Bridal Lehenga Blouse Design: A Timeless Tale of Elegance and Innovation
The bridal lehenga is a cherished ensemble that symbolizes not only tradition but also the culmination of countless hours of artistry and craftsmanship. While the lehenga skirt often garners much of the attention, the blouse known as the choli plays an equally crucial role in completing the bridal look. The design of the bridal lehenga blouse is a fascinating interplay of cultural heritage, contemporary trends, and personal expression, making it a topic of endless fascination and evolution.
The Classic Appeal
Traditional bridal blouses often feature intricate embroidery, rich fabrics, and timeless cuts. Silk, brocade, and velvet are popular fabric choices, each bringing its own luxurious texture and sheen. The embroidery is usually elaborate, with motifs inspired by nature, mythology, or Mughal art. Zari work, zardozi, and gota patti are some of the favored techniques that add a touch of opulence to the blouse. The classic round neck and half-sleeve designs continue to be a staple, offering a perfect canvas for showcasing intricate handwork.
Modern Innovations
As fashion evolves, so do bridal lehenga blouse designs. Modern brides are increasingly experimenting with cuts, styles, and fabrics to create a unique and personalized look. Off-shoulder, halter neck, and backless designs are gaining popularity, adding a contemporary twist to the traditional attire. Fabrics like net, georgette, and chiffon are being used to create sheer, ethereal blouses that exude a romantic aura. Additionally, the use of unconventional colors like pastels, metallics, and even black is on the rise, breaking away from the traditional red and gold palette.
Fusion Styles
The fusion of Western and Indian aesthetics is another exciting trend in bridal lehenga blouse design. Corset-style blouses, inspired by Victorian fashion, offer a structured and regal appearance. Peplum blouses, which flare out at the waist, add a modern flair and can be especially flattering for brides who want to accentuate their waistline. Capes and jackets, often adorned with intricate embroidery or beadwork, are being incorporated into bridal ensembles, adding a layer of sophistication and drama.
Customization and Personalization
In recent years, customization has become a significant aspect of bridal fashion. Brides are increasingly involved in the design process, often collaborating with designers to create a blouse that tells their unique story. Whether it's incorporating a special motif that has personal significance or choosing a particular fabric that resonates with the bride's style, the possibilities are endless. This trend towards personalization allows brides to wear something that is not only beautiful but also deeply meaningful.
The Role of Accessories
Accessories play a pivotal role in complementing the bridal lehenga blouse. Statement necklaces, maang tikas, and bridal dupattas are carefully selected to enhance the overall look. The blouse design often dictates the choice of jewelry; for instance, a high-neck blouse might be paired with a choker, while a deep neckline allows for more elaborate necklaces. The dupatta, whether draped over the head or around the shoulders, can also add an additional layer of elegance and tradition.
The Timelessness of Bridal Blouse Designs
Despite the ever-changing fashion landscape, certain elements of bridal lehenga blouse designs remain timeless. The emphasis on craftsmanship, the celebration of cultural motifs, and the quest for elegance and beauty are constants that transcend trends. Whether opting for a classic or contemporary design, the bridal blouse is more than just a piece of clothing; it is a work of art that embodies tradition, innovation, and the bride's individuality.
Conclusion
The bridal lehenga blouse is a canvas that allows for endless creativity and expression. From traditional designs rich in heritage to modern interpretations that push the boundaries of fashion, this essential piece of bridal attire continues to evolve, reflecting the diverse and dynamic nature of bridal fashion. As brides continue to seek blouses that resonate with their personal style, the future of bridal lehenga blouse design promises to be as exciting and diverse as ever.

Nahida redesign! Breakdown below
So I adore Nahida as character, but especially as a southasian I always wished she would have more cultural motifs in her design. I really wanted to see something that could be realistically in the game, that adds to the original, while retaining the few great details hyv put in her design so I thought why not do it myself!
I based her dress on the lehenga instead of having the basic dress, as it's closest to her silhouette (missed opportunity!!!!!!). Its traditional wear, yet not as ancient as the saree which i thought fits nahidas youthfulness. Tbh I just split the dress in 2 lol, as i love her patterns
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These prominently feature the bodhi leaf, which in buddhism symbolizes enlightenment and wisdom. So it was important for me to not alter those elements, and I changed almost nothing else on the dress.
Tumblr media
What I did change are the sleeve things (?) To an actual dupatta, which is a type of long scarf. Put even more bodhi symbols there. Sorry for bad pic
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Additionally I added a maang tikka (head jewelry) and earrings. I kept her bangle and the ghanta bell (used in hindu rituals) on the back as these are the other cultural elements she has.
