking the cityâs more cultural side, the Textile Museum of Canada is one of the best places in the country to admire the works of local, national, and international contemporary artists. It presents rotating exhibitions, changed throughout the year. Exhibitions draw from TMCâs collection of 13,000 objects, spanning roughly 200 world regions and 2,000 years of history, and present the work of local, national and international contemporary artists. The TMC also hosts touring exhibitions and guest curators through various partnerships and collaborations.
3 p.m.
Just across the street from the Ripleyâs Aquarium of Canada is Roundhouse Park and iconic Steam Whistle Brewing. Sip a world-famous Steam Whistle pilsner take a brewery tour (operating seven days a week), or if you time your visit right, catch one of the breweryâs many special events, including concerts, festivals, yoga, and more.
6 p.m.
Torontoâs theatre scene is highly underrated, and catching a live performance at one of the cityâs many theatres will surely make your trip feel complete. The Princess of Wales Theatre will be presenting Strictly Ballroom The Musical through June, and the Elgin Theatre is now showing Sousatzka, an emotional, humorous, and hopeful take on the novel Madame Sousatzka by Bernice Rubens.
Finish your final night in Toronto with a stay at The Ivy at Verity luxury boutique hotel. The Ivy at Verity is a part of Verity, a members-only womenâs club, but the hotel is open to both men and women. The Club is housed in an elegantly-restored historic chocolate factory and includes a fitness centre, ozonated pool, the top-rated restaurant GEORGE, and sweetgrass spa, which has been named one of the top 25 spas in Canada. Thereâs no better place to pamper yourself before heading home.
Day Four
7 a.m.
Thereâs still time to squeeze in some sightseeing on your final day in the city. Stop by the George Street Diner for some of the cityâs most esteemed diner fare in an authentic old-fashioned atmosphere.
Fueled with coffee and eggs, youâre ready for a morning at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM). The museum recently opened their highly anticipated Out of the Depths: The Blue Whale Story exhibition. As the cornerstone of ROMâs Canada 150 programing, the exhibit is turning a tragic event into a heartwarming and uniquely Canadian story. Visitors also wonât want to miss the Gallery of Modern Design, T.Rex Alive!, The Franklin Exploration and the long list of other must-see exhibits on display right now.
Seventy-two hours is never enough time to spend in Toronto, but Hogtown, and itâs unending list of must-visit shops, eateries, hotels, and attractions, is always here waiting for your next weekend escape.

(Lenox, MA) â In celebration of the Companyâs 40th Season, Shakespeare & Company presents a special August event series, Storytellers and Songwriters. Each event will explore various characters through solo performances by veteran Company artists, many including live music and original compositions from acclaimed musicians and songwriters, including Michi Wiancko, Kris Delmhorst, and the BSO Tanglewood Music Composer Fellows. This series spans the weekends of August 11th, 18th, and 25th. All pieces will be performed in the Tina Packer Playhouse at 8:30pm.
âAt Shakespeare & Company we celebrate language, connections, and community,â said Artistic Director Allyn Burrows. âIn this unique series of performances, we celebrate the human spirit through music and the spoken word. Storytellers & Songwriters highlights indelible stories and sublime music interwoven into delightful one-night only events.â
Company artists performing solo pieces include: Elizabeth Aspenlieder, Allyn Burrows, Nehassaiu deGannes, Jonathan Epstein, Nigel Gore, John Hadden, Tina Packer, and Tod Randolph. These stories will be interlaced with musicians and songwriters who have a deep appreciation of poetry reminiscent of Shakespeare. Special musical guests include Kris Delmhorst, Michi Wiancko, Bobby Sweet, Vikki True, and the BSO Tanglewood Music Center Fellows. All events are stage managed by long-time Company member Hope Rose Kelly.
The Storytellers & Songwriters series will be performed in the Tina Packer Playhouse. Tickets are available online at shakespeare.org, or by calling Shakespeare & Companyâs box office at (413) 637-3353. Tickets range from $20 â $50. The Tina Packer Playhouse is air conditioned and wheelchair accessible. Shakespeare & Company is located at 70 Kemble Street in Lenox, Massachusetts.
