Meg's Trigun Stargaze thoughts:
It really makes sense that the anime got a new title. It was something myself and the fandom had predicted given that the words "prequel" and "final phase" have been thrown around since March 2023.
So where does "Stargaze" come from? A couple of sources. Visual motifs in the manga and both animes. It is a space western and very fitting. It may also be a call to "look to the stars." (Insert the Earth ships and Chronica and Domina as teased in s1's end credits) My prediction for Trigun Stargaze is that it's going to pick up where this left off:
I would also like to note that this happens in Volume 11, Chapter 2 of Trigun Maximum.
But fear not! Yes, it happens later in the story, but Orange has already proven to us that the chronology doesn't matter to the current adaptation's storytelling. The key beats are still hit.
My theory about the language of "final phase." It is a direct reference to Trimax Vol 1, Ch 1 - the "Final Phase" is humanity's confrontation with Knives and The Ark in December.
Orange also said that TRISTAR? TRIGAZE? (did we decide?) happens *two & a half years* after JuLai. That would put the timeline in February.
What other event happens in December and February?
Meryl's birthday!
With the way Orange plays with the timeline and weaves everything together, my hunch is that the arrival of the Earth fleet, Knives's ark, and Meryl's birthday will happen simultaneously. It's a way to pull Meryl and Milly in while setting up the story's conflict at the start.
What about Vash and Wolfwood? It's pretty apparent that we'll see the Eriks arc also happen simultaneously. What happens in December will pull Vash from his life with Lina and Sheryl. It's very probable that Wolfwood will come to get him as we've seen in 98 and the manga.
However, the conflict in December could also have Meryl and Milly looking for Vash.
Maybe something happened to Bernardelli Communications in the chaos and their only option was to take jobs as insurance agents?
Zazie's interest in Meryl and how humanity views Vash along with their trepidation over Knives after JuLai could also have a hand in getting back into the mix. They also know about the Earth crew.
Maybe Zazie is the controlling entity in all of this?
One thing is for sure. Orange has been heavy-handed with using the word "final." We know Muto loves Knives. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if Trigun Stargaze focuses on Knives as they did for Vash in Trigun Stampede.
I'm going to leave this for you, the fandom to ponder:

My name is Meg (or Yzma, depending on what part of the internet you have recognized or followed me from) and I'm here to share my thoughts.
Back on tumblr after many years as a place to put my various live reads and watches. I'm active on twitter as bl_yzma but have found that it's not a great place to have longer form conversations about books and shows or to post more than a few sentences on a single topic. So, I've created this new space strictly for that. More degenerate and Weird content will still probably be on twitter.
As an introduction, I'm an adult fandom person (turned 35 this year) and have been active in a variety of fandoms since I was 13 - Lord of the Rings (and for a good while lotrips), historical rpf, Hoyoverse games (mostly Genshin), lots of anime fandoms (Eva, Trigun, Psycho-Pass as big examples), LOST for a good while, football rpf, World of Warcraft... the list has been long and it gets longer. Right now, historical RPF and the Hoyo games are probably my biggest time sink.
My primary fannish interests at the moment for historical rpf are heavily towards the 12th/early 13th century England with a smattering late Roman empire and Mesoamerica. While I don't work currently as a historian, in museums or other adjacent spaces, I have worked as a research assistant and TA while working on my Master's. My research interests at the time started with the mistresses and illegitimate children of Henry II and then (after an affair with a much older man who was working in a very period, shifting dramatically and not in a great way to) pornography and the female body in the French Revolution. I've studied both in the United States and in Europe, taught high school history for a while, but now I work for a nonprofit dealing with evictions and homelessness.
All that to say, most of this blog will likely just be my reactions and thoughts on various history/historical fiction books, films, articles and fanfiction that I read - maybe some fantasy and science fiction stuff as well if I'm feeling up to it. I used to do these live watch megathreads for Lost on LiveJournal when it was airing and I loved being able to look back at them. This is a very long introduction that I'm not sure many people will care to read, but I wanted to make clear-ish what a person might be getting into if they decided to follow my blog. :P
My current list of possible threads include The Devil's Crown (1978), a reread of Warriors of God by James Reston (meh?? we'll see?? I have a bunch of notes and tabs in it but what I've reread doesn't grab me like it did when I was in high school and I've already found a Ton of very bad History in it just from a quick glance), The Brothers Karamazov (if I can find a buddy reader), Matthew Strickland's Henry the Young King, a bunch of articles of religion during the reign of King John (for a class I'm teaching), maybe the audiobook version of Natasha Seigel's Solomon's Crown, C.S. Pacat's Dark Heir and Sherry Parker-Chan's She Who Became the Sun.