The Mehndi design is a Lotus to reference one of her inspirations: Anahita, persian goddess of wisdom and flowing waters and where Nahida's name comes from. She is also inspired by hindu goddesses like Saraswati (also goddess of wisdom and more), Aranyani (forest goddess) , a forest fairy from the buddhist Kusanali Jataka tale, and likely even more.
And for the last detail: I gave her anklets, in reference to Aranyani/Rukkhadevata.
Tumblr media
One of Rukkhadevatas title was Queen Aranyani, and the actual real goddess is said to have worn anklets with bells that were heard in the forest. Tho I removed the bells, since Rukkhadevata is dead and forgotten now, and so you can't hear her anymore. :')
Bc of it's purpose it's not the flashiest design, but I had so much fun researching, learning so many new things and trying to incorporate them back to Nahidas design! If someone educated has more to add or something I can correct I'd love to hear :)

What is the history of mehndi patterns?
Tumblr media
The history of mehndi patterns is rich and diverse, spanning across different cultures, regions, and time periods. Mehndi, also known as henna, has been used for centuries for various cultural, social, and personal purposes. Here's an overview of the historical evolution of mehndi patterns:
Ancient Origins
The use of mehndi can be traced back to ancient civilizations. It is believed to have originated in the regions of North Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia. Archaeological evidence suggests that henna was used for cosmetic and artistic purposes in ancient Egypt, where it was applied to nails, hair, and skin.
Cultural Significance
Over time, mehndi became an integral part of various cultural practices and rituals. In South Asia, mehndi is deeply embedded in weddings and celebrations. Bridal mehndi designs, in particular, hold great significance as they symbolize love, joy, and good fortune. Mehndi ceremonies are an essential pre-wedding tradition in many cultures, where intricate patterns are applied to the bride's hands and feet.
Artistic Expression
Mehndi patterns evolved beyond just traditional designs into a form of artistic expression. Skilled artists started experimenting with different motifs, styles, and techniques, leading to the creation of diverse and intricate designs. Different regions developed their own unique mehndi styles, reflecting local aesthetics, symbols, and traditions.
Geographical Variation
As mehndi spread across different regions through trade routes and cultural exchanges, it adapted to the local customs and preferences. This gave rise to a wide array of mehndi design styles, such as Indian, Arabic, Moroccan, Pakistani, and more. Each style carries its own characteristics and symbolism.
Symbolism and Meaning
Mehndi patterns often carry deep symbolic meanings. For example, in Indian culture, peacock motifs symbolize beauty and love, while the lotus signifies purity and spirituality. Arabic mehndi designs often feature flowers and vines, reflecting the beauty of nature. Many cultures also incorporate auspicious symbols, intricate details, and personal elements into their designs.
Modern Trends
In recent years, mehndi patterns have continued to evolve with changing fashion trends and global influences. Modern designs might incorporate contemporary elements, negative space, and experimental motifs, catering to a diverse range of preferences.
Global Reach
With the advent of social media and globalization, mehndi has gained international popularity. People from various cultural backgrounds now appreciate and incorporate mehndi designs into their celebrations and personal adornment.

So I finished my sketch for the initial design for the mehndi gloves. Or as I’m keep calling them, mehndi mitts.
This design is subject to change incase it turns out that I can’t actually make it work. Or if I do it and it just looks terrible.
But as of now this is the design for the gloves. I probably could’ve made it clearer and rub out all the mistakes. But I just couldn’t be bothered.
Because man this took a while and I just wanted to share it.
Anyway here it is.
Tumblr media
Next step will be finding the glove pattern I’m gonna use and putting this design in a colour work chart.
So that I can knit a lil test swatch to see what it looks like, if it fits with the pattern. And if I’m gonna do this in colour work or in duplicate stitch.
I do hope it works though because I absolutely love the look of this.

henna hearts
— pavitr prabhakar x gn!reader
Tumblr media
summary: You never realised how long mehndi would take to do. Pavitr's got all the time in the world for you, though.
content/warnings: fluff, slight hurt/comfort, ambiguous relationship, briefly edited, henna/mehndi maybe used interchangeably
word count: 1.1k
a/n: he's not Real guys he's not (mitski starts playing)
“You're tickling me…!”
“Just how am I tickling you?”
Though you held your laugh behind pursed lips, a snort escaped from the boy in front of you — the boy who was so desperately trying to finish your mehndi before it got too dark for you to go home.
“Pavi, seriously, we're not gonna finish if you keep doing that.” You tried to frown, but your face was stuck in the ache of a grin. He probably felt the same.