AT A GLANCE
Via Dolorosa by David Hare August 11 at 8:30pm Featuring: Jonathan Epstein
Via Dolorosa is the story of British playwright David Hareâs 1997 visit to Israel and Gaza, told by a single actor in a virtuosic 90 minute dramatic whirlwind of people, places, and events. As Hare, Jonathan Epstein turns himself into more than 30 different characters, each an impassioned participant in the Arab-Israeli struggle, as the play ranges through London, Tel Aviv, the Settlements, Gaza, and Jerusalem itself, in search of some kind of hope in a world where it seems that everyone can say, and with justice: âThis land is ours.â This performance will be followed by a talkback with Jonathan Epstein.
T.S. Eliot and His Love of Shakespeare by Joan Ackermann August 12 at 8:30pm Featuring: Allyn Burrows with musical guest Michi Wiancko
Allyn Burrows plays the poet, playwright, literary contrarian, and Nobel Prize winner T.S. Eliot in an exploration of the great writerâs fascination with language and Shakespeare. The words of the two great poets will be intertwined with the music of celebrated violinist Michi Wiancko. Wiancko is an internationally-acclaimed and multi-dimensional violinist, composer, and collaborator, described by Gramophone as an âalluring soloist with heightened expressive and violinistic gifts.â
Door of No Return by Nehassaiu deGannes August 18 at 8:30pm Featuring: Nehassaiu deGannes
Partly autobiographical, but drawing primarily on historical research and present-day interviews, Door of No Return courageously excavates the rich, complex but often silenced multicultural legacies of New England. Nehassaiu deGannes is a trickster/shaman figure voicing experiences of immigration, displacement, enslavement, and resistance from a brilliant multiplicity of perspectives. Drawing on her Caribbean heritage and Canadian upbringing, her visits to West Africa, and her arrival in Rhode Island, Nehassaiu criss-crosses time and space to bring us stories from the 18th century and the Triangle Trade, as well as unexpected contemporary narratives.
In Light of Jane by Joan Ackermann August 19 at 8:30 pm Featuring: Tod Randolph with musical guest Kris Delmhorst
A lighting designer visits an empty theatre space two years after a devastating loss, and as she sorts through her memories, the way forward is illuminated in unexpected ways. This funny and moving piece features long-time Shakespeare & Company actor Tod Randolph. Blended into the evening is the music of American Singer/Songwriter Kris Delmhorst, who also performs an intimate concert. Delmhorst grew up in Brooklyn, NY but her musical home is in Boston, MA where she cut her teeth on open mics, bar gigs, and subway busking before embarking on her life as an internationally touring songwriter. The Boston Globe called Delmhorst âbold and brilliant.â
Bad Dates by Theresa Rebeck August 20 at 8:30pm Featuring: Elizabeth Aspenlieder with musical guest Vikki True and original recorded compositions by the BSO Tanglewood Music Composer Fellows
A hilarious and heartbreaking story, Bad Dates follows a single motherâs idiosyncratic journey of self-discovery which involves the Romanian mob, a Buddhist rainstorm, a teenage daughter, over 600 pairs of shoes, and a few very bad dates. Highlights of the evening will include interwoven music provided by the BSOâs Tanglewood Music Composer Fellows, directed by Michael Gandolfi (Composition Head of the TMC), and local singer Vikki True, who will join the production with an array of soul stirring melodies that will support the production. True will then take center stage for a short set of some of her classic R&B/Jazz standards.
Women of Will by Tina Packer August 25 at 8:30pm Featuring: Tina Packer with Nigel Gore
After three years of traveling the world and a four month Off-Broadway run, Women of Willcomes home. By examining passion and intrigue through womenâs eyes, we see how Shakespeare himself developed as a human being. Founding Artistic Director Tina Packer is joined by Company veteran actor Nigel Gore
Travels with the Masked Man by John Hadden August 26 at 8:30pm Featuring: John Hadden with musical guest Bobby Sweet
Founding Company member John Hadden performs a riveting 50-minute, one-man show based on his book Conversations with a Masked Man: My Father, the CIA, and Me. Bobby Sweet infuses the show with his unique sound. Join them for this journey of deception, âthe gameâ (espionage), and rough filial love. The evening finishes with an intimate concert by local favorite singer/songwriter Bobby Sweet.
SCHEDULE: August: 11 â 8:30 PM â Via Dolorosa 12 â 8:30 PM â T.S. Eliot and His Love of Shakespeare 18 â 8:30 PM â Door of No Return 19 â 8:30 PM â In Light of Jane 20 â 8:30 PM â Bad Dates 25 â 8:30 PM â Women of Will 26 â 8:30 PM â Travels with the Masked Man