meg has seen too much of my tg au. meg needs a breather about that tg au. rok if u like trigun and the tg au i would highly recommend No Name on the Bullet by her, it is the only trigun fic actually and i go crazy over it. the most thoughtful, hilarious, emotionally destructive, and interesting roleswap au. *clenches fist* aiming to annotate it one day.
How are yall reading orv so fast I’ve been on it for a year 😭
Hey, I am fucking blameless here. I've been insanely busy the past week and I've only been able to read 20% in a week. @charterandbarter is not moving, having heavy days at work during the day and discovering smooth jazz at night, and has the added buff of being fucking insane. Some people find something they like and then don't stop until they finish tearing it apart with their teeth.
It is a very light, addicting read though. I saw somebody post about how they read it in 18 hours straight which I am incredibly deeply terrified of.
#it's fucking nuts#insanity#absolute banger shit#rok ik ur a cyberpunk stan you cant hide from trigun itll find u

Trigun characters as dogs, with explanations
Vash - Golden Retriever no explanation needed
Meryl - Blue Heeler Meryl would 100% be a herding dog. She's tenacious, bossy, and bull-headed. Much like the cattle dog, she's notorious for disregarding her own safety and charging right into the fray. Like a heeler to cattle, she "drives" the story.
Milly - Golden Retriever Just like Vash, no explanation is needed. Milly is literally the female/human version of Vash. (I'm using the same Google stock photo of the same dog to represent that Vash and Milly also share a brain cell when together.)
Wolfwood - Black German Shepherd Like Meryl, he would also be a herding dog. Golden retriever Vash has a type (eyeballs Meryl and Wolfwood). He is very selective about who he actually likes, but is devoted and protective over his favorite people.
Knives - is not a dog, he's a cat

a Meg Trigun Stargaze thought 💭:
I think I have a good speculation on who is going to return Vash's gun in Trigun Stargaze... so strap in for this thread! 🧵
Notice how I used the word "return." I do believe Vash already has his silver long colt in Peace Bringer for Orange's reimagining of Trigun. See my post below about this thought:
I'm gonna place my bets and predict that Wolfwood goes through the wreckage of JuLai and finds Peace Bringer.
I think after some time, he knows Knives survived (his EoM affiliation being his informant), and we're going to have this moment... but with Vash's .22 in his hands.
I also think Wolfwood found Knives first in the JuLai incident, and his a moment like the aforementioned panel.
He thinks this is his chance to end Knives, but he has Peace Bringer in his hands and he becomes afraid.
"If Vash couldn't stop Knives with this gun, how can I?"
And so, I think Wolfwood knows he's not strong enough to end Knives even in his weakened state.
He realizes he has to put his belief in Vash... and that terrifies him. Wolfwood knows Vash is resistant to kill. He has to put his faith in someone that lacks the conviction.
We saw Vash challenge Wolfwood on this in Stampede. It's a core moment in Trimax.
Wolfwood has to put his faith in someone who refuses to kill, even if it's in the name of protection--which is Wolfwood's entire motivation for his existence.
And Vash learns this in one of the hardest ways imaginable... through loss and grief.
Vash has to witness firsthand Wolfwood's conviction to protect. He has to watch Wolfwood make the ultimate sacrifice to uphold that ideal.
And while Vash and Wolfwood had been narrative foils through much of the story... in this regard, they become mirrors.
This strengthens Vash's resolve and conviction to protect a loved one's sacrifice. To finally pull the trigger of a .45 silver long colt named "Peace Bringer."
Knowing all of this from Trimax and Orange's intention and Nightow's ask to have Vash's gun be a .22 in Trigun Stampede... I believe it's a way to sharply bring into focus these climactic moments in Trigun Maximum.
I do believe Wolfwood will return Peace Bringer to Vash in Trigun Stargaze and that Wolfwood will have requested it to be modded to a lethal .45 so that Vash can carry Wolfwood's conviction: Protection.
And it's going to hurt.