“I'm just trying to keep your arm straight!”
“It is straight!”
“It won't be when I have to do the other side.” You gave him a dubious look, and he seemed to mirror it.
“You're doing my whole arm?”
“I wanted to, but…”
“But what?”
Pavitr's gave you one of those unreadable smiles which you could never tell were teasing or not, looking at you through the dark tousled curls that shrouded his face. Without much thought, you reached out carefully, brushing away his hair with the very tips of your fingers.
His irises caught the colour of the decorative lights around his room, and the way his expression softened made it seem like he was looking at you with all the tenderness in the world. It was hard to look away, and you felt your heart squeeze with embarrassment as a quiet laugh escaped his lips.
“But what…?” you asked again, hoping your voice didn’t sound weird.
“You’ll probably have to stay if I do.”
“Ah…” You nodded, as if it’d hide your disappointment. “Well, you know I can't, so…”
“I know.” He gently lifted your hand again to straighten it out, the tip of the tube grazing your skin with a coolness as faint as an exhale. As he worked on a flower in the middle of your forearm, you noticed his own hands were stained. Pavitr didn't seem to mind, or mention it at all, so you decided to let him focus.
There was a silence between you two, all except for the muffled clatter of pots and pans in the kitchen, where his aunt was cooking. Well, you called her auntie too; in fact, you'd never gotten so close to anyone as you did Pavitr and Maya Auntie. A part of you hoped it went both ways.
“How'd you learn to do this anyway?” Your question made him lift his head slightly. “Auntie said you’re even better than her at it.”
A quiet chuckle left him, and he finished the flower off with a small circle in the centre. “My cousins at home taught me. They always begged to practice on me anyway.”
“Really?” The image amused you: a bunch of young girls drawing all over a younger and scrawnier Pavitr’s arms ruthlessly with mehndi while he begrudgingly sat still.
“Yep, and then I started doing it for them before Diwali, birthdays… Nothing big, just simple designs.”
You looked down at your arms, decorated beautifully with intricate designs that just somehow connected together. Whenever you thought he was done, he added more flowers and swirls and patterns, and suddenly it felt like the design would be incomplete without it. He was doing it from the top of his head too; if only you could understand how. All you had to do was sit and wait, and take care not to smudge it. Maya Auntie even suggested that you should avoid doing the dishes at home, so the colour would stay longer. Fat chance, you thought, watching how quickly your arm was being embellished.
“And you call this simple?” you muttered, almost shaking your head.
“Anything’s simple when it's for you, right…?”
Suddenly, he winced, but not at you. Pavitr’s hand hesitantly moved away from the part he was just working on, and there was just the tiniest smudge running across one of the petals. Your lips pressed together out of reflex, but you quickly regretted it when you saw the flash of worry across Pavitr’s face. The brightness seemed to leave his eyes; your reaction was the real mistake.
“Wait, I'll fix it,” he said quickly, reaching to wipe it away with the corner of his shirt.
“Hey, no no no.” You moved your hand away, furrowing your brows at him. “Why ruin your shirt?”
“It would wash out,” he replied sheepishly.
“Not for a while.” Shaking your head, you tried to keep yourself calm. Why’d you have to do that? “It's okay, it's just a little smear.”
Pavitr frowned. It was only slightly, but you felt your stomach twist in guilt. All you wanted nothing more than to touch his cheek, reassure him; not without messing up his face, you couldn't. He really wanted to get it perfect.
“You could just get a tissue from the kitchen, or something,” you suggested.
“It’ll dry by then.”
“No it won't, Pavi.”
You tilted your head down at him, trying to get him to meet your eyes. His fingers tightened around your arm, but he wouldn’t look at you.
“I’ll figure it out, okay? It'll still look pretty…”
“Hey, it's fine, it does look pretty—” The words caught in your throat as he reached up with his free hand, his fingertips brushing your face.
“…What is it?” you managed to mumble out, surprised by his sudden touch. His palm moved to cup your face, hand warm. When he opened his mouth, his voice was just warm.
“Could you stay? Just a little longer — it'll be worth it, I promise.”
There were a lot of things you wanted to say to Pavitr, as he waited for your response, but “no” wasn't one of them.
“Okay.” You tried smiling, feeling his palm against the soft of your cheek. “I'll trust you. Just don't tickle me."
There was a slight light-heartedness to your words, and he mirrored your smile. His was always slightly boyish and a little crooked, but somehow managed to hold the entire world in it.
“Thank you, chellam,” he murmured, touch lingering for just a moment before he dropped his hand. You’d never heard him call you that before.
