I summoned Naga, and I don't think she's as bad as I once thought myself. I used to despise her and thought she was a real hypocrite. She's an ethereal being who loves humanity so much her judgement is clouded and badly. She doesn't get them but she wants to protect them because they're so interesting to her so she grants them her power. She guides the world and if she sees a threat no matter what she'll get rid of it. She is honestly very very flawed and I appreciate that

I find it really interesting how people take her quotes so differently, this delights me to no end

Like, @norbah and I were talking earlier and the one quote that personally sent alarm bells up for me (”The world needs a guiding hand.  My role is to steady that hand.”) didn’t strike them as strange, while the one that they found disconcerting (”I may not be human, but…the machinations of the children of men still draw my interest.”) struck me as more run-of-the-mill for her.  

The thing about Naga that has always fascinated me is that she really is extremely flawed.  The image that’s painted of her is this glorious, compassionate goddess, but actually looking at her actions throughout history paint an entirely different picture.  Despite her fascination (bordering on obsession) with humanity, she has always been very disconnected from them, to the point where seventeen generations passed before she noticed that Loptyr had founded an empire and was brutalizing the population.  But along with that disconnect, she’s also put a troubling emphasis on humans over everything else – up to and including other dragons and even her own daughter.  She oversaw the extermination of at least one other dragon tribe, ignored the fact that the divine dragons who sealed their powers were being oppressed by humanity and are now nearly extinct themselves, and – I really can’t stress this enough I’m sorry – she put her own daughter in a magically induced coma on the chance that Tiki might degenerate.  She hadn’t shown any signs or symptoms, she was literally an infant at the time, and Naga effectively robbed her of her life.  

For all that she’s made it her duty to help and protect mankind, though, she has never really interacted with them.  She’s always been above and apart from them (in a very literal sense, since she ascended from the physical world so long ago).  It’s entirely possible that she just hasn’t realized the kind of damage she caused that way, because she’s never been close enough to see the effects, and being in Askr has allowed her to connect in ways she never had before (both for good and ill).  But it’s also clear that she can’t quite divorce herself from her original mindset – personally, I can’t help but read something rather ominous in that remark about her “steadying the hand” that guides the world, because she’s influencing things on what she personally believes is the proper course (and she’s willing to resort to violence for that purpose).  

Now that she’s closer to the humans she’s long been fascinated with, it’s entirely possible that she might change her opinion on what constitutes “evil” and therefore lighten up on some things (or some Heroes, as the case may be).  There’s equally a chance, though, that she might continue to believe that she knows best – and even if she wouldn’t personally attack anyone or try forcing them to comply (after a while, I’m pretty sure there would need to be a not-insignificant adjustment period), it’s debatable whether she could completely believe that they’re being honest and not simply acting to garner trust, or are otherwise kept in check by some “contract” between them and the Summoner.