“…What did you just say?”
“Beta!”
Auntie's voice rang out from the kitchen before he could answer, and you caught the playful glint return to his eyes as he turned to shout back.
“I'm almost done!” You raised an eyebrow at him as he turned to look at you again. “Huh?”
“Chellam?” you repeated, noticing the way his eyes, and his smile, widened when you said it.
“En chellam,” he replied, giving your cheek a soft pinch. You couldn’t hold back your snicker this time.
With your heartbeat in your ears, and flirting now in the equation, you knew Pavitr was far from “almost done” with your menhdi. He still had the rest of your arm to do, and a little mistake to fix, but it was okay, you thought. He’d figure it out — for you.

inspired from the ask: "Coryo feeding desi!reader with his hands while her mehendi dries"
—desi! brat(-ish)! reader x soft(-ish)! friends! Coryo Snow 💌—
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Coryo,” you whine, your lips forming a small pout as you look at the blonde man. Coryo rolled his eyes at you when you didn't notice it. He didn't understand the point of festivals he was asked to join though he did appreciate the cultural aspect of it all.
Your house was getting decorated with flowers and whatnot, each servant and family member busy perfecting everything for the holud ceremony being held in your house.
Coryo sighed when you whine his name again in the same bratty tone (the one he wished to fuck out of you). “I will do no such thing,” Coryo said, “It's improper, you're not a child.”
The pout doesn't leave your lips and it takes every ounce of his self-control not to lean forward and kiss you. “Please!” You requested, “Come on, yaar! I haven't eaten anything since morning!” “And that's not on me,” Coriolanus replied simply.
You huff like the spoiled brat you are. “Fine!” You said, standing up from your seat, “I'll ask Sejanus!” “He will understand the struggle, the henna will take time to dry.” You add, now close to walking past him and outside the bedroom to find Sej.
“Sit down,” Snow said, his eyes flashing in anger but his eyes cold. Despite a hint of alarm flashes in your mind, you knew he gave in to you. Coriolanus didn't like being challenged, the fact you were going to Sejanus. You knew he wouldn't like that, even if you aren't his girlfriend but just a friend (for now) he would be jealous nonetheless.
You grin in triumph and get back to your seat. In front of you was a small table and a tray filled with various plates of food. Specifically, a dessert that you want to try right now but are unable to due to the wet henna tattoos on your hands. His eyes flicker to the patterns you had drawn on your skin, various patterns seemingly meaningless yet so damn pretty. He knows that the result will turn out great and will only make you much prettier, too pretty for his sanity to survive.
He sits down beside you, picking up a bowl with what looks like carrots but he never saw anything like it before. Seeing his confusion, you explained, leaning towards sarcasm near the end, “It's Gajoer Halua, a carrot-based sweet dessert. Now please bless me and feed me, Coryo.”
He chuckles, feeling amused by your behavior, unable to help himself as he replies “Why should I? You're not deserving of blessings. You're a brat.” A brat he will take soon enough, no doubt on that. You rolled your eyes, “Pretty please, or else I'll smear all of this,” you flicked your eyes at your mehndi-covered palms (henna), “all over your damn face.”
If it was someone else, he would have thought it was teasing or bluffing but you? Yeah, you definitely would do it if he continued to drag this out any longer. He takes a spoonful of the vibrant orange dessert, he has the urge to coo you to open your mouth like one would to a child. But he was above that silliness so he said nothing, his eyes cool despite the fact his heart seemed to be going haywire when you leaned in to eat. You wink at him as you taste the halwa on your tongue, the sweetness dancing in your mouth.
“That's a good boy,” you grin, “Thank you, Coryo.”
‘Fuck. Fuck. Fuck,’ Coryo thinks, as a blush emerges on his cheeks from the praise. He shouldn't like the way you said it, a tad bit degrading but a compliment nonetheless. He shouldn't like that he wants to hear more thank yous (and 'good boys' but he will never admit that).
Coriolanus Snow thought of you as a friend and dreamed of you as a girlfriend but in reality, you'll be the end of him.

“What I have heard is that it’ll be more truthful in the relationship between Xena and Gabrielle in that it will show who they are and their love for each other in a new way. All I can hope for is that it keeps the layers to the characters as rich as they were with the original show in that it’s not just that they’re partners, it’s that they are everything to each other.” — Renee O’Connor about how she hoped the thankfully now scrapped Xena reboot went in how the relationship between Xena and Gabrielle would be written and portrayed.
I love so much the way the roles reversed in that as Xena becomes softer, Gabrielle becomes harder because we know it only happens in this way because of how ride or die they are with and for each other. That the depth. intensity and authenticity of the connection, relationship and friendship that they had was so immense that it influenced their personalities and changed each other emotionally and they became each other in the end as my character study thesis goes into great detail with explaining because they are one soul in two bodies for eternity. Which isn’t merely just soulmates but also twin flames in that they constantly navigate this match and mirror dynamic throughout all of their soul’s life experiences almost as if there’s an eternal dance between them where they keep shifting from the lead partner to the follower partner and there is always that equilibrium where they are just perfectly balanced as one nature and you just don’t get that in just any romantic ship. You might get a soulmate connection but you won’t get the characters irrevocably changing and evolving as individual people and as a couple because of that connection because love stories just aren’t that EPIC in TV art/entertainment. They’ll never be as profound as the one between Xena and Gabrielle where they truly were - as Renee said - everything to each other.
I think about how in the episode ‘Little Problems’ Aphrodite temporarily puts Xena’s soul essence into the little girl Daphne so that she would have a second chance at life. I’m just thinking about how that was essentially 3 individual soul essence’s in just one little girl’s physical body. That of Xena, Eve and Daphne.
As insane as the idea of that sounds in my INTP head, the plausibility of it in the Xenaverse isn’t because they do this more than once across both shows. Twice in Xena. The first time Ares is responsible (Succession) and the second time Aphrodite is responsible. And maybe the idea does require some divine intervention.
So the question is - based on my interpretation and conclusion of my thesis - who does it the third time?Who is responsible for returning them to their roots as a nondual entity? As the fundamental Yin and Yang? Because if an idea like this is ever-present in the Xenaverse as a thematic narrative in soul hopping, body swapping, reincarnation, and an exploration of AU, then what’s stopping that from being an ending?
It might be an insane idea in any other fantasy TV show - but in Xena, it’s a pretty common storyline. Temporarily, sure, but very possible as an endgame. The more I watch the show and the more I delve into the nuances and intricacies of its characters and themes and narratives, I am reminded over and over again just how much this idea makes sense because they do effectively set it up to work out that way in that Xena and Gabrielle disappear into each other.
And it’s like - okay, so they’re now just going to be one human being. One person with two legs and one head. Now what? Where does their story go on from there? Well, it can go anywhere forever. It’s like what Steven L. Sears said: They’re between the lines of the Mehndi. The body or physical manifestation of it is temporary, but what’s between those beautiful patterns is eternal. The spaces in-between which you must have to even be able to witness such beauty in the Mehndi design.
So they’ll separate in another lifetime, another Universe, another body, but then they’ll join back together and it will always be a continuous journey for Xena and Gabrielle - or whatever their names are in and at that moment - because they are the human representation of yin-yang and what you can learn through them as both individual characters and a character dynamic is love - be it whichever way you wish to interpret the nature of that love. The point is that it’s an EPIC love story first and foremost and that everything else about the show becomes far more valuable when you view it as that from episode one. That way even the early episodes are significant in terms of the trajectory of their romantic arcing, even when - especially when - they are paired with others because it is a romance what they have. It’s just that it’s not just a romance. There’s so much more to it.
And for me - that’s exactly what makes it even more of one. It’s the fact that it can’t just be pinned down as romantic love but all other different types of love too. It is that - absolutely. But it’s far more than that to the point where there really isn’t a necessity for it to arc romantically because the journey is why you want it to. And the journey is immense. Nothing could eclipse it. There’s not a single WLW love story out there in the TV art/entertainment hemisphere that can come close to what Xena and Gabrielle have. They are the ultimate. It’s bitter suite to think that the first ever WLW love story we had in a TV show was also the greatest one because they really couldn’t confirm it textually. But it’s precisely because they couldn’t why it’s so great because it forced them to have to find another way of representing a romantic relationship without any sex. And if all you care about seeing is the sex, well then this isn’t a relationship I would recommend to you because, besides from a few kisses, there isn’t any. It’s an emotional romantic relationship and it’s beautiful and well-worth watching for me - who is so tired of overtly sexual ships that have little to nothing else to them and it may be a double-edged sword, but if you asked me, they need to go back to the censorship because it’s too insulting for me to only see that between WLW/queer ships in TV art/entertainment. I’ve said this before but I’ll say it again. I have no issue with sexual intimacy in general. But I do if it’s all it is. If the only thing that ship is is sex, it’s a big no from me.
Xena and Gabrielle didn’t have any representation in a sexual context but they did have everything else that a real life WLW romantic/sexual relationship would have.
So you’ve got to take your kicks for the ticks - as I like to say. But in my view, that “kick” was barely a nudge. It did not phase me whatsoever that they had no sex on-screen. What bothers me is that they cannot be considered “canon” without showing sex on-screen because showing kisses was enough for me to see and believe of them as a canon WLW ship. But in this day and age, that would be very frustrating for people because for some reason… that is what is required to “canonize” a romantic/sexual ship - same-sex or not. And I just… I don’t know. I preferred the censorship when the intention of the showrunners was sincere and they actually cared about representing true love between two people that didn’t involve constant sex and showed you the emotional connection and how those two people relate to each other instead ‘cause for me, it is far more worthy of my time and attention.
Xena and Gabrielle were just one of a kind in such a way that they came about in a time and place where WLW representation couldn’t be so explicit in TV but, because of that, the writers built on their relationship in so many other ways that still showed the romance and at the same time made it far more than romance. And it was the most beautiful and profound ship ever.
Were a reboot to ever happen,… I wouldn’t want it to because I know they will never be able to do this again.
And if they can’t - why would I even care to watch it?
I’ve been a big fan of this show for a long fucking time. It’s not just Xena and Gabrielle’s relationship that I love about it but it is what keeps me coming back to it because even though I will come across ships that are worth my time and attention, I just know I won’t be gifted a relationship like Xena and Gabrielle’s again.

Six?...it Only Felt Like Four
Pavitr Prabhakar x reader ❤️...🔸🔷🪻 I hope and pray I got him right @vhstown @daydreaming-en-pointe @1610milesperhour
Tumblr media
The incessant ringing of the doorbell shakes you out of your daze.
Your homework could wait. It was only the start of the school year; one rushed assignment could be excused. Plus, now that you focused, the sound of the doorbell was a little rhythmic, which could only mean...
You were glad the only other person in the house right now was napping, no one could make fun of you for the embarrassing mad dash you made to the front door.
You yelled out that you were coming and stopped in the hallway mirror to check your appearance.
good enough.
With that, you open the door to see your boyfriend who has a smile on his face to match yours.
"Happy Valentine's Day!" He exclaims. Your brows immediately furrow, and your eyes follow his as they flicker to his hands.
He's holding a pretty blue and gold box with a ribbon so perfectly tied you know he couldn't have done it himself. It's really nice but...
"It's nowhere near Valentine's Day, that was like six months ago."
His smile doesn't falter.
"Only six months? that's close enough, nothing has really changed."
"It's summer," you deadpan.
"It feels like nothing has changed."
He says it in an airy way like it's just so obvious.
Like he hadn't been complaining about the historically low temperature when you first met this winter.
You shake your head with a small smile.
"We've been together for four months; six months is a long time."
He smiles to smirk, and you prepare yourself for what's coming next.
Here we go.
"My love, I wish us much more than six months."
You scoff incredulously. But He grins with a proud look on his face.
He's still as optimistic as the day you met him.
"Pavi."
"But six months is half a year. Half a year plus half a year is a full year, and a full year from Valentine's Day is Valentines Day.-
"Unless it's a leap year" you interject.
Pav continues as if you hadn't spoken at all, "So, it is basically Valentine's Day Eve. Which means I'm early, and it's after noon so... Happy Valentine's Day!"
He shoves the gift out towards you but instead of taking it, you blink at him dumbly.
"I don't know if I should be more concerned about the mental gymnastics you just did, or the fact that I understood you."
"Don't be concerned at all, you're just assimilating to me."
You grin, "that's concerning."
He rolls his eyes and the head tilting he does causes some of his, insanely perfect, hair to fall in front of his eyes.
Your fingers itch to smooth it back.
"Stop deflecting," he says, a knowing grin forming.
You sigh and your eyes flicker from the gift back to him.
"I didn't get you anything." Your hand reacts on your impulses and you brush back the hair from his eyes. He freezes for a moment and his shoulders rise close to his ears as he smiles warmly.
You return his smile with a far more shy one and the you two stand there, grinning like idiots, until his eyes make their way back down to the gift in his hands and he clears his throat.
"I don't believe receiving a gift is part of gift giving."
"When did you become a dictionary?" You scoff playfully.
"Deflectinggg." he responds in a sing-song voice, tilting the gift box in a taunting manner.
You sigh again and take it from him, "Are you sure?"
"Ayyōṭā, open it."
You run your fingers over the raised decorations on the box. It's a pattern of swirls that almost look like the Mehndi you'd seen Pav drawing on himself. It wasn't as unique though, it was definitely made with a pattern, but the gold brush seemed done by hand.
You squinted and tilted the box around a little.
"Did you do this?"
"The box? no. I did tie the beautiful and symmetric bow."
"Uh huh." You give him your most skeptical look.
He cracks with a roll of his eyes.
"Auntie was very willing to assist me."
"She probably wouldn't have been if she knew you would take all the credit."
"And certainly not if she knew you wouldn't open it."
You glare at him and his stupid charming smile for a minute, before giving in and carefully unwrapping the bow. Opening the lid revealed a hand painted yo-yo.
When you first met he had attempted to impress you by showing the tricks he could do on a yo-yo. It was really corny, but it still drew you in so you didn't have any room to talk.
You gasp and carefully take it out.
"Pav, it's so pretty."
He grins boyishly and his shoulders rise once more.
With the hand not holding the box, you run your fingers over the yo-yo; aimlessly tracing the designs.
"I didn't know you could paint. I mean I know you've done Mehndi but I didn't know the steady hand transferred over."
"Mehndi," He responds, mocking your pronunciation.
You roll your eyes and he laughs softly.
"Painting is easier; there's no possibility of Aadhya carrying out her threats when my hand cramps."
A giggle bubbles out of your lips, more out of nervousness than amusement, because his becomes a little too soft as he smiles at you.
His personality is so infectious, he lights up and practically glows when he smiles, and when he turns that radiance on you?
Your heart practically sings in affection.
"I'm happy you like it."
"Of course I do, it's amazing. But it might be a bit too much for someone who's only just learned walk-the-dog."
"It's a very impressive walk-the-dog. I was fooled!"
"That's not as big of a compliment as you think."
He rolls his eyes and mumbles something but you barely hear it, focusing on the yo-yo in your hands instead.
Before you can second guess yourself, you throw your arms around him.
He lets out a small squawk, but his arms immediately come to wrap around you.
It's insanely probably ridiculous to be so happy over something so seemingly inane.
But it's Pav, nothing he does is meaningless. A hand-painted yo-yo because you learned one trick?
It wasn't ridiculous when it came to him.
He's a constant positive, he's stunningly stunningly soft-hearted, and he listens to you ramble about the littlest things. As evidenced by your new gift.
He's your valentine.
Just six months too early.

Making mehndi designs on them
characters: dehya, nilou, kaveh, nahida, cyno, gn!reader
Tumblr media
Dehya
She’s really bad at sitting still, is the restless type and often messes up your designs by accidentally touching herself. So you have to scold her once in a while and keep an eye out
Other than being told to sit still, she actually finds the process quite calming and relaxing
The cold mehndi on her hands makes her shiver in a good way
Plus, she gets to see you make all kinds of faces while doing her mehndi. And… she didn’t realise this before but you looked really pretty. The way the hot sun would cast a golden glow around you and the way your eyelashes would flutter with every blink–
Anyways
Being a pyro vision holder, her body runs warm so you bet her mehndi comes out really dark and gorgeous.
As a thank you, she does your nails in a pretty burgundy to match the red on her hands
Nilou
She’s so excited that you’d be doing her mehndi for her!!!
As a performer, she always has mehndi on her hands but it’s always just a simple big dot on the centre of her palms.
That’s why getting some elaborate designs on her hands makes her feel so happy, plus the fact that you’re doing it makes it even better!
You even purchased a blue tinted mehndi to make accents on her feet and her arms
She’s in LOVE
Her mehndi unfortunately doesn’t darken much, hydro vision holders just dont have that much body heat so the colour is almost orange-ish… except for the tinted blue designs! Which look stunning
Kaveh
Was shocked to hear that you wanted to put mehndi on his hands. Or feet. Wherever he preferred
Sure, he used to play with his mother’s make up and mehndi before but ne never really got it done properly
So this would be a first time for him
He appreciates how you patiently handle him, there may have been times where he got a little cranky sitting still and his legs got numb but you didn’t give up
And he’s glad that you didn’t
Because the end product was absolutely beautiful and he badgers Alhaitham by saying
“y/n made these! They’re so talented… hey, look at me while I’m talking haitham!”
He wants to return you the favour by making mehndi designs on your hands too but he’s never held a mehndi cone before so it’s quite sloppy
Still, you proudly show your hands off. “Look! Kaveh made this!! Pretty isn’t it?”
Nahida
Actually, she’s the one who suggested you do her mehndi. All she wanted was a simple dot on her palms but you said no!
Nahida deserves much more intricate designs. Not that simple patterns are bad but you have never seen her indulge in her pleasures so this is the perfect time
The-dream-mehndi-customer^™
You feel like you’re applying mehndi on a doll
It’s so easy and probably the best person you’ve put mehndi on!!!!
Turns out extra gorgeous because she sat super still and the design was SAFE
You got so excited that you even did her feet. Now Nahida has stunning red hands and feet.
Everyone compliments her
Particularly her aranara friends
Cyno
He’s just bored while doing his duty when you come up to him like surprise surprise!!!
You ask him if you can decorate his hands with mehndi designs
He immediately says no because he’s on duty
Lo and behold, Nahida walks out of her office and she says
“It’ll be fun! Get some break, work is done for the day anyways”
So now he guesses he’s stuck with you on the steps of his home with you hunched over his hands making pretty squiggles with mehndi
You mess up his designs tho because Cyno could NOT shut up not stop making his stupid jokes which made you laugh at the stupidity of them
Voila, one big mistake. You accidentally smudged THE ENTIRE DESIGN OFF HIS HAND AHHHHHH
Now you are upset and crying over your hard work being wiped away
Meanwhile Cyno calms you down and tells you to just do his feet instead

he learns how to make chai just for you
knows exactly how much milk and sugar you like, which brand of patti you prefer
drinks chai with you sometimes during the evening after he's done with work
LOVESSS DESI FOOD
the first time he tried it he let out a groan and commented on how good it was
one time you both ordered nihari with naan
he was mesmerized by the way you ate with your hands
thought you looked graceful
when you asked him what he was doing he turned into a flustered mess while he made up an excuse as to why he totally wasn’t staring at you
he thinks mehndi is beautiful and lets you use his hands to practice designs
one time he fell asleep with his hand against his face and woke up with a flower pattern on his cheek (personal experience here)
cue the widening eyes when you tell him that mehndi lasts for about a few weeks
he’ll have spiderpeople snickering at him while he's being serious
whenever you both are going out somewhere and you wear traditional clothes be prepared because this man is obsessed
his jaw is on the floor as you come out in a kurti, shalwar kameez, saree, lehenga, etc
cannot and will not take his eyes (and hands) off of you
will shower you in compliments
"look at you, amor." "my beautiful girl." "you’re so gorgeous.” "i still can't believe you're mine."
he's fallen in love all over again
he will 100% be protective of you when those aunties talk to you
uses witty remarks to get them to leave you both alone
will comfort you if their comments hurt you
“look at me, querida. what they said isn’t true. they wanted to get under your skin because they’re insecure and judgmental. whatever they said doesn't define anything. believe me, you’re perfect. so perfect for me. i love you no matter what. i always will."
the first time he tried kohl his eyes started watering
he got used to it after a while
makes his eyes look super pretty
flutters his eyelashes because you asked.. loves the squeal he receives in response
you take pictures of him when he wears it because he looks wayy too fine
"baby, i think that's enough-"
"one more picture. c'mon, for me?"
he can never say no to you

Arab/Desi Writing Prompts Part 5
Hear me out-
We've all seen those soulmate tattoo writing prompts where their soulmate's name appears as a tattoo on their wrist/they have a matching symbol tattoo on their wrist.
BUT what if this was Desi?
We already have a huge tradition about hiding your partner's name in your mehndi and they have to find it before the night ends. So what if we combined this tradition with the soulmate trope?
Even better- what if it was enemies to lovers? Scenario inspo:
The once joyful female protagonist stares at her wrist in horror as she realises the name forming in her mehndi pattern was that of her enemy.
She feels horrified and knows she has to hide her hand for the rest of the night, because if he sees it, they're bound for life (this also stems from our actual tradition, which states you're meant to be together if he finds his name).
The night is almost over and she is convinced she can leave the function hall and forget all about the name on her wrist, but suddenly someone catches her wrist, tugging on it and pulling her along with them.
She's ready to scream out and protest, but that's before she realises her assailant is none other than her enemy. Who is staring at his name with wide eyes.
A mere stare from him makes his name darker than the rest of her mehndi, sealing their fate.
(Protagonist name) was now bound to spend the rest of her life with (antagonist). The very man she was sworn to kill.
Extra points:
His name could be written in Hindi/Urdu depending on your characters' ethnicities.
You can also do this with Arab characters, but instead of mehndi you'd have to use henna, which is what they call mehndi.
You don't have to follow the 'plot' I created above. Maybe she finds out the name is of someone who is supposed to be dead. Maybe she thought the name would be her bf's but it's actually his brother's/best friend's/her ex.
Maybe it's HER best friend. Sapphic writing prompt 👀
You could either have the mehndi manifest on their hands at a certain age or have it happen at a certain date.
